Practical Discipleship, Part 2<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

We ran long last week, and will run\nlong again this week.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m trying to cram\na lot into these two weeks before we move on to a new series.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nI wrapped up the last Coffee Break, Holy Spirit reminded me that I'd missed\nsharing one of the most important aspects of discipling: the imparting of the\nanointing, the transfer of the mantle that God has laid upon the one who is\nmentoring, teaching, sharing and discipling.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let's\nbegin again today with the command Jesus has given<\/span>:\n"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.\u00a0 <\/span>Go therefore and make disciples of all the\nnations<\/u>, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy\nSpirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with\nyou always, even to the end of the age."<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(Matthew 28:18-20 NASB)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis so much wrapped up in Jesus' command that it is almost hard to know where to\nbegin.\u00a0 <\/span>He starts off by saying that all\nauthority -- make sure you get this -- ALL AUTHORITY in Heaven and on earth has\nbeen given to Him.\u00a0 <\/span>I don't mean to be\nredundant but "ALL" literally means that there is no part of the\nauthority or dominion in any realm, earthly, natural, spiritual, emotional,\nmental, of the heavenly realm or dimension, AND the realm of the demonic over\nwhich Jesus lacks the final say.\u00a0 <\/span>What's\nmore, He has not just the authority, but the power to back up that authority.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\nfollows up that preface to His command by saying, "Go ye\ntherefore!"\u00a0 <\/span>In other words, <\/span>"Because\nI have all authority, I'm commissioning and empowering you to go forth on my\nbehalf as my personal representative; and you have the full backing of Heaven\nto do everything I've commanded you."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"Everything\nI've commanded you" takes in a lot of territory, folks!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Remember\nwhen Jesus sent the 70 out, two by two, and told them to<\/span> <\/span>"heal\nthe sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons"?\u00a0 <\/span>Then Jesus said to them, "freely ye have\nreceived, freely give<\/span>."\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(Matthew 10:8)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take a quick look at Mark 16:15-18: (see\nalso Matthew 24:14)<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And He said to\nthem, \u201cGo into all the world and preach, declare and proclaim the gospel, the\ngood news of the Kingdom, to all of creation.\u00a0\n<\/span>He who actively believes [and puts into action My Word] and has been\nbaptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved [and opposed mentally,\nemotionally and spiritually] shall be condemned.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

These signs\nwill accompany those who activ<\/a>ely believe and put into\naction: in My name [in the very character and makeup, the essence of who I AM]\nthey will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will take on\nwily, deceitful men whose purpose is to sway and deter them through clever\narguments [and defeat them], and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not\nhurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover and be\ncompletely restored.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(Mark 16: 15-18,\nRAC Translation and Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

[A quick note before we continue:\nThe phrase which occurs at the beginning of verse 18 in the KJV-- <\/span>"They\nshall take up serpents"<\/span> <\/span>-- is a common Hebrew metaphor, and it\nmeans to take on those people who try to deceive or sway through clever\narguments or manipulation.\u00a0 <\/span>The\nparticular phraseology which occurs here makes very clear that Jesus is giving those\nwho believe<\/i><\/b> the authority, the power, the wisdom AND the anointing to\ncombat and defeat such arguments and\/or manipulation.]<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Both Matthew and Mark use the\nexpanded reference to "the Gospel" by clarifying it this way on four\nseparate occasions: "the Gospel of the Kingdom." \u00a0<\/span>You see, the Gospel is not simply some good\nnews of salvation through Jesus Christ; it is the news that we have access to\nand available citizenship in a Kingdom -- a sphere and a dimension of living --\nwhich is superior to, and has authority over, all the kingdoms of this natural\nworld.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus, when Jesus begins His covenant\npromise to "those who believe," He instructs us to preach, declare\nand proclaim the good news -- the angelic tidings -- of His Kingdom to all of creation!<\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>That's more than just preaching to people,\nfolks!\u00a0 <\/span>That's the exercise of Kingdom\nauthority over all that is this earthly realm.\u00a0\n<\/span>That includes the ground we walk on.\u00a0\n<\/span>That includes the trees, the plants, the vegetation -- the agricultural\nrealm, if you please.\u00a0 <\/span>That includes the\nanimal kingdom, birds, marine life, bugs, etc.\u00a0\n<\/span>That includes the weather.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Get it?\u00a0 <\/span>ALL OF\nCREATION!<\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We are instructed to preach,\nproclaim, declare, prophesy, decree -- to enact by the release of the spoken\nWord -- the Kingdom of God in, upon and throughout all the earth!\u00a0 <\/span>That doesn't mean we get to say anything that\npops into our heads.\u00a0 <\/span>This only works\nwhen we speak that <\/span>rhema <\/span><\/i><\/b>-- that same Word we first heard\nfrom Holy Spirit -- which is coming (present tense -- not past tense) out of\nthe mouth of God!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One cannot receive that rhema unless\none has his or her ears attuned to hear what Holy Spirit is saying.\u00a0 <\/span>And......one cannot even hear in the realm of\nthe Spirit unless they spend time in that realm.\u00a0 <\/span>When you spend time with the Lord, there is a\nchange that takes place in you, your nature, your character, the way you\nbehave, the way you think.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Notice what happened when Peter and\nJohn began to do the works that Jesus did. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>"Now when they\nsaw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and\nignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had\nbeen with Jesus<\/u>."<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(Acts 4:13)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When Jesus sent forth His disciples\nto heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons and\npreach the Gospel of the Kingdom, there was an impartation that went with the\ndisciples.\u00a0 <\/span>What do I mean by this?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There was a transfer that took place\nin the Spirit realm.\u00a0 <\/span>When Jesus sent\nthem forth, He commissioned them.\u00a0 <\/span>With\nthat commissioning came an anointing.\u00a0\n<\/span>With that anointing came an empowering.\u00a0\n<\/span>With the empowering came a mantle, a covering, a transfer of divine\nauthority and power to accomplish what they had been commissioned to perform.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let me use some personal experience\nfor the sake of illustration.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Without retracing a lot of ground\nthat I've already discussed in prior posts, I grew up with angels.\u00a0 <\/span>They were my early companions.\u00a0 <\/span>I saw them on an almost daily basis for three\nyears.\u00a0 <\/span>When Jesus appeared at my bedside\nearly one morning and began to lay out His plan and purpose for my life, there\nwas a shift from that moment forward in my life.\u00a0 <\/span>The angelic realm was mere preparation.\u00a0 <\/span>It laid a foundation of "normalcy"\nfor the realm we generically refer to as "supernatural."\u00a0 <\/span>It paved the way for me to think "naturally\nsupernatural, and supernaturally natural."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

From the moment that Jesus first\nappeared at my bedside and began to lay out His purposes and His destiny in and\nfor my life, a transition began to take place in the way that I thought, in the\nthings I expected, and in my perception of unfolding events.\u00a0 <\/span>Two years later, when I experienced my first\ntrip to Heaven, communication in the Spirit had become second nature.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hmmmm.....let me rephrase that!\u00a0 <\/span>Communication in and through Holy Spirit had\nbecome the norm.\u00a0 <\/span>It was perfectly\nnatural.\u00a0 <\/span>From that day to this -- some 70\nyears later -- it has been the way I live and breathe.\u00a0 <\/span>I wouldn't know how to live any other way!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Though that experience at age nine\nwas only the first time I had the opportunity to visibly walk and talk with the\nLord side-by-side, from that day to this we have walked together continually --\nwhether I've been able to visibly see Him there or not.\u00a0 <\/span>And that, my friends, changes a person's\noutlook on everything!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There is an intertwining of\npersonality that takes place when you walk together.\u00a0 <\/span>There is a transfer of character and makeup\nthat happens.\u00a0 <\/span>This is absolutely\nessential and intrinsic to discipleship.\u00a0\n<\/span>The more I have lived and walked with and in Christ Jesus, the more I\nhave taken on His character and nature.\u00a0\n<\/span>(Oh, and by the way, He's not finished with me yet.\u00a0 <\/span>There is still more change to take\nplace!\u00a0 <\/span>[Smile!])<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One of the most practical aspects of\ndiscipleship and discipling is that one must first be a disciple of the Lord\nJesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>One must always remain in\na place of submission to Holy Spirit.\u00a0\n<\/span>One must not only listen but respond.\u00a0\n<\/span>The first and most basic tenet of discipleship is -- as Francis of\nAssisi used to put it -- "to hear and obey."\u00a0 <\/span>It is absolutely impossible for me to lead\nsomeone into a way of living and walking in Christ Jesus that I have not first\nlived and walked.\u00a0 <\/span>I can't promote a\ntheory and hope it actually works for someone.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One of the reasons why we have seen\nsuch a watering down of the Gospel throughout the years is that being "in\nChrist" and having "Christ in us" has become a religious\nphilosophy -- a theory, if you will -- lacking in reality and practical\nliving.\u00a0 <\/span>Christianity is anything but a\nreligion.\u00a0 <\/span>It is not a theory.\u00a0 <\/span>It is a lifestyle with naturally supernatural\nimplications.\u00a0 <\/span>There is a dynamic to it\nthat is absolutely foreign to the societies of this world.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus Christ was and is God\nincarnate!\u00a0 <\/span>In the flesh!\u00a0 <\/span>In the here and now!\u00a0 <\/span>Without the transfer of character and\npersonality, without the impartation of the divine nature and makeup of who and\nwhat Jesus is, made visible and operational and functional on a daily basis in\nus, anything we have to say becomes "sounding brass and tinkling\ncymbals" devoid of Kingdom life and reality!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As first, disciples of<\/i><\/b>\nJesus Christ, and then disciplers for<\/i><\/b> Him of others also desiring to\nwalk the Kingdom life, we impose the light and the sound of Heaven whenever and\nwherever we go.\u00a0 <\/span>It is impossible to do\notherwise.\u00a0 <\/span>Our very presence brings\nchange wherever we are.\u00a0 <\/span>Our very\npresence impacts the environment.\u00a0 <\/span>At\nleast, it had better do so!\u00a0 <\/span>Otherwise\nwe're a bunch of frauds who live a religious lifestyle without the reality of\nintimacy with the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Roughly 35 years ago, Della went to\nwork in the jewelry business, beginning as an assistant manager for a\nfamily-owned jewelry store in Anchorage.\u00a0\n<\/span>The main store manager had been brought into the store to run it based\non the recommendation of others in the business.\u00a0 <\/span>This person -- a lady -- led a very worldly\nlifestyle and was totally devoid of any sensitivities to Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>It didn't take long for the very presence of\nthe Lord in Della to become threatening to this woman despite the fact that\nDella was very quiet and non-confrontational.\u00a0\n<\/span>She became more and more uncomfortable with Della's presence in the\nstore.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Della and I began to pray for this\nlady.\u00a0 <\/span>The more we prayed the more\nnervous and uncomfortable she became, to the point that she began making\naccusations about Della to the family that owned the store.\u00a0 <\/span>One of the owner's daughters was sent into\nthe store to work with Della just to assess the situation.\u00a0 <\/span>This young lady responded enthusiastically to\nthe presence of the Lord in Della and a bond of friendship formed -- one that\nwould last for years to follow.\u00a0 <\/span>The\nexisting store manager was shortly thereafter moved out of that store to\nanother location.\u00a0 <\/span>The owner's daughter\nstayed on to groom Della to manage outright one of their stores, and it wasn't\nlong before Della was given a different store to run on her own.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In the years that followed the\nblessing and the presence of the Lord went with her.\u00a0 <\/span>When she transitioned over to work with and\nmanage for Zales Jewelers, the company's corporate managers saw and recognized\nthe anointing of the Lord.\u00a0 <\/span>The regional\nmanagers began to use her as a trouble-shooter to ferret out corruption and\nthievery among their stores.\u00a0 <\/span>Everywhere\nshe went, dishonest and lazy employees were exposed and removed who were\nnegatively affecting the store's performance and image in the community.\u00a0 <\/span>Everywhere she went, she brought\nprofitability and honor, in several instances setting sales records for those\nlocations.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Beyond that, Della became a mentor\nand a "discipler" in an economic sense training and creating\nmanagement teams for the company.\u00a0 <\/span>But\nher "discipling" ran far beyond the material and business world.\u00a0 <\/span>It became a joy and a pleasure to lead some\nof those employees into a committed walk with the Lord Jesus Christ and to\nmentor them spiritually.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I've shared all that just to\nillustrate the fact that when there is true integrity in your walk with the\nLord and a continual pursuit of His presence and the excellence of His\ncharacter, you cannot help but influence and change the spiritual climate in\nwhich you live and operate daily.\u00a0 <\/span>The\nauthority of the Lord goes with you and the blessing of the Lord manifests in\nyour labors and your work ethic.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As disciples of Jesus Christ and\nthen Kingdom representatives, we are both ambassadors AND part of Heaven's\nroyalty.\u00a0 <\/span>As such we have been given both\nauthority and the responsibility of bringing the earth back under subjection to\nHeaven.\u00a0 <\/span>We DON'T rule over people!\u00a0 <\/span>We DO rule, however, over the spiritual realm\n-- and with it, and in the process thereof, take dominion over thrones and\nprincipalities and rulers of the darkness of this world in the realm of the\nspirit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

THAT, all by itself, brings change\nin people and influences natural events, spiritual events, political events and\neconomic events around us!\u00a0 <\/span>It is our\nresponsibility as active believers to put into action the Word of the Lord in\nthe earth and to enforce the peace of God in our societies.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The apostle Paul put it like this:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nTimothy 2:1:<\/span><\/u><\/b>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/span>"I exhort\ntherefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and<\/i>\ngiving of thanks, be made for all men; \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>For kings, and for<\/i> all that are\nin authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and\nhonesty.\u00a0 <\/span>For this is<\/i> good and\nacceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Who will have all men to be saved, and\nto come unto the knowledge of the truth."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\ncannot force men and women against their will to come to the knowledge of\nsalvation, and we cannot force people to lead a disciplined life in Christ\nJesus.\u00a0 <\/span>We can, however, fulfill our\nresponsibilities as Kingdom representatives to bring about the change in our\nsociety -- change which must first begin in the realm of the Spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>We first implement that change through prayer\nand intercession.\u00a0 <\/span>After that, depending\non the rhema of Holy Spirit, we begin to declare and decree.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nare first spirit beings.\u00a0 <\/span>We are\nsecondly, soul, and thirdly, body -- in that order.\u00a0 <\/span>If we desire to bring about the necessary\nchange to our societies, it must begin first as disciples of the Lord Jesus\nChrist, living under submission and subjection to Holy Spirit, and then -- as\nHe so orchestrates -- discipling those around us in order <\/span>to implement\nKingdom change in the earth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Are\nyou hearing this?\u00a0 <\/span>Great!\u00a0 <\/span>See you next week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"If\nwe are just in the flock of the Lord's companions, the veils will remain and we\nwill only obliquely be able to see His glory and be changed by it. This is why\nmy goal in ministry has never been to make people my personal disciples but to\nhelp everyone I can to become a personal disciple of Christ Jesus Himself.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

As\nwe also can note from John 10, it is His sheep who know His voice, not His\nlambs. While we are young in the\nLord, we will have to follow others until we learn to know His voice, but my\nhope is to have my own veils removed and those of all I can help along their\nway<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/b>. We must see Him in\norder to be changed into His image, not just become the image of one of His\nfriends.<\/o:p><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

What would any man think if his children\nall looked like his best friend? We need to consider what we're doing when we're\nleaders who are trying to get people to conform to us rather than to Him. Our\nlives can and should be good examples for others, but as the Apostle Paul\nstated, he was in labor until Christ was formed in His people. This is our\ngoal."<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>(Prophetic Word from\nRick Joyner)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n
