Deliver Us From Evil, Part 1<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

It is coming up on 50 years since I was first introduced to the\nministry of Deliverance by Derek Prince.\u00a0\n<\/span>In those 50 years, what I have learned and what I have seen has opened\nmy eyes to a realm of Jesus\u2019 ministry that is still greatly misunderstood in\nmany parts of the body of Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Because of what we have seen unfolding in the past few months\nand years, it is clear that we are in the midst of a battle Royal with the\nEnemy.\u00a0 <\/span>He has been losing ground, and is\ndoing everything in his power to fight against what God is doing in the earth\ntoday.\u00a0 <\/span>He has opposed (and continues to\noppose) any and all believers whose very existence threatens his domain.\u00a0 <\/span>He knows that his days are numbered and that\nhe is on the losing side.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

In the coming weeks, I would like to take you through a renewed\nunderstanding and revelation of this realm \u2014 a realm that encompassed fully\none-third of Jesus ministry as recorded in the Gospels.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

This\npast week, I woke up at 4:30 in the morning coming out of a vision that was as\nvivid as any vision I\u2019ve ever had.\u00a0 <\/span>I\nshared it with Neville and he agreed that it is a perfect description of what\nhas been taking place.\u00a0 <\/span>He also had a\nconfirming word from Bobby Connor that fit with what the Lord has been saying\nto us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nthis vision, we were in an open field.\u00a0\n<\/span>Our staff and leaders in the body of Christ were running around, trying\nto avoid a bunch of vultures who were swooping down and pecking at them.\u00a0 <\/span>Each time a vulture reached a person, he would\npick bits of flesh out of that person and drop them in the field.\u00a0 <\/span>This happened again and again and again.\u00a0 <\/span>The field was littered with bits of human\nflesh and the people were rapidly becoming bloody messes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nsaw a gigantic vulture appear \u2014 seemingly out of nowhere.\u00a0 <\/span>In my spirit, I knew that what I was seeing\nwas a picture of spiritual warfare.\u00a0 <\/span>The\nvultures were demons, attacking God\u2019s people, and especially those who were at\nthe forefront of what God is doing now.\u00a0\n<\/span>The gigantic vulture was none other than Satan, himself, who was there\nto direct the vultures and finish the destruction of God\u2019s people.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Laying\non the ground in front of me was a very large rock, perhaps 15 inches across, 8\ninches wide and six inches deep.\u00a0 <\/span>The\nLord spoke to me and said, \u201cPick up that rock and bring the big vulture down.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

My\nfirst instinct was that it was way too heavy for me to pick up and throw.\u00a0 <\/span>A sudden surge of strength flowed through me\nin that instant.\u00a0 <\/span>I picked the rock and\nhurled it at the giant vulture, striking it just below the head on the neck and\nupper body.\u00a0 <\/span>The vulture came crashing to\nthe ground.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nlay there flopping its wings in an attempt to get back up.\u00a0 <\/span>Again I received the instruction of the Lord,\n\u201cCrush the vulture\u2019s head with the rock.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/span>I picked up the rock again and brought it down on the vulture\u2019s head\nagain and again and again until I knew it was crushed.\u00a0 <\/span>Then I stomped on the head of that vulture,\ndeclaring victory.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Suddenly,\nall the bits of flesh that had been scattered over the field began to fly\nthrough the air and come back to the people from whom they had come.\u00a0 <\/span>In short order, everyone was whole\nagain!\u00a0 <\/span>It was a very clear picture of\nwhat is being required of us in these days.\u00a0\n<\/span>That rock was a picture of Christ Jesus.\u00a0\n<\/span>We use Him to crush the head of Satan, the vulture who is trying to pick\nus apart and destroy our effectiveness \u2014 if not us as individuals.\u00a0 <\/span>He is also trying to divide and conquer the\nunity that exists between those of us who are working together.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\nfew years ago, I met with a group of perhaps eight or ten pastors over lunch to\ndiscuss what is a really contentious topic still in many parts of the body of\nChrist: deliverance.\u00a0 <\/span>You understand that\nthis topic is only contentious for those folks who\u2019ve adopted the mindset and\ndoctrine that Christians can\u2019t be afflicted with evil spirits.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\ndoctrine really does come out of the mis-interpretation of the word, <\/span>daimonizomai<\/span><\/i><\/b>, and its usage in\nthe KJV as \u201cbeing possessed\u201d by demons.\u00a0\n<\/span>Possession conveys the wrong idea entirely.\u00a0 <\/span>Possession connotes ownership.\u00a0 <\/span>People aren\u2019t \u201cowned\u201d by demons, any more\nthan they are \u201cowned\u201d by the Holy Spirit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nwe invite Jesus Christ into our lives, He takes up \u201chis abode\u201d with us.\u00a0 <\/span>If we continue to yield to the leading and\nguidance He provides through the Holy Spirit, we have the opportunity and\nauthority to become totally free in every aspect of our lives.\u00a0 <\/span>Once a person has begun the process of\nsalvation, deliverance, healing, walking in health and prosperity, it is\nsomewhat like the kid who throws a big rock in a pond.\u00a0 <\/span>You have a big splash, but then there are the\nripples that seemingly continue outward for a long time thereafter.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Deliverance\nis like that.\u00a0 <\/span>Your initial experience of\nbeing set free from unclean spirits may be dramatic, but there are the ripples\n\u2013 the ongoing revelations that come by the Holy Spirit \u2013 that continue on for\nmonths, and sometimes years.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Demons,\nunclean spirits, evil spirits \u2013 no matter how you refer to them \u2013 can only\ncreate impulses; they can lead you through the pleasures of your flesh, they\ncan create thoughts in your mind, and they can drive you through fear, through\ndoubt or through unbelief to commit certain acts or take certain actions that\nlead you into sin, or take you away from the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Evil\nspirits operate in two ways: internally \u2013 through thoughts implanted in your\nmind, and externally \u2013 by creating a set of circumstances or \u201csupernatural\u201d\nmanifestations that generate fear, doubt and unbelief.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\neight or ten pastors that met with me that day over lunch knew, and confessed\nto me, that Christians could <\/b>be afflicted and tormented by evil\nspirits.\u00a0 <\/span>Nevertheless, they had adopted\n\u2013 for the sake of convenience and political expediency within their churches \u2013\nthe anti-deliverance doctrine.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\ntook them to task over their arrogant expediency, and quoted to them from\nJeremiah\u2019s lament and prophecy:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jeremiah 8:11-12:<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span><\/i><\/b>\u201cFor\nthey have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace,\npeace; when there is no peace.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they\nwere not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall\namong them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down,\nsaith the LORD.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nrebuked these pastors for telling their folks that they were free when many of\nthem were still being tormented.\u00a0 <\/span>They\nwere saying to the people, \u201cIt\u2019s just your flesh.\u00a0 <\/span>You need to discipline your flesh and bring\nit under subjection.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So\nwhat\u2019s wrong with an answer like that?\u00a0\n<\/span>Nothing.\u00a0 <\/span>Except that it doesn\u2019t\ngo far enough.\u00a0 <\/span>It stops short.\u00a0 <\/span>You cannot bring unclean spirits under\nsubjection.\u00a0 <\/span>You don\u2019t discipline evil\nspirits.\u00a0 <\/span>You kick them out!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nthe months that followed, three of those men fell \u201camong them that fall\u201d \u2013 they\nfell into sin themselves.\u00a0 <\/span>All three were\nremoved from their places of ministry.\u00a0\n<\/span>One was indicted by a federal grand jury and wound up in prison.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Of\nthe remaining pastors, one began to suffer ill health and turned his senior\npastorate over to his son \u2013 who also happened to be among that group of\npastors.\u00a0 <\/span>The son, when he took over the\npastorate, later called me and acknowledged that they had been wrong.\u00a0 <\/span>He asked me out to lunch, and made it clear\nthat I would be welcome to come and share and teach in their church any time.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Another\nof the pastors present that day at the luncheon began to repent of his\nanti-deliverance stance when the fall began for the three who were later\nremoved from their ministries.\u00a0 <\/span>I was\npleased to sit in his church one Sunday and hear him openly repent for having\ntaught error.\u00a0 <\/span>He began to call people to\nacknowledge their need for deliverance and respond to the authority available\nin Christ Jesus.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nsixth man in that group was stricken with Parkinson\u2019s Disease.\u00a0 <\/span>Although he acknowledged to me privately that\nhe knew I had spoken the truth, he refused to acknowledge it publicly and died\ntwo years later.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a real loss to\nme because he had been a dear friend and brother in the Lord whose ministry I\nhad otherwise greatly appreciated.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nother pastors moved on, and I never heard how their ministries prospered or\nfailed.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a graphic picture I\u2019ve\nnever forgotten.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis something that the Lord Jesus Christ takes very seriously.\u00a0 <\/span>You cannot pretend that folks are free, tell\nthem they are free, and withhold the deliverance from them or the understanding\nthat deliverance is necessary to deal with certain issues in their spiritual\nlives, and not suffer the consequences.\u00a0\n<\/span>The responsibilities that accompany spiritual leadership are great.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\npaid the complete price for our freedom on the Cross.\u00a0 <\/span>He took back the authority that had been\ngiven Satan and made it available to all believers.\u00a0 <\/span>Everything that Satan stole from us \u2013\neverything! \u2013 was now available to those who would seize it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nput it like this.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 11:12<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\u201cAnd from the\ndays of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth<\/span>\nviolence and the violent take it by force.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nan individual is called by the Lord, anointed for leadership, and equipped by\nthe Holy Spirit to teach and to lead folks into a relationship with Jesus\nChrist, and then that individual knowingly avoids teaching and sharing truths\nthat will set folks free from bondage, he or she effectively leaves Jesus hanging\non the Cross instead of presenting Him as the resurrected and risen Christ who\nhas taken the final authority over death and all that Satan seeks to do to\nretain his control of the human race.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wheww!\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>That was a mouthful!\u00a0 <\/span>Let me put it another way.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\u2019\ndeath and resurrection proved that there is no enemy man cannot subdue when\nthat subduing takes place utilizing the power and authority He has given.\u00a0 <\/span>To cheat folks out of that authority is\nunconscionable.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nof the worst fables being taught by those who seek to make Salvation a\nonce-and-for-all event, presupposing that once a person is a Christian, it is\nimpossible for Satan to afflict them, is the idea that evil or unclean spirits\ncannot remain in the presence of the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nflies in the face of Job, Chapter 1, where Satan presents himself before the\nLord and God asks him if he has considered his righteous servant, Job.\u00a0 <\/span>It becomes an event in which Satan repeatedly\ntests Job and returns to stand before God to continue his arguments, \u201cYeah, but\nif you do this, Job will turn on you\u2026\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nfor a moment, each and every event where Jesus ministered deliverance.\u00a0 <\/span>The individuals who were under the influence\nand\/or being afflicted by the evil spirits did not flee from His presence.\u00a0 <\/span>Not one of the evil spirits fled from the\nindividuals until they were ordered to do so by the Lord, and in a couple of\ncases we have examples of them arguing with Him over having to depart.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\neach case Jesus held firm.\u00a0 <\/span>The unclean\nspirits recognized His authority over them and finally departed at His command.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But\nthey didn\u2019t leave until they were commanded to<\/u>.\u00a0 <\/span>There is not one single case of an evil\nspirit leaving as soon as Jesus was present.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nmakes a nice, religious doctrine for folks to believe that once they have\nChrist in their lives, no unclean spirit can remain, but there isn\u2019t one shred\nof evidence in Scripture to support such a doctrine.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nis truth is that individuals who allow these spirits to remain in their lives\nafter they have accepted Jesus Christ and made Him the Lord of their lives will\nsuffer raging spiritual battles in their lives.\u00a0\n<\/span>Sadly, too many Christians seem to be unaware of the fact that He has\ngiven them the authority to deal with the situation.\u00a0 <\/span>They do not have to remain in the midst of\nthese struggles.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

History\nis replete with the stories of some of the most influential Christians, saints\nof God and profound leaders in the body of Christ who have lived their lives\nwith certain aspects of their character under the torment of evil spirits.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Martin\nLuther, one of the most incredible leaders of the Reformation, and a man\nresponsible for beginning the process of leading Christians out of the Dark\nAges, was tormented by a spirit of racism.\u00a0\n<\/span>It hounded him to the day of his death, and he never recognized that\nChrist had given him the authority to be free of his hatred of the Jews.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John\nBunyan, who wrote one of the all-time classics of Christian literature, The\nPilgrim\u2019s Progress, was tormented by a spirit that drove him to demand\neverything at half price.\u00a0 <\/span>You may laugh\nat that and think it is something of little consequence, but he was never free\nto the day of his death.\u00a0 <\/span>Because of his\ncontinuous demands on people to sell him whatever he wanted at half-price, his\ntestimony was compromised, and people had difficulty seeing the Grace of the\nLord Jesus Christ in him.\u00a0 <\/span>Was he a\nChristian at the time of his death?\u00a0\n<\/span>Certainly.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Just\nbecause folks are tormented and do battle in certain areas of their lives with\nunclean and evil spirits does not in any way alter the fact that they have\ncommitted their lives to Christ and seek to walk with Him in a\nlove-relationship.\u00a0 <\/span>It simply means they\nhave not taken advantage of the authority available in Christ Jesus to kick out\nthe tormentors.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nwas the prophet Hosea that prophesied the following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hosea 4:6:<\/span><\/u><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>\u201cMy\npeople are destroyed for lack of knowledge.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis where we have to leave it for today.\u00a0\n<\/span>We have lots of territory to cover in this series, and we will spend a\nnumber of weeks getting through all of it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
