Tribulation, Part 1<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

It was my intention to begin a series on Covenant today,\nbut because of a number of ongoing discussions with different groups in the\npast few weeks, I felt the necessity of changing gears for the next few weeks<\/span><\/b>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Most of us have grown up within the structured church world and\nsubjected to a variety of teachings concerning \u201cThe Great Tribulation.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>In fact, there is no such thing in the Word \u2014\nanywhere \u2014 as \u201cThe Great Tribulation.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

There ia<\/span> absolutely no doubt that tribulation\nexists, but rarely do we hear teachers actually expound on its\nsignificance.\u00a0 <\/span>The word, \u201ctribulation,\u201d\ncomes from a translation of the Greek word, <\/span><\/b>thlipsis<\/span><\/i><\/b>, (try\npronouncing that without twisting your tongue!) and it actually means:\npressure, affliction, trial, etc.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

That believers should think this to be some event to escape from\nis a horrible misunderstanding of its purpose in the life of the believer.\u00a0 <\/span>Consider the following prophecy from Peter in\nhis first general letter to the body of Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

I Peter 4:12-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>Beloved, think it not\nstrange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange\nthing happened unto you:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ\u2019s\nsufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with\nexceeding joy.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye<\/i>;\nfor the spirit of glory and of God resteth<\/span> upon you:\non their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\u2019s a strange way to begin today, but buckle your seatbelt, we\ngot lots of territory to cover on this topic.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider,\nfirst of all, something that Jesus said to His disciples.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 16:33<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>These\nthings I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye\nshall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nsee it don\u2019t you?\u00a0 <\/span>Tribulation \u2014 thlipsis\n\u2014 is a guarantee, and it has a real purpose in the life of the believer.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take\na look at what Jesus has to say about what takes place when we endure this\nprocess \u2014NOT when we try to escape from it!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 13:18-23<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0\n<\/span><\/span>Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>When any one heareth the word of the\nkingdom, and understandeth<\/span> it<\/i> not, then cometh\nthe wicked one<\/i>, and catcheth<\/span> away that which\nwas sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he\nthat heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth<\/span> for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth<\/span> because of the word, by and by he is offended.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth\nthe word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke\nthe word, and he becometh unfruitful.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But he that received seed into the good ground is he that\nheareth the word, and understandeth<\/span> it<\/i>; which\nalso beareth<\/span> fruit, and bringeth<\/span>\nforth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Using\nthe \u201cparable of the Sower\u201d may seem like a strange way to illustrate the\npurpose of tribulation or trial, but let\u2019s get into the meat of this parable.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nis saying that first of all that we must hear<\/i><\/b> the Word.\u00a0 <\/span>How we hear is critical.\u00a0 <\/span>If we hear without understanding, evil\nspirits come along to contradict that which we have heard and steal it from us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nthere are those who hear the word, but are in the midst of rocky\nsituations.\u00a0 <\/span>The word in Greek for\n\u201cstony\u201d is, petrodes<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,\na word which identifies situations which appear to be trouble, hence,\nrocky.\u00a0 <\/span>The problem that folks encounter\nwhen they hear the Word in the midst of these rocky situations is that they\nhave no grounding in the Word.\u00a0 <\/span>It has\nnever taken root in them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\ntells us that when folks receive the Word in the midst of these circumstances,\nbecause they have no root and grounding in the Word, prickly things come up\n(thorns) and choke out whatever Word they have previously heard.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nmakes it clear that when folks receive the Word in the midst of these rocky\nplaces, the Word gets tested.\u00a0\n<\/span>Tribulation, pressure, persecution and affliction arise.\u00a0 <\/span>Those circumstances test what they have\npreviously heard and they get offended.\u00a0\n<\/span>The Greek word in this instance is: skandalizo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>It means: to get tripped up, to be enticed to\nsin, to be entrapped.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Finally,\nwe have those who hear and receive the Word and allow it to take root in\nthem.\u00a0 <\/span>They understand the Word, and as a\nresult, even in the midst of testing and trial, they bring forth much fruit for\nthe Kingdom.\u00a0 <\/span>Their lives are productive\nin every sense, because the Word has become their priority.\u00a0 <\/span>They both read, and hear the Word.\u00a0 <\/span>Their hearing is a rhema<\/span><\/i><\/b>, and it produces a dimension of\nfaith that stands the test of time.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\ntake this the next step.\u00a0 <\/span>We go back to\nwhat Peter wrote to the body of Christ:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Peter 4:12-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>Beloved, think it not\nstrange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange\nthing happened unto you:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nlook at this fiery trial.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Here\u2019s\nhow the KJV puts it \u2014 and this is a poor translation of the Greek:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

II\nTimothy 2:15-17 (KJV)<\/span><\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Study to show thyself\napproved unto God, a workman that needeth<\/span> not to be\nashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and<\/i> vain\nbabblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will\neat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus<\/span> and Philetus<\/span>;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\nlet\u2019s take a look at this re-translation and amplification that I did some\nyears ago.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

II\nTimothy 2:15-17 (RAC Translation)<\/span><\/span><\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Be\ninstantly responsive to the Lord, making yourself available to Him in the midst\nof the crucible, a tried and tested laborer who has no fear of being examined \u2013\none who, by virtue of God\u2019s testing and the time spent in the crucible with\nHim, knows the proven Word of Truth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Stand aloof from, and avoid the untested, untried \u201cword\u201d which\ncomes forth from those who would propagate speculation and create their own\ndoctrines.\u00a0 <\/span>These profane speculations\nand so-called \u201cwords\u201d are empty babblings which will only serve to advance\nungodliness;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And those who spread these doctrines will only yield a gangrene\npasture \u2013 a source of poison to those who ingest their \u201cword\u201d\u2026..\u00a0 <\/span>and we point out Hymenaeus<\/span>\nand Philetus<\/span> as examples.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>You see the enormous difference, right?\u00a0 <\/span>The word, \u201cstudy,\u201d is a really poor exchange\nfor the Greek word, <\/span>spoudazo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, <\/span><\/i><\/b>which really means\nto be responsive, to be diligent, the be prompt and earnest.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nwe have the word, <\/span>dokimos<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, <\/span><\/i><\/b>for being\napproved.\u00a0 <\/span>In this instance, the word\nrepresents being assayed, being tested in the midst of a crucible.\u00a0 <\/span>The history of this word in Greek is that\nthis was used by those who smelted gold and silver for the purpose of making\ncoins.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019m\nsure you all know the picture of smelting.\u00a0\n<\/span>Raw gold is placed into a crucible, heated to the boiling point, the\ndross or dirt is scooped off, and the gold is re-heated again for the same\nprocess.\u00a0 <\/span>This continues until the\nsmelters can state without fear that the gold has reached 99.9999 purity.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

THAT,\nfolks is the purpose of the crucible.\u00a0\n<\/span>That is the purpose of the fiery trial.\u00a0\n<\/span>That is the purpose of tribulation and affliction.\u00a0 <\/span>That is the heat you are going through!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nwe come out of the crucible, we KNOW the Word!\u00a0\n<\/span>It is no longer theory.\u00a0 <\/span>It is\nestablished fact!\u00a0 <\/span>It has been proven\nagain and again and again in our lives until it is a pure Word, and we are\nrepresentatives of that Word.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis where we are instructed to avoid strange doctrines \u2014 funny doctrines that\nare untested in the Word, and untested in life, and to take note of and avoid\nthose who propagate error.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Before\nwe continue, let\u2019s take a look a<\/span> what the Lord wants\nto reveal to those who will allow this testing and tribulation to take place.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But as it is written, natural eye has not seen, nor has the ear\nof flesh heard, neither has it begun to be conceived by the unredeemed, natural\nmind, those things that God has made ready to reveal to those that love Him,\n[those who are in Christ, and in whom He dwells].<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But God has unveiled and revealed them to us by His Spirit; for\nthe Spirit pursues, digs out and prepares to reveal to us the profound depths\nof the nature, the character and purposes of God which have been hidden away\nfrom us [for an appointed time in the development of our character in Him].<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(I Corinthians 2:9-10, RAC Translation and\nAmplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Letr\u2019s<\/span><\/span> talk not about the overcoming that we\nare required to do in the midst of the tribulation and testing.\u00a0 <\/span>Let me first take you to Revelation 7.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation 7:9-17<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>After this I beheld,\nand, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and\nkindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the\nLamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud\nvoice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the\nLamb.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about<\/i>\nthe elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and\nworshipped God, <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>Saying,\nAmen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power,\nand might, be<\/i> unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these\nwhich are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him,\nSir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great\ntribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of\nthe Lamb.<\/o:p><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day\nand night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among\nthem. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>They\nshall hunger no more, neither thirst any more<\/span>;\nneither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed\nthem, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe\naway all tears from their eyes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\n1996, when the Angel of the Lord transported me to see the Marriage Supper of\nthe Lamb, this is about as good a description and picture of that which I\nsaw.\u00a0 <\/span>Literally every single person there\nwas an \u201covercomer,\u201d having come through great tribulation, testing, affliction,\nfire \u2014 you name it!\u00a0 <\/span>And as John\ndescribed it earlier in Revelation,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation 12:11<\/span><\/u><\/b>: And they \u2014 the\nredeemed and tried believers \u2014 overcame and demolished the Enemy (who had\ntormented and attempted <\/a>with everything in his arsenal to\nbring them down and defeat them) \u2014 by the proven and tested Word because of the\nblood that Jesus shed as the legal basis for their authority, AND by the confession\nof their mouths in agreement with that proven and tested Word.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(RAC Translation & Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Consider,\nthen, the rejoicing in Heaven when John saw and heard the following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation 19:6-8<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0\n<\/span><\/span>And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as\nthe voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying,\nAlleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the\nmarriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her\nwas granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the\nfine linen is the righteousness of saints<\/u>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis absolutely critical to our understanding of \u201ctribulation.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>It produces righteousness in those who will\novercome in the midst of the testing and trial.\u00a0\n<\/span>The white linen is that picture of a pure individual.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Early\nin Jesus\u2019 ministry, He had said, <\/span>Be ye therefore\nperfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(Matthew 5:48)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nhave lost track of the number of times throughout the years when religious\npeople have said to me, \u201cYou can\u2019t possible<\/span> be\nperfect!\u00a0 <\/span>Nobody can be perfect until\nthey get to Heaven.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\na crock!\u00a0 <\/span>What a pile of baloney!\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus would never have said, \u201cBe perfect..\u201d\nif He hadn\u2019t provided the means for us to achieve perfection.\u00a0 <\/span>That means to perfection is the means to\ncompleteness in Christ Jesus.\u00a0 <\/span>It is the\npath to absolute wholeness in Him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\npath to completeness and wholeness leads us through the fire.\u00a0 <\/span>It leads us through enormous testing,\npressure, circumstances that defy rationale, circumstances that look like death\nitself, situations with troublesome people, opposition from demonic spirits \u2014\nin other words, the crucible!\u00a0 <\/span>Everything\nwe experience is designed to produce opportunities in us where we will rely on\nthe Word, listen to Holy Spirit and respond appropriately.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis no room in Heaven for cry-babies.\u00a0\n<\/span>There is no room for complainers.\u00a0\n<\/span>There is no room for those who try to say, \u201cDoes God hate me?\u00a0 <\/span>What have I done to deserve this?\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>By the same token, there is no room for those\nwho proclaim their own righteousness, or claim that they have a right to go to\nHeaven because \u201cI\u2019ve done good most of my life!\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Maybe\nI should re-phrase this: There is a place in Heaven for cry-babies and\ncomplainers, but that place is Paradise, a place designed for testing, for\nschooling in righteousness.\u00a0 <\/span>Until people\nachieve the place where they demonstrate the fruit of righteousness, they will\nnever become a part of that company we refer to as \u201cthe Bride of Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nwrap up today with the statement we\u2019ve already covered earlier today.\u00a0 <\/span>This is the promise of the Lord Jesus Christ\nthat we WILL BE TESTED in the crucible.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 16:33<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>These\nthings I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye\nshall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
