Antiqua\",\"serif\";color:#984806;\nmso-themecolor:accent6;mso-themeshade:128'>It was my intention to begin a\nseries today on Resurrection From the Dead, and walking and living in\nResurrection Life, but I\u2019m not quite finished yet with that writing.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Thought I\u2019d take a break for the next couple\nof weeks and discuss something that we\u2019ve talked about throughout the years on\na few occasions \u2013 the practical nature of discipleship, and how it differs from\nconventional teaching in the body of Christ today.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>One\nof the things that seems abundantly clear is that there has been an excessive\nfocus within the structured church world on getting people born again and\nmissing entirely the disciplined walk with the Lord Jesus Christ that must\ncommence immediately upon making the initial commitment.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nGreat Commission (as we are so inclined to call it) is not a commission from\nthe Lord to get people &quot;saved.&quot;<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>Contrary to some of the popular translations, Jesus did not simply say,\n&quot;Go ye therefore and teach all nations.....&quot;<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>His command was that we go forth and\n&quot;disciple&quot; all nations.&quot;<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nNASB translates the Greek text accurately, putting it like this<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Californian FB\",\"serif\"'>: <\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\"'>&quot;<span\nstyle='color:red'>All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on\nearth.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span><u>Go therefore and make\ndisciples of all the nations<\/u>, baptizing them in the name of the Father and\nthe Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you;\nand lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.&quot;<\/span><span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Californian FB\",\"serif\"'>(Matthew 28:18-20)<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>There's\na huge difference between simply preaching and teaching, and\n&quot;discipling.&quot;<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The truth of\nthis understanding really began to spread throughout the body of Christ during\nthe Charismatic Renewal during the early 1970's.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I remember when -- at a World Map Conference\n-- Bob Mumford was the scheduled speaker and he stepped aside for Juan Carlos\nOrtiz to share the remarkable successes of the &quot;discipleship&quot;\nministry Juan Carlos was seeing in Argentina.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>As\nhas been and continues to be true, whenever real truth begins to be propagated\nwithin the body of Christ and Christians begin to grow and mature and become a\ngenuine threat to Satan's lies and deception, he seeks to contaminate the\nmessage with extremes and thereby render the truth either unpalatable to most\nChristians or laced with so much error that it becomes totally rejected.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I watched this take place following Juan\nCarlos' sharing.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>What\nworked spectacularly for the Argentinean Revival (as it has been sometimes\nreferred) with the teaching and practical applications of the disciplined walk\nin Christ Jesus mostly failed in North America.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>It wasn't that what Juan Carlos Ortiz shared was wrong, or that his\nmethods and applications were wrong.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The\nproblem was that the message and applications of discipleship <b\nstyle='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'><i style='mso-bidi-font-style:normal'><u>as\nintegrated into Argentinean culture and life<\/u><\/i><\/b> simply did not\ntranslate well into American (or more accurately, &quot;westernized&quot;)\nlifestyles and culture.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Many\nof my pastor friends attempted to apply Juan Carlos' methodologies within their\nAmerican churches with explosive and disastrous results.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It became known within this country as\n&quot;the Discipleship Controversy,&quot; and because of the failures and\ndamaged lives that resulted from the misapplication of the truth, large\nsegments of the body of Christ rejected the whole idea of being discipled.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Just\nbecause South American methodologies mostly failed in North America doesn't\nmean that the message of discipleship and discipling was or is wrong!<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Far from it!<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>Each part of the world -- OK, let's make it more personal -- each and\nevery segment of society has a uniqueness to it that requires a practical\nunderstanding and application which makes it work.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Let's\ntalk for a minute about some of the practical aspects and principles of true\ndiscipleship.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The whole idea of a\n&quot;disciple&quot; is found in the core word: discipline.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>A disciple is one who lives his or her life\nin a disciplined manner obeying the tenets and principles set forth by the\nmentor or the teacher or leader under whom they've submitted.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Living\na disciplined life is a whole lot more than simply refraining from certain\nactivities you might otherwise enjoy, or engaging in a certain careful and\ncontrolled lifestyle.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The\n&quot;disciple&quot; learns to adopt the mindset, the thought processes, the\ncharacter and the nature of his\/her mentor or instructor.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>What\nwas it that happened to Peter when he stood outside warming himself by the fire\nwhile Jesus was being interrogated by those who shortly thereafter crucified\nHim?<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>(See Matthew 26:69-73)<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>First a young girl says to Peter, &quot;You\nwere with Jesus of Galilee.&quot;<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>Shortly thereafter another young woman says to those standing by,\n&quot;This man was also with Jesus of Nazareth.&quot;<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>A\nshort period of time ensues during which conversation takes place between all\nthose gathered together -- conversation which includes Peter.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Pretty soon some of those participating in\nthe conversation stop and say to him, &quot;You certainly are one of them.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Your manner of speaking clearly identifies\nyou.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>You\nget the idea, I'm sure.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Years ago when I\nwas ministering with Dwain McKenzie at Long Beach Christian Center, Dwain and I\nperiodically participated in conferences at Church on the Way in Van Nuys,\nCalifornia.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Anyone who's been around\nJack Hayford for any length of time knows that he has a very distinctive\nspeaking style and expressions you can identify anywhere.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>We\noften chuckled when we heard some of the elders or young men he was mentoring\nin ministry.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>If you didn't see them and\nsimply heard them speak, you could be forgiven for thinking that you were\nlistening to Jack.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>They had his speaking\nstyle down to a &quot;T&quot; along with many of his phrases or expressions.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>That's\nhow it was with Peter.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He'd been\ndiscipled by the Lord Jesus Christ.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>His\nmannerisms were affected.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He carried on\na conversation like Jesus did.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He spoke\nlike Jesus.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He had yet to be filled with\nHoly Spirit, however, and as a consequence lacked the boldness that comes with\nthat infilling.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Because\nJesus was being accused before Caiaphas of blasphemy, Peter's fears kicked in\nand he was afraid of being known in this court setting as an associate or\nfriend of Jesus, or being one of His disciples.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>In order, therefore, to convince the bystanders with whom he'd been\ncarrying on a conversation that he was not part of Jesus' disciples, he did\nsomething that was so uncharacteristic of Jesus as to express himself first with\nan oath, swearing [on his mother's grave?] that he didn't even know Jesus.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Then after being identified for the third\ntime as one who was normally seen with Jesus, he tried to convince his accusers\nwith the use of cursing and vulgar language.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>But\nJesus' mannerisms, His speech and His countenance were known for peace, for\nauthority and (mostly) for exceptional gentleness.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Peter may have temporarily put off those who\nquestioned his association, but Jesus' mentoring, His teaching, His instruction\nand His discipling of Peter had made real change.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>When Peter heard the cock crow, it shook him\nto the core of his being.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He realized\nthat he had done just what Jesus had said he would do: he denied Jesus three\ntimes.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>And Peter couldn't stick\naround.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He went out and wept bitter,\nremorseful tears over his betrayal of Jesus.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>Yes, Jesus was the One who had sent him out to heal the sick, raise the\ndead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons, and preach the Gospel of the\nKingdom.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>And Peter had seen direct,\nmeasurable, tangible results and consequences of functioning in the very onoma,\nthe character and nature of the Lord Jesus Christ.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>That ministry had affected his\nhousehold.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>His wife's mother had been\nraised from her sick bed, made completely whole.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Californian case,\nJesus) discipling.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>That transfer or\nimpartation is then seized upon, laid claim to and possessed by the one receiving\nthe impartation.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book being\n&quot;under authority&quot; actually means, namely, that he willingly has\nsubjected himself to the authority of his superiors.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He lives a life of absolute discipline.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>As a result, he himself has been commissioned\nand placed in authority over 100 soldiers who are &quot;under authority&quot;\nto him as their superior.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\ncenturion recognizes that Jesus operates under the authority of Father with\nFather's commissioning, and that with that place of submission comes the full\nbacking and commitment of Heaven to support whatever command He gives.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He has both seen and heard of the miracles\nthat Jesus does and knows that He could never do those things without first\nhaving been commissioned and authorized by direct command.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>This\nis perhaps the most basic and fundamental aspect of\n&quot;discipling.&quot;<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The one who\ndisciples others must first be under the authority of Father, Son and Holy\nSpirit.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The discipler must have\npersonally seen, heard and -- through personal experience -- lived and walked\nthe discipline of Father through Jesus Christ, operating through the power and\nenabling of Holy Spirit.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>In\nthe past 70+ years of walking with the Lord, it has been my pleasure to lead\nmany to salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I've lost track of the number of people laid\nhands on to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the attendant signs,\nand couldn't begin to tell you how many people I've baptized in water.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>That's all well and good, but the command of\nJesus is a whole lot more than that. <span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0<\/span>The\nissue isn't how many folks I've led to the New Birth: the issue is how many\nI've successfully discipled in such a way that they duplicate the same\npresence, authority and power of Holy Spirit manifested in and through me.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>That number, I'm sorry to say, is a whole lot\nsmaller than the number of those with whom I've prayed for salvation.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Evangelism\nis a whole lot more than preaching and leading souls to the Lord.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Evangelism -- at least Jesus' definition of\nevangelism -- incorporates living a disciplined life under the command of Holy\nSpirit.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>True evangelism involves\nbecoming involved with those whom you lead to Jesus and discipling them so that\nthe same Word of Life, the same Word of Faith, the same Word of Love exhibited\nin your life is duplicated and manifested in them. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Make\nsense?<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Good!<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Let me share a personal experience -- one\nfrom 65 years ago for the sake of illustration.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>As a\nfive-year-old, I lived, breathed, walked and talked Jesus.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>My father was my discipler at the time, and I\nwanted in the worst way to duplicate the pattern I saw in him.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I preached, testified, cajoled and did\neverything I could to persuade my friends and playmates that they needed to\ncommit themselves to Jesus Christ<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>It\nwas the winter of 1947.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>We lived at the\ntime in Nome, Alaska.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It was a\nparticularly brutal winter with temperatures at or near 40 below zero for a\nperiod of several weeks.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The winter had\nbegun with a huge snowfall and subsequent winds had piled the snow in drifts so\nhigh you could literally climb up on the roof of our church building.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Of\ncourse the blowing wind, coupled with the cold temperatures, made the snow rock\nhard; and that made it perfect for a bunch of kids who wanted to make snow\ncaves, igloos, or whatever.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>My brother\nand I, however, had a different plan.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>We\nborrowed one of Dad's hand saws and cut out a room roughly 8 X 8 X 5 in a huge\nsnow bank that swept over our house and church.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>Naturally, we cut out a neat door and window.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>We followed that with cutting blocks of\nhardened snow which made a perfect bench, an altar, a podium to preach from;\nand, presto! Mom gave us some candles to use for light, and we had ourselves a\nlittle church!<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Now, don't laugh.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It was serious business to us.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nfirst order of business was to gather our friends and playmates to &quot;have\nchurch.&quot;<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Howie (my brother) led the\nsinging.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I preached a 15 or 20-minute\nsalvation message and had &quot;an altar call&quot; just like Dad's.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It wasn't a game, and I wasn't\npretending.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>This took place during a\nthree-year period between the ages of four and seven when I had constant\nvisitations from angels.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Mom had taught\nme to read by reading the Bible, and by this time I knew it fairly well -- at\nleast I knew the pertinent parts of it as far as salvation and baptism were\nconcerned.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>You\nsee, I was learning from Dad's example and the pattern he'd set for me.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He was my discipler.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Three of my playmates that day responded to\nthe salvation message and knelt at that snow altar to receive Jesus\nChrist.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Their response was real and from\nthat day forward I continued to teach them from the Word.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I could only teach, of course, those things\nthat were real to me, but my objective was to transmit them into the lives of\nmy three friends.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Well,\nat forty below zero, you don't baptize anyone in water, so you wait until\nspring when water (especially after an abundant winter like that one)\nabounds.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Seems like it was in May or\nearly June when the temperatures were between 40 and 50 degrees (above zero, of\ncourse) and deep mud puddles flourished everywhere.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>(When Dad built the church in Nome he didn't\ninclude a baptismal tank, so we just did the logical thing.)<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>By now I had passed my sixth birthday.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>My friends were ready to be baptized, and we\nfound a suitable mud puddle where they could be immersed.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>We didn't think about changes of clothes or\nanything like that.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I walked into the\nwater and, one by one, they came in after me to be baptized.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I never knew whether they got in trouble with\ntheir folks for coming home soaking wet in their clothes, but we all knew that\nwe had taken the proper steps as far as the Lord was concerned!<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>(OK, no fair laughing!<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Like I said, it was real and we were\nserious!)<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Californian FB\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>In\nthe years that followed, all three of those first converts went on to become\nstrong Christian believers, and one of them went on into pastoral\nministry.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It was my first experience at\ndiscipling, and I followed the pattern that my discipler, Dad, had set for me.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal
