Kosmokrator.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>This week, let's watch just how God uses His\npeople to exercise the final dominion and authority over these wicked spirits.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>In this case, we're going to see the\ndestruction of the spirit of Amalek. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Other\nthan our first reference to Amalek in Genesis 36:12 as descending from Esau,\nthis is the first time we see Amalek\u2019s behavior towards the people of God, and\ntheir intention is to block Israel from receiving the promised and covenanted\nland.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nvery next mention of Amalek comes in Balaam\u2019s prophecy when he looks toward\nthem and says,<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Numbers style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>In\nJudges 3:13, we find Amalek joining forces once again with Moab and Ammon in\norder to subdue Israel and bring them into captivity to Moab.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Now\nwe come to a critical juncture in Amalek\u2019s existence.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>God had instructed Moses that the day would\ncome when Israel occupied the land of covenant \u2013 that when that day came, they\nwere to obliterate the name and remembrance of Amalek out of the land.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Israel\nhas rebelled against having a prophet and priest for its leader and chosen a\nking instead.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Saul has been anointed to\nbecome king in Israel and God has a command for him.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p><span style='text-decoration:none'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><u><span this passage presents quite a picture.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><i><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"Gourmand\",\"serif\";color:navy'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><i><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"Gourmand\",\"serif\";color:navy'>Ma \u2018adan<\/span><\/i><\/b><b><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Gourmand\",\"serif\";color:navy'> <\/span><\/b><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>is a picture of\narrogance.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It is the picture of someone\nso self- absorbed that they feel completely secure and above the challenge or\nthreat of their life and personal security.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span><\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Gourmand\",\"serif\"'>We\u2019ve\nalready noted from <\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Deuteronomy\n25:19 that one of the traits of the spirit of the Amalekites \u2013 and certainly on\ndisplay in Agag \u2013 was a complete lack of fear or reverence of the Lord.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Thus,\nwhen Samuel the prophet and representative of the Lord calls for Agag to be\nbrought before him, Agag literally comes to meet him \u2013 if you can picture this\n\u2013 as though he is getting ready to wine and dine with Samuel, glass of wine in\nhand!<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Even\nthe words out of his mouth to Samuel are revealing: \u201cWe\u2019ll just let bygones be\nbygones,\u201d he says in effect.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWe can put\nall this bitterness of death and warfare behind us and just be pals!\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>It\ntruly is a picture of utter disrespect and rampant arrogance.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>And Samuel wastes no time in putting an end\nto this demonic garbage by taking his sword and cutting Agag in pieces \u201cbefore\nthe Lord.\u201d<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>We cannot overlook the\nspiritual significance of what Samuel was compelled to do.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Amalek was more than just a nation; it was a\nspiritual force in the land and a demonic power that had opposed and exalted\nitself against God.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Agag had totally\ngiven himself over to, and was the personification of the Kosmokrator \u2014 the\nruler of the darkness of that nation.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>I\nChronicles 4:43 tells us that in the days of Hezekiah \u2013 close to 400 years\nlater \u2013 the nation of Amalek (or what remained of it as a national entity) was\nwiped out by the sons of Simeon.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Nevertheless,\na descendant of Agag still remained alive whose son would attempt revenge on\nIsrael some 50-plus years later, and it would be a descendant of the house of\nSaul who would finish what Saul failed to accomplish.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Watch what unfolds.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The nation of Amalek is\nno more.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>But there is a survivor left in\nAgag\u2019s lineage \u2013 the same Agag that Saul was ordered to kill along with the\nAmalekites.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>You\nsee, Saul didn\u2019t actually kill off all the Amalekites.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>In II Samuel 8, and I Chronicles 18 we have\nthe record of David\u2019s mighty men killing off much of what remained of the\nnation.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>And\nin I Chronicles 4:43-43 we are told that the \u201csons of Simeon\u201d killed off the\nremainder of the Amalek nation \u201cin the days of Hezekiah, King of Judah.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nlineage of Agag had not died off, however.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>History tells us that his descendants fled into a country which later became\npart of the Grecian Empire \u2013 Macedonia \u2013 and is now part of modern western\nTurkey and Yugoslavia.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nSeptuagint text of the Old Testament \u2013 and specifically, an introduction to the\nBook of Esther \u2013 tells us that Artaxerxes (Xerxes I), whom our KJV text refers\nto by his Hebrew title, Ahasuerus, was engaged in a prolonged war with the King\nof Macedon.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nMacedonian king had a virulent hatred of Xerxes \u2013 mostly stemming from some\nstunning defeats in war at the hands of Xerxes\u2019 father, Darius.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Xerxes was not the battle-hardened warrior\nhis father was, nor did he have the military savvy.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Nevertheless,\nunder the auspices of a Persian military general, Xerxes has continued his wars\nwith Macedon.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The King of Macedon\ndecided to call upon one of his most trusted advisors, a son of <span\nclass=SpellE>Medatha<\/span> who went by the name, Hammedatha \u2013 Haman, for\nshort.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>(The\nprolonged name is similar to that of the Syrian king Hadad and his son,\nBenHadad \u2013 whose name really is nothing more than a description, \u201cson of\nHadad.\u201d)<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Haman\ntraveled to Susa (Shushan) the capital city of the Persian Empire under the\nguise of a defecting Macedonian, and as such was easily able to worm his way\ninto the good graces of Xerxes, who desperately needed good intelligence on\nfighting his wars with Macedon.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>In a\nperiod of perhaps a year, Haman had succeeded in becoming one of Xerxes\u2019 most\ntrusted advisors and honored as a member of Persian nobility.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The \u201cintelligence\u201d he provided to Xerxes\u2019\ngeneral appeared to be good intelligence, such that some initial battles\nprovided what looked like great victories.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Most\nof us are familiar with the story of Vashti as recorded in most of our English\ntexts of the Book of Esther.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>One piece\nof information missing, however, was that Vashti was the daughter of Xerxes\u2019\ngeneral who was prosecuting the war; and she was a \u201cpolitical choice\u201d to become\nqueen because of her father\u2019s (temporary) standing as a winning general.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Haman\u2019s\nobjective, of course, was to work behind the scenes within the Persian court to\nbring Xerxes down.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Following\nis a record of events which unfolds prior to verse 1 of chapter 1 in the KJV\ntext of the Book of Esther.<span Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Now\nwe are seeing Haman\u2019s work behind the scenes.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>He is angry because Mordecai has discovered the plot to kill the\nking.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Somehow, Haman\u2019s involvement in\nthis intrigue didn\u2019t come forth as the two eunuchs confessed the plot to kill\nXerxes.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>His anger at the discovery makes\nit clear that he was in all probability the chief conspirator.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Haman\u2019s\nassignment from the King of Macedon, after all, was the overthrow of the\nPersian Empire.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>My personal opinion is\nthat Haman\u2019s true loyalties were to himself \u2013 and not to the King of\nMacedon.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I believe his intentions all\nalong were to take control of the throne for himself.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Let\u2019s\ntake a look at some revealing verses beginning in Esther 3:1 which detail\nHaman\u2019s activities and demonstrate some of the primary characteristics of this\nwicked spirit.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve underlined some of\nthe key identifiers.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none'><b style='mso-bidi-font-weight:\nnormal'><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Gourmand\",\"serif\"'>Esther\n3:1-15<\/span><\/u><\/b><span the Amalekite spirit in Haman is absolutely no different\nthan it was in the days of his ancestors.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>It wants to be in charge.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It\nwants to have the pre-eminence.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It wants\nrecognition.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>And it has an absolute\nhatred of God's people.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>This\nstory is going to run a bit long,
