You\u2019ll pardon me if I take another\nopportunity to talk about some of the growth developments and the spiritual\nchanges we are seeing with the four grandchildren we are now raising.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

A couple Sundays ago, we were seated\naround the breakfast table when we saw an explosion of anger in Alden that has\ncropped up from time to time.\u00a0 <\/span>It was\nclearly a demonic manifestation, and it was time to address it.\u00a0 <\/span>Della and I carefully explained to the\nchildren the significance of being free from evil spirits, and how they insert\nthemselves into the lives of people, camouflaging their activities as part of\nthe person\u2019s character and makeup.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

I shared with Alden the root of the\nanger that was being expressed and where \u2013 in the past -- it had entered into\nhis life.\u00a0 <\/span>The other children have had\ntheir issues as well, so we took the time to pray deliverance over each of\nthem.\u00a0 <\/span>The change that manifested in each\nof them was immediate, but it has been the evidence in their own praying since\nthat has really been a blessing to see.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Listening to Alden pray last night\nbefore he went to bed was really something to hear!\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThank you, Lord, for taking that bad spirit\nof anger out of me, and thank you for taking other bad spirits out of me. \u00a0<\/span>If there are any other bad spirits that are\ntrying to control me, then I command them to leave me and leave my brother and\nsisters, too.\u00a0 <\/span>I love you, God, and I\nwant to be the kind of person you want me to be.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

My quote of his prayer may not be\nexact, word for word, but it\u2019s pretty close.\u00a0\n<\/span>It was an emotional moment for me hearing him pray like that, and to\nrealize that he \u2013 along with the other kids (who also prayed similarly) \u2013 are\ndeveloping spiritual sensitivities that are critical for their future!\u00a0 <\/span>Praise God!!<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\ncontinue our sharing on the anointing.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Last\nweek, we stopped in our discussion with Jesus\u2019 temptation in the wilderness,\nfollowing his 40 days of fasting.\u00a0 <\/span>It was\nthe Holy Spirit that led Him into the wilderness for the express purpose of\nbeing tempted \u2014 and yes, this is not just testing, this is tempting.\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus had to beat Satan at his own game for\nour sakes because of what was (and is) to come.\u00a0\n<\/span>Because of the fasting, his flesh was it its weakest and he would have\nbeen the most vulnerable to the temptations.\u00a0\n<\/span>Understand that Father knew exactly what would take place, but it was\ncritical to the pattern that Jesus would set on our behalf because of the\ndimension of anointing that would follow.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\ntemptation was not for Jesus\u2019 undoing but rather for our overcoming!\u00a0 <\/span>Father had already declared that <\/span>\u201cThis\nis my Beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>There was no doubt who Jesus was when He\nwas led of<\/span> the Spirit into the wilderness.\u00a0 <\/span>Mark expresses it just a bit stronger.\u00a0 <\/span>This wasn\u2019t just a \u201cleading\u201d of the Spirit,\nthis was being \u201cdriven.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus was\ncompelled to begin his years of ministry with fasting and the temptation to His\nflesh that would follow as a matter of natural course.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nremind you that we have been being \u201cled\u201d of the Spirit in the Paths of\nRighteousness.\u00a0 <\/span>This leading couldn\u2019t\nbegin until after we drank of the living waters of Holy Spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>The Holy Spirit would now be with us and\nthere would be a compelling in our spirits to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, no\nmatter where that leading took us.\u00a0 <\/span>All\nof this, after all, is <\/span>\u201cfor His name\u2019s sake.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nfasting that Jesus experienced could somewhat be likened to the \u201cValley of the\nShadow of Death.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>It wasn\u2019t for His\nundoing.\u00a0 <\/span>It was His overcoming, and that\novercoming was essential on His part so that we also have the power to overcome\nas we walk in Him and He in us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\ncan see the curious looks on your faces.\u00a0\n<\/span>You were thinking that the Valley of the Shadow of Death was a onetime\nexperience, and you couldn\u2019t be more mistaken.\u00a0\n<\/span>With the anointing, the power and authority to break the yokes of\nbondage \u2014 the bondages of fear \u2014are constantly present.\u00a0 <\/span>That is critical to our understanding for the\nyears that are ahead.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ll\ncome back to this event later to show you something else, but watch what\nunfolds next.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew\ntells us that angels came and ministered to Jesus following the\ntemptations.\u00a0 <\/span>Luke, however, records the\nfollowing:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Luke 4:14<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>And\nJesus returned in the power of the Spirit <\/span><\/u>into Galilee:\nand there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

How\ndid that happen?\u00a0 <\/span>How did it happen that <\/span>\u201cthere\nwent out a fame of him through all the region?\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The anointing that was upon Him went before\nHim to prepare the people for the stupendous revelations and miracles that\nwould follow.\u00a0 <\/span>Let\u2019s talk about this for\na minute.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Because\nof the varying gifts and ministries of the Spirit, there are different anointings<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s a\nstrange way to put it, perhaps, but consider how Paul expresses it when writing\nto the Ekklesia<\/span> in Ephesus.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ephesians 4:8, 10-13<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Wherefore he saith<\/span>, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity\ncaptive, and gave gifts unto men.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some,\nevangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;\u00a0\n<\/span>For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the\nedifying of the body of Christ: \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Till\nwe all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God,\nunto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness<\/span>\nof Christ:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nperson anointed for apostolic ministry differs from the one anointed for\nprophetic ministry, and yet the two work together.\u00a0 <\/span>One anointed for pastoral ministry is very\ndifferent from one anointed for prophetic ministry.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Here\u2019s\na unique thing, though.\u00a0 <\/span>Sometimes you\nwill see people with multiple anointings<\/span> to function\nin different capacities.\u00a0 <\/span>There are even\ninstances in which Holy Spirit will anoint individuals to function in different\ncapacities at different times.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Allow\nme to digress for a minute.\u00a0 <\/span>It has been\na bee in my bonnet for a long time over the fact that so many folks call these\n\u201coffices,\u201d treating them as titles and positions in God, and yet there is no\nsuch thing in the Word.\u00a0 <\/span>These are anointings<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>They are\ncommissionings<\/span> for the moment in time that they are\nneeded.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\na person remains intimate in their walk with the Lord, and sensitive to the\nheartbeat of the Lord Jesus Christ, the ability to function in these different anointings<\/span> may occur throughout their entire walk with\nGod.\u00a0 <\/span>Obviously there are folks who\nfunction in multiple anointings<\/span> on a continuing\nbasis.\u00a0 <\/span>Then there are those who grow\nfrom one anointing to another as they mature and season with the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme share with you a quick illustration out of my past.\u00a0 <\/span>At age 5, I was leading my playmates and\nfriends to the Lord.\u00a0 <\/span>That continued to\nbe a major part of my early years.\u00a0 <\/span>I was\nfunctioning in the role of an evangelist. \u00a0<\/span>Was there an anointing for it?\u00a0 <\/span>Well, there certainly was an anointing for\neach instance, but I was not anointed for evangelistic ministry.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

At\nage 9, prophetic ministry began to appear.\u00a0\n<\/span>While I certainly was not anointed for prophetic ministry, I do believe\nthe experiences that the Lord began to give me at that age set the stage for\nthings that were to come in later years.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

At\nage 11, I began teaching.\u00a0 <\/span>You know\nwhat?\u00a0 <\/span>I love teaching.\u00a0 <\/span>It is in my blood!\u00a0 <\/span>It is something that has been a part of my\nlife and ministry ever since.\u00a0 <\/span>Is there\nan anointing for teaching?\u00a0 <\/span>Yes, I\nbelieve there is!\u00a0 <\/span>It is a gift that God\nhas given me, and something that has been a hallmark of my life for over 60\nyears.\u00a0 <\/span>But it is not the sum total of\nthe gifts and anointings<\/span> that I have been privileged\nto walk in during the past 70-plus years.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

At\ndifferent times I have fulfilled the role, the ministry, the anointing of a\npastor \u2014 despite the fact that I\u2019ve been told a few times during the years that\n\u201cI don\u2019t know what you are, but you\u2019re no pastor!\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>What folks have seen is something that goes\nbeyond pastoral ministry \u2013 and I have to agree with them, never mind the fact\nthat there has been a pastoral component to how Holy Spirit has directed my\nlife for well over 50 years.\u00a0 <\/span>I see\npeople who are anointed \u2013 and I mean, really anointed<\/i><\/b> \u2013 for pastoral\nministry, and they have giftings<\/span> that I simply do not\nhave.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\u2019s\nOK!\u00a0 <\/span>Holy Spirit has anointed me for\nwhatever task He has at hand for me \u2013 no matter what you call it.\u00a0 <\/span>Let me put it like this.\u00a0 <\/span>Don\u2019t call me a pastor.\u00a0 <\/span>Don\u2019t call me a prophet.\u00a0 <\/span>Don\u2019t call me an evangelist or a teacher or\nan apostle.\u00a0 <\/span>Don\u2019t ascribe some title to\nme.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m simply an heir and a joint-heir\nwith Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>That gives me\ncontinual access to different anointings<\/span> at the times\nwhen they are needed.\u00a0 <\/span>I don\u2019t need the titles.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Besides,\ntake a look at something that Jesus said to the disciples:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 23:1-12<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Then spake<\/span> Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, Saying,\nThe scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses\u2019 seat:\u00a0 <\/span>All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe,\nthat<\/i> observe and do; but do not ye<\/span> after their\nworks: for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be\nborne, and lay them<\/i> on men\u2019s shoulders; but they themselves<\/i> will\nnot move them with one of their fingers.\u00a0\n<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make\nbroad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, And love\nthe uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, And\ngreetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But be not ye<\/span> called Rabbi: for one is\nyour Master, even<\/i> Christ; and all ye are brethren.\u00a0 <\/span>And call no man<\/i> your father upon the\nearth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.\u00a0 <\/span>Neither be ye called masters: for one is your\nMaster, even<\/i> Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>But he that\nis greatest among you shall be your servant.\u00a0\n<\/span>And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall\nhumble himself shall be exalted.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nget the picture, right?\u00a0 <\/span>The body of\nChrist has gotten far too title-conscious.\u00a0\n<\/span>Titles mean absolutely zip in God\u2019s economy.\u00a0 <\/span>The anointing of Holy Spirit speaks for\nitself.\u00a0 <\/span>If a person is truly anointed\nfor some specific place of ministry, that anointing will demonstrate without\nthe individual promoting himself (or herself) with some title \u2013 especially like\n\u201capostle\u201d or \u201cprophet\u201d or \u201cprophetess.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK.\u00a0 <\/span>Enough!\u00a0\n<\/span>Sorry for the digression, but there\u2019s a lot more territory to\ncover.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve barely scratched the\nsurface, and I still want to share with you the prophetic significance of the\nanointing we have awaiting us.\u00a0 <\/span>The scope\nof the anointing is nothing less than stupendous!\u00a0 <\/span>It is a vast dimension in God!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme go back and cover some things we\u2019ve touched on in previous Coffee Breaks and\nset the stage for next week\u2019s sharing.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ezekiel 28:12-19<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0\n<\/span><\/span>Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus<\/span>, and say unto him, Thus saith<\/span>\nthe Lord GOD; Thou sealest<\/span> up the sum, full of\nwisdom, and perfect in beauty.\u00a0 <\/span>Thou hast\nbeen in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was<\/i> thy covering,\nthe sardius<\/span>, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the\nonyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold:\nthe workmanship of thy tabrets<\/span> and of thy pipes was\nprepared in thee in the day that thou wast<\/span> created.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thou art<\/i> the anointed cherub that covereth<\/span>;\nand I have set thee so<\/i>: thou wast<\/span> upon the\nholy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones\nof fire.\u00a0 <\/span>Thou wast<\/i><\/span>\nperfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast<\/span>\ncreated, till iniquity was found in thee.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst\nof thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as\nprofane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub,\nfrom the midst of the stones of fire.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thine<\/span><\/span>\nheart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by\nreason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee\nbefore kings, that they may behold thee.\u00a0\n<\/span>Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine<\/span> iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffic; therefore\nwill I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I\nwill bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold\nthee.\u00a0 <\/span>All they that know thee among the\npeople shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt<\/span> be a\nterror, and never shalt<\/i><\/span> thou be<\/i> any\nmore.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis a rather unique phrase that occurs twice in Ezekiel\u2019s prophecy.\u00a0 <\/span>What the Lord is saying is this, <\/span>\u201dThou\nart<\/i> the anointed cherub that covereth<\/span>; and I\nhave set thee so<\/i>:\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Then He says, <\/span>\u201cI\nwill destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The\nfirst thing we see is that Lucifer was <\/span>\u201cthe anointed cherub\nthat covereth<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0\n<\/span>The Lord says that <\/span>\u201cI have set thee so.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The Hebrew phraseology here is what we need\nto understand, and that understanding has to come in the context of what we are\nseeing and hearing.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 Sorry to leave you hanging, but I need to stop here.\u00a0 <\/span>We will flesh out this picture next week so\nthat you understand a dimension of anointing in God that is coming for God\u2019s\npeople.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
