\n\tJanuary 12, 2018<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\t

 <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tBack in the early 1950\u2019s, my parents were traveling across the nation and \n\tsharing in many churches the vision for building a church in Barrow, Alaska.  \n\tMy brother and I needed to continue in our schooling so we were placed with \n\tfriends in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  We became active in an Assembly of \n\tGod church and I had the chance to exercise my fingers on the guitar \n\tparticipating in the Sunday and mid-week services.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tFrequently, the pastor would call for testimonies from folks in the \n\tcongregation.  Many of the people in this church were quite elderly \n\t(from my young perspective at the time), and there was scarcely a week that \n\twent by when someone would stand up and say something like, \u201cWell, bless \n\tGod, I\u2019ve been in the way for 40 years.\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tI cringed when I heard those words because everything inside me wanted to \n\tcry out, \u201cWell, then, get out of the way and let God move!\u201d  What I \n\twitnessed was a spiritual lethargy and stupor that had set in.  There \n\twas no life evident!  There was no evidence of spiritual vitality, \n\tauthority and power resident and operational.  Even at my then-age of \n\t12 years, I knew that what God had went far beyond what I was seeing.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tTake a look at the pattern set before us in Jesus.  At age twelve He \n\tastounded the priests and teachers of the Law of Moses with His knowledge of \n\tScripture.  Did He get to go forth as \u201cthe Son of God\u201d just because He \n\tknew the Scriptures, or because He knew the Law?  Nope.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tNot until Jesus approached his 30th birthday did Father God quicken His \n\tspirit to know that the time had come.  What happened during those \n\tintervening 18 years?  Scripture doesn\u2019t tell us, but there are \n\thistorical documents \u2014 some of which are in the Archko Volume \u2014 which give \n\tus a hint.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tDespite knowing in his own spirit Who and What He was, He settled under the \n\tdiscipline of Joseph to learn a trade and live among everyday people as a \n\tcarpenter.  He learned his trade well.  He became a skilled \n\tcarpenter and cabinet maker.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tWe do not have a record of when Joseph died, but we do know that Jesus took \n\tover His earthly father\u2019s business and functioned as a businessman before He \n\tever was released by Father God to do Father\u2019s business in the earth.  \n\tJesus was well-practiced in the business world and understood the discipline \n\tnecessary to conduct business effectively and efficiently.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tThose eighteen years of being tutored, learning a trade, having to deal with \n\tthe public, living a \u201cnormal\u201d life, enabled Jesus to experience all of the \n\temotions, trials, testings, pains, sufferings and temptations that we all \n\texperience.  Consider what Paul writes to the Hebrews:<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tHebrews 4:18<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\n\t<\/span>\n\tFor we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the \n\tfeeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, \n\tyet<\/i> without sin.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tJesus experienced all these things \u2014 not only during the eighteen years \n\tbetween his 12th birthday when He was in the Temple confounding the priests \n\tand teachers of the Law \u2014 He continued His overcoming immediately after His \n\tbaptism in the River Jordan and Father\u2019s commendation that <\/span>\n\t\n\t\u201cThis is my beloved Son in Whom I AM well pleased.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tThe testing and overcoming still had one more phase to go through after Holy \n\tSpirit descended upon Him and in Him, and that was to overcome the three \n\tprimary temptations of His flesh during Satan\u2019s attempts to seduce Him with \n\tthe Fear of Evil, the Fear of Man and the Fear of Death.  Thus the \n\tapostle Paul writes again the following.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tHebrews 5:8-9<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\n\t\n\tThough he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he \n\tsuffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation \n\tunto all them that obey him;<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tWatch how this comes out when we amplify it from the Greek text.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\tAlthough He was a Son of God, He still learned (and had to learn) \n\tand came to experience attentive obedience and compliance  through the \n\tthings that he experienced, was vexed by, sensed and felt \u2014 physically, \n\tmentally, emotionally and spiritually.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\tAnd accomplishing, consummating in character and completing the \n\tcourse set before Him, He caused and set in motion all those events \n\tnecessary to become the author and source of salvation, deliverance, safety, \n\thealth, wholeness, prosperity throughout time and the eternity of eternities \n\tfor all those who would listen attentively, heed and conform to His command \n\tand His authority. <\/span>\n\t\n\t(Hebrews 5:8-9, RAC Translation and Amplification)<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tGo that?  The authority that was resident in Jesus    \n\tdidn\u2019t come automatically.  It came as a result of His      \n\tattentive obedience to Father God, His careful listening to what Father had \n\tto say, His observance of how Father did things, and <\/i><\/b>His \n\tovercoming of the final tests thrown His way by Satan.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tEach time Jesus was questioned as to what He did and why He did it, His \n\tanswer was, \u201cI always do those things I see my Father do.\u201d  He put it \n\tin the present tense.  Jesus only spoke what Father was saying.  \n\tIt angered the religious folks of the day the same way that it does today \n\twhen we function as one with the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tJohn 10:30<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\n\tI \n\tand my<\/i> Father are one.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tWhat many believers fail to realize is that our ability to function as Jesus \n\tdid (and does) is because we, too, are One with Him and in Him.  And we \n\tdon\u2019t arrive at that place of one-ness by doing things the way we see fit.  \n\tWe don\u2019t get to decide what we will do and what we won\u2019t do.  If Jesus \n\tsays it, we do it!  If He instructs us to speak it \u2014 even if it doesn\u2019t \n\tfit our normal understanding \u2014 we speak it.  It is all part of the \n\tdiscipline that comes with our preparation to operate in His authority.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tAnything I do, and anything I\u2019ve done comes because the Lord says to or \n\tbecause He has quickened my spirit by His Spirit.  The incredible \n\tmiracles I\u2019ve seen and been a part of are not because of some innate ability \n\tthat I have, or because I\u2019m some super-spiritual somebody.  They come, \n\tand have come, because Holy Spirit has so instructed.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tI chuckle sometimes when I think back to my time at KTLM in McAllen, Texas \n\tas Chief Engineer when I was called into the Vice-President\u2019s office.  \n\tHe had been reviewing my resume.  Bill said to me, \u201cRegner, you\u2019ve got \n\tto be more than a hundred years old to have accomplished all the things \n\tyou\u2019ve written here.\u201d  I laughed and said, Bill, you need to look at \n\tthe time frames in which those things occurred and realize that many of the \n\tthings were all taking place at the same time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tIt afforded me an opportunity to share the power, the authority and the \n\tgrace of the Lord Jesus Christ with him in such a way that he would often \n\tcome into my office and close the door, then begin asking questions about \n\tspiritual things he didn\u2019t want the rest of the office staff to hear.  \n\tWhat I was able to say to him was that who I am, what I am, and what I\u2019ve \n\taccomplished throughout the years is because of the grace and the \n\tempowerment of the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tLet\u2019s go back to something we\u2019ve touched on lightly in the past couple of \n\tweeks.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tMatthew 13:53-58<\/span><\/u><\/b>:  <\/span>\n\tAnd it came to pass, that<\/i> when Jesus had finished these \n\tparables, he departed thence. And when he was come into his own country, he \n\ttaught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and \n\tsaid, Whence hath this man<\/i> this wisdom, and these<\/i> mighty \n\tworks?  <\/sup>Is not this the carpenter\u2019s son? is not his mother called \n\tMary? and his brethren, James, and Joses<\/span>, and \n\tSimon, and Judas?  <\/sup>And his sisters, are they not all with us? \n\tWhence then hath this man<\/i> all these things?  <\/sup>And they were \n\toffended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, \n\tsave in his own country, and in his own house.  <\/sup>And he did not \n\tmany mighty works there because of their unbelief<\/u>.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tDespite the presence of the true authority in Jesus, those who had known him \n\tthroughout the years just couldn\u2019t bring themselves to accept that He was \n\t(and is) Who He said.  To them Jesus was nothing more than the son of a \n\tcarpenter \u2014 an ordinary worker like them who plied a trade in much the way \n\tthey did.  Jesus had already taught them in parables filled with the \n\twisdom that only comes from Father.  He had already performed some \n\tmiracles in their midst!  Nevertheless, their religious upbringing so \n\tclouded their minds and spirits that Jesus simply couldn\u2019t be Who He said He \n\twas, and they just wouldn\u2019t accept Him.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tDespite there being needs among them \u2014 some would have been pretty serious \n\tneeds, whether physically, emotionally, mentally or whatever \u2014 He refused to \n\toperate in a climate of unbelief.  It is a signal to all of us that, \n\tjust because needs are present, we don\u2019t jump in and heal the sick, cast out \n\tdemons or cleanse the lepers.  When unbelief is present, it is a sure \n\tsign that we do nothing!  We don\u2019t try to put on a display of authority \n\tjust because we have that authority.  There must be a quickening in us \n\tfrom Holy Spirit to proceed.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tThat quickening can come in the most unexpected moments.  Even though \n\tthe rule of thumb is that we don\u2019t operate in a climate of unbelief, there \n\tare exceptions.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tIn 1976, I was asked to fill in for a few weeks for a Lutheran pastor who \n\tneeded to take a short sabbatical.  We didn\u2019t know each other \n\tpersonally, and had never met, so it was a surprise to me to receive the \n\trequest.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tDuring the few weeks that I filled in, the entire theme of the teaching Holy \n\tSpirit prompted me with was the subject of faith, believing the Word of God, \n\tand casting out unbelief.  In my final week of sharing, we were at the \n\thome of one of the elders or board members of the church for a Friday night \n\t\u201cmid-week\u201d gathering.  Holy Spirit had really fired me up for that \n\tfinal night and after perhaps 30 minutes of sharing, I asked if there were \n\tany needs for miracles in their midst.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tImmediately the elder, whose home we were in, (We will refer to him as \n\t\u201cEdward\u201d for the sake of this sharing) spoke up and pointed to an elderly \n\twoman who was sitting in front of him.  (There were perhaps 30-40 \n\tpeople in this gathering, and they had assembled chairs in the living room \n\tto accommodate the group.)  She was sitting on the front row and had a \n\tcrutch next to her.  When I took a second look, I realized that she had \n\tan extreme height-increasing shoe on her left leg.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tEdward called her by name and said, \u201cShe\u2019s just been released from the \n\thospital today after having four inches of her leg removed.  The \n\tdoctors are trying to stem bone cancer.  She needs healing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tThe lady quickly spoke up and shook her head.  \u201cOh, sir, I don\u2019t have \n\tfaith for something like this.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tIt was a spontaneous moment, and out of my mouth came words I\u2019ve never used \n\tbefore nor since.  \u201cSister, it doesn\u2019t matter!  Jesus has all the \n\tfaith you need and He\u2019s ready to heal you right now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tThere was an instantaneous change in her countenance.  The unbelief \n\tchanged to hope.  I set a chair out in front of the group and asked her \n\tto sit in it and take her shoes off.  With some assistance, she \n\tcomplied, and when she was ready, I pointed to two of the men in the group I \n\tknew to be leaders in this particular fellowship and asked them to come \n\tforward.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

 <\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t\u201cIf I pray for this sister and speak the word of faith over her, it won\u2019t be \n\tnearly as effective as if you do.  You need to see the Lord working on \n\tyour behalf!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tYou can imagine the looks on their faces!  \u201cOh, no, we\u2019ve never done \n\tanything like this before!  We don\u2019t know how.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tI laughed and said, \u201cThat doesn\u2019t matter.  There\u2019s always a first time \n\tfor everyone.  Just pray a simple prayer and ask the Lord to heal her \n\tleg.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tThe unbelief that displayed in their faces turned to fear.  It was \n\tobvious they were afraid it wasn\u2019t going to work and they would be \n\tembarrassed in front of the whole group.  Despite the obvious unbelief \n\tpresent, Holy Spirit obviously intended to perform something absolutely \n\tspectacular in their midst.  The spirit of unbelief that had ruled in \n\tthis fellowship was about to be kicked out!<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t\n\tSorry to leave you with a cliffhanger (No, I\u2019m not! [Grin]) but we\u2019ll finish \n\tthis story next week.<\/span><\/p>\n\t

\n\t <\/span><\/p>\n\t
