 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

We covered Revelation 4:1-13 as we\nwrapped up last week\u2019s Coffee Break and we need to consider the significance of\nwhat John saw and experienced.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\u2019s\nthe first thing John sees?\u00a0 <\/span>24 elders\nseated about the Throne of God.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve\nshared this before but it\u2019s been awhile so let me revisit this picture.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nRevelation 7, we have our first picture of a group of 144,000 \u2014 twelve thousand\nfrom every tribe \u2014who are worshiping the Lord, gathered around the Throne of\nGod.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation 7:9-12<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>After this I\nbeheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations,\nand kindreds<\/span>, and people, and tongues, stood before\nthe throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their\nhands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth<\/span> upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.\u00a0 <\/span>And all the angels stood round about the\nthrone, and about<\/i> the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the\nthrone on their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, Amen: Blessing, and\nglory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour<\/span>, and\npower, and might, be<\/i> unto our God for ever<\/span> and\never<\/u>. Amen.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nyou put together the picture of the four beasts with this first group of\n144,000, it is clear that this is a prophetic picture of the redeemed of Israel\nministering to the Lord, fulfilling their ultimate destiny as paid for by the\nLord Jesus Christ on the Cross with His death and ultimate resurrection.\u00a0 <\/span>What may not be clear to many is the fact\nthat the four beasts were representative of, and had the faces of, the four\ngroups of the tribes of Israel who surrounded the Tabernacle of Moses in the\nwilderness.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nwon\u2019t take time to expand on that picture other than to say that the placement\nof each group of three tribes surrounding the Tabernacle was a prophecy of that\nwhich was to come.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a visual for\nIsrael for the generations to come of their ultimate destiny to replace Lucifer\nand to minister to the Lord, to surround Him, to provide protection to the\nThrone (remember the Hebrew phraseology used in describing <\/span>\u201cthe\nanointed cherub that covereth<\/span>?\u201d<\/span>).<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But\nthat\u2019s only part of the picture that John sees.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation 14:1-5<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0\n<\/span><\/span>And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion<\/span>, and with him an hundred forty and<\/i> four\nthousand, having his Father\u2019s name written in their foreheads.\u00a0 <\/span>And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice\nof many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of\nharpers harping with their harps:\u00a0 <\/span>And\nthey sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts,\nand the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and<\/i>\nforty and<\/i> four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are\nvirgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth<\/span>. These were redeemed from among men, being<\/i> the\nfirst fruits unto God and to the Lamb. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>And in their mouth\nwas found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nis different about this group of 144,000 is that this group is not that same\n144,000 redeemed from Israel.\u00a0 <\/span>(We will\ntalk about the significance of the number 144,000 momentarily.)\u00a0 <\/span>This is that people redeemed from among men,\nfrom the nations of the earth.\u00a0 <\/span>Remember\nwhat Paul wrote to the Romans about Israel and the \u201cGentiles\u201d (the non-Jewish\nnations of the world)?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Romans 11:25-29<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0\n<\/span><\/span>For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery,\nlest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened\nto Israel, until the fulness<\/span> of the Gentiles be come\nin.\u00a0 <\/span>And so all Israel shall be saved: as\nit is written, There shall come out of Sion<\/span> the\nDeliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>For this is<\/i> my\ncovenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.\u00a0 <\/span>As concerning the gospel, they are<\/i>\nenemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are<\/i> beloved\nfor the fathers\u2019 sakes.\u00a0 <\/span>For the gifts\nand calling of God are<\/i> without repentance.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Are\nyou seeing the picture?\u00a0 <\/span>You have the two\ngroups of 144,000 \u2014 the first from the 12 tribes of Israel \u2014 and the second\nfrom among the children of men.\u00a0 <\/span>There\nare some real significant elements to these two groups.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s\ngoing to seem like I\u2019m running down a rabbit trail, so bear with me for a\nminute.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

First\nof all, the number, 144,000, is a Hebrew metaphor.\u00a0 <\/span>As you know, every Hebrew letter has a\nnumerical value to it.\u00a0 <\/span>Every Hebrew word\nhas a numerical value.\u00a0 <\/span>Those values\ntranslate into the Greek as well.\u00a0 <\/span>In\nfact, the Hebrew and Greek languages are the only two languages with\nmathematical values attached to each letter and each word.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

144,000\nis the number 12 taken to completion in both Hebrew and Greek numerology.\u00a0 <\/span>I don\u2019t want to get off track here, but this\nis extremely significant.\u00a0 <\/span>The number 12,\nis the number of preparation.\u00a0 <\/span>It is the\nnumber of government.\u00a0 <\/span>There are several\nother significant values to it, but let\u2019s deal with the number as it relates\nhere. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

First\nof all, you should know that in atomic physics, the maximum number of atoms\nthat can be connected in cohesive relationship is 12.\u00a0 <\/span>If you add a 13th atom, the 12 come apart.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nJesus chose His disciples, He chose 12 \u2014 not 13 or 14 or any other number.\u00a0 <\/span>Why?\u00a0\n<\/span>Because 12 is the number of individuals or families that can be joined\ntogether in a cohesive relationship.\u00a0\n<\/span>When you add more than that, things begin to come apart,\nrelationship-wise.\u00a0 <\/span>It is a principle\nwoven into the fabric of everything that God created.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nwere 12 sons of Jacob\/Israel who formed the 12 tribes.\u00a0 <\/span>It is a picture of cohesion.\u00a0 <\/span>Huge groups and gatherings lack that, and\nthey lack the intimacy that goes with it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

12\nis the number of Ekklesia<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve already shared this in the past, but\nconsider the word, Ekklesia<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>It was the word created by the seventy\nscholars who, under the direction and mandate of Ptolemy IV, translated the Old\nTestament Hebrew into Greek.\u00a0 <\/span>There was\nno companion word in the Greek language that properly matched the Hebrew,\nYa.ad, or its derivative, Mowadah<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>Generally translated in the OT as, \u201cthe\ntabernacle of the congregation,\u201d this word literally translates to: <\/span>\u201dthe\ncalling together of the betrothed by the Bridegroom.<\/span>\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nrepresented the calling together for training, for preparation, for hearing the\ndirection of the Spirit of the Lord as a preparation to be His People and His\nrepresentation in the earth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hence,\nwe have the Greek Ekklesia<\/span>, a contraction of <\/span>ek<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, and <\/span>kaleo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, meaning, \u201ccalled\nout.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>It isn\u2019t exact, but the\nfundamental concept is there.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nyou take a look at Paul\u2019s ministry, for example, you will see that he always\ntraveled with others, but the size of his entourage never exceeded 12.\u00a0 <\/span>By the same token, when you look at the\nindividual Ekklesias<\/span> that he refers to where he names\nthe people in them, that number never exceeds 12.\u00a0 <\/span>It is a spiritual principle.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

(You\u2019ll\npardon my digression, but you see churches where they dote on numbers.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

They\u2019ve\nmissed the point.\u00a0 <\/span>The really successful\nministries \u2014 and I will point out two that I am familiar with \u2014 like Church on\nthe Way in Van Nuys (established by Jack Hayford<\/span>) and\nJoel Osteen\u2019s Lakewood Church \u2014 where these fellowships have been built around\nsmall home ministries.\u00a0 <\/span>Each home\nministry is an Ekklesia<\/span> unto itself, but they gather\ntogether with all of the other Ekklesias<\/span> to form the\nlarger gathering on Sundays.\u00a0 <\/span>It would be\nrare for any of these individual home fellowships to have more than 12 families\n\u2014 and as a practical matter, most of them have less.)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK.\u00a0 <\/span>So why have I taken you down this path?\u00a0 <\/span>The obvious \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>question\nin the mind of many is likely to be, \u201cWhat in the world does any of this have\nto do with, <\/span>\u2018Thou anointest<\/span> my head with oil\u2019<\/span>\u201d?\u00a0 <\/span>Bear with me, folks!\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019re getting there \u2014 even if I have to take\nyou around a 40-acre field to show you the whole picture.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\nbeen led in the Paths of Righteousness \u2014 and here\u2019s the key to that leading \u2014\nfor His name\u2019s sake!\u00a0 <\/span>That is for the\nsake of His onoma<\/span>, His character and makeup being\nformed in us so that we are restored back into His image and likeness.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Remember\nwhat John wrote in his first general epistle to the body of Christ?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I John 3:2-3<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Beloved,\nnow are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but\nwe know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him<\/u>; for we shall see\nhim as he is.\u00a0 <\/span>And every man that hath\nthis hope in him purifieth<\/span> himself, even as he is\npure.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nchange in us is a product of the Paths of Righteousness and our total obedience\nand responsiveness to Him.\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus\u2019\nanointing came after 30 years of responding to the preparation processes so\nthat he \u2014 as a normal man \u2014 would now become THE Son of God!\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus\u2019 transformation and anointing didn\u2019t\njust come for His sake, He went through all that He experienced for our sake!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nremind you that we were created for Him in the first place.\u00a0 <\/span>We were created for Father\u2019s pleasure.\u00a0 <\/span>We were created to bring a dimension of\npraise and worship to the Throne that Lucifer was never able to bring.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nnot kid ourselves!\u00a0 <\/span>What Lucifer brought\nto the Throne as a part of his anointing and commissioning for praise and\nworship was nothing short of spectacular.\u00a0\n<\/span>But He had no other purpose.\u00a0 <\/span>He\nwasn\u2019t part of the family of God, and was never made to be family in the first\nplace.\u00a0 <\/span>He wasn\u2019t made in the image and\nlikeness of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.\u00a0\n<\/span>He wasn\u2019t created for God\u2019s pleasure.\u00a0\n<\/span>He was created for one reason, and one reason only.\u00a0 <\/span>There was never any love between him and the\nLord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Praise\nand worship take on a wholly different dimension when one adds the components\nof family and intimate love.\u00a0 <\/span>The love we\nbring to the Lord brings Him a delight and pleasure that Lucifer was never able\nto provide.\u00a0 <\/span>It brings a spiritual\ndimension and a sound that was missing to the Throne prior to our creation and\nour replacing of Lucifer.\u00a0 <\/span>Was he\nanointed?\u00a0 <\/span>Sure he was, but his anointing\npales by comparison to that for which we have been created.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nget back to the number 12, and the spiritual panorama that goes with it, and why\nthis is so important for us to see with reference to the anointing.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take\na look at some of what John sees when he is taken in the Spirit into Heaven.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation\n4:1-4:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>After this I\nlooked, and, behold, a door was<\/i> opened in heaven: and the first voice which\nI heard was<\/i> as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up\nhither, and I will show thee<\/span> things which must be\nhereafter. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>And\nimmediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one<\/i>\nsat on the throne.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine\nstone: and there was<\/i> a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like\nunto an emerald.\u00a0 <\/span>And round about the\nthrone were<\/i> four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and\ntwenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads\ncrowns of gold.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\u2019s\nthe first thing that John hears?\u00a0 <\/span>He\nhears a trumpet, a musical sound with an announcement that he was going to see\nthings to come.\u00a0 <\/span>After seeing this\ndazzling Throne, he then sees 24 elders seated around the Throne \u2014 not<\/i><\/b>\nin front of it, and not<\/i><\/b> behind it, but around <\/i><\/b>the\nThrone!\u00a0 <\/span>They surrounded it.\u00a0 <\/span>Once again, I remind you that Lucifer\u2019s\noriginal position and function was to surround the throne.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\nskip down to verses 10 and 11:\u00a0 <\/span>We sing\nverse 11 periodically.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation 4:10-11<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The four and twenty\nelders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth<\/span> for ever<\/span> and ever, and\ncast their crowns before the throne, saying,\u00a0\n<\/span>Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour<\/span>\nand power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and\nwere created.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So\nthe 24 elders are worshipping the Lord.\u00a0\n<\/span>They surround the Throne, and they are covering it with praise and\nworship.\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s precisely what Lucifer\ndid before he lost both his anointing and commission \u2013 and his position in\nHeaven.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\u2019s\nmore to cover here, and we\u2019re not finished, so let\u2019s pause for now and pick\nthis up again next week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
