Tribulation, Part 2<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

For reasons that are perfectly understandable when you realize\nhow much we have been contaminated with the culture and mindset of death, God\u2019s\npeople want to be \u201craptured\u201d out of here to escape all those things that Paul\nexperienced for the sake of the Gospel.\u00a0\n<\/span>I want to begin today with a story of a young woman who experienced much\nof what we have just read in II Corinthians.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Her name is Diana H.\u00a0\n<\/span>Hopefully, we will be able to have her share her experiences in person,\nbut for today, let me give you a very brief overview of her life.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

For reference sake, Diana H is the wife of Michael H.\u00a0 <\/span>Michael is a worship leader at Joel Osteen\u2019s\nchurch in Houston.\u00a0 <\/span>He is also a\nfellow-musician and guitarist.\u00a0 <\/span>He is the\nfounder of the stem cell clinic in Houston where I received my stem cell\ninjection.\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s my introduction for\ntoday.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Before I share Diana\u2019s experiences, let me lay a little\ngroundwork from Paul\u2019s letter to the Corinthians to which I have already made\nreference<\/a>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

II Corinthians 11:23-28<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>Are they ministers of\nChrist? (I speak as a fool) I am<\/i> more; in labours more abundant, in\nstripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes<\/i> save one.\n<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>Thrice\nwas I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night\nand a day I have been in the deep;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In<\/span><\/i> journeyings often, in<\/i> perils of waters, in<\/i> perils\nof robbers, in<\/i> perils by mine own<\/i> countrymen, in<\/i> perils by\nthe heathen, in<\/i> perils in the city, in<\/i> perils in the wilderness, in<\/i>\nperils in the sea, in<\/i> perils among false brethren;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and\nthirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside those things that are\nwithout, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Diana\n(and I won\u2019t even attempt to pronounce her Arabic name) was born and grew up in\nIran.\u00a0 <\/span>She was a Muslim from birth.\u00a0 <\/span>She was married to a man who was\ndied-in-the-wool Islamic, hated everything about America, the Western world and\nChristianity specifically.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Diana\nknew nothing about Jesus Christ except that which was drilled into her by her\nMuslim instructors and peers.\u00a0 <\/span>No long\nafter a young son was born, Jesus appeared to Diana in person.\u00a0 <\/span>To say that it was a life-changing experience\nwould be a serious understatement.\u00a0\n<\/span>Without access to other Christians, without access to a Bible of any\nkind, the Lord began to reveal His Word to her.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

She\nbegan to talk to her family about Jesus.\u00a0\n<\/span>Her husband became enraged over her confession and demanded that she\nrenounce Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>She refused to\nrecant.\u00a0 <\/span>Her husband then turned her over\nto the Islamic authorities who thought they could beat it out of her.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

She\nwas publicly beaten but stood her ground.\u00a0\n<\/span>She would not take back her confession of the Lord Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>The torture and beatings only increased.\u00a0 <\/span>Her back is permanently scarred today from\nthe beatings she took.\u00a0 <\/span>No matter how\nmuch she was tortured, she would not go back on her testimony of Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Days\nturned into weeks and weeks turned into months.\u00a0\n<\/span>How anyone could survive the torture and beatings she took is a modern\ntestimony to what the Apostle Paul went through, lived through it and continued\nto preach and teach Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\nday came when she managed to get her young son and escape from Iran.\u00a0 <\/span>Friends helped spirit her out of the country,\nand through a series of sequences eventually made it to the United States.\u00a0 <\/span>Christian friends in the U.S. helped her get\nto Houston where she was introduced to the Lakewood Church.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

She\nand Michael were introduced to each other and sparks flew.\u00a0 <\/span>Within three months they were married.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Today,\nwhen you meet Diana, you will meet someone whose past life and experiences have\nonly resulted in her exhibiting peace, joy, love and a countenance that belies\nany semblance to her past.\u00a0 <\/span>She is a joy\nto be around.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nis a very brief overview of Diana\u2019s conversion and tribulations.\u00a0 <\/span>She will tell you that her experience with\nseeing Jesus, and His personal visitation transcended all the religion and\nteaching she\u2019d ever known.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\ngoes without saying that the person with the experience is never at the mercy\nof the person with the theory or religious doctrine.\u00a0 <\/span>Once a person has had that kind of\nvisitation, you\u2019ll never persuade them that it was just a dream or vision or\nfantasy.\u00a0 <\/span>A visitation with the Lord is\ntotally transformative!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nPaul on the road to Damascus.\u00a0 <\/span>Totally\nindoctrinated in the traditions of the past, a lawyer among lawyers expert in\nthe Law of Moses, and one who firmly believed that Jesus Christ was NOT the Son\nof God, when Jesus appeared to Him, it changed everything!\u00a0 <\/span>The reality of Jesus was such that none of\nhis past teaching and training could substitute for the relationship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\ncome back, therefore, to the statement that Peter made (and we opened with this\nlast week);<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Peter 4:12-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>Beloved, think it not\nstrange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange\nthing happened unto you:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ\u2019s\nsufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with\nexceeding joy.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye<\/i>;\nfor the spirit of glory and of God resteth<\/span> upon you:\non their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nsaid, let me take you to another young lady that I knew well, whose testimony\ncost her dearly, but whose testimony also resulted in the salvation of her\npersecutors.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nI\u2019m about to share with you is a story I\u2019ve repeated throughout the years.\u00a0 <\/span>This is the tale of a young teenage girl\nwhose grit and determination to serve the Lord preached such a loud message, it\nresulted in many folks\u2019 salvation.\u00a0\n<\/span>Watching Rosa Frankson\u2019s experiences and seeing her love for the Lord\nimpacted my life as well as the lives of my parents \u2013 and ultimately, many\nhundreds of other folks.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Point\nHope, Alaska -- in the 1950's and early 1960's -- was still pretty much an\nEskimo village cut off from the rest of the world.\u00a0 At that time, it was a\ncommunity of perhaps 250 people.\u00a0 Situated on the northwest tip of Alaska\nabout 150 miles NW of Kotzebue, we were lucky to get one mail plane \u2013 bush\nplanes only, if you please\u00a0\u2013 per week, and in wintertime we could\nfrequently go for three weeks without mail.\u00a0\n<\/span>The pilots landed on the beach, or a small strip of land that had been\ncleared, provided it was free of snow drifts.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0It\nis important to understand that the Point Hope of 1961 was still steeped in old\ntraditions, superstitions, shamanism and witchcraft.\u00a0 Although an\nEpiscopal church had existed there for some 50 years, the local priest admitted\nthat they were not getting the job done in evangelizing the community.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nwe arrived in Point Hope in the fall of 1961 to build an Assemblies of God\nchurch, opposition within the community began immediately.\u00a0 We were not\nwanted.\u00a0 The local shaman began walking circles around the church we were\nbuilding and pronouncing curses on us.\u00a0 Of course we were a threat to his\nspiritual dominion in the community -- and up to that time, his spiritual\ncontrol over the villagers was very strong.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0In\nthe months following our construction of the new church, my mother began a club\ncalled \"Esthers\" in order to reach out to the young girls in the\ncommunity.\u00a0 It was a means to teach manners and etiquette, good grooming\nand appearance, and apply teaching from the book of Esther in order to bring\nthe Gospel to them in a practical sense.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\ngroup quickly caught on, and before long, she had between a dozen and two dozen\ngirls ranging from 10 to 16 years of age.\u00a0 One of those girls was 13-year\nold Rosa Frankson, the daughter\u00a0of the local postmaster.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0Rosa\nquickly accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Saviour and began to\nbecome an outspoken voice for the gospel in her peer group.\u00a0 Word of her\nconversion and increasing influence among the young people spread to the local\nshaman.\u00a0 Incensed that someone was encroaching on \u201chis territory,\u201d he went\nto certain households where he knew his authority was unquestioned and encouraged\nthe teenage boys to \"keep her from going over to the Capeners.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0On\nthe day of the next \"Esthers\" meeting, Rosa set out to our place as\nusual.\u00a0 This time, three teenage boys were waiting for her.\u00a0 They\nroughed her up and told her that she was not to come to our place any\nlonger.\u00a0 She lay on the ground until they left, and then continued to our\nhouse as usual.\u00a0 Although her appearance was a bit disheveled when she\narrived at our house, she said nothing.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0The\nfollowing week, as she headed to the club meeting, the same boys were waiting\nfor her.\u00a0 This time they beat and kicked her.\u00a0 She was in pain, but\nshe came to the meeting anyway.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\ntime, she could not avoid telling my folks what had happened.\u00a0 Dad went to\na meeting of the city elders and expressed his strong displeasure.\u00a0 He\nordered the leaders to appropriately discipline the boys who were mistreating\nRosa, and made clear that he would not put up with this kind of abuse of a\nteenage girl.\u00a0 In the meantime, Rosa was all the more outspoken about her\nrelationship with the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0It\nmade no difference.\u00a0 The shaman threatened the parents of the boys with\ncurses if the boys did not carry out his directives.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

To\nmost of us who have grown up in traditional American society, the idea of a\nshaman is totally foreign.\u00a0 <\/span>The idea that\na shaman actually has any real power and\/or the ability to actually bring\ncurses upon someone that results in disaster or tragedy is just so much\nbunk!\u00a0 <\/span>Or so most folks think.\u00a0 <\/span>Hollywood\u2019s movies often portray shamans as\nrelatively harmless Indian witch doctors who do their thing with herbs, do a\nfew incantations, scatter strange mixtures in the fire, and have visions.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\ngets left out of these portrayals is the fact that the overwhelming majority of\nshamans exercise demonic power.\u00a0 <\/span>There is\nnothing benign about it.\u00a0 <\/span>They do have\npower, and they do exercise it in order to subjugate people and keep them\nliving in fear.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nshaman was no different.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nlack of true spiritual authority being taught and exercised by the local priest\nand those who professed Christianity only emboldened Point Hope\u2019s shaman.\u00a0 <\/span>The thought that someone might actually thumb\ntheir nose at his authority \u2013 and especially a teenage girl \u2013 was intolerable!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nRosa continued to come to our home and participate in the Esthers group, the\nboys who had assaulted her backed off for a week or so, actually impressed by\nher boldness.\u00a0 <\/span>One of the old Eskimo\ntraditions was the trying of a person\u2019s grit just to see what they were made\nof.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Rosa\u2019s\ngrit and determination to pursue the Lord in the face of her attackers had\nsomewhat the same result \u2013 at least momentarily.\u00a0 <\/span>They backed off for a week or so.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nshaman wasn\u2019t going to stand still, however.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nnext week, he ordered the boys to \"make sure\" that Rosa did not come\nover to our place.\u00a0 Strong threats were levied against them and their\nparents.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nnext time Rosa headed towards our place for the weekly Esthers meeting, they\nstoned her, kicked her, and beat her unmercifully.\u00a0 She was a bloodied\nmess, but she came anyway.\u00a0 When she walked in our door, she was bent over\nin\u00a0excruciating pain.\u00a0 Dad took one look at her and knew that she was\nseverely injured.\u00a0 He contacted her parents, and then the hospital in\nKotzebue.\u00a0They immediately sent a doctor and a MedEvac plane to pick her\nup.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0For\nseveral days, Rosa hung between life and death in the hospital.\u00a0 The\ninternal injuries to her were extreme, and although the doctors did emergency\nsurgery to repair broken bones and punctured organs, they advised the Frankson\nfamily that her condition was grave.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0Most\nof the time, Rosa was alert and conscious, and she took every opportunity to\ntalk to the doctors and the nurses about \"how wonderful it is to know\nJesus.\"\u00a0 When questioned about the boys that beat her, she simply said,\n\"They just don't know Jesus.\u00a0 Once they do, they won't try to beat\npeople up anymore.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Her\nforgiving attitude took the doctors and nurses by surprise.\u00a0 <\/span>Even her parents didn\u2019t know what to make of\nit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nknow you\u2019ll really appreciate this, but I have to leave the story here for\ntoday and finish it next week.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
