\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Several years ago, I was prompted to do a study on witchcraft\nand discovered that there are a host of words and applications in Scripture\nthat spell out in great detail the nature and character of witchcraft and its\ntentacles.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

This is a study that I can\u2019t even begin to share in a week or\neven two weeks, so we will likely spend the next three weeks talking about\nit.\u00a0 <\/span>My objective is not to focus on\nsomething that is so dark and negative \u2014 even if I have to for a short time \u2014\nbut rather to open up your understanding to the invasiveness of these spirits\n(and there are many!) to help you understand what we are battling in these\ntransitional days before the thousand year reign begins.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

It is critically important that Christians see clearly how the\nEnemy operates in this realm so that they are not fooled by his deceptions and\nmanipulations.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

During\nthe next few weeks or so, I\u2019d like to take you into a discussion of something\nthat has been a real problem in the body of Christ, something that has led many\nmen and women astray for century after century after century: witchcraft, or as\nit generally applies to men, sorcery.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\ngenerally think of a witch as an old hag of a woman who casts spells, does\nincantations, and performs magic tricks.\u00a0\n<\/span>A sorcerer is regarded as a man who essentially does the same thing, but\nhas even more evil power than a witch.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

These\nare impressions that go back as far as the first-century BC Roman poet, Horace,\nwho described witches as hags who invoked spirits of the \u201cunderworld.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Second-century AD Roman philosopher, Lucius\nApuleius, refers to sorcerers as those \u201cforcing compliance with their wishes or\ncommands\u201d through the invoking of spells, incantations, or placing of certain\nanimal objects or images in or outside their homes in order to achieve certain\nresults.\u00a0 <\/span>Apuleius refers to sorcerers\n\u201cnailing images of owls to the entrances of homes in order to ward off storms.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

These\nare the more traditional concepts of witchcraft or sorcery, and of course most\nfolks are aware of witchcraft as it is practiced in our society today under the\nguise of the so-called \u201cwhite witches\u201d or wiccans, astrologers, palm-readers,\ntarot card readers, necromancers and \u201cspiritualists\u201d or mediums.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nneed to all be on the same page, however, as to the purpose and objective of\nALL witchcraft, sorcery and so-called \u201cmagic.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take\na quick look at God\u2019s command to Israel.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Deuteronomy 18:10-12, Amp. Bible<\/span><\/u><\/b>: \u201c<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>There shall not be\nfound among you any one who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire, or\nwho uses divination (or astrology), or is a soothsayer, or an augur, or a\nsorcerer, or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cFor all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord; and\nit is because of these abominable practices that the Lord your God is driving\nthem out from before you.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cYou shall be blameless (and absolutely true) to the Lord your\nGod.\u00a0 <\/span>For these nations, whom you shall\ndispossess, listen to soothsayers and diviners, but as for you, the Lord your\nGod has not allowed you to do so.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Brother!\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord was STRONG on this subject!\u00a0 <\/span>There was no compromise whatever!<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nare two issues here that I would like to address \u2013 and they are the two primary\nreasons why I believe that God is so adamant on witchcraft, sorcery, etc.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nfirst issue is based on the very first of the Ten Commandments, <\/span>\u201cThou\nshalt have no other gods before me.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nrich young ruler summarized this commandment when talking to Jesus, and all of\nthe rest of them this way:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Luke 10:27<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\u201cThou shalt love the\nLord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy\nstrength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Got\nthe picture?\u00a0 <\/span>The reason one doesn\u2019t have\nany other gods beside the Lord God Jehovah is because one is faithful to Him\nfrom a complete and total love for Him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nissue that governs all witchcraft, sorcery, astrology, augury, necromancy,\nwizardry, or divination of any kind is the search for answers to all of life\u2019s\nneeds or problems FROM SOME OTHER SOURCE THAN GOD!!!<\/o:p><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\ncannot engage in witchcraft without seeking for answers from something other\nthan God\u2019s Word.\u00a0 <\/span>One cannot engage in\nsorcery without attempting to place someone under YOUR control, thereby\nsupplanting God as THE authority.\u00a0 <\/span>One\ncannot engage in astrology without attempting to divine one\u2019s future (and\nthereby protect oneself from some unknown evil) by taking guidance from the\nstars instead of the Word of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\ncan\u2019t even begin to count the number of Christians I\u2019ve run into throughout the\nyears who think nothing of reading their daily horoscope, (they think it\u2019s\nharmless fun!) and making judgments and decisions concerning their daily\naffairs accordingly.\u00a0 <\/span>Then they wonder why\ntheir lives are in such confusion, why nothing works right, why they can\u2019t get\nanswers from the Lord when they pray, why they are weak and sickly, why they\nlive in perpetual need, and on and on and on.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Astrology\nisn\u2019t some harmless pursuit!\u00a0 <\/span>It is\ntaking your direction from demons who\u2019ve deceived you into thinking they can\nsafely govern your lives through the position and orbits of the stars and\nplanets.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Talk\nabout insanity!\u00a0 <\/span>Demons didn\u2019t create the\nUniverse.\u00a0 <\/span>Demons had nothing to do with\nCreation.\u00a0 <\/span>Creation comes from God!\u00a0 <\/span>What kind of irrational stupidity is it to\ntake the governance of your life from the position of stars or planets when the\nCreator of those stars and planets wants to give you governance Himself through\na personal love-relationship with you?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis no love in astrology.\u00a0 <\/span>There is no\nlove in witchcraft.\u00a0 <\/span>There is no love in\nsorcery.\u00a0 <\/span>There is no love in\nenchantments.\u00a0 <\/span>There is no love in\nnecromancy or using mediums.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis no love in divination.\u00a0 <\/span>There is no\nlove in soothsaying or charming or augury.\u00a0\n<\/span>ALL OF IT is rooted in fear!\u00a0 <\/span>All\nof it is rooted in the rejection of the Word of God.\u00a0 <\/span>All of it is rooted in the rejection of Jesus\nChrist!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\ncan\u2019t have direction from the Lord Jesus Christ AND astrology.\u00a0 <\/span>It doesn\u2019t work that way.\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord doesn\u2019t guide people\u2019s lives and\nunfold His Love, Mercy and Grace through astrology!\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus does not provide a future for you with\nHim through enchantments, or witchcraft, or sorcery.\u00a0 <\/span>He does it through a personal\nlove-relationship between Him and you!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do\nyou realize that it is nothing short of adultery for you to claim you have a\nrelationship with the Lord Jesus Christ \u2013 that you are betrothed to Him \u2013 while\nat the same time going to a tarot card reader, a medium, or an astrologer?\u00a0 <\/span>They don\u2019t take governance in their lives from\nJesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>What makes you think the\ncounsel and direction they give you is going to be anything that comes from the\nWill of God in your life?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nsecond issue that governs all witchcraft, sorcery, enchantments, speaking with\nthe dead (using mediums) (we know this a necromancy) or augury (the use of\npsychic power) is FEAR!\u00a0 <\/span>The Fear of Evil\nis the principal driving force, but all spirits of fear are at work in the\ndemonic so-called supernatural (I prefer to call it \u201csub-natural\u201d).<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Well,\nI can see that I\u2019m not going to even begin to scratch the surface with these\ntopics today.\u00a0 <\/span>I want to take you into\nall of the Greek and Hebrew words that are used throughout Scripture that get\ntranslated witchcraft, sorcery, enchantment), charming, etc.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\u2019ll\nshock you!\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019ll be astounded at some\nof the commonly accepted practices in the body of Christ today that are\nabsolutely rooted in witchcraft and sorcery.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Enchantment,\nfor example.\u00a0 <\/span>(And we\u2019ll get into this in\nmore depth after a bit.)\u00a0 <\/span>You have words\nthat are translated as \u201cenchantment\u201d \u2013 both in Hebrew and in Greek \u2013 that\nliterally mean, \u201cto enchant with drugs,\u201d or \u201cto enchant with music.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Most\nfolks think of enchantment as the product of \u201cspells\u201d cast by speaking certain\nwords over a person.\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s partially\ntrue, but only partially.\u00a0 <\/span>The broad\nconcept of enchantment is to cause a person to make decisions or to alter\npreviously made decisions, using an outside controlling substance or emotional\nforce, thereby controlling or specifying an outcome or result in their life.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme give you some examples.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019ve\nshared with you in times past some of my experiences when I was teaching\nclasses in broadcasting and dealt with the topic of subliminal programming.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I had\none class in particular take apart some of the popular music of the day \u2014 some\nof the recordings of the Beatles, for example \u2014 in which messages which seemed\nharmless in and of themselves.\u00a0\n<\/span>Nevertheless, the purpose of those messages was to get people to spend\nmoney on the Beatles recordings, thus hyping them and their sales so that they\nwere selling incredible amounts to people who might have otherwise not crossed\nthe street to buy them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nthere were the AC\/DC recordings with backward masked messages invoking the\nworship of Satan and leading the people who purchased those recordings into a\ndark, demonic realm.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Back\nin the early 1980\u2019s, a certain mother came to me because her son was beginning\nto display violent characteristics, at times exploding into a rage without\nwarning.\u00a0 <\/span>She told me that this behavior\nwas totally at odds with his normal character.\u00a0\n<\/span>She couldn\u2019t understand what was happening to him.\u00a0 <\/span>I asked her to show me the records he was\nlistening to.\u00a0 <\/span>He had been listening to\nBlack Sabbath, AC\/DC, Prince and a host of other like recordings.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nspoke with her son about what he was listening to and he wasn\u2019t about to hear\nwhat I had to say.\u00a0 <\/span>Because of his age,\nand the fact that he was under his parents\u2019 subjection, I recommended that they\nbring those recording to me and allow me to burn them in our furnace.\u00a0 <\/span>At an appropriate moment when their son was\nnot home, they did so.\u00a0 <\/span>I went downstairs\nto the basement and opened up the furnace, throwing all of the recordings into\nthe fire.\u00a0 <\/span>When I closed the furnace\ndoor, the Spirit of Death emerged visibly from the furnace and followed me up\nthe stairs.\u00a0 <\/span>It sent cold chills down my\nspine.\u00a0 <\/span>I rebuked that spirit and\ncommanded it to get out of our house and stay out!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Sharing\nwith the boy\u2019s parents a bit later, they assured me that they would watch their\nson\u2019s record purchases more closely from the day forward.\u00a0 <\/span>By the same token, his behavior changed, and\nthey later told me that he was once again the normal, rational, well-behaved\nson they were used to.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

These\nare examples of cases where the individuals were being \u201cenchanted\u201d by the music\nthey were listening to.\u00a0 <\/span>The programmers\nand recording engineers had a deliberate agenda in mind when they programmed\nthese recordings.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\ntake this another step.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nmusic in the body of Christ, while improving, has often been a case of very\nsubtle enchantment.\u00a0 <\/span>Now don\u2019t go\nthrowing rocks at me before I explain!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Believers\nhave been lulled to sleep spiritually with some of the music that has become a\nstaple of Sunday morning services throughout the years.\u00a0 <\/span>Much of it has been what I like to refer to\nas \u201cfeel good\u201d music while it lacks in any specific direction towards the\nLord.\u00a0 <\/span>You KNOW that I\u2019m going to\naccentuate this because of the calling to real praise and worship, and the\nreason for that is that we are not supposed to be gathering to feel good, to\nlisten to preaching, etc., but rather to minister to the Lord.\u00a0 <\/span>There\u2019s nothing wrong with testimony\nsongs.\u00a0 <\/span>There\u2019s nothing wrong with singing\nsongs that are instructional and invoke the Word of God.\u00a0 <\/span>Our music just cannot consist of messages\nwhich do not offer to the Lord directly, real praise and real worship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK,\nI\u2019ll get off this rabbit trail and back on topic!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nare seven specific words that occur in Hebrew or Greek to define the various\ncharacteristics under which we categorize \u201cwitchcraft.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>We won\u2019t get into all of them today, but\nlet\u2019s begin with the first.\u00a0 <\/span>This is a\nword we all easily recognize, and it perhaps the most easily recognizable in\ntoday\u2019s culture.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This first definition<\/span><\/b> comes from the NT Greek where the primary\nword used throughout the New Testament for witchcraft is <\/span>pharmakeia<\/span><\/i><\/b>.\u00a0 <\/span>It translates literally to: to enchant (or\ncast spells) using medication, drugs or potions<\/u>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Drawn\nfrom <\/span>pharmakeus<\/span><\/i><\/b>, which comes from <\/span>pharmakon<\/span><\/i><\/b>, it draws a\npicture of using drugs and medications to poison a person without killing them\n(at least immediately) for the purpose of putting them in a kind of hypnotic\nstate where they become susceptible to the seductions of demons.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Before\nwe get too far along, I know that the word conjures up visions of pharmacists \u2013\nand it is the word that \u201cpharmacist\u201d comes from.\u00a0 <\/span>Let me say that I\u2019m not suggesting that\npharmacists are sorcerers who practice witchcraft \u2013 not all of them, anyway.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

(Hehehehehehe\u2026\u2026\u2026.)\u00a0 <\/span>I have very close friends \u2013 committed\nChristians \u2013 who have been in the pharmaceutical world for many years, and they\nare anything but sorcerers.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nsaid, there is much of the medical industry today that people overly rely on\nthat falls into the category of sorcery.\u00a0\n<\/span>This is a personal opinion so take it for what it\u2019s worth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Next\nweek, I will give you an illustration of an application.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
