OUR COVENANT, Part 5<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

The topic of <\/span><\/b>kheseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> is one rarely covered in the body\nof Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>In my 77+ years, I\u2019ve only\nheard the topic discussed one time.\u00a0\n<\/span>Because this is part and parcel of all that is real Covenant, it is\ncritical that everyone really get a grasp on this.\u00a0 <\/span>It is important for us to understand Covenant\n\u2013 especially within the framework of God\u2019s economy, and what He is doing among\nHis people.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nLast week,\nwe began talking about a word that takes place within covenant:<\/span> <\/span>\u00e3\u00f1•\u00e7•<\/span><\/b> <\/span>kheseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>We noted that Gesenius<\/span>, in\nhis Hebrew-Chaldee<\/span> Lexicon explains the word like\nthis in its primary applications: to love with\nintense desire; to show oneself gracious; zeal (towards anyone); ardor;\nkindness; benevolence; the grace, favor and mercy of God; tender mercies; lovingkindness<\/span>.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

History\ntells us that folks who entered into covenant enjoyed a place of oneness and\nunity that almost defied explanation.\u00a0 First of all, the two primary\nparties to that covenant were revered and held in high esteem by all of the\nfamily members on both sides of the covenant.\u00a0 One did not enter lightly\ninto covenant, and the marks in each other's flesh denoting that covenant were\nheld sacred.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nparties to covenant literally became One Family!\u00a0 One ancient tradition\nwe've seen -- especially in Celtic and English history -- is where each family\ntook the other's name.\u00a0 Thus, for example, when David Edwards married\nMarie Smithson as a product of two families' covenant, the Edwards family\nbecame Smithson-Edwards or Edwards-Smithson, depending on who initiated the\ncovenant.\u00a0 Likewise, the Smithson family became Smithson-Edwards, or\nEdwards-Smithson.\u00a0 By this tradition, the families and their descendants\nbecame forever linked together as a single family.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In our own\nCapener<\/span> family, a number of years ago when my father\nwas still alive, he received a letter from a Ralph Capener<\/span>-Hurst.\u00a0\nDad responded and asked Ralph about the hyphenated name, expressing curiosity\nas to whether Ralph might be a relative somewhere in our family lineage.\u00a0\nReturn correspondence from Ralph indicated that one of his Capener<\/span>\nancestors covenanted with a family whose last name was Hurst.\u00a0 Their\ncovenant, and the subsequent marriage between members of each family resulted\nin the two families taking the combined name, Capener<\/span>-Hurst.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus all\nmembers of that particular branch of the Capener<\/span>\nfamily, and all members of that particular branch of the Hurst family became\nknown thereafter as Capener<\/span>-Hurst.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We often\nsee hyphenated names in English royalty, but few people seem to realize that\nthose hyphenated names represented covenants of blood that were cut between\nsome of the royal families of England and Europe.\u00a0 It is an aspect of<\/span> <\/span>\u00e3\u00f1•\u00e7•<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>kheseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span>denoting grace, kindness, favor and\nbenevolence between covenanted families.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In previous\nCoffee Breaks, I've talked about the significance of the Greek word, onoma<\/span><\/i><\/span>,<\/span> (translated \"name\" in the New\nTestament) and how it goes way beyond the concept of one's name in\nmeaning.\u00a0 Paralleling the Hebrew,<\/span> <\/span>\u00edL\u00d9<\/span> <\/span>shem<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span> it denotes one's\ncharacter and very makeup, their personality, their identity, their rank and\npower, their honor, integrity and authority.\u00a0 Thus, the taking of each\nother's name within the framework of covenant symbolized their taking of each\nother's character, rank and honor and backing it with each other's integrity.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Yesterday\nI said that<\/span>\n<\/span>\u00e3\u00f1•\u00e7•<\/span><\/b> kheseed<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/i>is the core of covenant.\u00a0\nToday, we add<\/span>\n<\/span>\u00edL\u00d9<\/span><\/b> shem<\/i><\/span>.<\/i><\/span><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>Now you begin to\nunderstand the very covenant nature of what Jesus said when He told His\ncovenanted disciples, <\/span>\"All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.\u00a0\nGo ye, therefore, and teach all nations, immersing them in the character,\nthe nature, the makeup, the rank and authority<\/u> of the Father, and of the\nSon, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I\nhave commanded you.....\"<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>(Matthew 28:18-20 with my emphasis)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus'\nblood flows in our veins as a result of His new covenant with us.\u00a0 That's\nthe implication of our taking communion.\u00a0 Instead of halving in two the\nbodies of heifers, lambs and partaking of their roasted flesh in an earthly\ncovenant, we partake of the broken body of the Lord Jesus Christ in the symbol\nof the bread.\u00a0 Instead of drinking blood mingled with wine, we simply\ndrink wine -- because of Jesus' command to us -- (Yeah, I know.\u00a0 Some\nfolks have a religious thing about drinking grape juice instead, but it's still\nall the same thing!) as representative of His shed blood.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In so\ndoing, we regularly remember His covenant of blood, and the sacrifice He paid\nwhen His body was broken and put to death on the Cross that we might enter into\nan eternal covenant bound by His Word which NEVER fails and is inviolable, and\nimplemented in our lives by a living faith.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now you're\nbeginning to understand my early comments about how the whole concept of\ncovenant has been so diluted and watered down throughout the centuries that\nwe've lost the true sense of it?\u00a0 Now maybe you can begin to get a grasp\non the New Testament (Covenant) and the use of the word,<\/span> agape<\/span><\/i>,<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/span>(in place of the\nHebrew<\/span> <\/span><\/a>\u00e3\u00f1•\u00e7•<\/span><\/b><\/span> <\/span><\/b><\/span>kheseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>as the descriptor\nby which the Lord commands relationship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Put that\nwithin Jesus' statement, <\/span>\"By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if\nyou have (love)<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>agape-kheseed<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/i><\/b>for\none another.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Make\nsense?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nwasn't talking about some kind of \"sloppy agape,\" or some kind of\nmushy-gushy \"Oh, I love you,\" kind of malarkey like we see so often\nin the body of Christ today.\u00a0 He was talking about covenant!\u00a0 He was\ntalking about standing with each other to the death!\u00a0 He was talking about\nour putting our lives on the line for one another as fellow-Christians and\nmembers of that body He took to the Cross!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By THAT\nshall all men know we are His disciples.\u00a0 By<\/span> <\/span>agape-kheseed<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/i><\/b>will the world know\nthat we have a relationship that defies the understanding of today's world!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Remember\nwhat Paul wrote?\u00a0 <\/span>\"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall\ntribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or\nsword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day\nlong<\/span>; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.\u00a0 Nay, in all\nthese things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cFor I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels,\nnor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor\nheight, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from\nthe love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.\"\u00a0 <\/span>(Romans 8:35-39)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That's a\nstatement made from the perspective of covenant.\u00a0 That is a perfect visual\nof<\/span> <\/span>\u00e3\u00f1•\u00e7•<\/span><\/b> kheseed<\/i><\/span>.<\/i><\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK.\u00a0\nHow about this from David's writings?\u00a0 <\/span>\"He that dwelleth<\/span> in the secret place of the Most High shall abide\nunder the shadow of the Almighty.\"<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>(see Psalm 91)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

THAT's\ncovenant writing!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\"I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress:\nmy God; in him will I trust.\u00a0 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare\nof the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.\u00a0 He shall cover thee with\nhis feathers, and under his wings shalt<\/span> thou trust:\nhis truth shall be thy shield and buckler.\u00a0 Thou shalt<\/span>\nnot be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth<\/span> by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh<\/span> in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth<\/span> at noonday.\u00a0 A thousand shall fall at thy\nside, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh\nthee.\u00a0 Only with thine<\/span> eyes shalt<\/span>\nthou behold and see the reward of the wicked.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David KNEW\nthe implications of His covenant relationship with God.\u00a0 He KNEW what <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00e3\u00f1•\u00e7•<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>kheseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> meant as it\nrelated to the Lord.\u00a0 He KNEW the tender mercies and lovingkindness<\/span>\nof the Lord.\u00a0 He KNEW what it meant to be protected and covered by a\ncovenant-keeping God whose existence was wrapped up in his.\u00a0 He KNEW the\nlove of the Lord in a dimension that -- sadly -- too many Christians today fail\nto see.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Watch how\nDavid describes the covering and protection, the zeal of the Lord on his\nbehalf.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\"Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even\nthe Most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall\nany plague come nigh thy dwelling.\u00a0 For he shall give his angels charge\nover thee<\/span>, to keep thee in all thy ways.\u00a0 They\nshall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a\nstone.\u00a0 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cThou shalt<\/span> tread upon the lion and\nadder: the young lion and the dragon shalt<\/span> thou\ntrample under feet.\u00a0 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will\nI deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.\u00a0 He\nshall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I\nwill deliver him, and honour<\/span> him.\u00a0 With long\nlife will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Go back\nfor a second to our review of Abraham and the Lord, and the covenant that God\nmade with him.\u00a0 Remember the \"smoking furnace\" and the\n\"burning lamp\" that depicted the physical presence of the Lord as He\npassed between the broken pieces of the animals?\u00a0 Remember the analogy of\nthe smoke and the cloud as the covering and protection of the Lord as a portion\nof His part of the covenant to Abraham?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Good.\u00a0\nNow you understand where David was coming from when he wrote this Psalm.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Everything\n-- and I do mean EVERYTHING! -- written in both Old and New Testaments comes\nfrom the perspective of the blood covenant.\u00a0 Maybe next week we'll be able\nto finish up (I think) this look at the character and nature of covenant as it\nis spelled out in the New Testament before we begin to take up the singular\nnature of the American Covenant.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Meanwhile,\nlet's have a look at some of the things that Jesus said, now that we have an\nunderstanding to help us properly frame the implications of agape<\/span><\/i><\/b>\nand<\/span> <\/span>\u00e3\u00f1•\u00e7•<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>kheseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span>within the covenant He made with\n\"whosoever will.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

First of\nall, remember what Paul wrote in his letter to the Ekklesia<\/i><\/span>\nin Ephesus?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\"For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord\nJesus Christ, of whom the whole<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>patria<\/span><\/u><\/i><\/b> - lineage<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span>(family) in heaven\nand earth is named; that He would grant you, according to the riches of His\nglory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; that\nChrist may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in<\/span> <\/span>agape-kheseed<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/i>(love), may be\nable to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth,\nand to know the<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>agape-kheseed<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/i>(love) of Christ, which passeth<\/span>\nknowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Remember our\nearlier discussion on those hyphenated names, and the implications of taking on\neach other's onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> as a product of covenant?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now do you\nsee what Paul is writing?\u00a0 This is a perfect description of the covenant\nwe enter into with the Lord Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Nothing could be clearer.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\"...of whom the whole<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>patria<\/span><\/u><\/i><\/b> - lineage<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span>(family) in heaven\nand earth is named...\"\u00a0 <\/span>Once we become covenant-partners of the\nLord Jesus Christ, we take on His name and lineage.\u00a0 Thus we are of the\nseed of Abraham -- by faith!\u00a0 It is impossible for that faith to work\nwithout agape<\/span><\/i><\/b>.\u00a0 We don't just take on \"a name\" as\nChristians: we take on the onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/span>the <\/span>\u00edL\u00d9<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>shem<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span>of the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

(Perhaps I\nshould state parenthetically, that we are SUPPOSED to take on His onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.\u00a0 With that onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\ncomes His power over sickness, His power over death, His authority and power\nover Satan, his demons, and all his works.\u00a0 With that onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\ncomes being seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus.)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This is\nwhy we see so many powerless, weak-kneed, namby-pamby, Caesar-Milquetoast\n(so-called) Christians in the world today.\u00a0 They have \"a name\"\nthat they are Christians, but they both deny, AND LACK, the power to\ndemonstrate and back up their claim to being a Christian.\u00a0 They say their\nlives have been changed, but for many of them, that change is a fraud.\u00a0\nThe reason why they lack the power and authority of the Lord Jesus Christ is\nbecause they've taken their \"relationship\" with Him only as far as\n\"salvation.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Get\nit?\u00a0 There is no covenant!\u00a0 They haven't entered into the covenant\nwith the Lord -- a covenant of blood that gives the Lord literally all that\nthey are, all that they ever hope to be, and all that they have -- including\ntheir pocketbooks.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ooooops<\/span><\/span>!!!!\u00a0 Now I'm\nmeddling.\u00a0 Hehehehehehe<\/span>........<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Guess I\u2019ll\nleave it here for today.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m concerned\nthat if I finish this part of the discussion on Covenant today, we will run so\nlong that people will not be able to focus properly.\u00a0 <\/span>This is a critical part of Covenant and I\nwant to make sure that everyone really gets it!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
