Deliver Us From Evil, Part 2<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

My first exposure to Derek\u2019s Prince\u2019s ministry on Deliverance\nwas revelatory, to say the least.\u00a0 <\/span>As he\nwas teaching, he mentioned having to deal with a person who was afflicted with\nan \u201caccident-prone spirit.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Just like that, something leaped inside of me, and I knew that\nan enemy that had tormented me for most of my life had been exposed.\u00a0 <\/span>Insurance companies have a category that they\nlabel as \u201cAccident Prone.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>It is the\nresult of folks having multiple accidents over a period of years, and a pattern\nthat continues on and on and on.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

That was a perfect description of me.\u00a0 <\/span>At that point in my life, I could easily\nremember not less than 30 auto accidents that I had been involved in.\u00a0 <\/span>Derek Prince\u2019s description of that spirit lit\na fire inside of me.\u00a0 <\/span>I took immediate\nsteps to cast out an Accident Prone Spirit.\u00a0\n<\/span>I had not yet reached my 30th<\/sup> birthday.\u00a0 <\/span>Nevertheless, as I approach my 77th<\/sup>\nbirthday next month, I can say that the pattern of accidents ceased from that\nday forward.\u00a0 <\/span>There have been no\naccidents ever since.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

That was only the beginning of my adventures in being set free\nmyself from the torment of evil spirits, and it has led to well over 40 years\nof being able to minister the same kind of freedom to others.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

We\nwrapped up last week with a quote from Hosea\u2019s prophecy.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hosea 4:6:<\/span><\/u><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>\u201cMy\npeople are destroyed for lack of knowledge.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nthe knowledge of how to be free has been provided and folks fail to avail\nthemselves of it, either through ignorance or willfully because of a religious\ndoctrine that teaches otherwise, they suffer unnecessarily; and there are folks\nwho go to their graves who have given their lives to the Lord that never walk\nin the liberty Jesus Christ provides \u2013 in this lifetime!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Freedom\nisn\u2019t a when-we-all-get-to-heaven goal or objective.\u00a0 <\/span>It is a here-and-now reality available to\neveryone who seizes it and takes it by force from an enemy who seeks to cheat\nthem.\u00a0 <\/span>And it is available to the newborn\nChristian.\u00a0 <\/span>It is available to the\nseasoned Christian.\u00a0 <\/span>It is available to\nthe weakest Christian.\u00a0 <\/span>It is available\nto all who will avail themselves of the power and authority Jesus Christ\nprovides.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

No\ndemon or evil spirit can prevent a Christian from seizing his or her freedom\nand kicking it out when they appropriate the name, the authority, the power of\nJesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By\nthe same token, no wicked spirit will leave of his own accord just because\nJesus is there in a person\u2019s life.\u00a0 <\/span>That\nspirit must be commanded to leave, and once gone, the person now freed must\ncontinue to resist Satan.\u00a0 <\/span>There is\nnothing automatic about it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis war, folks!\u00a0 <\/span>Spiritual warfare!\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus is after a people who are\novercomers.\u00a0 <\/span>One does not get classified\n\u201can overcomer\u201d if he or she does not overcome the world, the flesh and Satan,\njust as Jesus overcame.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wow!\u00a0 <\/span>I didn\u2019t mean to get preachy today.\u00a0 <\/span>Just got started sharing things, and the\n\u201cpreach\u201d kind of took off.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nisn\u2019t my purpose to fight with folks over doctrines.\u00a0 <\/span>You can hold any doctrine you want to hold \u2013\nas long as that doctrine has life and reality in it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\nyour doctrine(s) keeps you in a place where you lack real peace in your life, I\nsuggest you begin to take another looksee at where that doctrine comes from,\nand what Jesus actually said and did, and what He is saying to you.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme take a minute to add one more piece to the foundational understanding of the\nnature of deliverance.\u00a0 <\/span>Consider\nsomething that Jesus said in what we refer to as \u201cThe Sermon on the Mount,\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 5:14-15<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Ye are the\nlight of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>Neither do men light\na candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light\nunto all that are in the house.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\nuses two metaphors here to help us understand something that gets glossed over\nwhen we read this.\u00a0 <\/span>He compares the human\nframe to a house, and to a city.\u00a0 <\/span>Ever\nstop to consider why He would use those illustrations?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK.\u00a0 <\/span>Tell me something.\u00a0 <\/span>What common characteristic is there between a\nhouse and a city?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Easy!\u00a0 <\/span>They represent multiple areas of\ndwelling.\u00a0 <\/span>A house has multiple\nrooms.\u00a0 <\/span>A city has multiple homes.\u00a0 <\/span>Each represents an area of living.\u00a0 <\/span>Do you occupy the same room in your house all\nthe time, and never go into the other rooms?\u00a0\n<\/span>Of course not!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\ncity has multiple dwelling places with multiple rooms \u2014 each capable of hosting\na person or persons.\u00a0 <\/span>The same is true of\nour lives.\u00a0 <\/span>We have many areas of living,\nthinking, dwelling, etc., in our lives.\u00a0\n<\/span>Evil spirits tend to camouflage their existence in us as one or more of\nthese rooms or dwelling places.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthe example of Jesus ministering to the man of Gadara \u2014 we refer to him as the\nGadarene demoniac \u2014who comes and throws himself at Jesus\u2019 feet.\u00a0 <\/span>Consider the following narrative from Mark\u2019s\nGospel.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Mark 5:6-9<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>But\nwhen he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>And (the evil spirit)\ncried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou<\/i>\nSon of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou<\/i> unclean\nspirit. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>And\nhe asked him, What is<\/i> thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is<\/i>\nLegion: for we are many.\u00a0 <\/span>(with my\nadditions)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Got\nthe picture?\u00a0 <\/span>If you use this picture as\nliteral \u2014 and I see no reason not to \u2014 a legion consisted of 6,600 foot\nsoldiers and 172 horse-drawn chariots with expert bowmen and spear throwers.\u00a0 <\/span>Sounds fantastic doesn\u2019t it?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Here\nis a man tormented day and night.\u00a0 <\/span>He\ncannot keep clothing on.\u00a0 <\/span>He lives in\ncaves and among the rocks, avoiding people as much as he can.\u00a0 <\/span>With this multitude of demons dwelling in\nhim, he still has presence of mind enough when Jesus appears on the scene to\nthrow himself at Jesus\u2019 feet and worship Him!\u00a0\n<\/span>Fantastic!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nnow speaks to the evil spirit (head-demon, if you please) and says, <\/span>What\nis your name<\/span>?\u00a0 <\/span>The demon speaks and says, <\/span>My\nname is legion, for we are many<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>Right!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nwhole episode makes the doctrine of demon possession fly out the window.\u00a0 <\/span>In spite of his torment, the man still had\nenough in him to throw himself at Jesus\u2019 feet and worship Him.\u00a0 <\/span>Those demons didn\u2019t own him \u2014 they just dwelled\nwithin him and tormented him.\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s how\nit is today.\u00a0 <\/span>We want to quickly jump on\nthe bandwagon when we see someone whose behavior is totally without reason or\nrationale and accuse them of being demon-possessed.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

No,\nthey aren\u2019t!\u00a0 <\/span>They just need\ndeliverance.\u00a0 <\/span>When we use the mantra of\n\u201cpossession,\u201d we draw the analogy of ownership, believing that these people are\nwithout hope, and beyond the delivering power of Jesus\u2019 <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b> at work in us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Bahh!\u00a0 <\/span>Humbug!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nis time \u2014 especially in these days of division, strife and absolutely rampant,\nillogical behavior staring us in the face \u2014 that we begin to exercise the\nauthority and power that Jesus has made available to us through His death and\nresurrection.\u00a0 <\/span>It is time to stop being\nafraid of demons and walk in Christ Jesus!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nthe coming days, I will share with you some of the experiences I\u2019ve had with\nfolks (and they would fill many books if I recounted them all) throughout the\nyears who have been set free.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nmade a statement that puts everything in context.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 8:31-36<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Then said Jesus to\nthose Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then<\/i> are ye\nmy disciples indeed; <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>And\nye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>They answered him, We\nbe Abraham\u2019s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye\nshall be made free?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever\ncommitteth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house\nfor ever: but<\/i> the Son abideth ever. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>If the Son therefore\nshall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>I know that ye are\nAbraham\u2019s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do\nyou see the prerequisite to being \u201cfree indeed?\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>If ye continue in my\nword, then<\/i> are ye my disciples indeed!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It is\nimpossible to KNOW the Truth and genuinely be free IF we do not continue in the\nWord of the Lord \u2014 and that means without compromise, without twisting the\nscriptures to mean what you want them to mean, without trying to get around\nwhat Jesus is saying, but being obedient in every respect and utilizing the\nreal authority that He has made available!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nis free \u201cindeed!\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Not free because you\nthink you are free; not free because your pastor says you are free; not free\nbecause I say you are free; not free because you have a doctrine that says you\nare free; but free in reality, free experientially, free indeed!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nbegin today with religion.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve already\ntalked in past discussions about the three families of fear, the Fear of Evil\nbeing the dominant granddaddy of all fears, and the fact that it is the root of\nall that is religious.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By\nway of refreshing, the Fear of Evil came into the human race when Adam ate of\nthe Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.\u00a0\n<\/span>The knowledge of Evil brings the Fear of Evil.\u00a0 <\/span>It manifested when Adam ran and hid from God\nwhen he heard the sound of the Lord approaching in the Garden.\u00a0 <\/span>When you stop to consider that on its face,\nnothing could have been more illogical!\u00a0\n<\/span>Adam and Eve had walked and talked with the Lord for at least a couple\nof thousand years.\u00a0 <\/span>He had been their\nfriend, their confidant, the source of all that they had and lived.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

How\nwas it, then, that they could suddenly be afraid of Him, as though He was going\nto bring down a sledgehammer on them?\u00a0\n<\/span>All they needed to do was to acknowledge that they had sinned.\u00a0 <\/span>They messed up.\u00a0 <\/span>Adam could have reversed Eve\u2019s actions\nbecause of who he was, but he didn\u2019t.\u00a0\n<\/span>OK.\u00a0 <\/span>Enough!\u00a0 <\/span>We don\u2019t need to continue to expand on this.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Anyway,\nthe dominant characteristic of the Fear of Evil is to make people afraid of God\nso that they begin to try to compensate for their failures utilizing their own\nunderstanding.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

THAT,\nfolks, is the true definition of all religion.\u00a0\n<\/span>Religion attempts to please God on human terms, adjusting the Word or\nmanipulating it so as to pacify their own feelings of guilt.\u00a0 <\/span>They compensate by then creating actions,\ndoctrines or behaviors they hope to appease God with so that He will overlook\ntheir guilt.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

My\nfirst exposure to really understanding this came when I was ministering to a\ngroup of people in an unnamed church in southern California.\u00a0 <\/span>There was this one lady in particular who\nheard the Word, knew that she was in bondage, but had no clue what was\ntormenting her.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nwas early in my realm of ministry of deliverance, and I had yet to understand\nthe core of religion.\u00a0 <\/span>I had no\nrevelation of what this lady was dealing with.\u00a0\n<\/span>I knew that Jesus had asked the question of the Gadarene demoniac, \u201cWhat\nis your name?\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>That seemed to be the\napproach I needed to take, so with the lady sitting in a chair in front of me,\nI said, \u201cWhat is your name?\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

To\nmy astonishment, a man\u2019s voice growled out of her, \u201cMy name is Church of\nChrist.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nwas no small revelation.\u00a0 <\/span>What I realized\nwas that an evil spirit had taken up the doctrines of the Church of Christ,\nblinded the lady to any truth that didn\u2019t fit the doctrines of this particular\ndenomination, and then tormented her every time she saw or heard something that\ndidn\u2019t jive with those doctrines.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nspoke to that religious spirt and commanded it to leave the woman.\u00a0 <\/span>Immediately she was set free.\u00a0 <\/span>Her countenance changed.\u00a0 <\/span>She brightened up.\u00a0 <\/span>In the weeks that followed, I heard that\neverything about her life changed as she began to walk in the freedom that is\nin Christ Jesus.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nwas a few years later that I was sitting at LAX, waiting for a flight.\u00a0 <\/span>A voice spoke up behind me.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cRegner, is that you?\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nturned to see who was speaking, and it happened to be a man I\u2019d come to know\nsome years before.\u00a0 <\/span>He was now the\nDirector of Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in Hawaii.\u00a0 <\/span>He said, \u201cDo you have a few minutes to\ntalk?\u00a0 <\/span>I need to share something with you\nthat I don\u2019t know what to think about.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nnodded, and he sat down beside me.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cI\nhad the strangest experience the other day.\u00a0\n<\/span>I know that the Lord has been moving you in the realm of deliverance,\nbut this is something I\u2019ve never encountered before.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nwas intrigued.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cGo ahead, my brother.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cThis\nman was engaged in constant warfare in himself.\u00a0\n<\/span>He just wasn\u2019t getting the breakthroughs he needed in order to be free\nof the struggles.\u00a0 <\/span>I didn\u2019t know what\nelse to do, so I spoke to the evil spirit that obviously was tormenting him and\nsaid, \u201c\u2019What is your name.\u2019\u00a0 <\/span>A different\nvoice spoke out of him and said, \u2018My name is Assembly of God.\u00a0 <\/span>Can there be such a thing or is this my own\ncrazy imagination?\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

My\nanswer to him was, \u201cYou\u2019re not crazy, and this is real!\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>I shared with him my experience.\u00a0 <\/span>He subsequently ministered to the young man\nwith the religious denominational spirit and saw the fruit of freedom in him in\nthe weeks and months that followed.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nknow that some of this may ruffle some folks\u2019 religious feathers, but if we are\nopen enough to recognize that the Enemy will use anything at all in our lives\nto keep us from growing up in Christ Jesus \u2013 including our involvement in\nchurch life \u2013 he will readily use it against us to blind us to the four walls\nof a denomination.\u00a0 <\/span>He doesn\u2019t want us to\nawaken to the fact that we\u2019ve only scratched the surface of the life that is\navailable!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
