\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

In our last study on this topic, we began doing a breakdown and\npursuit of understanding the various words that are translated in the Old and\nNew Testaments \u2014 Hebrew and Greek \u2014 that are either translated \u201cwitchcraft\u201d or\n\u201csorcery\u201d or one of the variants that are part of the whole genre of witchcraft\nin general.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

We wrapped up taking a look at the word <\/span><\/b>pharmakeia,\n<\/span><\/i><\/b>which is one of the primary words translated witchcraft in the\nNew Testament, and specifically translates as: \u201cto enchant with drugs.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>I want to move on today with another one of\nthese 64-dollar words from the Greek that are part and parcel of witchcraft or\nsorcery.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Witchcraft.\u00a0 <\/span>Manipulation.\u00a0\n<\/span>Control.\u00a0 <\/span>The control of our\nthoughts and subsequent behavior by lies repeated again and again and again and\nagain and again and again and again and again, ad nauseam.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s easier to believe the lies than it is to\nbelieve God\u2019s Word!\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve heard those\nsame lies propagated from the pulpits of churches for centuries.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Preachers\nand ministers of the Gospel have been permeated with the same witchcraft our\nsociety has been filled with, and because they haven\u2019t had a deep,\ninterpersonal, one-on-one love relationship with Jesus Christ, the Truth of His\nWord and His promises have gotten lost in the shuffle; and they\u2019ve simply\nrepeated the same old drivel coming out of Mammon, the Beast.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Most\nChristians have been deceived into taking the Mark of the Beast, and are\ncompletely oblivious to it.\u00a0 <\/span>They live\nand operate by and through the world system, by a system that controls their\nbehavior, their lives, their finances \u2013 their thinking!\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s witchcraft, folks!\u00a0 <\/span>Pure and simple.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wow!\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve hardly scratched the surface.\u00a0 <\/span>Looks like we\u2019re going to be on this topic\nfor awhile.\u00a0 <\/span>There are a lot of words in\nGreek and Hebrew that translate out to witchcraft, sorcery, enchantment,\netc.\u00a0 <\/span>Every one of them has its own\nspecial significance.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\ngotten started on this topic of Witchcraft, Sorcery and Fear over the past few\nweeks, and I want to continue today with a look at a word that occurs in\nreference to witchcraft and idolatry in the New Testament Greek.\u00a0 <\/span>I was going to take a different track today,\nbut felt to deal with this word before we go any further because of the way this\nform of witchcraft or sorcery has taken hold in the body of Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nword, <\/span>eidololatreia<\/span><\/i><\/b>, is generally translated \u201cidolatry,\u201d in\nthe New Testament.\u00a0 <\/span>It occurs in its\nvarious forms 33 times in the Greek text.\u00a0\n<\/span>By itself, it translates literally to: wholly given over to idols; the\nintense worship of idols; the service of idols.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nof its combination words is: <\/span>latreia<\/span><\/i><\/b>, which generally\ntranslates to \u201cservice.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>The context of\nthis kind of \u201cservice\u201d is what I want to get at.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 16: 2-3<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>\u201cThey\nshall put<\/span> <\/span><\/sup>you out of the synagogues: yea, the time<\/span>\n<\/span><\/sup>cometh, that whosoever killeth<\/span><\/span>\n<\/span><\/sup>you will think that he doeth God service<\/u>.\u00a0 <\/span>And these<\/span> <\/span><\/sup>things\nwill they do unto you, because<\/span> <\/span><\/sup>they\nhave not known the Father, nor me.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nGreek word, <\/span>latreia<\/span><\/i><\/b>, has a companion word, <\/span>leitourgeo<\/span><\/i><\/b>, which provides us\nwith the context.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Leitourgeo\n<\/span><\/i><\/b>is\nthe verb (or adverb) form, and its noun form is <\/span>leitourgia<\/span><\/i><\/b>.\u00a0 <\/span>Thus, <\/span>leitourgeo<\/span><\/i><\/b> is the \u201cdoing,\u201d\nand <\/span>leitourgia<\/span><\/i><\/b> is the \u201cdoer.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>On the surface, these words sound absolutely\nwonderful.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Leitourgeo<\/span><\/i><\/b> translates out: to\nperform a public function<\/u>; to perform religious or charitable functions<\/u>;\nto minister to a need<\/u>, to relieve or serve<\/u>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Sounds\ngood, right?\u00a0 <\/span>We often see our\nrepresentatives in government in this context, and it can be a proper\napplication to use that word this way.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Here\u2019s\nthe problem.\u00a0 <\/span>The word, <\/span>leitourgeo<\/span><\/i><\/b> is derived from <\/span>leitourgos<\/span><\/i><\/b>: a functionary in\nthe temple; more generally, it is applied to a worshiper and one who is a\nbenefactor.\u00a0 <\/span>See the catch?\u00a0 <\/span>Benefactor?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nword derives from the picture of one who has both ability and resources meeting\nthe needs of one who is needy.\u00a0 <\/span>The\nbenefactor is the superior individual, whereas the \u201cneedy\u201d individual is\ninferior \u2013 at least at that moment in time.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis nothing wrong with being a benefactor in our society today.\u00a0 <\/span>There is a sense of good, a sense of\naccomplishment, a sense of well-being that goes with serving the needs of\npeople.\u00a0 <\/span>The problem comes when we retain\nthat place of being and standing in our efforts to serve God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Since\nwhen are we the benefactors of God?\u00a0\n<\/span>Since when is He needy and wanting?\u00a0\n<\/span>To come to Him in that sense is to come before God in utter arrogance\nand pride.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nhave an English word you no doubt easily recognize from these Greek words: liturgy.\u00a0 <\/span>We often make reference to the so-called\n\u201cliturgical churches\u201d and the fact that they have a spelled-out liturgy for\nthose who attend the church services.\u00a0\n<\/span>Liturgy, in today\u2019s usage, literally means: order of service.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Liturgy,\nmy friends, IS a form of witchcraft and idolatry.\u00a0 <\/span>We spell out \u2013 usually on paper, but not\nnecessarily \u2013 the songs we are going to sing, the time when we are going to\ntake up an offering, the time when we are going to have some testimonies (if\nindeed such a thing even happens during the service anymore), announcements,\nand the topic of the morning (or evening) sermon: i.e., the order of the\nservice, and [almost] the timing of things to a gnat\u2019s hair.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nstart at 10:00 AM (or 11:00 AM \u2013 or whatever time we so choose) promptly, and\nby 12:00 noon, folks are looking at their watches to make sure the preacher is\ngoing to let them out of church in time to take care of their roast in the\noven, or whatever.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nbasically say to the Lord, \u201cthis is what you get from us today, and that\u2019s\nit!\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nyourself fortunate that we\u2019ve done all of this for you.\u00a0 <\/span>You have need of our service, and we\u2019ve given\nit to you.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nis the attitude that makes the difference between liturgy and real\nworship.\u00a0 <\/span>It is the spirit that makes the\ndifference between whether we are engaging in sorcery, and attempting to\nmanipulate God into doing certain things for us or meet certain needs and\nwhether or not we are engaging in true praise and worship in a spirit of love.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Leitourgeo<\/span><\/i><\/b> \u2013 liturgy \u2013 when\napplied like this is nothing more and nothing less than witchcraft, sorcery,\nand idolatry.\u00a0 <\/span>It takes a humanistic\napproach, putting man in the driver\u2019s seat as the benefactor of God.\u00a0 <\/span>It takes away completely the freedom and\nliberty that exists in the Spirit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Worship\nis nonexistent.\u00a0 <\/span>Praise is\nnonexistent.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve gathered together to\nsing songs, have a good old time, listen to a (hopefully) inspirational and\nmotivational 20- or 30-minute message that makes us feel good and tickles our\ninsides, and then we head out the door to do our more important things.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve \u201cgiven\u201d God an hour or two of our time\n(if He\u2019s really fortunate), we\u2019ve done our duty to Him and now it\u2019s time for us\nto get on with our day and our week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wasn\u2019t\nthat really big of us?\u00a0 <\/span>Didn\u2019t we really\nbless God by our service (<\/span>latreia-leitourgeo<\/span><\/i><\/b>)?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Uhh\nHuhh!\u00a0 <\/span>Right!\u00a0 <\/span>Sure!\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Eidololatreia<\/span><\/i><\/b>: idolatry.\u00a0 <\/span>The trick here is that WE are the idols we\nare worshiping.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve become so\nimportant to ourselves and so preeminent that our needs and our lives take the\ngreater importance over our worship and true service of or waiting upon the\nLord Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve become number\nOne.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Get\nthis.\u00a0 <\/span>We are stupid enough and arrogant\nenough to think that we are doing God service.\u00a0\n<\/span>It stinks in the nostrils of God!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis a rather extraordinary example drawn for us in the picture of Saul.\u00a0 <\/span>In I Samuel 15, we have a picture of Saul\nbeing instructed by Samuel (as the prophet of God) to kill Agag, the king of\nthe Amalekites, to destroy every last man, woman and child, sheep and oxen and\nbeast of burden and to wait for him following the battle to offer up a burnt\noffering and sacrifice to the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Saul,\nin fact, saves Agag alive (it was politically expedient for Saul to keep his\nfoe alive and in chains in order to demonstrate his military might and\nsupremacy), keeps alive the best of the sheep and the oxen, the fatlings and\nthe lambs \u201cfor a burnt offering to the Lord.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/span>You\u2019ve got the picture, I\u2019m sure.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\ndidn\u2019t matter that the Lord had instructed Him to destroy them all because of\nthe evil Amalek had wrought upon Israel when they were fleeing Egypt.\u00a0 <\/span>It didn\u2019t matter that Saul was instructed to\ndestroy ALL of the livestock and beasts of burden.\u00a0 <\/span>Saul decides that his choices are of greater\nimportance than God\u2019s.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Saul\nmakes a decision on how he will \u201cserve\u201d the Lord and \u201coffer up\u201d to the Lord\nsacrifices and burnt offerings of the sheep and oxen kept alive.\u00a0 <\/span>Thus, he determines his own liturgy for his\n\u201corder of service\u201d to the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Samuel\nshows up on the scene, realizes what has happened and rebukes Saul.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Samuel 15:22-23:\u00a0\n<\/span><\/span><\/u><\/b>\u201cAnd Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt\nofferings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey\nis better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is\nas the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because\nthou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being\nking.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Got\nit?\u00a0 <\/span>Saul\u2019s decisions were seen by the\nLord as direct rebellion.\u00a0 <\/span>His choice to\nsave alive the best of the sheep and oxen for his \u201corder of service\u201d was\nregarded by the Lord as idolatry.\u00a0 <\/span>Both\nthose choices cost Saul the throne of the kingdom, and \u2013 most importantly \u2013 his\nstanding with God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nisn\u2019t any different in today\u2019s society \u2013 and especially today\u2019s churches.\u00a0 <\/span>When we come before the Lord with a planned\norder of things, a set schedule of how we are going to \u201cserve the Lord\u201d and do\nthis really big thing for Him, He sees our idolatry.\u00a0 <\/span>Idolatry results in a loss of standing with\nGod.\u00a0 <\/span>Witchcraft \u2013 manipulation and\ncontrol of people and events \u2013 and idolatry \u2013 the worship of, or placing\ngreater importance upon anyone or anything than we do of the Lord \u2013 costs us\nour kingship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Need\nto rule over sickness and disease?\u00a0 <\/span>Need\nto rule over poverty and needs?\u00a0 <\/span>Need to\nrule over the prevailing circumstances in your life instead of having them\nprevail over you?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nain\u2019t gonna happen, folks, when you decide that you will \u201cserve\u201d the Lord\naccording to your dictates, your priorities, your needs and your wants.\u00a0 <\/span>You can call it \u201cservice\u201d if you want.\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord calls it witchcraft and idolatry.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\n\u201ccreateds\u201d don\u2019t tell the Creator when, how and where they will respond to\nHim.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWhosoever wills\u201d don\u2019t come to Jesus\nChrist as their redeemer and decide the terms and conditions under which they\nwill serve Him, walk with Him, love Him and become heirs and joint-heirs in the\nKingdom of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Rulership\nis for those who meet God\u2019s conditions.\u00a0\n<\/span>The mandate for becoming an heir and joint-heir with Jesus Christ is\ndetermined by the Testator \u2013 NOT the heir.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Want\nto become an heir of the Kingdom of God?\u00a0\n<\/span>Want access to health, life, wholeness, healing, prosperity, and\nabundance in Christ?\u00a0 <\/span>Then stop making up\nthe conditions upon which you think you can have them.\u00a0 <\/span>Stop with your fake \u201corders of service.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>They count for squat in terms of spiritual\nvalue and Kingdom authority.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nknow this sounds really strong \u2014 and my comments are not intended for those who\nreally are coming before the Lord to minister to Him \u2014 on His terms \u2014 but\nrather, those who are stuck in the religious system \u2014 that system we\u2019ve talked\nabout in bygone days that came out of the Sadducees and Pharisees.\u00a0 <\/span>The Sadducees had an ecclesiastical,\nhierarchical order we refer to as \u201cPower over Man.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>The Pharisees had an order we know today as\n\u201cDemocratic\u201d \u2014 or rather, \u201cPower to the People.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

No\nmatter how you slice it, whether you see it as power vested in a few, or power\nvested in the masses, it is still \u201cPower to Man.\u201d NOT Power to God.\u00a0 <\/span>Whether you know it as \u201cSecular Humanism\u201d or\n\u201cReligious Humanism,\u201d it still boils down to humanism \u2014 man making the\ndecisions for himself and taking God off the Throne of their lives.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nneed to take you down a bit of a rabbit trail for a while to show you where\nthis Spirit of Idolatry leads in the body of Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>Allow me to borrow from\nsomething I wrote in the book (soon to be published) titled: Seven Nations,\nSeven Letters<\/b>.\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019ll recall from\nearlier discussions that this book deals with the parallel between the seven\nnations that occupied Canaan \u2014 the same ones that God commanded Israel to drive\nout of the land He was giving to them \u2014 and the seven letters in Revelation\nwhich essentially become a single letter to the Body of Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Next\nweek we will begin with the Letter to Thyatira, which addresses the idolatry\nand witchcraft that was manifested in Jezebel, the wife of King Ahab. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
