 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

This week we will begin a new series\ndealing with spiritual authority and the hierarchy that exists in the realm of\nthe spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>My objective in sharing the\nfollowing is to show believers a picture of the demonic realm, the levels of\nauthority that the Enemy uses against us, and the ultimate authority that we\nhave in Christ over everything demonic or Satanic.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

If\never we, as a people and as a nation, have seen spiritual opposition openly\nmanifested, it has magnified during the past months with increasing strength.\u00a0 <\/span>Della and I were at a prophetic conference in\nLancaster, California last year when Sadhu Sundar Selvaraj shared how the Lord\ntook him into the prophetic counsels in Heaven and he was allowed to ask who\nGod had chosen to become America\u2019s next President.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nLord made it clear that He had chosen Donald Trump, and that his mission was to\n\u201cclean house\u201d in our political structures in Washington, DC.\u00a0 <\/span>There was a decidedly mixed audience present,\nand a chorus of \u201cboo\u2019s\u201d could be easily heard, along with many quiet\ncheers.\u00a0 <\/span>What manifested during that\nmoment was not simply an example of political differences but a demonstration\nof the spiritual divisions and opposition of the Enemy that has permeated and\ncontaminated this nation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

During\nthe past months, our understanding of spiritual hierarchy has greatly enlarged,\nand we\u2019ve had numerous experiences that have opened up a view of just how\nextensive the operation of the Enemy is and how he has been working to defeat\nGod\u2019s plans and destiny in us, and in believing Christians at large.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Throughout\nthe years I\u2019ve seen many Christians who were afraid to take on the demonic\nrealm because \u201cSatan is almost as powerful as God.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Hogwash!\u00a0\n<\/span>Next to God, next to the Lord Jesus Christ, and next to every\nblood-bought believer in Christ, Satan and his realm is a virtual nothing!\u00a0 <\/span>His power is absolutely time-limited, and he\nis running scared.\u00a0 <\/span>As a result, we are\nseeing unprecedented levels of chaos in this nation and around the world.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis a study that will likely take several weeks, so let\u2019s lay some foundations\nin our understanding of demonic hierarchy by looking at something Paul wrote:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ephesians 6:12<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,\nbut against principalities<\/u> <\/span>(<\/span>arch\u00e9<\/span><\/i><\/b>), <\/span>against\npowers<\/u> <\/span>(<\/span>exousia<\/span><\/i><\/b>), <\/span>against\nthe rulers of the darkness of this world<\/u> <\/span>(<\/span>kosmokrator<\/span><\/i><\/b>), <\/span>against\nspiritual wickedness<\/u> <\/span>(<\/span>pneumatikos\/poneria<\/span><\/i><\/b>) <\/span>in\nhigh places.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis a clear hierarchy spelled out in this verse with four levels of Satan\u2019s\ncommand-level.\u00a0 <\/span>Let\u2019s take a look at each\nof the words that occur in the Greek text.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Arch\u00e9<\/span><\/i><\/b>:\nA head or a chief; first; creator, initiator; it means a causal beginning or\nact; origin; <\/span>Arch\u00e9<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>means: extremity or outermost point, rule,\nauthority, dominion; the verb form (archo\u00f4<\/span><\/i><\/b>)\ndenotes being first, or to rule.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Exousia<\/span><\/i><\/b>: Permission, authority, right,\nliberty, power to do anything; <\/span>Exousia<\/span><\/i><\/b> denotes executive\npower, while <\/span>arch\u00e9<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>represents the delegated authority\nrepresenting that power.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Exousia<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>means: it is\nallowed; one can; it is permitted; denying the presence of some hindrance.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Kosmokrator<\/span><\/i><\/b>: Contraction of <\/span>kosmos<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>(order of world)\nand <\/span>kratos<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>(power or authority); this word is used\nalmost exclusively to describe demonic powers which rule or hold authority over\ncertain parts of the world, i.e., a lord of [certain or specific] darkness.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Pneumatikos\/poneria<\/span><\/i><\/b>: There are two\nforms of the word <\/span>pneumatikos<\/span><\/i><\/b> \u2013 both of which have the root (<\/span>pneuma<\/span><\/i><\/b>: for wind or\nspirit): the first form<\/u> denoting a person under the influence or control\nof sin and its propensities; and the second<\/u> describing a spiritual man\nor woman assisted by the Holy Spirit to perform supernatural acts.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Pneumatikos<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>is differentiated\nfrom <\/span>psuchikos<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>(soulishness, soulish control,\nsoulish behavior).<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nsecond word used in this Greek phrase is <\/span>poneria<\/span><\/i><\/b>, which is derived\nfrom <\/span>poneros<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>(a malicious person), and identifies one\nwho is not only evil, but expresses his malice in such a way as to affect or\ninfluence or control the behavior and\/or activities of others.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nGreek phrase utilizing these two words is usually translated \u201cspiritual\nwickedness\u201d (in [<\/span>epouranios<\/span><\/i><\/b>] high places), but that translation misses the fact\nthat Paul is describing spiritual forces at work in [usually] political or\ngovernmental places, operating through individuals to maliciously alter their\nlives or their thoughts and activities in such a way as to prevent them from\noperating in, from and out of the Kingdom of God.\u00a0 <\/span>How do these spiritual forces work?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\nclassic example would be Paul\u2019s use of the phrase in his letter to Timothy (I\nTimothy 4:1), \u201c<\/span>giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,<\/span>\u201d thus causing the\nindividual to be manipulated by these demonic forces into believing something\ncontrary to the Word of God, and thus rendering them ineffective and impotent\nas believers in Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nuse of the Greek word <\/span>epouranios<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>in Ephesians 6:12\nmakes the translation \u201chigh places\u201d somewhat misleading.\u00a0 <\/span>This word is universally translated\nthroughout the N.T. as \u201cof the heavens\u201d or \u201cheavenly\u201d places.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\nan adjunct to this, we have had teaching during the past months and years\ndealing with the \u201cfirst heaven, the second heaven and the third heaven,\u201d often\ntaking II Corinthians 12:2,4 out of context to paint an understanding of how or\nwhere demonic powers operate.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nam indebted to E.W. Bullinger for his Greek commentary and lexicon as he draws\nstrictly from the Word to clarify the difference between the first, second and\nthird heaven.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nGreek word, <\/span>ouranos<\/span><\/i><\/b>, is a \u201cone-size fits all\u201d to describe the over-arching\nand all-embracing heaven beneath which is the earth and all that is\ntherein.\u00a0 <\/span>(Contrast this to our western\nthought and mindset which creates boundaries for different heavens.)\u00a0 <\/span>The plural nominative form of <\/span>ouranos<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>is <\/span>epouranios<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>(heavenly) and\ndefines that which is \u201cof the heavenly (or spiritual) realm.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Genesis\n1:1 tells us: \u201cIn the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Peter tells us (see II Peter 3:5,6) that <\/span>\u201cThe\nheavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water;\nwhereby the world <\/span>(<\/span>kosmos<\/span><\/i><\/b>), <\/span>that\nthen was, being overflowed with water, perished.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nsucceeded is called (see II Peter 3:7) <\/span>\u201cThe heavens and the\nearth which now are.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>John calls these (see Revelation 21:1) \u201cthe\nfirst heaven and the first earth,\u201d that is to say, the former (see also verse\n4).\u00a0 <\/span>These are \u201ckept in store, reserved\nunto fire.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>In the day of the Lord \u201cthe\nheavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with\nfervent heat, the earth also and all the works therein shall be burned\nup.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Again in verse 12 he says, \u201cThe\nheavens being on fire shall be dissolved.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nshall follow is called (see II Peter 3:13) \u201cNew heavens and a new earth;\u201d and\nin Revelation 21:1, \u201cA new heaven and a new earth.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nIsaiah 65:17, God says, <\/span>\u201cBehold I create new heavens, and a new earth<\/span>.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(See also Isaiah 51:16 and 66:22)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nthus have three heavens.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nfirst heaven<\/span><\/u>\nis seen in II Peter 3:5, 6: \u201cThe heavens were of old and the earth.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Also: \u201cThe world that then was.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nsecond heaven<\/span><\/u>\nis seen in II Peter 3:7: \u201cThe heavens and the earth which now are.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nthird heaven<\/span><\/u>,\nthen, is revealed in Isaiah 65:17: \u201cThe new heavens and the new earth.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\nBullinger notes in his commentary, <\/span>\u201cThe origin, causes and progress\nof these changes make up the whole subject matter of the Word of God.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\ngreat deal has been made of Paul\u2019s comment in II Corinthians 12 about being\n\u201ccaught away into the third heaven,\u201d and this statement has been taken out of\nthe context of all the other scriptures.\u00a0\n<\/span>Our western mindset sets boundaries and tries to proscribe a lower\nheaven which reaches to a certain boundary, where a second heaven takes over;\nand from the limits of that second heaven to a third boundary line where the\nthird heaven exists.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nwe know from those who have visited multiple levels in Heaven (and I will cite\nSadhu Sundar Selvaraj as an example) is that there are at least seven\nlevels.\u00a0 <\/span>I don't claim to have a complete\nunderstanding of that simply because despite my multiple visits to Heaven, I\nwas not really paying that much attention to the different levels.\u00a0 <\/span>I can easily say that I have witnessed at\nleast three, but because of the nature of my visits and the purposes for which\nI was taken there, it just wasn't a focus of attrention<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Returning\nto the description that E.W. Bullinger gives, Paradise was in the First heaven\nand earth (see Genesis 2).\u00a0 <\/span>It \u201cperished\u201d\nwith them at the flood, and therefore is absent in the Second.\u00a0 <\/span>It appears again in the Third, with its Tree\nof Life (see Revelation 2:7, 22:1, 2, 14).\u00a0\n<\/span>To this \u201cThird heaven\u201d and \u201cParadise\u201d Paul was caught away (see II\nCorinthians 12:2, 4), not \u201cup\u201d, in visions and revelations of the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>(See II Corinthians 12:1)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nis, therefore, one \u201ccatching away\u201d with a double revelation of the New heaven\nand the New Earth, the whole earth being then a \u201cParadise.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nthe light of this revelation we must \u2013 in Luke 23:43 \u2013 place the comma after\nthe word \u201ctoday,\u201d which would be required according to the structure of the\nGreek phrasing (compare Luke 22:34 and Matthew 21:28 with Mark 14:30, Luke 4:21\nand 19:9).<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\ntaken this look at the \u201cfirst, second and third heaven\u201d because it bears\ndirectly on Ephesians 6:12.\u00a0 <\/span>The last\nphrase in this verse says that we wrestle with <\/span>\u201cspiritual\nwickedness in heavenly places\u201d <\/span>or more accurately <\/span>\u201cin the heavens.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthis statement, then, \u00a0<\/span>in the light of\nPaul\u2019s comment to the Ephesians.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ephesians 2:1-2<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\u201cAnd you hath he\nquickened<\/i>, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye\nwalked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the\npower of the air<\/u>, the spirit that now worketh in the children of\ndisobedience:\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nwe have Jesus\u2019 statements as He was teaching:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 12:31<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Now\nis the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast\nout<\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n\n

John 14:30<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Hereafter\nI will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath\nnothing in me<\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n\n

John 16:8-11<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>And\nwhen he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of\njudgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I\ngo to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of\nthis world is judged<\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Three\ntimes we see Jesus use this phrase \u201cthe prince of this world.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>When you juxtapose that statement against\nPaul\u2019s description that Satan is \u201cthe prince of the power of the air,\u201d and we\ngo back to the Greek term, <\/span>ouranos<\/span><\/i><\/b>, <\/span>which describes\n\u201cthe over-arching and all-embracing heaven beneath which is the earth and all\nthat is therein,\u201d we have a very clear picture of where and how demonic powers\noperate.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Their\ndomain is \u201cthe second heaven.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Consider\nthe exactness of the phrasing in the Greek text of the three verses in John 12,\n14 and 16.\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus NEVER describes Satan\nas being \u201cthe prince of the world.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/span>Instead He uses the phrase <\/span>\u00ea\u00fc\u00f3\u00ec\u00ef\u00f2\n\u00f4\u00ef\u00fd\u00f4\u00ef\u00f5 <\/span>(kosmos toutou<\/span><\/i><\/b>): the prince of \u201cthis present\narrangement of the world\u201d \u2013 a phrase which is totally time dependent and\nindicates a space of time and order to which Satan has been given delegated\nauthority.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Remember\nhow David put it?\u00a0 <\/span>(See Psalm\n115:16)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>\u201cThe heaven, even<\/i>\nthe heavens, are<\/i> the LORD\u2019S: but the earth hath He given to the children\nof men.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nheavens \u2013 plural \u2013 all three of them (the original, the present, and the\nfuture) \u2013 are the Lord\u2019s.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Satan\u2019s\npurpose from day One has been to steal those heavens from the Lord and use them\nto torment the people of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nmay seem rather academic, but you\u2019ll notice that Satan is NEVER referred to as\n\u201cthe King of this present world.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus\nalways refers to him in the lower sense as an <\/span>archon<\/span><\/i><\/b>: <\/span>prince.\u00a0 <\/span>The more accurate translation of that Greek\nword would be \u201cmagistrate.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>A magistrate\nhas permission to exercise power and authority within certain proscribed\nboundaries.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis where we will leave our discussion for today.\u00a0 <\/span>If these first couple of Coffee Breaks\ndealing with this subject seem to be "teachy" or dull and technical,\nrather than a practical discussion, please bear with me while I lay some\ngroundwork.\u00a0 <\/span>We'll get to the practical\nside of this as soon as I can finish with laying some foundations in your\nunderstanding.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
