\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s see if we can wrap us this series today and talk about the\nblessing of tribulation.\u00a0 <\/span>Can\u2019t think of\nanyone I\u2019ve ever talked to over the years who suggested that tribulation was an\nabsolute blessing, but it is.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

No affliction, no trial, no false accusation, no trouble of any\nkind seems to be joyful at the moment you are going through it, and when all\nhell breaks loose around you, you often look for a hole so you can crawl into\nit and hide.\u00a0 <\/span>Doesn\u2019t seem to work that\nway, does it?<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s consider a man whose experiences are well documented in the\nWord.\u00a0 <\/span>He went through things that none\nof us ever want to experience (and yet many have in this day and age) but they\ncame out victorious and a blessing, not only to himself but to his family and the\nworld around.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

We will pick up the narrative of Joseph in Genesis 37 as a\nbeginning point.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

You\u2019ll\nrecall Joseph\u2019s vision experience of seeing the sun, moon and stars and how\nthey bowed down to him.\u00a0 <\/span>When he shared\nthat vision with his father and mother and brothers, except for his father and\nmother, his eleven brothers became extremely jealous.\u00a0 <\/span>His parents weren\u2019t really pleased, but they\nfiled it away for future reference.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Things\nonly grew worse in the family relationship between Joseph and his brothers when\nJacob called Joseph one day and place an elegant and exceptionally striking\ncoat of many colors on Joseph.\u00a0 <\/span>That robe\nwas representative of the royalty that would come upon Joseph in the years to\ncome, and he wore it proudly.\u00a0 <\/span>It was\nalso prophetic and a confirming prophecy to his vision of the sun, moon and\nstars bowing to him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\ntheir hearts, his brothers began conspiring together to rid themselves of\nhim.\u00a0 <\/span>Nothing really happened, however,\nuntil some time<\/span> later when the brothers were out in\nthe fields tending their father\u2019s sheep.\u00a0\n<\/span>Jacob decided to send Joseph out to find them and check on their\nwelfare, as well as that of his many flocks.\u00a0\n<\/span>The brothers turned out not to be where they told their father they\nwould be, and Joseph wandered about until a stranger he stumbled across told\nhim that his brothers had gone to Dothan.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\nmade the trek to Dothan, and his brothers saw him at a distance.\u00a0 <\/span>Immediately they began to conspire to kill\nhim.\u00a0 <\/span>Reuben, the oldest, thought to\nspare Joseph\u2019s life, not wanting Joseph\u2019s blood on his hands, and suggested\nthat they strip him of his clothing \u2013 especially the coat of many colors \u2013 and\nkill a lamb, and dip the coat in the lamb\u2019s blood.\u00a0 <\/span>They would tell their father that a wild\nbeast had killed him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\u2019s\nexactly what they did!\u00a0 <\/span>They stripped\nJoseph of his coat and his clothing and threw him into a pit in the wilderness,\nleaving him and believing he would die there.\u00a0\n<\/span>They sent the coat to Jacob with their lie of what had happened to\nJoseph.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Meanwhile,\nwhile they are enjoying themselves and the treachery they had just initiated, a\nband of Ishmaelite traders passed by.\u00a0 <\/span>This\npresented a \u201dbetter\u201d solution to their original plan.\u00a0 <\/span>They pulled Joseph out of the pit and sold\nhim to the traders for 20 pieces of silver, who thereupon took Joseph into\nEgypt and sold him as a slave to an officer of Pharaoh, Potiphar<\/span>\nby name, who was also a captain of Pharaoh\u2019s guard.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Think,\nnow about all that has happened to Joseph in a short period of time.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>\nHe has a dream or\nvision of himself in a place of rulership<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>When he shares it with his family, he gets\nnothing but hate and jealousy from his brothers.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>\nThat situation is\nmagnified when his father places a coat of many colors on him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>\nWhen he goes out to\ncheck on his brothers\u2019 welfare, they plot to kill him.\u00a0 <\/span>That plot is intercepted when Reuben comes up\nwith another plan to strip him of his coat, throw him in a pit, dip his coat in\na lamb\u2019s blood and send it back to their father with the lie that Joseph was\nkilled by a wild beast.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>\nInstead of being\nleft to die in the pit, Joseph gets sold to a band of Ishmaelite merchants for\nthe paltry sum of 20 pieces of silver, who immediately take him with them into\nEgypt.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>\nJoseph now gets\nsold as a slave to the captain of Pharaoh\u2019s guard, Potiphar<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

How\ndo you like it so far?\u00a0 <\/span>Sound like\ntribulation to you?\u00a0 <\/span>Just wait!\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s going to get worse \u2013 a lot worse<\/i><\/b>!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Throughout\nall of this, so far, Joseph has behaved himself.\u00a0 <\/span>He has shown himself to be a young man of\nintegrity and honor.\u00a0 <\/span>We don\u2019t see him\nrailing at his brothers or his family, or even God, for the miseries that have\nbefallen him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Potiphar<\/span><\/span> takes a liking to\nJoseph and soon entrusts him with more and more responsibility for the\noversight of his business affairs.\u00a0 <\/span>We\nare told that the Lord was with Joseph and caused him to prosper in everything\nthat he put his hands to.\u00a0 <\/span>It isn\u2019t long\nbefore Potiphar<\/span> makes Joseph the official Overseer of\nliterally everything that he had, his personal possessions, his business\naffairs, and the care of his household.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now\nwe have a real problem in the making.\u00a0 <\/span>Potiphar<\/span> has a wife who really lusts after Joseph.\u00a0 <\/span>She attempts to entice him and seduce him in\norder to get him to take her to bed.\u00a0\n<\/span>Joseph\u2019s response again is the response of someone whose character and\nnature are absolutely above reproach.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cBut he refused and said to his master\u2019s wife, \u201cBehold, with me here,<\/i>\nmy master does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has put\nall that he owns in my charge. \u201cThere is no one greater in this house than I,\nand he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How\nthen could I do this great evil and sin against God?\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(Genesis 39:8-9, NAS)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Notice\nthat Joseph\u2019s concerns are not so much that he would be sinning against Potiphar<\/span>, but that he would be sinning against God!\u00a0 <\/span>That was his priority!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But\nPotiphar\u2019s<\/span> wife is so overcome with lust that she\nwon\u2019t leave Joseph alone, pestering him day after day after day.\u00a0 <\/span>A day comes when Joseph goes into the house\nto take care of Potiphar\u2019s<\/span> business.\u00a0 <\/span>For once, there are no other men in the\nhousehold.\u00a0 <\/span>Potiphar\u2019s<\/span>\nwife grabs Joseph by the arm and attempts to force him to come to bed with\nher.\u00a0 <\/span>He won\u2019t have any of it!\u00a0 <\/span>He breaks loose from her grip and runs out\nthe door but in the process, loses his cloak.\u00a0\n<\/span>Bless Potiphar\u2019s<\/span> wife\u2019s pointed little\nhead!\u00a0 <\/span>She screams \u201cRape.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Too bad there weren\u2019t any medical doctors who\ncould have immediately proved her to be a liar!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Potiphar<\/span><\/span> comes home and\nlistens to his wife\u2019s lying tale of supposed woe, and without taking into\nconsideration Joseph\u2019s character and integrity, and the fact that he has\ncompletely trusted him; without taking into consideration his own knowledge of\nhis wife\u2019s predilection for infidelity, he becomes emotionally enraged.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once\nagain, Joseph is bound and \u2013 this time \u2013 cast into prison.\u00a0 <\/span>This is not just any old common prison where\nordinary slaves or law-breakers are cast.\u00a0\n<\/span>This is the prison of \u201cthe King\u2019s prisoners\u201d \u2013 where those who have\ncommitted treason are kept, where those who are generally under a death\nsentence for serious crimes against the crown.\u00a0\n<\/span>Nevertheless, we are told that \u201cthe Lord was with Joseph!\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once\nagain, Joseph finds favor, this time with the jailer.\u00a0 <\/span>Over a period of time (we are not told how\nlong it took) Joseph has the same kind of authority and responsibility given to\nhim that he had held with Potiphar<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>We are told the following in Genesis 39.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Genesis 39:23 NAS<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>The\nchief jailer did not supervise anything under Joseph\u2019s charge because the LORD\nwas with him; and whatever he did, the LORD made to prosper.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Even\nin the midst of his afflictions, his persecution, his \u201ctribulation,\u201d because of\nhis purposed integrity towards God, he had incredible favor.\u00a0 <\/span>Nevertheless, Joseph is going to be in prison\nfor the better part of 13 years.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Some time<\/span><\/span> after Joseph was\ngiven charge over the prisoners, the king\u2019s cupbearer\/chief butler and the\nking\u2019s baker both committed offenses towards Pharaoh.\u00a0 <\/span>We are told that Pharaoh\u2019s rage was explosive\ntowards them and he threw them both into the prison where Joseph had charge.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Joseph\nwas given charge over these two officials and things progressed peacefully\nuntil they both had visions.\u00a0 <\/span>The\ncupbearer\/chief butler had a vision of three branches of grapes that flourished\nand brought forth luscious grapes.\u00a0 <\/span>He\npressed the grapes into Pharaoh\u2019s cup and handed the cup to the king.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Joseph\ninterpreted his vision and told him that he would be restored to his original\nposition in three days.\u00a0 <\/span>He then asked\nthe chief butler to remember him to Pharaoh because of his unjust imprisonment.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nbaker saw this favorable response to the chief butler\u2019s vision and decided to\ntell his vision.\u00a0 <\/span>He told Joseph that he\nalso saw three baskets of bread and cooked foods but the birds were eating\nthem.\u00a0 <\/span>Joseph told him that within three\ndays he would be taken out of prison and hanged by Pharaoh.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Just\nas he had prophesied, the chief butler was restored to his position and the\nbaker was hanged.\u00a0 <\/span>As often happens in\ncircumstances like this, the butler completely forgot his assurances to Joseph\nand did not mention him at all to Pharaoh.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Two\nmore years go by.\u00a0 <\/span>Joseph has now been\nimprisoned for most of 13 years.\u00a0 <\/span>The\nLord has been with Joseph and he has prospered nonetheless but it was still\nprison, no matter how you slice it.\u00a0 <\/span>Now\nit is Pharaoh\u2019s turn to have a vision.\u00a0\n<\/span>He relates that vision to his wise men and magicians and complains that\nthere is no one to interpret it.\u00a0 <\/span>All of\na sudden, the chief butler remembers Joseph and relates his vision experiences\nto Pharaoh and the outcome that Joseph prophesied.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Pharaoh\ncalls for Joseph to be released from prison.\u00a0\n<\/span>He is hastily cleaned, shaved and dressed in better clothes and made to\nstand before Pharaoh.\u00a0 <\/span>Pharaoh relates\nhis twin visions of the 7 fat cows and the 7 lean cows with the lean cows\neating and devouring the fat cows \u2013 and still remaining in horrible\ncondition.\u00a0 <\/span>His second vision is of corn\nin a field.\u00a0 <\/span>There are seven fat, full, wonderful\nears of corn on a stalk.\u00a0 <\/span>He then sees a\nhot, east wind come along and blast another stalk of seven ears of corn,\nleaving it dry and useless for consumption.\u00a0\n<\/span>The seven blasted ears then eat up the seven luscious ears.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Pharaoh\nlets Joseph know that he has related his visions to his magicians and wise-men,\nand that none of them had a clue as to the meaning.\u00a0 <\/span>Joseph lets him know that God is the revealer\nof secrets and visions, and that the visions are really one vision representing\nseven years of plenty and seven years of famine.\u00a0 <\/span>He proceeds to give Pharaoh a God-given\nstrategy for dealing with the famine and recommends that Pharaoh choose the\nwisest man from his country to oversee this preparation process.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Watch,\nnow, how God turns all these years of tribulation into the most spectacular\nblessing for Joseph \u2013 and not just for Joseph, but his family and the whole\nland, as well as the surrounding nations.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Genesis 41:37-46<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And\nthe thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.\u00a0 <\/span>And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we\nfind such a one<\/i> as this is<\/i>, a man in whom the Spirit of God is<\/i>?\n\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

And Pharaoh\nsaid unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath showed thee all this, there is<\/i>\nnone so discreet and wise as thou art<\/i>: \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Thou shalt<\/span> be\nover my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only\nin the throne will I be greater than thou. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I\nhave set thee over all the land of Egypt. \u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

And Pharaoh\ntook off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph\u2019s hand, and arrayed him\nin vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck; \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>And he made him to ride in the second\nchariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler<\/i>\nover all the land of Egypt. \u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

And Pharaoh\nsaid unto Joseph, I am<\/i> Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up\nhis hand or foot in all the land of Egypt. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>And Pharaoh called Joseph\u2019s name Zaphnathpaaneah<\/span> (<\/span>which means:<\/span><\/b>\n<\/span>treasury of the glorious rest<\/span><\/i><\/b>);\nand he gave him to wife Asenath<\/span> the daughter of Potipherah<\/span> priest of On. And Joseph went out over all<\/i>\nthe land of Egypt.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And Joseph was<\/i> thirty years old when he stood before\nPharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and\nwent throughout all the land of Egypt.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

How\u2019s\nthat for a blessing?\u00a0 <\/span>Think you can top\nthat?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nreally is time for God\u2019s people to get over the tribulation mentality and look\nat the blessing that is being prepared for them in the midst of their\nafflictions and pressures.\u00a0 <\/span>It is time\nfor believers to focus on remaining true to their priorities in God, their\nintegrity and their faithfulness to the Word of the Lord \u2013 even if the\ncircumstances are the exact opposite of God\u2019s promises to them!<\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
