Spiritual Hierarchy & Authority, Part 25<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019re coming close to the completion of this series.\u00a0 <\/span>We should be able to wrap this up in the next\ntwo or three weeks, after which I want to spend some time sharing with you a\nrevelation of the Spirit of Poverty.\u00a0\n<\/span>This spirit is so pervasive in the body of Christ, and \u2013 for the most\npart \u2013 so unrecognized.\u00a0 <\/span>Today, however,\nlet\u2019s finish our discussion on the seven letters, the overcoming processes\ndescribed, and the release of authority that comes to the overcomer.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

The\nseventh letter, written to the Ekklesia in Laodicea, identifies a struggle we\nhave all seen.\u00a0 <\/span>Their battle was with the\nSpirit of the Canaanites.\u00a0 <\/span>They had\novercome the other six spirits, and had come into a place of extraordinary blessing\nand prosperity.\u00a0 <\/span>In the midst of this\ngreat blessing, they fell into a series of traps laid for them by the Spirit of\nthe Canaanites.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\nWhen individuals experience prolonged\nstruggles and battles in the realm of the spirit, there is a weariness which\nlays hold of them.\u00a0 <\/span>It taps them at the\ncore of their very being.\u00a0 <\/span>In that place\nof weariness, there is a tendency -- when one experiences great victories, and\nwhen the blessings of the Lord begin to be outwardly bestowed and manifested --\nto just sit back and relax, to feel like they have "arrived," to feel\nlike it is okay to quit battling for a while.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nis at this point that this particular spirit steps in to deceive God's people\n-- and particularly, the Bride -- into believing that they need to "cash\nin" on some of the revelations they have received and the talents which\nhave been given to them, and to utilize the place of authority they have to\nbenefit their physical well-being -- in other words, to enjoy a few\n"creature comforts."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nis a lie!<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>It happens with the Throne of God before\nyou!\u00a0 <\/span>....Except that you are oblivious\nto that throne.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

People\nbecome tempted to sell, or to merchandise, the word of the Lord, the blessings\nand revelations, the truths received in exchange for money, for recognition,\nfor esteem, for power -- or for whatever their long-subdued flesh screams out\nfor.\u00a0 <\/span>They quit fighting.\u00a0 <\/span>They stop with the revelation they have\nalready received.\u00a0 <\/span>They become content\nwith the wonderful growth they have already experienced.\u00a0 <\/span>And they become lukewarm.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Because\nthis is such a crucial and determining place, the Lord drew an astounding\npicture for them -- one they could not possibly miss.\u00a0 <\/span>The Ekklesia in Laodicea was well aware of\nJesus' parable of the ten virgins.\u00a0 <\/span>They\nwere well aware of the significance of the readied virgins entering the bride\nchamber with the Bridegroom, the door being shut, and the foolish virgins\nreturning to knock on the door wanting to come in.\u00a0 <\/span>They clearly understood that the foolish\nvirgins were excluded from being a part of the Bride.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Within\nthis framework of understanding, then, Jesus says to this Ekklesia,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation 3:20<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>"Behold I\nstand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I\nwill come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus,\nHe was putting them in the bridal chamber, and showing Himself as being the\nrejected Bridegroom, standing outside on their wedding night.\u00a0 <\/span>There was no way they could miss the\nsignificance of this picture.\u00a0 <\/span>They were not<\/b>\nworthy of being in the bride chamber.\u00a0 <\/span>It\nwas a startling way of expressing His love and desire for them.\u00a0 <\/span>His promise, therefore, to those who overcame\nthe Spirit of the Canaanites was,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>Revelation 3:20,21 NASB<\/u><\/b>: <\/span>"He\nwho overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, even as I\nalso overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now\ndo you get it?\u00a0 <\/span>The progression -- from\nthe first letter to the seventh -- begins with the Tree of Life, and ends with\nthe Throne.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Notice\nthat Jesus clearly states, <\/span>"I also overcame, and sat\ndown with My Father on His throne."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Everything\nthat was written in the seven letters to the seven Ekklesias was a picture of\nwhat Jesus overcame.\u00a0 <\/span>I obviously don't\nhave room in a study like this to demonstrate for you each of the successive\nareas in which He overcame, but consider for a moment the temptation by Satan\nimmediately following His forty days of fasting in the wilderness.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Each\narea of temptation was a challenge to that which had been established in Him.\u00a0 <\/span>We have discussed this in prior letters, but\nonce again, listen to what Satan said as he approached Jesus.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"If you are the Son of God, command that these stones\nbecome bread."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK!\u00a0 <\/span>Now hold on!\u00a0\n<\/span>IF<\/b> you are the Son of God?\u00a0\n<\/span>What's with this IF?\u00a0 <\/span>Not six\nweeks before, Jesus had been baptized by John in the Jordan River.\u00a0 <\/span>When He came out of the water, the Spirit of\nGod had descended upon Him in the form of a dove.\u00a0 <\/span>An audible voice of the Father had been heard\nspeaking out of the heavens, saying,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"This is My Beloved Son in whom I am well-pleased."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis precisely the same question that was thrown at Adam and Eve, that is to say,\n"Hath God said?"\u00a0 <\/span>Yes!\u00a0 <\/span>Absolutely!\u00a0\n<\/span>Without question!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So\nhow did Jesus respond?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 4:1-11<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>"It is\nwritten, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word which proceeds\nout of the mouth of God."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

His\nanswer was two-edged.\u00a0 <\/span>First, He dealt\nwith the fact that the demands of the flesh for sustenance are not the criteria\nby which we live.\u00a0 <\/span>Secondly, He answered\nto the question of whether He was the Son of God.\u00a0 <\/span>The Father had spoken audibly out of heaven\nin the presence of many witnesses, who heard Him say<\/span>,\n"This is My Beloved Son in whom I am well pleased."<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Those words proceeded out of His mouth.\u00a0 <\/span>Though Jesus knew that He was the Son, and it\nwas certainly engraved in His spirit, it was not necessary for Him to rely\nstrictly on what He knew within because the same word in His spirit had\nproceeded -- audibly -- out of the mouth of God, The Father.\u00a0 <\/span>His overcoming, therefore, began with the\n"Word of His testimony."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Step\ntwo followed as Satan took Him into the city of Jerusalem and had Him stand on\na pinnacle of the temple.\u00a0 <\/span>Once again, he\nsaid, "IF you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,\n"He will give His angels charge concerning you;" and, "On their\nhands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Whoa!\u00a0 <\/span>Here we go again!\u00a0 <\/span>Never mind the fact that Jesus has just testified\nto the fact that God has said He is The Son, Satan is going to hit Him up by a\ndifferent method.\u00a0 <\/span>The Bible is the Word\nof God -- right?\u00a0 <\/span>So let's quote some\nscriptures in order to support this challenge.\u00a0\n<\/span>In fact, let's quote from Moses, the Lawgiver, in the Psalms (Psalm\n91:11,12).\u00a0 <\/span>This is the word of God isn't\nit?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\na matter of fact -- NO!<\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>The Bible\nconsists of words which God has spoken, and things which He has done, but it is\nnot a substitute for Him!\u00a0 <\/span>John later\ntestified of Jesus,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 1:1<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>"In the\nbeginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus,\ntherefore, was the Word<\/span><\/u>.\u00a0 <\/span>The issue at\nhand was not<\/b> what He had said, but what He was saying<\/u> -- and it wasn't<\/b>\nto jump off the pinnacle of the temple.\u00a0\n<\/span>Quoting scriptures to get people to disobey and\/or disregard that which\nthe Lord is<\/b> saying has always been one of the primary tactics of\nSatan.\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus' response hit directly at\nthe heart of this tactic,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"On the other hand, it is written, You shall not put the\nLord your God to the test."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Get\nit?\u00a0 <\/span>The temptation began with, "IF\nyou are the Son of God...."\u00a0 <\/span>No\namount of scripture quoting was going to get Jesus to put the IF to the test.\u00a0 <\/span>He was and is the Son of God, Period!\u00a0 <\/span>End of Statement!\u00a0 <\/span>Exclamation Mark!\u00a0 <\/span>Then Jesus quoted a scripture in return (from\nDeuteronomy 6:16) to demonstrate that which God was saying,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"You shall not put the Lord your God to the test."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For\nJesus to have acted on the basis of written scriptures in response to Satan's\ntemptation would have been to submit Himself, as Adam and Eve had done, to the\nTree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.\u00a0\n<\/span>His response to Satan restated in the most emphatic of terms that which\nthe Father had said: namely, that He was<\/b> The Son of God; that as the Son\nof God, He <\/b>was God, and therefore Satan was in violation of that which\nwas both spoken and written,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"You shall not put the Lord your God to the test."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nso stating, He also testified to the fact that He, Jesus Christ, was "the\nLord your<\/b> God" as far as Satan was concerned.\u00a0 <\/span>In other words, He was the Lord God over<\/i>\nSatan, and Satan was as much subject to Him as he was to The Father.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nhow Jesus has overcome up to this point.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\nhas overcome the undoubted screams of His natural flesh to be fed.\u00a0 <\/span>The feeding was certainly justified.\u00a0 <\/span>He had completed the full forty days of\nfasting.\u00a0 <\/span>It would have been\n"good" for Him to eat at that point.\u00a0\n<\/span>The temptation of Satan was not to get Him to do anything out of the\nordinary in terms of feeding Himself.\u00a0\n<\/span>The timing was wrong, however.\u00a0 <\/span>So\nwas the methodology.\u00a0 <\/span>The point was not\nwhether Jesus had the ability to turn the rocks into bread.\u00a0 <\/span>The point was in proving His divinity as the\nSon of God in order to feed His flesh.\u00a0\n<\/span>The point was in responding to a suggestion from Satan.\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus was overcoming both His flesh (The Fear\nof Death), and the need to prove His Divine nature (The Fear of Man) so as to\nimpress Satan with His great power.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Overcoming\nthe second temptation reinforced His authority over The Fear of Death and the\nFear of Man.\u00a0 <\/span>It also established the\nbasis for His throne as the preeminent throne, with absolute authority over\nSatan.\u00a0 <\/span>The specific scriptures which\nSatan quoted, however, were addressing The Fear of Evil.\u00a0 <\/span>Satan's suggestion was that He could commit a\nrash act under the premise that Angels were in full charge of the situation,\nand that He had nothing to fear by stepping off the pinnacle of the temple.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis another, even greater, aspect of Jesus' overcoming in this temptation,\nhowever.\u00a0 <\/span>Do you see where the temptation\noccurred?\u00a0 <\/span>On the pinnacle of the\ntemple.\u00a0 <\/span>Satan was prophesying falsely,\nusing "the temple" as a religious symbol.\u00a0 <\/span>The idea being promoted was this:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"This\nis the temple (the church).\u00a0 <\/span>This is the\nhouse of God.\u00a0 <\/span>This is the place of God's\npresence.\u00a0 <\/span>Submit to me here, and you\nwill be safe.\u00a0 <\/span>So long as your act is\nattached in some way to the temple\/church, you can do anything you want.\u00a0 <\/span>There is safety in the structure."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nwas the manipulative lie later promoted under the doctrine of the\nNicolaitans.\u00a0 <\/span>It made system and\nstructure to be God in place of a personal relationship, and justified any and\nall acts associated with the structure.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus'\novercoming of this temptation, therefore, went beyond <\/span>the Fear of Death, The Fear of\nMan, or The Fear of Evil; He also overcame the master spirits of rebellion,\ncontrol, witchcraft, false prophecy, divination -- and all that was represented\nin the Spirit of the Amorites and the Spirit of the Perizzites.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Satan's\ntemptation of Jesus still had one final effort.\u00a0\n<\/span>This time Jesus was taken into a very high mountain and given a view of\nall the kingdoms of the world, and their glory.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthat Jesus had overcome everything of the Enemy's tactics up to this point.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Satan\nnow says, <\/span>"All these things will I give you, if you will fall down\nand worship me."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Talk\nabout blatant!\u00a0 <\/span>At first glance, it seems\nludicrous that Satan would use a frontal approach with such transparent bribery\nin view of his previous failures and rebuffs.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But\nwait!\u00a0 <\/span>Stop for a moment and consider\nonce again the Ekklesia in Laodicea.\u00a0 <\/span>He\ndid exactly <\/b>the same thing with them.\u00a0\n<\/span>Here they are, having overcome all the wiles of the Enemy, having\nreceived the invitation to the wedding, having been made a part of the Bride,\nhaving been given a crown.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Having\nreached this stage, however, they are weary and fatigued from the\nstruggles.\u00a0 <\/span>For them, the blessing of the\nLord has begun to bring some physical benefits -- our society today would call\nit "prosperity."\u00a0 <\/span>In\nstep-by-step fashion, the Serpent comes with his artifice and says,\n"You're tired.\u00a0 <\/span>You don't have to\nwait until some far off future date to enjoy the benefits of your victories.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cYou\ncan cash in on the esteem you have received.\u00a0\n<\/span>Make compromises with the Roman Emperor.\u00a0\n<\/span>He'll cut you some slack -- I guarantee it!\u00a0 <\/span>Then you can parlay your favor with him to\ngain prominent positions in the politics of Laodicea; and then use those\npositions to provide gainful employment for your Christian brothers and\nsisters.\u00a0 <\/span>You can have a \u2018Christian\nCity!\u2019"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nthus did Satan sell the Ekklesia in Laodicea a bill of goods.\u00a0 <\/span>He laid before them "the kingdoms of\nthis world, and their glory."\u00a0 <\/span>This\nis precisely how it all happened.\u00a0 <\/span>They\nbought into it hook, line and sinker.\u00a0\n<\/span>And in the process stopped fighting Satan.\u00a0 <\/span>And stood still spiritually.\u00a0 <\/span>And became rich in this world's goods.\u00a0 <\/span>And lost their place of intimacy with the\nLord.\u00a0 <\/span>And gave up the real Throne for a\nvery artificial and temporary throne and place of power.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
