Deliver Us From Evil, Part 5<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

When we wrapped up last week, we were talking about the fact\nthat so many Christians are reluctant, or outright afraid of dealing with evil\nspirits and addressing them.\u00a0 <\/span>They\nbelieve that \u201cthat\u2019s only for really spiritual people\u201d or maybe even that \u201cthat\nwas only for Jesus and the apostles.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Whatever happened to the concept of \u201cChrist in you, the hope of\nGlory?\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Whatever happened to Jesus\u2019\nprayer in John 17?\u00a0 <\/span>Do you not think that\nHis prayer is answered? \u00a0<\/span>Consider what He\nprayed.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

John 17:20-23:<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span><\/b>Neither\npray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through\ntheir word;<\/span>\nThat they all may be one; as thou, Father, art<\/i>\nin me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may\nbelieve that thou hast sent me.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that\nthey may be one, even as we are one:<\/span> I in them,\nand thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may\nknow that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do you see it? <\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>I in them, and thou in\nme, that they may be made perfect <\/span>(Greek: teleios: completed -- accomplished)<\/span> in one.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Folks, we have to come to the place of not just understanding\nintellectually, but absolute KNOWING in the core of our beings that we are ONE\nwith the Lord Jesus Christ, that His authority rules and functions completely\nin us!\u00a0 <\/span>That means we have the same\nauthority over evil spirits that we saw Him exercise.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nput it like this: <\/span>\"Have the faith of God.\"<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(Mark 11:22)\u00a0 <\/span>Our KJV renders it, \"Have faith in\nGod,\" but that's not how the actual Greek text reads.\u00a0 <\/span>OK, so if we are commanded to have God's\nfaith, how do we get there?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Again,\nJesus didn't leave us without clear and unmistakable answers.\u00a0 <\/span>Consider how the apostle Paul put it in\nRomans 10:8:<\/span>\n\"The word <\/span><\/span>(<\/span><\/i>rhema<\/span><\/i><\/b>: <\/span><\/i>direct,\nspoken out loud word) <\/i><\/span>is near you, in your mouth and in\nyour heart -- that is, the word <\/span>(<\/span><\/i>rhema<\/span><\/i><\/b>: <\/span><\/i>direct,\nspoken out loud word) <\/i><\/span>of faith which we are\npreaching.\" <\/span>(NASB)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Again\nPaul writes in the same place, <\/span>\"So then faith comes by hearing,\nand hearing by the word <\/span>(<\/span><\/i>rhema: <\/span><\/i><\/b>direct,\nspoken out loud word<\/span>)\n<\/span>of God.\" <\/span>(Romans 10:17)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Get\nit?\u00a0 <\/span>We hear Him speak it inside\nourselves.\u00a0 <\/span>It may be quiet, it may be\nnothing more than a prompt, it might even be a whisper, but it is still\nsomething we hear.\u00a0 <\/span>He doesn't shout it,\nHe simply speaks it into us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nbecomes alive and active once we put wind to what we hear -- that is to say, it\ncomes forth from our vocal cords in agreement with what the Lord is speaking in\nour spirit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Several\nyears ago, Della and our daughter Rebekah happened to be working in group homes\n\u2014 not the same ones, of course \u2014 but sharing similar experiences.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Della\nwas dealing with people who were severely emotionally handicapped, and plagued\nby evil spirits.\u00a0 <\/span>She began taking her\nBible with her, bringing some of the residents of the home out to a quiet place\nin the back yard and reading and praying with them.\u00a0 <\/span>The spiritual impact of that one act alone\nwas nothing less than dramatic.\u00a0 <\/span>Each day\nwhen she arrived, she was greeted with, \"Are we going to read out Bibles\nnow?\" or some similar question.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nare a couple of residents who have been easily triggered into screaming\nrampages or violent outbursts.\u00a0 <\/span>With\nthese folks, Della has begun praying with them each day and getting them to\nfollow her in prayer, repeating after her something like the following:\n\"Father, in the name of Jesus, I take authority over my mind and my\nthoughts.\u00a0 <\/span>I place them under submission\nto you.\u00a0 <\/span>I receive a Spirit of Peace in\nmy being and I submit myself to you.\u00a0\n<\/span>Restore my mind.\u00a0 <\/span>Restore my\nbrain.\u00a0 <\/span>Restore me so that I can achieve\nthe destiny you have planned for me.\u00a0 <\/span>I\ndeclare this in the name of Jesus.\u00a0\n<\/span>Amen.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

To\nsay that it has had an effect in them is an understatement.\u00a0 <\/span>It gives a whole new dimension to the power\nand the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ that we can release with the words\nthat come out of our mouths.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nhappens, then, when we hear that prompting inside and respond to it by speaking\nwhat we hear is that we see tangible results -- the kind of results that Della\nsaw, and the kind of results that Rebekah saw.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nof her charges was a young man who was in his late twenties.\u00a0 <\/span>One day she called us quite disturbed because\nthe young man in question was waking up in the morning with what appeared to be\nbite marks and scratches all over his back.\u00a0\n<\/span>The injuries were clear and unmistakable.\u00a0 <\/span>The other health workers in the home simply\ndismissed it as his having nightmares, sleep-walking and injuring himself in\nthe process.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Rebekah\nhas seen enough with our ministry throughout the years to know better and she\ncalled to ask what she could do about it.\u00a0\n<\/span>We told her to first document each instance, and if possible to get the\nagency responsible for the home to install a night-vision camera in the young\nman's room.\u00a0 <\/span>The agency refused the\nrequest so Rebekah decided to do what she's seen us do and what we have\nchallenged her to do in years gone by.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nyoung man in question had been greatly tormented for years, and yet he was --\nand had been -- a Bible-believing Christian.\u00a0\n<\/span>Rebekah took him to some scriptures to show him how Jesus dealt with\nthese issues, and made it clear to him that she felt he was dealing with evil\nspirits.\u00a0 <\/span>He had grown up in a home where\nhe was taught that Christians couldn't be tormented by evil spirits.\u00a0 <\/span>It's a nice religious doctrine that pacifies\na lot of folks and makes them feel good momentarily, but it doesn't get them\nthe help they need, or the deliverance that Jesus paid for on their behalf.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

After\nshowing him some pertinent scriptures, Rebekah recommended that he pray with\nher and take authority over the evil spirits that had been tormenting him and\ncommand them to leave him in Jesus' name.\u00a0\n<\/span>He did so immediately.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We've\nshared with Rebekah the event that happened with Smith Wigglesworth many years\nago (and a similar thing happened to Kenneth Hagin) in which he awoke one\nmorning early to see Satan standing over him.\u00a0\n<\/span>Smith Wigglesworth looked up at him and said, \"Ohh<\/span>!\u00a0 <\/span>It's only you,\" and turned over in his\nbed and went back to sleep.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Rebekah\nshared this with the young man and told him that he could do the same\nthing.\u00a0 <\/span>Other than that, she said,\n\"Just tell the demon or Satan to get out of your room and leave you alone\nin the name of Jesus.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\ncouple of nights later, that's exactly what happened.\u00a0 <\/span>The young man woke up feeling pain in his\nback and turned over to see a demon standing there with his fingers dug into\nhis back.\u00a0 <\/span>He yelled at him, \"Get\nout of here in the name of Jesus, and don't come back!\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nyoung man was quick to tell Rebekah about it the next morning, and he was\necstatic!\u00a0 <\/span>\"It worked!\u00a0 <\/span>It worked!\u00a0\n<\/span>Satan left me alone!\u00a0 <\/span>He stopped scratching\nand biting me and left.\"\u00a0 <\/span>Weeks\nlater, the last we heard, the young man was still free of those events.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Roughly\nthree and a half years ago while gathered for prayer with a group of local\npastors and church leaders, one of the men shared a prayer request for his\ngranddaughter who was struggling with epileptic seizures.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\nhad requested prayer for her a couple of times previously and we had all prayed\nour usual prayers of agreement for her healing and deliverance both times.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\ntime was different.\u00a0 <\/span>As he shared how she\nwas being battered about by the Enemy and the number of seizures was increasing\ndramatically, anger against the Enemy rose up in me in a way that's hard to put\ninto words.\u00a0 <\/span>There was a passion that\ncame out of the core of my being.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nWord of the Lord spontaneously came out of my mouth and I began to decree and\ndeclare the Word of deliverance for this young woman.\u00a0 <\/span>I commanded that spirit to loose<\/span> her from that moment forth and declared her complete\nhealing and restoration from any physical or mental or emotional damage done to\nher on the basis of I Peter 2:24, which reads like this:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Peter 2:24<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Who his own self bare\nour sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live\nunto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Her\ndeliverance, her healing and her restoration were already paid for by the Lord\nJesus Christ and He deserved to get from her what He paid for!\u00a0 <\/span>Now bear in mind that this young woman is not\nsomeone I've ever met -- and still haven't to this day.\u00a0 <\/span>She was many miles distant from our\ngathering.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Though\nI did not quote this particular Scripture, it is one that has come to mind more\noften in recent weeks and months than at any time previously, namely,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 107.20<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\"He sent his\nword, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nfulfilled that prophecy on several occasions.\u00a0\n<\/span>I remind you of the Centurion who said to Jesus, <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 8:8: <\/span><\/u><\/b>\"Lord, I\nam not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only,\nand my servant shall be healed.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\ndid so.\u00a0 <\/span>He sent His Word and the\nCenturion's servant was healed instantly.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nsame thing happened when the Word of the Lord -- a <\/span>rhema<\/span><\/i><\/b> -- came out of my\nmouth.\u00a0 <\/span>That was three-plus months ago,\nand the young woman has never had a seizure since.\u00a0 <\/span>She was healed and completely delivered from\nthose epileptic attacks.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nof the problems we all have as Christians is that we tend to think that this\nwill work for someone else -- and it certainly worked for Jesus -- but\n\"we're just not Jesus!\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Bahh!!\u00a0 <\/span>Humbug!!\u00a0\n<\/span>Again!!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Talk\nabout a lie of the Enemy!\u00a0 <\/span>Let's see, the\nlast time I looked, God's Word hadn't changed.\u00a0\n<\/span>Last time I checked, Ephesians 1:15-23 still says that Jesus is the head\nof the body, and WE are the body.\u00a0 <\/span>That\nmakes us part of Him.\u00a0 <\/span>We are\ninextricably woven with Him.\u00a0 <\/span>His DNA is\nour DNA.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ephesians 1:14-23<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Wherefore I\nalso, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the\nsaints, \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Cease not to give\nthanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,\nthe Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in\nthe knowledge of him: \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>The\neyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope\nof his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the\nsaints, \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>And what is<\/i>\nthe exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the\nworking of his mighty power,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead,\nand set him<\/i> at his own right hand in the heavenly places<\/i>, \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Far above all principality, and power,\nand might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world,\nbut also in that which is to come:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And hath put all things<\/i> under his feet, and gave him to\nbe<\/i> the head over all things<\/i> to the church, \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Which is his body, the fulness of him\nthat filleth all in all.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme shift gears for a minute to show you why folks struggle so much with\nunderstanding the authority they have in Christ Jesus.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nI was in Bible<\/st1:PlaceName> College<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> and Seminary, some of my\ninstructors were considered the leading theologians of their day, and I took\nthe time to study carefully what they had to say, their arguments and their\nconclusions.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nof my instructors was a noted archaeologist by the name of Dr. M. H.\nHeicksen.\u00a0 <\/span>He wasn\u2019t a theologian, but\nwhat he had to share had more impact on me than all the theologians I ever\nlistened to.\u00a0 <\/span>One of his comments to me,\nand to our class, was, \u201cYou\u2019ll find me different from many of your instructors\nhere.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m not here with an agenda to\nprove or disprove some pet doctrine.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m\nhere to show you how archaeology proves the Scriptures.\u00a0 <\/span>What you do with that proof is between you\nand the Lord.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nstatement was of greater value to me than all the theologians \u201cwisdom\u201d put\ntogether.\u00a0 <\/span>Why?\u00a0 <\/span>Because Dr. Heicksen didn\u2019t have an\nagenda.\u00a0 <\/span>He wasn\u2019t trying to prove some\ntheological point.\u00a0 <\/span>He wasn\u2019t getting\ntechnical with Greek and Hebrew, or tearing apart some manuscript and\npretending it was more or less valid than some other manuscript.\u00a0 <\/span>He wasn\u2019t trying to destroy faith.\u00a0 <\/span>He was enhancing it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Have\nyou ever considered the whole concept of \u201ctheology\u201d?\u00a0 <\/span>You know what the word means, don\u2019t you?\u00a0 <\/span>Right.\u00a0\n<\/span>It comes from two Greek words, Theos<\/i>\n(God \u2013 more specifically, the supreme Divinity) and logos<\/i>.\u00a0 <\/span>The word, logos<\/i>, comes from its root, lego<\/i>, which means: to articulate\nthought in words<\/u>, to engage in systematic discourse<\/u>, to speak out\nloud<\/u>.\u00a0 <\/span>Logos<\/i> means: something (already) said; a collection of thoughts or\nsayings, reasonings, sayings, (the Divine Expression \u2013 Thayer); a treatise.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus,\n\u201ctheology\u201d is the collective reasonings and study (or studies) of God.\u00a0 <\/span>A \u201ctheologian,\u201d by extension, is one who\nstudies God or attempts to reason out the things of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now!\u00a0 <\/span>Take a better look at that word.\u00a0 <\/span>The \u201cstudy\u201d of God?\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cReasoning\u201d out the things of God?\u00a0 <\/span>Wheww!\u00a0 <\/span>Talk about the sheer arrogance of man!\u00a0 <\/span>Do you realize just how cracked that is?\u00a0 <\/span>The created being is going to \u201cstudy\u201d or\n\u201creason out\u201d the Creator.\u00a0 <\/span>Uhh Huhh!\u00a0 <\/span>Suuuuurre<\/span>!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nnever realized for many years why it was that I had no use for theologians or\ntheology.\u00a0 <\/span>One day when I began to look\nat the core of those words, I realized just how much unbelief is at the core of\nthe \u201cstudy of God.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Therein\nlies the issue with folks who struggle with understanding their place, their\nposition, and their authority in God.\u00a0\n<\/span>Unbelief: the unbelief that stems from trying to \u201cstudy things out\u201d\ninstead of simply accepting the Word of Faith from Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve rattled on long enough for today.\u00a0 <\/span>Going to take you in another direction next\nweek with this sharing.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
