style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The fact that he could show mercy\nto his betrayers in the way that he did, and then show mercy again and again to\nthem in the face of their crimes against him is why, I believe, Jesus made it\nclear that if our brother offend us, we are to forgive seventy times seven --\nand that was in a single day.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>When we\ncan arrive at that point, the mercies of the Lord indeed follow us all the days\nof our life.<\/span><\/b><b style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";color:#C00000'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none;tab-stops:4.5pt'><b let him alone, and\nlet him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#A50021'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#A50021'>It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that\nthe LORD will <span class=SpellE>requite<\/span> me good for his cursing this\nday.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>And as David and his men went by\nthe way, Shimei went along on the hill\u2019s side over against him, and cursed as\nhe went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>And the king, and all the people that <i>were<\/i>\nwith him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\ncolor:black'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Unbelievable\nmercy, isn\u2019t it?<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Got the picture?<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>David is the real king of Israel, but because\nof the circumstances that have taken place, he has had to flee for his life.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Shimei comes out to curse him and throw rocks\nat him.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Abishai, one of David\u2019s\nsoldiers, is deeply offended and wants to immediately kill Shimei.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>David stops him and says, \u201cMaybe God is\nallowing him to do this so that I can be blessed as a result in the future.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Wow!<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s mercy with a degree of understanding\nthat has long been missing from most folks\u2019 comprehension.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>By now, you are seeing why God refers to \u201cthe\nsure mercies of David.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>And\nthe betrayal and offenses against David just keep increasing!<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>II Samuel 16:15-23<\/span><\/u><\/b><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>: <\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#A50021'>And\nAbsalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and\nAhithophel with him.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>And it came to\npass, when Hushai the Archite, David\u2019s friend, was come unto Absalom, that\nHushai said unto Absalom, God save the king, God save the king. <sup><span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>And Absalom said to Hushai, <i>Is<\/i>\nthis thy kindness to thy friend? For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of\nAhithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\ncolor:black'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Now,\nHushai \u2014 who has remained loyal to David \u2014 sends messengers to David to warn\nhim of Absalom\u2019s plan so that he will not be caught off guard.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Ahithophel, seeing that his counsel has been\nset aside, leaves the palace, goes home, sets his affairs in order, and then\nhangs himself.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>II Samuel 18:1-18<\/span><\/u><\/b><span style='font-size:\n13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>: <\/span><span style='font-size:\n13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#A50021'>And David\nnumbered the people that <i>were<\/i> with him, and set captains of thousands\nand captains of hundreds over them. And a certain man saw <i>it<\/i>,\nand told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak. And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all\nthat rise against thee to do <i>thee<\/i> hurt, be as <i>that<\/i> young man <i>is<\/i>.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>And the king was much moved, and went up to\nthe chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son\nAbsalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my\nson, my son!<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>I\u2019m\nshortening the whole story because to get into all of the detail would get us\ninto things that don\u2019t directly bear on the pictures of mercy.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>However, I want you to see one last\nevent.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>David is returning to Jerusalem\nwith all that accompanied him, and the military troops that fought with him to\noverthrow Absalom\u2019s wickedness.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>II Samuel 19:16-23<\/span><\/u><\/b><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>: <\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#A50021'>And\nShimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite, which <i>was<\/i> of Bahurim, hasted and\ncame down with the men of Judah to meet king David.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>And <i>there were<\/i> a thousand men of\nBenjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen\nsons and his twenty servants with him; and they went over Jordan before the\nking.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>And there went over a ferry boat\nto carry over the king\u2019s household, and to do what he thought good. And the king sware unto him.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>David\ncould easily have allowed Abishai to kill Shimei but once again, the mercy that\nhad become so much a part of David\u2019s character and makeup was on display.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>One more time, another of David\u2019s sons \u2014 Adonijah,\nyounger brother to Absalom \u2014decides that he is going to take the throne.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>David is old, and Adonijah decides that his\nfather will do nothing if he assumes the throne.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Bathsheba has had the promise of David, ever\nsince the birth of Solomon, that Solomon would become king in his place and she\ngoes and tells David what is happening.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>I Kings 1:32-40<\/span><\/u><\/b><span style='font-size:\n13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>: <\/span><span style='font-size:\n13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#A50021'>And king David\nsaid, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of\nJehoiada. And they came before the king. And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and\nanointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save\nking Solomon. style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>We\nhave skipped over so much more that could have been shared, but my objective\nhas been to show you why David could write, <\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#A50021'>Surely goodness and\nmercy shall follow me all the days of my life<\/span><span style='font-size:\n13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>It did!<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>And it extended past his\nlife into that of his son, Solomon.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>This\nis what God has been doing in our lives, from the moment we declared that <\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#A50021'>The\nLord is my Shepherd<\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>!<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Our obedience to Him throughout the years,\nour walk with Him in the Paths of Righteousness, our experiences in the Valley\nof the Shadow of Death \u2014 all have seen events unfold in our lives where the\nmercy of the Lord absolutely had to be developed in us so that God\u2019s mercy\nwould become our mercy, and follow us non-stop!<span style='display:none;\nmso-hide:all'>In order to understand the significance of David\u2019s statement that\nmercy would follow all the days of his life, let\u2019s look beyond David\u2019s life for\na minute before we actually consider some of the events that transpired for\nDavid.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\ndisplay:none;mso-hide:all'>Take a look at something that Paul was preaching\nwhen he and Barnabas went to the city of Pisidia.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Times New
