Healing for the Soul & Spirit, Part 1<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

This is a topic I have mostly avoided for the past 20-plus years, ever\nsince I first heard it discussed.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve\nheard about \u201csoul fragments\u201d for years, but never really considered the\nScriptural foundations for this area of teaching \u2013 and in fact thought folks\nwho ministered in this area had really gone overboard, stretching the Word into\nan area that didn\u2019t really exist.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

This is an area of understanding where I have had some blinders on \u2013 and\nthankfully the Holy Spirit has opened my eyes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

When Jesus first began His ministry, He opened up to the\nIsaiah Scroll and read the following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Isaiah 61:1-3<\/span><\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>1<\/span><\/sup>The Spirit of the Lord GOD is<\/i> upon me; because the LORD\nhath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek (<\/span>\u00e5\u00e9\u00f0ˆ\u00f2\u00c8<\/span> -<\/span>€a\u00f2na\u00f2yv<\/span><\/b>:<\/span>depressed in\nmind and circumstances, humble, lowly, poor<\/span>); he\nhath sent me to bind up (<\/span>L\u00e1—\u00e7˜\n-<\/span> <\/span>cha\u00f2bash<\/span><\/b>:<\/span>to wrap fully,\nto heal, to gather back together<\/span>)\u00a0 <\/span>the brokenhearted (<\/span>\u00f8\u00e1—L\u00dc -<\/span> <\/span>sha\u00f2bar<\/span><\/b>:<\/span>crushed,\nbroken in pieces, torn apart<\/span> -- + -- <\/span>\u00e1\u00ec\u00c5 -<\/span> <\/span>le\u00f2b<\/span><\/b>:[<\/span>the\nheart, metaphorically] feelings, the emotions, the will or intellect<\/span>), to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the\nprison to them that are<\/i> bound; 2<\/sup>To proclaim the acceptable\nyear of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our\u00a0 <\/span>God; to comfort (<\/span>\u00ed\u00e7—\u00f0ˆ - <\/span>na\u00f2cham<\/span><\/b>:<\/span>to breathe\nstrongly upon, to ease<\/span>) all that mourn; 3<\/sup>To\nappoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the\noil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;\nthat they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD,\nthat he might be glorified.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The way this is expressed in the Hebrew text has always\namazed me because it literally describes those whose mind, whose thoughts,\nfeelings and emotions have been shattered and ripped apart into pieces.\u00a0 <\/span>In other words, they\u2019ve been fragmented.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now, consider how God commands Ezekiel to prophesy against\nthe false prophets:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ezekiel 13:18-20 (NASB)<\/span><\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>17<\/span><\/sup>Now you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your\npeople who are prophesying from their own inspiration. Prophesy against them 18<\/sup>and\nsay, Thus says the Lord GOD, \u201cWoe to the women who sew magic<\/i> bands on\nall wrists and make veils for the heads of persons<\/i> of every stature to\nhunt down souls!\u00a0 <\/span>Will you hunt down the\nsouls of My people, but preserve the lives of others<\/i> for\nyourselves?\u00a0 <\/span>19<\/sup>For handfuls of\nbarley and fragments of bread, you have profaned Me to My people to put to\ndeath some who should not die and to keep others alive who should not live, by\nyour lying to My people who listen to lies.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

20<\/span><\/sup>Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, \u201cBehold, I am against your magic<\/i>\nbands by which you hunt souls there as birds and I will tear them from your\narms; and I will let them go, even those lives whom you hunt as birds. 21<\/sup>\u201cI\nwill also tear off your veils and deliver My people from your hands, and they\nwill no longer be in your hands to be hunted; and you will know that I am the\nLORD.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By this word, we can easily see that those who are in the\nrealm of the occult \u2013 those who practice witchcraft, divination, sorcery, use\nOuija boards, promote transcendental meditation, etc., become the tools of\nSatan themselves to rip apart the minds, the souls, the feelings and the\nemotions of those who fall prey to them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then we have the picture of \u201csoul restoration\u201d \u2013 putting it\nback together so that it is intact and whole \u2013 in the 23rd<\/sup> Psalm.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm\n23:2-3<\/span><\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>2<\/span><\/sup>He maketh<\/span>\nme to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth<\/span> me\nbeside the still waters. 3<\/sup>He restoreth<\/span>\nmy soul<\/u>: he leadeth<\/span> me in the paths of\nrighteousness for his name\u2019s sake.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nHebrew word translated \u201crestoreth<\/span>\u201d in this passage is\nthe word: <\/span>\u00e1eL - <\/span>shu\u00f2b<\/span><\/b>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>This is an important word and concept in the\nHebrew language.\u00a0 <\/span>It means: to bind back together, to restore to the starting point,\nto pull in again, to bring back home<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Everything\nthat the Enemy does to God\u2019s people is designed to break apart, to divide, to\ndestroy and to conquer.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By the\nsame token, everything that Jesus made available to us by his suffering, death\non the Cross, and His Resurrection is wholeness, completeness, soundness \u2013 in\nother words, restoration back to the original state in which God created Adam.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So\nlong as we have parts of ourselves that are not intact, we\u2019ve not been\nrestored.\u00a0 <\/span>In a non-restored state, we\nare still vulnerable to the Enemy.\u00a0 <\/span>We\nare specifically vulnerable to deception, and we provide open inroads for\ndemonic torment and activity in our lives.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis an area of activity that is prominent in society today, and that is\nfornication.\u00a0 <\/span>Writing to the Ekklesia<\/span> in Corinth, Paul describes what happens when\nfornication takes place:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nCorinthians 6:13-20<\/span><\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>13b<\/span><\/sup>Now the body is<\/i> not\nfor fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.\u00a0 <\/span>14<\/sup>And God hath both raised up the\nLord, and will also raise up us by his own power. 15<\/sup>Know ye not that\nyour bodies are the members of Christ?\u00a0\n<\/span>Shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them<\/i> the\nmembers of an harlot? God forbid. 16<\/sup>What?\u00a0 <\/span>Know ye not that he which is joined to an\nharlot is one body? For two, saith<\/span> he, shall be one\nflesh<\/u>.\u00a0 <\/span>17<\/sup>But he that is\njoined unto the Lord is one spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>18<\/sup>Flee\nfornication.\u00a0 <\/span>Every sin that a man doeth\nis without the body; but he that committeth<\/span>\nfornication sinneth<\/span> against his own body.\u00a0 <\/span>19<\/sup>What?\u00a0 <\/span>Know ye not that your body is the temple of\nthe Holy Ghost which is<\/i> in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not\nyour own?\u00a0 <\/span>20<\/sup>For ye are bought\nwith a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are\nGod\u2019s.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nGreek word that defines \u201cbody\u201d in this text is the word, soma<\/i><\/b>.\u00a0 <\/span>It is a word which defines <\/span>one, whole complete\nbeing, the body as a sound whole<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\ntwo people engage in sexual intercourse, they become one body.\u00a0 <\/span>At the same time, there is a sharing of their\nsoul (hence the world\u2019s concept of \u201csoul-mate\u201d), their thoughts, their minds,\ntheir wills, and their emotions.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

They\nliterally give a part of their soul, their thought-processes, their minds and\nthinking and their emotions one to another.\u00a0\n<\/span>Each party to the intercourse takes away from the sexual exchange a part\nof the other person.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\u2019s\nnot strange or unusual.\u00a0 <\/span>It happens to be\nthe way God designed things.\u00a0 <\/span>But sexual\nintercourse was specifically designed for the marriage relationship.\u00a0 <\/span>Consider what happened when God first took\nEve out of Adam.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Genesis 2:21-25<\/span><\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>21<\/span><\/sup>And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he\nslept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22<\/sup>And\nthe rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought\nher unto the man. 23<\/sup>And Adam said, This is<\/i> now bone of my\nbones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken\nout of Man. 24<\/sup>Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother,\nand shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25<\/sup>And\nthey were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nsee the process taking place, don\u2019t you?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\u2019s\nthe first thing God did to Adam?\u00a0 <\/span>He put\nhim into a deep sleep so that his mind\u00a0\n<\/span>-- his soul -- would not get in the way of what was about to take place.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

God\nthen takes a part of Adam out of him and forms Eve.\u00a0 <\/span>From this point forward, neither Adam nor Eve\nare complete without each other.\u00a0 <\/span>Eve\nshares a portion of Adam\u2019s soul and body, and Adam has a part of himself in\nher.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus,\nthe Law of Marriage came into being.\u00a0\n<\/span>Marriage takes a man and a woman and joins them together so that they\nbecome one new being \u2013 a whole being.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Their\nlives together from this point forward become a sharing of each other.\u00a0 <\/span>The woman takes on many of the\ncharacteristics and likenesses \u2013 a part of the very character and makeup \u2013 of\nher husband.\u00a0 <\/span>He, in turn, by virtue of\njoining with her shares her mind, her thoughts, her soul, her very being.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Over\nthe course of time, they become so much a part of each other (that\u2019s to say, in\na God-ordered and blessed relationship) that people associate the one with the\nother.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\ndeviant and aberrant form of this relationship comes in fornication and\nadultery.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nman or the woman who engages in a sexual relationship with a partner not their\nspouse shares a part of themselves with the other person.\u00a0 <\/span>There is a transfer that takes place which\nrenders each person \u2013 from that point forward \u2013 incomplete.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Their\nminds, their souls and their emotions have been \u201crended<\/span>\u201d\n\u2013 torn apart and shredded, even if it is only a little.\u00a0 <\/span>The point is that from this moment each\nperson is incomplete.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Worse,\nwhen the relationship between two people is adulterous, and it continues over a\nperiod of time, the other \u201cinjured\u201d spouse in the marriage is damaged because\nof the continuing relationship between the adulterous spouse and the wife or\nhusband; and soul fragmentation and transfers increase.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nmore that kind of exchange takes place, the more splintered and shredded each\nperson becomes; and when a man or woman has multiple sex partners \u2013\nparticularly in the case of both male and female prostitutes \u2013 the worse the\nsituation becomes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\ndealt with and ministered to a woman one time who had lost track of the number\nof sex partners she had been with.\u00a0\n<\/span>Nearing 30 years of age, she\u2019d never been married.\u00a0 <\/span>Literally, this woman was the epitome of the\nword, \u201cscatter-brained.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Her mind, her\nsoul and her emotions had been scattered amongst many men to the point where\nshe could not stay focused for any period of time on any task.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once\nshe received deliverance and began to renounce and repent of each relationship\nrestoration of her mind and her being took place.\u00a0 <\/span>At the time, I did not know to lead her\nthrough the \u201cdefragmentation\u201d of her mind, but the Holy Spirit took care of it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Within\nless than two years she grew and recovered and matured spiritually to the place\nthat the Lord brought to her His counterpart for her and we got to see her\nmarried and settled.\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord had\nrestored her soul.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis another kind of sexual intercourse that is even more devastating to the\nsoul, the mind and the emotions than simple (if there is such a thing!)\nfornication or adultery.\u00a0 <\/span>That is incest.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When a\nfather takes his daughter and uses her as a sex partner in the place of his\nwife, because it is so much a violation of the way God ordered relationships\nbetween man and woman, it has unimaginable destructive power.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nsame is true of a mother and son or a brother and sister.\u00a0 <\/span>(This is a side-note to this discussion, but\nyou can now appreciate the gravity of Ham\u2019s sin against his father, Noah, and\nwhy such a curse was pronounced on Canaan.)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nshattering of the mind and emotions \u2013 unless restoration takes place by the\nSpirit of the Lord \u2013 causes a lifetime of damage and torment to both people who\nare involved \u2013 both the perpetrator of the incest and the victim.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthen the spiritual consequences when spiritual adultery takes place.\u00a0 <\/span>Paul makes the statement that \u201cHe that is\njoined unto the Lord is one Spirit.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Because\nwe are first and foremost spirit-beings, the impact of spiritual adultery or\nfornication (and that\u2019s a subject we\u2019ll deal with in a different study) is even\nmore far-reaching.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We can\nuse as a quick example (for the sake of this study) involvement in religions \u2013\neven those that call themselves \u201cChristian.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nMormonism, the J.W.\u2019s, Scientology or Science of Mind for instance.\u00a0 <\/span>Then there\u2019s Buddhism, Confucianism, Hindu\nand Islam as extreme, and overtly demonic.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\nlet\u2019s take a look at something David wrote.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 7:1-5<\/span><\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>1<\/span><\/sup>O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them\nthat persecute me, and deliver me: 2<\/sup>Lest he tear my soul like a\nlion, rending it<\/i> in pieces, while there is<\/i> none to deliver.\u00a0 <\/span>3<\/sup>O LORD my God, if I have done\nthis; if there be iniquity in my hands;\u00a0 <\/span>4<\/sup>If\nI have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered\nhim that without cause is mine enemy:)\u00a0 <\/span>5<\/sup>Let\nthe enemy persecute my soul, and take it<\/i>; yea, let him tread down my\nlife upon the earth, and lay mine honour<\/span> in the dust.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nsee what David is driving at here.\u00a0 <\/span>He\ndescribes persecution as a cause of \u201crending\u201d one\u2019s soul.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nword \u201ctear\u201d in this instance is the Hebrew word <\/span>\u00f3\u00f8‡\u00e8 - <\/span>t\u00d6a\u00f2raph<\/span><\/b>;<\/span>\nand it means: to pluck off, to pull to pieces, to\nrip with doubt<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What is clear in David\u2019s prayer is\nthat the Enemy has a legal right to inflict doubt \u2013 and in the process, pull to\npieces the soul of the persecutor.\u00a0 <\/span>Thus,\nboth the persecutor and the persecuted become victims of soul fragmentation;\nand doubt is one of the results.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Two quick scriptures come to mind\nwhere doubt is concerned.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nKings 18:21<\/span><\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>21<\/span><\/sup>And\nElijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two\nopinions? \u00a0<\/span>If the LORD be<\/i> God,\nfollow him: but if Baal, then<\/i> follow him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nthere\u2019s James\u2019 epistle.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

James 1:5-8<\/span><\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>5<\/span><\/sup>If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth<\/span> to all men<\/i> liberally, and upbraideth<\/span>\nnot; and it shall be given him. 6<\/sup>But let him ask in faith, nothing\nwavering. For he that wavereth<\/span> is like a wave of the\nsea driven with the wind and tossed. 7<\/sup>For let not that man think\nthat he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8<\/sup>A double minded man\nis<\/i> unstable in all his ways<\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ll\nwrap up this part of this study with a look at something Peter wrote in which\nhe describes a condition that prevails in the unregenerate, unrepentant\nindividual.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

II\nPeter 2:10-15<\/span><\/u>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>10<\/span><\/span><\/sup>But\nchiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise\ngovernment. Presumptuous are they<\/i>, selfwilled<\/span>,\nthey are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. 11<\/sup>Whereas angels,\nwhich are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them\nbefore the Lord. 12<\/sup>But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be\ntaken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and\nshall utterly perish in their own corruption; 13<\/sup>And shall receive\nthe reward of unrighteousness, as<\/i> they that count it pleasure to riot in\nthe day time. Spots they are<\/i> and blemishes, sporting themselves with\ntheir own deceivings<\/span> while they feast with you; 14<\/sup>Having\neyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable\nsouls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children<\/u>:\n15<\/sup>Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following\nthe way of Balaam the son<\/i> of Bosor<\/span>, who loved\nthe wages of unrighteousness;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Peter makes clear that those whose lives are filled with\nuncleanness, who walk after the carnal thinking of the flesh, see their minds,\ntheir thoughts, their emotions and their understanding so ripped apart that (1)<\/b> they despise governing power and\nauthority of any kind, (2)<\/b> they\nthink nothing of speaking evil against leaders and accusing them falsely \u2013\nincluding speaking evil of God and angelic beings, (3) <\/b>they show their utter ignorance when they open their mouths to\nspeak, (4)<\/b> their eyes are full of\nadultery and fornication, (5) <\/b>they\u2019ve\nbeen so taken over by sin that they can\u2019t stop sinning even if they so desire, (6)<\/b> they are full of covetousness,\ngreed, and suffer with a poverty mentality, and (7)<\/b> their children are cursed with the need to bribe and be bribed\nin order to attain their own selfish goals.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This is perhaps an extreme picture, but it is a clear example of\na mind so shredded and splintered that normal thoughts and normal behavior are\ncompletely absent.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Is there hope for someone like this?\u00a0 <\/span>Is there redemption and healing for those so\ntaken into captivity by the Enemy?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This is a topic I have mostly avoided for the past 20-plus years, ever since I first heard it discussed.
