Resurrection From the Dead, Part 15<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

When I wrapped up last week, I told\nyou that I had a story to share with you.\u00a0\n<\/span>This story relates directly to the experience I had at the age of seven\nwhen Jesus appeared at my bedside and began to lay out His plan and purpose for\nmy life.\u00a0 <\/span>As I shared with you last week,\none of the promises He made to me was that I would never know death \u201cas men\nknow death\u201d and that I would be here to walk into the millennial reign with\nHim.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nhave certainly been many efforts of Satan to rob me of that promise and to\nprevent that Word from being fulfilled.\u00a0\n<\/span>Let\u2019s call this a series of stories that illustrate just how Satan\nthought to cancel out the promises of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nfirst event took place when I was perhaps 15 years of age.\u00a0 <\/span>We were living in Barrow, Alaska and in the\nmidst of an enlargement of the church building.\u00a0\n<\/span>My brother and I talked our folks into letting us pitch a tent outside\nand \u201ccamp out\u201d during part of the construction phase.\u00a0 <\/span>We had our sleeping bags and some folding\ncots, and a kerosene cook stove that we used for heat.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nnight, in the process of lighting the stove, the kerosene leaked out and burst\ninto flames.\u00a0 <\/span>In a matter of seconds I\nwas covered in burning kerosene.\u00a0 <\/span>We had\na throw rug on the floor of the tent and my brother grabbed it and threw it\nover me to extinguish the flames.\u00a0\n<\/span>Miraculously, I suffered no burns or injuries.\u00a0 <\/span>I did have to destroy the clothing I was\nwearing, and we didn\u2019t tell our folks what had happened for some time for fear\nthat they would cancel our \u201ccamp out.\u201d <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

While\nworking with David Wilkerson in the San Francisco Bay Teen Challenge outreach\nduring a period of time when I was in Bible College, I was driving in the Santa\nCruz mountains headed for a meeting where we expected to minister to a fair\nnumber of young people whom we had talked to on the streets of San Jose, Santa\nClara and Santa Cruz.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Coming\naround a curve in the highway I hit a patch of soft gravel that road workers\nhad left.\u00a0 <\/span>My car twitched sideways and I\nreacted to correct the slide.\u00a0 <\/span>It became\nvery apparent that my corrective effort wasn\u2019t going to be enough and we were\ngoing off the road.\u00a0 <\/span>I hollered, \u201cJESUS\u201d\nat the top of my voice.\u00a0 <\/span>In that same\ninstant the Holy Spirit spoke audibly in me and said, \u201cNothing\u2019s going to\nhappen to you.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\ncar hit a rain gutter on the side of the road, propelled into the air and\nsailed 120 feet into trees, dropping 90 feet on its nose.\u00a0 <\/span>When it was over, the young lady who was\nriding with me and I were both in the back next to the tailgate (we were in a\nstation wagon) still attached to the front seat.\u00a0 <\/span>Except for some glass in my hair, I hadn\u2019t\neven suffered any bruises.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\npassing motorist saw the headlights in the ravine and stopped to check.\u00a0 <\/span>He had to lower a rope to help us climb out\nand took us to a local hospital to be checked out.\u00a0 <\/span>The young lady riding with me had suffered a\ngash on her head that needed stitches.\u00a0\n<\/span>While we were at the hospital, a California Highway Patrolman showed\nup.\u00a0 <\/span>His question when he walked in was,\n\u201cOK, where\u2019s the bodies?\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>He couldn\u2019t\nbelieve that we had survived the accident with as little consequence, and I\nsimply told him that \u201cthe Lord was with us.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nthere was the event in 1967 when, after a day at Big Bear Lake, we were driving\nback, coming down a narrow highway with no guard rails.\u00a0 <\/span>A former college classmate and his wife were\nriding with us.\u00a0 <\/span>Suddenly, the right\nfront tire blew.\u00a0 <\/span>With temporary loss of\nsteering, the car veered off the side of the road and we plunged down some 250\nfeet.\u00a0 <\/span>Of course, the car was rolling\nover several times.\u00a0 <\/span>It came to a stop on\na big mound of dirt with the passenger doors open.\u00a0 <\/span>My wife and daughter were laying out the door\non the ground<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/span>Had\nthe car continued to roll, it would have crushed them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Where\nit stopped was a miracle in itself.\u00a0 <\/span>We\ncould have continued down another thousand feet.\u00a0 <\/span>Once again, except for some loose glass in\nour hair, no one was injured in any way, despite the fact that the car was\ncompletely totaled.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

These\nare only a few of many times when Satan made a serious effort to kill me.\u00a0 <\/span>The Word of the Lord has held true to me for\nthe 69 years that have passed since Jesus made that promise.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

However,\nit is important to share a revelation that came in early 1970.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019d been introduced to the ministry of Derek\nPrince.\u00a0 <\/span>He was sharing on deliverance\nfrom evil spirits and in the course of his message noted a particular event in\nwhich he had encountered an accident-prone spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>As soon as he mentioned that, something\nleaped inside my being.\u00a0 <\/span>I knew that I\nhad been targeted by that spirit for my destruction.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

My\ninsurance company had labeled me \u201caccident-prone\u201d and my annual insurance costs\nalmost equaled the purchase of a new auto: this, after some 30 or so\naccidents.\u00a0 <\/span>I immediately took steps to\nrebuke and kick out that accident prone spirit.\u00a0\n<\/span>In the nearly 50 years since, I\u2019ve never had another accident.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019ve\nshared with you the attempts that were made on my life by religious people who\ntook great offense to my preaching and teaching on deliverance from evil\nspirits.\u00a0 <\/span>Those efforts became violent to\nthe place that two attempts were made by snipers to take me out.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nfirst happened when I was driving in our ministry van.\u00a0 <\/span>A shot rang out and the bullet pierced the\nvan about six inches behind me passing through the back side of the driver\u2019s\nseat.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\nsecond effort was made when I was standing in a construction shack on the site\nwhere we were expecting to build a new worship center.\u00a0 <\/span>Standing in front of the window (we didn\u2019t\nhave electricity wired in yet) with one of the elders in the fellowship, Holy\nSpirit simply picked me up physically and moved me back about six inches or\nso.\u00a0 <\/span>In that split second, the window\nexploded as a bullet passed between the two of us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nopened the door of the shack to see a man standing on the road about three\nhundred feet or so away with a rifle.\u00a0 <\/span>I\nhollered at him and said, \u201cHey!\u00a0 <\/span>What do\nyou think you\u2019re doing,\u201d and took off running towards him.\u00a0 <\/span>That wasn\u2019t what he expected.\u00a0 <\/span>He dropped the rifle and turned to run\ntowards a waiting vehicle.\u00a0 <\/span>He stopped,\ngrabbed the rifle, jumped into the waiting vehicle and sped away.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then,\nagain, you\u2019ve heard me share what happened not long after Della and I were\nmarried when I dropped in the shower from a heart attack.\u00a0 <\/span>Della wasn\u2019t about to allow the Enemy to do\nthat to us.\u00a0 <\/span>She was (and still is)\nroughly half my size.\u00a0 <\/span>She dragged me out\nof the shower into the bedroom, heaved me up onto the bed and commenced to\nspeak life back into me.\u00a0 <\/span>I was gone for\nperhaps 20 minutes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nI came to, Della was straddling me with her hand upraised and shaking her fist,\nshouting, \u201cYou will come back in Jesus\u2019 name.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\npromise of the Lord at age seven was the confirmation of what Paul wrote in\nRomans 8:2 when he said, <\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/i>The Law of the Spirit of Life\nin Christ Jesus hath made me free from the Law of Sin and Death.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nare free from the Law of Sin and Death!\u00a0\n<\/span>The Table of the Lord has been given to us to remind us of that fact and\nto give us the opportunity to eat the Bread of Life continually.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme amplify Paul\u2019s statement a bit.\u00a0 <\/span>The\nLaw of Sin and Death incorporates our susceptibility and vulnerability to\ndisease, sickness, infirmity, weakness and poverty.\u00a0 <\/span>The Law of Sin and Death is that \u2014 without\nthe Life that is in Christ Jesus \u2014 we have an empowerment to fail.\u00a0 <\/span>There is an absolute lack of the Blessing of\nthe Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Reminding\nus of the principal purpose and design of this \u201cordinance\u201d we know as the Table\nof the Lord is Paul\u2019s statement to the Ekklesia in Corinth:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Corinthians 11:23-29<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>For I have received\nof the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same\nnight in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he\nbrake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this\ndo in remembrance of me<\/u>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped,\nsaying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye\ndrink it, in remembrance of me.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/u><\/p>\n\n

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do\nshow the Lord\u2019s death till he come<\/span><\/u>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n

Are\nyou seeing it?\u00a0 <\/span>We are showing \u2014 putting\non display and reminding ourselves \u2014 that Jesus kept our appointment with\ndeath.\u00a0 <\/span>We no longer need to fret with\ndeath.\u00a0 <\/span>We are no longer subject to the\ncurse of death and all that it brings in the form of disease, sickness,\ninfirmity, weakness, shortened life spans, etc.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Think\nfor a moment about what David wrote in the 91st Psalm.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 91:9-16<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>Because thou hast\nmade the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There\nshall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For he shall give his\nangels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.\u00a0 <\/span>They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest\nthou dash thy foot against a stone.\u00a0 <\/span>Thou\nshalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou\ntrample under feet.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Because he hath set\nhis love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because\nhe hath known my name.\u00a0 <\/span>He shall call\nupon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver\nhim, and honour him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

With long life will I\nsatisfy him, and show him my salvation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus said it quite unequivocally.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 6:54-57<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0\n<\/span><\/span><\/b>Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life<\/span><\/u>;\nand I will raise him up at the last day.\u00a0\n<\/span>For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me,\nand I in him. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup><\/u>As\nthe living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me,\neven he shall live by me<\/span><\/u>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nsee it, don\u2019t you?\u00a0 <\/span>The <\/span>zoe<\/span><\/i><\/b> life that is\nChrist Jesus becomes our life as we eat and drink of the Lord Jesus Christ!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis no ritual; this is no commonplace practice: this is the infusing of Christ\nin us!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Romans 6:1-7\n(NASB)<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/i><\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b>What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may\nincrease? \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>May it never be!\nHow shall we who died to sin still live in it? \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Or do you not know that all of us who\nhave been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death<\/u>?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

Therefore we have been buried with\nHim through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead\nthrough the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life<\/u>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

For if we have become united with Him<\/i>\nin the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness<\/i>\nof His resurrection,\u00a0 <\/span>knowing this, that\nour old self was crucified with Him,<\/i> in order that our body of sin might\nbe done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7<\/sup>for\nhe who has died is freed from sin.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

II Corinthians\n5:21<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/b>For He hath made<\/span> (poieo<\/u><\/i><\/span>:\nappointed or committed<\/i>) <\/span><\/b>Him who knew no sin to be<\/i> sin<\/span> <\/span>(hamartia<\/u>:\nerror, missing the mark, failing to receive the prize<\/i>)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>for us,\nso that we might be made<\/span> <\/span>(ginomai<\/u>:\n[re-]generated) <\/span><\/i><\/b>the righteousness<\/span> <\/span>(dikaiosune<\/u>:\njustification, made just, holy \u2014 like God)<\/span><\/i><\/b>: <\/span>of God\nin Him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Della\nreceived a download \u2014 a revelation \u2014of this picture a couple years ago in one\nof our early-morning times of prayer and intercession.\u00a0 <\/span>She saw that when Jesus kept our appointment\nwith death, He made it as though it had never been.\u00a0 <\/span>The way she received it was \u201cjust as if it\nhad never been\u201d \u2014 hence, \u201cjustification.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

See\nthe picture?\u00a0 <\/span>Our appointment with death\nceased to exist.\u00a0 <\/span>It was as though it\nnever existed in the first place.\u00a0 <\/span>The\nsame is true of all the aspects of the curse that comes with death: sickness,\ndisease, infirmity, weakness, poverty, need of any kind; it was made as though\nit had never existed.\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus canceled it\nout so totally and completely that it was as if it had never been.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\ncontinue, therefore, to note how Jesus only commanded the keeping of two\nstatutes, customs or ordinances for us as believers?\u00a0 <\/span>Both of them incorporate the end of death and\nthe cancellation of our appointment with death.\u00a0\n<\/span>Our keeping of them is the keeping of the covenant that Jesus made with\nus and for us!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
