 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s finish where we left off last\nweek in talking about Jesus\u2019 life as an example of the cup running over, and\nthen explore the covenant that comes with the cup as it relates to what Jesus\nhas done on our behalf and what He has made available to us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\ndon\u2019t need to revisit all the events of Jesus\u2019 life from the moment He was\nanointed, but His cup was full to the brim, and He was ready for the events\nthat would unfold over the next three-and-a-half years.\u00a0 <\/span>So, why do we have a cup running over after\nthe anointing instead of simply having our cup full?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Two\nthings need to be pointed out: the first being that while seated at the table\nwith the disciples, following the Last Supper, He says this:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 14:12-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Verily,\nverily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he\ndo also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my\nFather<\/u>. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>And\nwhatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified\nin the Son. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>If\nye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\u2019s\na dynamic to what Jesus says here that the body of Christ has been really slow\nto comprehend.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve heard all of the\nwishy-washy explanations that folks contrive.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nmost common one is, Well, that just means that we\u2019re going to minister to\nmore people than Jesus did<\/i>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Or\nhow about this one? That means we\u2019re going to do more miracles than Jesus\ndid<\/i>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Bahh,\nHumbug!\u00a0 <\/span>The Greek word translated,\ngreater, is <\/span>meizon<\/span><\/i><\/b>, which comes from, <\/span>megas<\/span><\/i><\/b>, and it literally\ndescribes something of enormous magnitude \u2014 something which is virtually of\nanother dimension!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Our\nfriend and brother in the Lord, Felix Johnson, (who is slated to become\nNigeria\u2019s next President) pastors a fellowship in Nigeria he considers to be\namong the smaller fellowships there \u2014 and he has 50,000 people that he\nministers to, not counting the fellowship here in the U.S.\u00a0 <\/span>He has a vision of what God has called and\nanointed him for, and by any standard of measurement, it qualifies for <\/span>meizon,<\/span><\/i><\/b> or <\/span>megas<\/span><\/i><\/b>.\u00a0 <\/span>It is a radical, earth-shaking vision.\u00a0 <\/span>And God has promised to fulfill that vision.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

At\nthe Last Supper, Jesus did something that was unparalleled in the past.\u00a0 <\/span>He gave the disciples His cup and said,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Corinthians 25:11b<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>This cup is the new\ncovenant in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it<\/i>, in remembrance\nof me.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nmay not seem like it has much to do with a cup running over experience \u2014 and\nwe\u2019ll take a closer look at this next week \u2014 but I promise you that it was\nabsolutely enormous.\u00a0 <\/span>The context in\nwhich Jesus is offering His cup is one in which a new covenant is being birthed\nand established.\u00a0 <\/span>The old is passing\naway.\u00a0 <\/span>The Law of Sin and Death is being\neradicated and abolished.\u00a0 <\/span>The Law of the\nSpirit of Life in Christ Jesus is being established.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nis offering the disciples a cup for which there is no bottom!\u00a0 <\/span>He has already shared a principle with them\nthat they well know by this time \u2014 the principle of giving.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Luke 6:38<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Give, and it shall be\ngiven unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running\nover, shall men give into your bosom.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Obviously,\nthat was shared on a different occasion, but Jesus was giving them a principle\nthat would apply with the cup.\u00a0 <\/span>His cup\nIS a cup running over!\u00a0 <\/span>It is\nbottomless!\u00a0 <\/span>It is limitless!\u00a0 <\/span>It is a cup of life, of opportunity, of\nmiracles, of provision, of healing and deliverance.\u00a0 <\/span>It is a cup of destiny that we share with all\nthose who will partake.\u00a0 <\/span>It is a cup that\noffers a relationship with God that this world cannot comprehend.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\nlet\u2019s take things another direction as we talk about the concept of the\ncovenant that goes with this picture.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nwant to try to give you a real grasp of the concept of the cup that runs over,\nand the promise \u2014 the covenant that we have \u2014 for this to happen.\u00a0 <\/span>We brought up the Table of the Lord last week\nin our discussion, and we\u2019re going to refer to it again today.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 6:53-58<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>Then Jesus said unto them,\nVerily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and\ndrink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my\nblood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh\nis meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me,\nand I in him. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>As the living\nFather hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he\nshall live by me. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>This is\nthat bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and\nare dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live forever.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nJesus did by instructing us to eat and drink of Him was to reveal a process\nthat the world simply cannot get a hold of.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/span>This is a spiritual picture and it is a spiritual reality.\u00a0 <\/span>It defies human reasoning, and as a result\nmany believers fail to grasp the significance of what we have available with\nChrist in us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Many\nof you may remember Jesse Duplantis\u2019 experience when he went to Heaven and saw\nJesus merging into the father and then coming back out.\u00a0 <\/span>In the realm of the Spirit, none of the laws\nof physics apply.\u00a0 <\/span>There is no time in\nthe Spirit, and there is no space.\u00a0 <\/span>If\nyou\u2019ll pardon the Sci-fi illustration, this is \u201cinterdimensional living.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\ntells us that if we eat and drink of Him, we are in Him and He is in us.\u00a0 <\/span>The apostle Paul explained it like this:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

II Corinthians 5:17-19<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>So then, if any person\nis grafted into and immersed in the Anointed One (and His anointing), he is a\nnew fabrication -- a newly formed being; the previous life [the lifestyle and\nthe old characteristics thereof] has perished; you can see and perceive for\nyourself that every part of one's being is an unprecedented substance -- a new\nspecies.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And all that has happened and taken place has its origins in God,\nWho did this purposefully to reconcile and restore our relationship with Him\nthrough Jesus Christ, Who has given us that same ministry, namely, that God was\nand is in Christ, restoring the world to that intimate relationship with\nHimself, and not indicting the world for its sins and failures; He has\ncommitted to us that Word (and the responsibility) of reconciliation and\nrestoration.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(RAC Translation\n& Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\npicture that Paul draws is that not only was Jesus in the Father, but that the\nFather came to earth IN JESUS<\/i>!\u00a0\n<\/span>This was a real conundrum for Philip.\u00a0\n<\/span>He couldn\u2019t figure things out.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/span>Jesus was telling the disciples that He was getting ready to leave and\nprepare a place for them in His Father\u2019s house.\u00a0\n<\/span>Philip said to Jesus (and I\u2019m paraphrasing), \u201cLord, we\u2019ll understand\nthings a whole lot better if you\u2019ll show us the Father.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 14:9-11<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>Jesus saith unto him, Have I\nbeen so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that\nhath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then<\/i>, Show us the\nFather? \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Believest thou not\nthat I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you\nI speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Believe me that I am<\/i> in the\nFather, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works\u2019 sake.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nbody of Christ still doesn\u2019t grasp this.\u00a0\n<\/span>We<\/b> don\u2019t really grasp it yet.\u00a0\n<\/span>We have a concept and perhaps an image of it in our minds but lack the\nrevelation.\u00a0 <\/span>If we can receive this\nrevelation and allow it to permeate our beings, it will radically change how we\nthink, how we live and how we function day-to-day.\u00a0 <\/span>This is critical if we are going to\nunderstand the concept of the cup running over.\u00a0\n<\/span>I\u2019ll come back to this momentarily.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis why and how Jesus could follow what He said to Philip with this:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 14:12-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>Verily, verily, I say unto\nyou, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater\nworks<\/i> than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And\nwhatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be\nglorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it<\/i>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Understand?\u00a0 <\/span>The revelation of this is that whenever we\nask anything of the Father in the name of Jesus, we are asking the Father just\nas if Jesus were doing it.\u00a0 <\/span>If He is in\nus, then Jesus is making the request.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis how the onoma<\/i><\/span><\/b> of the Lord\nworks in us, through us, with us, around us.\u00a0\n<\/span>His onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/i>is His character, His makeup, the very\nessence of who He is!\u00a0 <\/span>With His onoma<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/b>comes\nHis authority, His power \u2014 AND \u2014 His relationship with the Father.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Pretty\nsimple isn\u2019t it?\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve so complicated\nthis that we\u2019ve lost sight of who and what Jesus is in us.\u00a0 <\/span>It isn\u2019t just Him!\u00a0 <\/span>It is the Father, as well.\u00a0 <\/span>John describes it like this:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I John 2:24-29 (NASB)<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>As for you, let that abide in\nyou which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning\nabides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.\u00a0 <\/span>This is the promise which He Himself made to\nus: eternal life. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

These things I have written to you concerning those who are\ntrying to deceive you. As for you, the anointing which you received from Him\nabides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His\nanointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just\nas it has taught you, you abide in Him.\u00a0\n<\/span>Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have\nconfidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

If\nyou know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices\nrighteousness is born of Him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis how we receive revelation.\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus had\nsaid that if He left He would send another \u201ccomforter\u201d \u2014 the Paraklete \u2014 the\nHoly Spirit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\nput all that together and what do you have?\u00a0\n<\/span>We live in Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>We live\nbecause of His sacrifice.\u00a0 <\/span>We live because\nwe eat and drink of Him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But\nthere\u2019s more!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Because\nwe eat and drink of Jesus, we also eat and drink of the Father.\u00a0 <\/span>Therefore, the Father is in us.\u00a0 <\/span>Both Jesus AND the Father live in us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Are\nyou seeing the cup that we have been drinking of?\u00a0 <\/span>Are you seeing the cup that we drank of when\nwe sat at the Table He prepared for us in the midst of our enemies? <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\ncup is filling by the day!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But\nstill there\u2019s more!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nhad said He was sending the Holy Spirit.\u00a0\n<\/span>Here\u2019s how He put it:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 14:16-21<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>And I will pray the Father,\nand he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even<\/i>\nthe Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not,\nneither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be\nin you<\/u>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a\nlittle while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye\nshall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am<\/i> in my Father, and\nye in me, and I in you. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>He\nthat hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he\nthat loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will\nmanifest myself to him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nwas saying that despite the fact that He was departing from the earth in\nphysical form, He was still in us, and so was the Father.\u00a0 <\/span>But more than that, He was sending the Holy\nSpirit to be with us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nstill there was more!\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus promised\nthat He \u2014 the Holy Spirit \u2014 would also be in us!\u00a0 <\/span>This is why He said to the disciples,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>And, behold, I send the\npromise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye\nbe endued with power from on high.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\n\u201cpower from on high\u201d was the Holy Spirit \u2014 the force that energized the life\nand Word of Jesus Christ \u2014 and the Father \u2014 in us.\u00a0 <\/span>When John began His Gospel, he wrote,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 1:1-4<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>In the beginning was the\nWord, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the\nbeginning with God. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>All\nthings were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>In him was life; and the life was the\nlight of men.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019re\njust scratching the surface thus far.\u00a0\n<\/span>Let\u2019s leave it here and continue this next week.<\/a><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
