Felicitations and Blessings,\neveryone!\u00a0 <\/span>We are all aware of the clich\u00e9\nthat comes with Friday: TGIF.\u00a0 <\/span>Nope!\u00a0 <\/span>Not for me, and not for our family!\u00a0 <\/span>Our labors run seven days a week.\u00a0 <\/span>Now, don\u2019t get me wrong. \u00a0<\/span>Sunday is a day of rest, and that\u2019s because\nthe total change of routine and activity is a break \u2013 and a rest \u2013 from the\nbusiness activities that go on Monday through Saturday.\u00a0 <\/span>But it is still a very busy day of ministry,\nof sharing, of teaching, etc., and the refreshing that comes in the presence of\nthe Lord brings a rest that no amount of sleep can replace.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Last week we wrapped up \u2013 OK, we\njust decided to close out \u2013 our discussion on the Table set before us in the\npresence of our enemies.\u00a0 <\/span>We could have\ntaken that discussion a lot farther, but I felt like it was time to move on to\nwhat we could easily consider one of the most significant highlights of our\nPsalm 23 adventure \u2013 and that\u2019s the anointing that comes following our\nexperience with the Table.<\/a><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis among the most significant of moments in the life of those who walk\nfaithfully with the Lord, who walk in obedience, and who refuse to compromise\nor alter in any way the commands of the Lord.\u00a0\n<\/span>It is absolutely life-changing!\u00a0\n<\/span>We will spend more time on this topic than we have with some of the\nprevious adventures that take place as we follow the Lord in the Paths of\nRighteousness.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\nalready covered this very briefly as we began this series on the Psalm 23\nAdventure, but here\u2019s what David writes:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 23:5b<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Thou anointest my\nhead with oil<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\ntake a look at the significance of what this meant to David \u2014 and what it means\nto us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 89:20-37<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0\n<\/span><\/span>I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed\nhim:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

With whom my hand\nshall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The enemy shall not\nexact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And I will beat down\nhis foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But my faithfulness\nand my mercy shall be<\/i> with him: and in my name shall his horn be\nexalted.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I will set his hand\nalso in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He shall cry unto me,\nThou art<\/i> my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.Also<\/span>\nI will make him my<\/i> firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

My mercy will I keep\nfor him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

His seed also will I\nmake to endure<\/i> for ever<\/span>, and his throne as the\ndays of heaven.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If his children\nforsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If they break my\nstatutes, and keep not my commandments;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then will I visit\ntheir transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Nevertheless my\nlovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to\nfail.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

My covenant will I\nnot break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once have I sworn by\nmy holiness that I will not lie unto David.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

His seed shall endure\nfor ever<\/span>, and his throne as the sun before me.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It shall be\nestablished for ever as the moon, and as<\/i> a faithful witness in heaven.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You just can\u2019t get a better picture of this\nevent than what God promised and covenanted to and with David.\u00a0 <\/span>Remember, David was anointed to become King\nof Israel when he was still only 17 years of age.\u00a0 <\/span>There was going to be some walking out of\nthis covenant in his life, and he was going to experience first-hand just how\nstupendous the anointing of the Lord was going to be in his life in the weeks,\nmonths and years to come.\u00a0 <\/span>David was going\nto come to understand \u201canointing\u201d like no one else before him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s first understand just what\n\u201canointing\u201d is all about.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Both the Hebrew and Greek languages denote\nphysical contact when anointing take place.\u00a0\n<\/span>The most common Hebrew word is, <\/span>mashach<\/span><\/i><\/b>, and it means: <\/span>to rub, to\nsmear, to spread like a liquid<\/span><\/u>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The corresponding Greek word is, <\/span>chrio<\/span><\/i><\/b>, (from where we\nget the words, <\/span>chrisma<\/span><\/i><\/b>, and <\/span>charisma<\/span><\/i><\/b>) and Thayer\ndefines this word like this: <\/span>through the idea of physical\ncontact, to smear or to rub with oil, to consecrate and set apart<\/span><\/u>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The concept of physical contact is what is\nstriking, both in Hebrew and Greek.\u00a0 <\/span>To\ncome into physical contact is literally a picture of the Lord having physical\ncontact with you and imparting the dynamic power and authority which is\nintrinsic to His nature, character and makeup by His very touch!\u00a0 <\/span>There is something dramatic that occurs when\nthe Lord touches us and imparts Himself.\u00a0\n<\/span>His authority is released to function in and through us.\u00a0 <\/span>A notable and demonstrable power has been\ninfused into our spirits and very beings that empowers us to be an extension of\nthe rulership of the Lord over situations, over diseases, over the power of the\nEnemy and over death itself.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s go another direction for a few\nminutes to look at what happened with Jesus.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider that Jesus knew<\/i><\/b> Who\nHe was, even at an early age.\u00a0 <\/span>At age\ntwelve, He is confounding the wisdom and understanding of the Scribes and\nPharisees in the Temple with His knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures.\u00a0 <\/span>Yet, until He was 30 years of age, we have no\nrecord whatever \u2014 even in contemporary, historical documents \u2014 that Jesus was\nanything but a normal young man with the learned and practiced skills of\ncarpentry.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Did Jesus know throughout all those early\nyears just what His destiny was?\u00a0 <\/span>Of\ncourse He did, but there was a practical walking out in His life of Father\u2019s\nplan and purposes.\u00a0 <\/span>He was \u2014 as Paul\nwrites in Hebrews 5:8 \u2014 learning through experience.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Though He were a Son,\nyet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus was already the Son of God when He\ncame into this world.\u00a0 <\/span>But being released\nto function with the anointing and empowering of Holy Spirit in His life did\nnot come until He was roughly 30 years of age.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s an interesting parallel to see that\nalthough David was anointed to become King over Israel at age 17, he had some\nyears of learning and overcoming ahead of him.\u00a0\n<\/span>David had to learn how to rule and reign in a practical sense before the\nrulership of the nation would be given to him.\u00a0\n<\/span>The practical lessons he would have in those intervening years would pay\noff in abundance when he actually ascended to the throne of Israel.\u00a0 <\/span>David was not handed the sceptre of rulership\nuntil he was 30 years of age \u2014 and even his first years of rulership were only\nover Judah \u2014 and not the entire nation of Israel.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It has been interesting for me to see the\ndifferences in some of those whom the Lord has instructed me to anoint with\noil.\u00a0 <\/span>Some folks laugh at me because the\nclich\u00e9, \u201ca little dab\u2019ll do ya,\u201d has never worked.\u00a0 <\/span>When I\u2019ve been instructed to pour oil over\npeople and anoint them for various kinds of ministry and endeavors, things tend\nto get pretty generous.\u00a0 <\/span>I just don\u2019t see\nSamuel taking a little dab of oil and touching David on the forehead.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take a look at a couple of verses in I Samuel\n16.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Samuel 16:1<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And the LORD\nsaid unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him\nfrom reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee\nto Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nsee it, right?\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>\u201cFill\nthine horn with oil.\u201d <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Does that sound like \u201c a little dab?\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Then there\u2019s this one.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Samuel 16:12b-13<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And\nthe LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is<\/i> he.\u00a0 <\/span>Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and\nanointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon\nDavid from that day forward.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Anyway,\nwhere I was headed with my comments was that it has often taken anywhere from a\nyear to a fair number of years before we\u2019ve seen the purpose of the anointing\nactually manifest itself and be revealed or show itself in the ministry that\nfollows.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Guess\nI got a bit off track for a moment.\u00a0 <\/span>We\nwere going to take a look at what happened with Jesus.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 3:13-17<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0\n<\/span><\/span>Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be\nbaptized of him.\u00a0 <\/span>But John forbad Him,\nsaying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?\u00a0 <\/span>And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it\nto be so<\/i> now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he\nsuffered him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the\nwater: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and He saw the Spirit of\nGod descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him<\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span>And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is\nmy beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

First\nwe see the physical contact as the anointing occurs when the Holy Spirit\ndescends upon Jesus in the form of a dove and rests upon Him.\u00a0 <\/span>Then we hear Father\u2019s decree and declaration\nin the words, <\/span>This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis a dramatic event unfolding here that may not be immediately obvious at first\nglance, and in order to get the perspective of what is taking place, let\u2019s go\nback to something that we see recorded in both Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28.\u00a0 <\/span>We have Isaiah\u2019s and Ezekiel\u2019s prophecies\nagainst Lucifer, his pride, his arrogance, his rebellion and his effort to\nusurp the Throne of God for himself and pronounce himself as God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Without\ngetting into all of the details (and I will come back to this picture a bit\nlater to show you an even greater dimension of what God is doing in our lives\nwhen we reach this place where He anoints us for His destiny in our lives) the\nonce empowered Lucifer, \u201cSon of the Morning,\u201d is removed from his place at the\nThrone and thrown out of Heaven, along with a third of the angels, who had\njoined him in his rebellion.\u00a0 <\/span>From that\nmoment forth, he became known as \u201cthe Serpent,\u201d or \u201cthe Accuser\u201d \u2014 Satan, if\nyou will.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nanger in him over his being removed from his place before the Throne of God now\npropels him to target this new species of being God has created as his\nreplacement \u2014 man.\u00a0 <\/span>With the deception he\nhas managed to pull on Adam and Eve, God makes a promise that will haunt him\nfor his entire existence on earth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Genesis 3:15<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>And\nI will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her\nseed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

From\nthis moment on, Satan will know that there is coming One who will put him under\nHis feet and crush him and his power.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nJesus is born, He comes into this world as \u201cthe seed of a woman\u201d \u2014 born of a\nwoman and thus qualifying to be a member of the human race, and yet having been\nimplanted in Mary\u2019s womb by Holy Spirit, thus being free of the curse and the\nlaw of sin and death imposed on the human race as a result of Adam\u2019s fall.\u00a0 <\/span>Satan absolutely must do everything in his\npower to defeat the One who will permanently eliminate him from access to the\nThrone.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\nhe can successfully manage to get Jesus to respond to any of his requests, he\nwill have stopped the threat to his existence.\u00a0\n<\/span>We won\u2019t record the entire event here from Matthew 4, but the essence of\nit is that Jesus <\/span>\u201cwas in all points tempted like as we are, yet<\/i> without\nsin.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>(Hebrews 4:15)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Here\u2019s\nwhat makes this event critical for all of us, and it is why we\u2019ve had the Table\nof the Lord set before us in the presence of our enemies \u2014 those same enemies\nwho are still in attendance when the anointing takes place.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew\ntells us the following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 4:1-2<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Then was Jesus\nled up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.\u00a0 <\/span>And when he had fasted forty days and forty\nnights, he was afterward an hungered.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do\nyou see it?\u00a0 <\/span>It was the Holy Spirit that\nled Him into the wilderness for the express purpose of being tempted \u2014 and yes,\nthis is not just testing, this is tempting.\u00a0\n<\/span>Jesus had to beat Satan at his own game for our sakes because of what\nwas (and is) to come.\u00a0 <\/span>Because of the\nfasting, his flesh was it its weakest and he would have been the most\nvulnerable to the temptations.\u00a0\n<\/span>Understand that Father knew exactly what would take place, but it was\ncritical to the pattern that Jesus would set on our behalf because of the\ndimension of anointing that would follow.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis a topic with a whole lot of ground to cover, and we\u2019re not even going to\nscratch the surface today, so let\u2019s stop here and continue this picture next\ntime.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
