Resurrection From the Dead, Part 16<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

October 12, 2018<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

A couple weeks ago, I quoted a statement that I\u2019ve heard on\nnumerous occasions during the past weeks.\u00a0\n<\/span>One of the oft-used phrases I\u2019ve heard from both a dentist and a medical\ndoctor in the past few weeks is, \u201cYour health begins in your mouth.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>I got to thinking about that and realized\nthat there\u2019s more truth in that statement than meets the eye.\u00a0 <\/span>No statement could be more applied to the\nconfession that comes out of our mouths regarding our deliverance from death,\nthe curse of death, and the power of the Resurrection as it applies to our\ndaily living.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Have\nyou ever noticed how Jesus only commanded the keeping of two statutes, customs\nor ordinances for us as believers?\u00a0 <\/span>Both\nof them incorporate the end of death and the cancellation of our appointment\nwith death.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nfirst<\/u> of the two commands comes in the observance of the Table of the\nLord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Corinthians 11:23-26 (NASB)<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>For I received from the Lord that which I also\ndelivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed\ntook bread; \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>and when He had\ngiven thanks, He broke it and said, <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cThis is My body, which is for you; do\nthis in remembrance of Me.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>In\nthe same way He took<\/i> the cup also after supper, saying, \u201cThis cup is the\nnew covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it,<\/i> in\nremembrance of Me.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>For as\noften as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord\u2019s death\nuntil He comes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nsecond<\/u> of the two commandments came after Jesus was crucified and had\nrisen from the dead.\u00a0 <\/span>This second of the\ntwo commandments had the force of the Throne of God backing it in terms of its\ndemonstrative authority and power.\u00a0 <\/span>Both\nMatthew and Mark record this command:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 28:18-20<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All\npower is given unto me in heaven and in earth. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,\nbaptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy\nGhost: \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Teaching them to\nobserve all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you\nalway, even<\/i> unto the end of the world. Amen.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Mark 16:15-16<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to\nevery creature. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>He that\nbelieveth<\/span> (<\/span><\/b>pisteuo<\/span><\/u><\/i><\/b>:\nexercises faith<\/span><\/i><\/b>) <\/span><\/b>and is baptized<\/span> (<\/span><\/b>baptizo<\/span><\/u><\/i><\/b>:\ncovered over, fully whelmed by water or fluid<\/span><\/i><\/b>) <\/span><\/b>shall be saved<\/span> (<\/span><\/b>sozo<\/span><\/u><\/i><\/b>:\nsaved, delivered, healed, protected, made to prosper, made whole and complete<\/span><\/i><\/b>); <\/span><\/b>but he that believeth not shall be damned<\/span> <\/span>(<\/span><\/b>katakrino<\/span><\/u><\/i><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span>judged, condemned and sentenced<\/span><\/i><\/b>).<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Ever\nwonder what baptism is all about?\u00a0 <\/span>Have\nyou ever considered why Jesus would make such a command in the first place?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nconsider what He said when He was preaching to Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews\nand a Pharisee.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 3:5-8<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born\nof water and of<\/i> the Spirit<\/u>, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.\n\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>That which is born of the\nflesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye\nmust be born again. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>The wind bloweth<\/span> where it listeth<\/span>, and\nthou hearest<\/span> the sound thereof, but canst not tell\nwhence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the\nSpirit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Remember\nwhat happened when the centurion pierced Jesus\u2019 side while He was hanging on\nthe Cross?\u00a0 <\/span>Water and blood came forth\nfrom Him.\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus\u2019 last words before He\ndied were, \u201cIt is finished!\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nwhat was finished?\u00a0 <\/span>Death.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nwas finished?\u00a0 <\/span>A new birth was taking\nplace: a bride was being birthed for the Lord Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>But this birth was unlike any in\nhistory.\u00a0 <\/span>In the realm of the flesh, a\nbirth takes place in the midst of\u00a0 <\/span>water\nand blood.\u00a0 <\/span>Babies come forth out of the\nwater or amniotic fluid that keeps them alive while they are still in the womb,\nand blood accompanies the birthing process.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus,\nhowever, made it clear that this new birth was NOT of water \u2014 not in the normal\nsense \u2014 nor of blood, even though His blood was shed in the process.\u00a0 <\/span>A supernatural transformation \u2014 a\nregeneration \u2014 was taking place.\u00a0 <\/span>This\nnew birth was taking place in that realm which has authority and power over the\nflesh and the soul: the spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>A\ndimensional change was occurring.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 Hence,\nJesus said to Nicodemus, <\/span>\u201cThat which is born of the flesh is\nflesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.\u201c<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Because\ndeath only affects our flesh, because death has power over unredeemed flesh, a\nnew kind of birth had to take place \u2014 one that had never before occurred in\nhistory.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Think\nback to when Adam was created. \u00a0<\/span>He wasn\u2019t\nborn in the\u00a0 <\/span>normal sense of the\nword.\u00a0 <\/span>He was formed, molded and created\nby the Hand of God, but not until God breathed into him the breath of His\nSpirit did Adam become a living, breathing, speaking being.\u00a0 <\/span>Adam was born, or rather began his existence,\nof and by the Spirit of God.\u00a0 <\/span>Adam\u2019s very\nbreath was the Spirit of God.\u00a0 <\/span>He existed\nby the Spirit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nBlessing operated in and through him by the Spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>He ruled and had dominion over the earth (and\nall that was therein) by the Spirit.\u00a0\n<\/span>(See Psalm 115:16)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nAdam missed the mark (hamartia<\/span><\/i><\/b>)\n\u2014 the prize of God\u2019s high calling in him \u2014 and ate of the Tree of the Knowledge\nof Good and Evil, he ingested HIV: the human immunodeficiency virus, which was\ninherent in the fruit of that tree.\u00a0 <\/span>As\nwe all know, there is no cure for HIV.\u00a0\n<\/span>Death is the permanent result.\u00a0\n<\/span>And that death is genetically passed on to every generation which\nfollows.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nget back to the Table of the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Why\ndid Jesus command us to eat and drink of Him \u2014 and do it often?\u00a0 <\/span>The apostle Paul was very clear in his\nexplanation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For as often as you eat this bread and\ndrink the cup, you proclaim<\/span> (<\/span><\/b>kataggelo<\/span><\/u><\/i><\/b>:\nannounce and demonstrate, promulgate<\/span><\/i><\/b>) <\/span><\/b>the Lord\u2019s death until He comes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now\nyou\u2019re beginning to get the picture.\u00a0\n<\/span>Jesus\u2019 most earnest desire is that we promulgate, that we\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>announce to the world the fact that He kept\nour appointment with death.\u00a0 <\/span>We no longer\nhave to suffer death, disease, sickness, infirmity, poverty, etc.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But\nthere\u2019s more.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nis important that we not only show the world our deliverance from death: we\nmust also demonstrate to Satan, to principalities, to rulers of this world\u2019s\ndarkness, that we\u2019ve been set free from the curse of death, that we\u2019ve been\nfreed from Satan\u2019s dominion, that we\u2019ve been restored the authority, the power\nand the dominion originally given to Adam in the Garden of Eden.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Water\nbaptism does just that.\u00a0 <\/span>This ordinance \u2014\nthis statute \u2014has enormous spiritual significance.\u00a0 <\/span>This isn\u2019t for the world\u2019s sake, even though\nit is part of an outward show, a demonstration of a spiritual regeneration that\nhas taken place.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis a \u201cHands Off!\u201d declaration to Satan.\u00a0\n<\/span>This is the posting of a legal decree which clearly states we are no\nlonger members of that class of human beings subject to the Law of Sin and\nDeath.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nold being which was subject to death and had the \u201cknowledge virus\u201d in our genes\nhas been put to death. The appointment with death has been kept.\u00a0 <\/span>The person who then comes up out of the water\nis raised from the dead by the Spirit of God. \u00a0<\/span>This newly-born individual is born again \u2014\nboth of water AND of the Spirit!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once\nagain we have Paul\u2019s description to the Romans: <\/span>\u201call of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized\ninto His death.<\/u>\u201c<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Yessir!\u00a0 <\/span>The appointment with death has been kept.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nagain Paul says, <\/span>\u201cas Christ was raised from the dead\nthrough the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.<\/u>\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\n\u201cnew us\u201d is no longer subject to the Law of Sin and Death.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Romans 8:2<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from\nthe law of sin and death.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\n\u201cnew us\u201d is free from death, sickness, disease, infirmity, weakness, poverty,\nneed, etc.\u00a0 <\/span>Now we\u2019re free to demonstrate\nJesus!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 Jesus\nestablished a pattern for all believers when He was baptized in the River\nJordan by John and a remarkable thing took place.\u00a0 <\/span>We need to look at this event in context.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 3:13-17<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John,\nto be baptized of him. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>But\nJohn forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to\nme? \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>And Jesus answering said\nunto him, Suffer it to be so<\/i> now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all\nrighteousness. Then he suffered him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went\nup straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and\nhe saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo\na voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Up\nto this time, Jesus had been an ordinary man.\u00a0\n<\/span>Yes, He was the Son of God, and Yes, He was destined to bring\ndeliverance from the curse, but He had not yet been empowered to do so by the\nFather.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\nfar as the world was concerned, Jesus was just another man \u2014 a gifted man, One\nwhose knowledge of the Scripture at age 12 had astounded the most learned among\nthe priests, the Levites, the Pharisees, the Sadducees and scholars \u2014 but still\nseen as an ordinary man.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Nothing\nexhibited in His life thus far could be quantified as \u201cdivine\u201d or\n\u201csupernatural.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>For His ministry to\nbegin, something extraordinary had to take place.\u00a0 <\/span>There had to be a transition from \u201cordinary\u201d\nto \u201cnaturally supernatural and supernaturally natural.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Notice\nwhat happened when Jesus was baptized.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

1.<\/span><\/b> He\ntransferred His citizenship to the Kingdom of Heaven.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

2.<\/span><\/b> The Holy\nSpirit appeared on the scene, settling as a dove on Jesus before all who\nwitnessed this event<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

3.<\/span><\/b> All Heaven\nwas put on notice that Jesus was now THE<\/span><\/i>\n<\/b>SON OF GOD.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

4.<\/span><\/b> The Father\nspoke out of Heaven and stated emphatically and unequivocally, \u201cThis is My\nBeloved Son!\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

5.<\/span><\/b> As the SON OF\nGOD, He was now vested with the authority and power of The Father.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

6.<\/span><\/b> The \u201cman\u201d\nJesus had become the Messiah, the Christ, The \u201cAnointed One.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

7.<\/span><\/b> Baptism demonstrated\nbefore principalities and powers, before the rulers of the darkness of this\nworld, before Satan himself that the \u201cold Jesus\u201d was dead.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

8.<\/span><\/b> A \u201cNew Man\u201d\nhad come forth out of the grave, resurrected by the power of God, transformed\ninto a trans-dimensional Being with the ability to function both in this\nnatural realm and in the realm of the Spirit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Are\nyou seeing it?\u00a0 <\/span>God the Father vested\nHimself in and made clear to all<\/i> that Jesus WAS His Son, His appointed\nand commissioned family member to bring redemption from the curse of death, and\nfrom the curse of the Law of Sin and Death.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nfact that Satan saw this event take place or was notified of it shook him and\nhis kingdom to the core.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\u2019s\nthe first thing that Satan did when Jesus \u2014 after fasting for 40 days \u2014 was at\nhis weakest, physically and emotionally? Right.\u00a0\n<\/span>He questioned Jesus repeatedly as to His status as THE Son of God,\nattempting to trick Him into yielding to the desires of His flesh.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Were\nJesus to have yielded to even one of these temptations, He would have forfeited\nHis Sonship status and condemned the human race to perpetuity in slavery and\nbondage to Satan and the curse.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s wrap this up\nnext week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
