OUR COVENANT, Part 8<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

We still have some territory to\ncover before we can get to the Covenant that our early forefathers made with\nthe Lord for the founding of America.\u00a0\n<\/span>Without wasting any time\u2026.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

We have a\nbetter covenant than Israel had.\u00a0 Israel's covenant required the constant\nshedding of blood, and the consequences of their failure to make sacrifice and\nre-enact the covenant of blood on a daily basis hung over them like the\n\"sword of Damocles.\"\u00a0 Jesus fulfilled that once and for all on\nour behalf; and the only necessity we have is to believe His Word implicitly\nand act on it in faith.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Our\ncovenant with the Lord enables \"all the fullness of God\" to be\noperational in every single one of us -- not just some special few like apostles,\nprophets, evangelists, pastors or teachers.\u00a0 Every single one of us!\u00a0\nEvery single one of us!\u00a0 Every single one of us!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I repeat\nit over and over and over and over and over again everywhere the Lord sends me,\nto everyone that will hear the Word of the Lord.\u00a0 Because the concept of\ncovenant is so missing in our society today, and teachers within the body of\nChrist have failed to both grasp it for themselves as well as teach covenant,\nan overwhelming majority of Christians live their lives as \"believers\"\nso far beneath their stations in Christ as to create a horrible and weak image\nof Him to the world today.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nChristians are fed today as \"salvation\" is a miserable image of what\nit means to \"be saved.\"\u00a0 Preachers stand behind their pulpits\nand preach a \"come to Jesus\" message.\u00a0 That message includes\n\"the Cross\" and the \"shed blood of Jesus\" on the Cross on\nour behalf.\u00a0 Unfortunately, without the understanding of the covenant that\nsent Jesus to the Cross in the first place and the new covenant and testament\nHe made available \"to those who believe,\" folks are left with\nvirtually no understanding or faith to believe that \"<\/span>all\nthe fullness of God<\/span>\"\nis their rightful heritage under this new covenant.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\"Salvation\"\nbecomes an emasculated experience, devoid of the power and authority of the\nLord Jesus Christ working in them to conform them to the image and likeness of\nChrist, and minus any visual image within themselves of the \"riches of His\nGlory.\"\u00a0 It is the New Covenant, the New Testament working in us with\nagape-kheseed<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>that drives, that compels,\nthat empowers us to heal the sick, to raise the dead, the cleanse the lepers,\nto cast out demons: to show the world that Jesus Christ IS our covenant\npartner.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It is the\nNew Covenant that empowers, makes operational, and puts in place the life of\nChrist in a practical dimension in our lives.\u00a0 It is the New Covenant that\nchanges our speech and enables the confession which enacts that covenant and\nplaces it legally in force.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Brother!\u00a0\nWould I ever like to take off on that point alone!\u00a0 Trouble is, it would\ntake me down a path I don't have time for in this particular discussion.\u00a0\nThat will have to wait for some other day and some other discussion.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Earlier, I\nmade the statement that our covenant with the Lord enables <\/span>\"all\nthe fullness of God\"<\/span>\nto be operational in every single one of us -- not just some special few like\napostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors or teachers.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This is a\ntruth that is fundamental to our relationship with Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Once\nagain, one of the primary concepts of covenant is the giving of all that we\nare, all that we have, and all that we ever expect to become to our covenant\npartner.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It is a\nsad and sorry truth that far too many Christians relegate their relationship\nwith Jesus Christ to \"being saved.\"\u00a0 They think that if they\nrepent of their sins, ask Jesus Christ to \"come into their hearts\"\n(this is a religious clich\u00e9), and get water-baptized, they are\n\"saved.\"\u00a0 OK.\u00a0 Saved from what?\u00a0 Hell?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Sure.\u00a0\nBut it goes so much farther than that!\u00a0 Being \"saved\" has become\na trite religious phrase, devoid of its covenant roots.\u00a0 Being\n\"saved\" in today's terminology is scarcely anything more than getting\none's \"fire insurance.\"\u00a0 There is little evidence outwardly to\nsupport their claim to a relationship with Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The apostle Paul\nlays a clear foundation for our covenant with the Lord as he opens his letter\nto the Ekklesia<\/span> in Ephesus, <\/span>Blessed, Honored and Highly Favored\nis the God and Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, who has spoken favor and\nprosperity over us from and through the multiple dimensions of the Holy Spirit\nin the Heavenlies<\/span>;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Inasmuch as He has selected us to be\nin Him (and in His family) even before the founding, the conception, and the\ndeposition of the world, that we should be pure, blameless, consecrated and\nwithout blemish in His sight through His immeasurable love;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Having predetermined and planned in\nadvance our adoption and placement as mature and fully-grown sons by Jesus\nChrist to and for himself according to the satisfaction and delight of his\npurpose.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

To the place where we would bring\npraise and laudation to the splendor, preeminence and brightness of his grace\n(that empowerment He provides to accomplish His will and desire) by which He\npositioned us to be honored by, through and with His immeasurable love.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In whom we have full deliverance,\nriddance (of the past) and healing through His shed blood\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>, the total eradication (as though it had\nnever happened) of our sins, our trespasses, our missing the mark, through the\nabounding wealth of His being gratified;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wherein and by which He has\nsuper-abounded and excelled toward us in all wisdom and insight<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Having declared and certified to us\nthose previously hidden secrets and purposes of His will and desires according\nto the covenanted kindness and desires which he predetermined and exhibited in\nHimself;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That in the administration of the\ncompletion of the ages, He might sum up all in Jesus Christ, both of which are\nin Heaven and on earth and finish them in Him!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In whom also we have an assigned\nprivilege and inheritance having been planned for and prepared in advance\naccording to the proposal and intention of Him who energizes all after the\nvolition and advice of His will and desire;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That we should become the means by\nwhich He receives praise and honor of His magnificence and splendor, those who\nsaw and hoped in advance, trusting in the anointing of the Anointed One, Jesus\nChrist;\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(Ephesians 1:3-12, RAC Translation\n& Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Whewww<\/span><\/span>!!!\u00a0 What a\nmouthful!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do you see\nthe framework of this covenant?\u00a0 Let's see if we can spell it out.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

1.<\/span><\/b>\n<\/span>\"He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the\nworld.\"\u00a0 <\/span>Understand?\u00a0\nHe picked us before we ever responded to Him.\u00a0\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2.<\/span><\/b>\nIt was the motivating and driving force behind all of creation that the Lord\nJesus Christ should have a people who would <\/span>\"be holy and\nwithout blame before Him in agape<\/i>.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3. <\/span><\/b>He\n<\/span>\"predestinated us<\/span> <\/span>(that's an English\nword that poorly translates the Greek, prooridzo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,\nwhich means: to mark in advance, to set advance limits, to ordain) <\/span>unto\nthe adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good\npleasure of His will.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

4. <\/span><\/b>His\nobjective was to make <\/span>\"us accepted in the beloved<\/span> <\/span>(agapao<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>)<\/span>.\"<\/span>\u00a0 That's a\npoetic phrase that describes our being incorporated into the agape relationship\nthat preexisted between the Father and the Son as part of their unity and\nfamily.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

5. <\/span><\/b>It\nis through Jesus Christ that <\/span>\"we have redemption<\/span> <\/span>(a covenant phrase)\n<\/span>through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the\nriches of His grace.\"<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>That redemption <\/span>\"through\nHis blood\"<\/span>\nis that which comes through the giving us of His covering, His cloak -- so to\nspeak.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A side\nnote is in order here.\u00a0 When a covenant of blood was cut between two\nparties, and they exchanged their cloaks, any previous transgressions or offenses\nwere blotted out between them.\u00a0 The two parties regarded each other as\nco-equal to themselves.\u00a0 From that moment forward, any transgression that\nmight occur between them -- so long as it did not violate their covenant with\neach other -- was forgiven and disregarded.\u00a0 If the transgression,\naccidental or deliberate, took place between one of the covenant partners and\nsome outside person or entity, the other covenant partner stood good for it,\nand defended his covenant partner -- if necessary, to the death.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now, does\nthat help you understand Paul's descriptive phrase, \"we have redemption\nthrough His blood\"?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

6. <\/span><\/b>Within\nthis covenant, He makes available to us in abundance, \"all wisdom and\nprudence<\/u>\" (that's an archaic English word that describes\n\"insight\") in order to reveal and explain His \"will\" (thelema<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>heart's desire) according to His great\npleasure which \"He hath purposed in Himself.\"\u00a0 His long-term\ngoal and purpose in revealing His heart's desire is to show us His\nadministration to come in \"the fullness of times\" (at the end of the\nages) as He gathers together all in Heaven and all (of us) in Earth, displaying\nthe handiwork of His purposes and the unfolding of His orchestration of events\nthroughout time to bring a people to Himself.\u00a0 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wow!\u00a0\nThat was a mouthful!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

7.<\/span><\/b>\nHe has ordained us to participate in and share His inheritance -- to become\nheirs and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ, along with all that Jesus has,\nreceives, and will receive.\u00a0 Here again is another statement I'd sure like\nto take off with, but it would sidetrack us from this discussion.\u00a0 Guess\nthis one will wait for another future date, too.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

8.<\/span><\/b>\n<\/span><\/i><\/b>He\n(prooridzo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>) ordained us <\/span>\"according\nto the purpose of Him who worketh<\/span> all things after\nthe counsel of His own will\"<\/span> so that<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

9. <\/span><\/b>We\nwould <\/span>\"be to the praise of His glory:\"<\/span> <\/span>that is, those who\nbeforehand have trusted, believed in, relied on, and exercised the faith of\nJesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

10.<\/span><\/b>\nOnce we exercise the faith of Jesus Christ and implicitly trust, believe in and\nrely upon Him, we are marked with a seal, a stamp of His approval by the Holy\nSpirit, and given a pledge or security (this is akin to the mark in our flesh\ndenoting the covenant) which sets us apart from non-covenant people for the\nfinal day of redemption.\u00a0 <\/span>Redemption incorporates salvation.\u00a0 Salvation is a\nproduct of covenant and brings with it covenant responsibility.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By the\nsame token, the seal in our spirit by the Holy Spirit brings an outer mark -- a\nvisible manifestation -- by which the non-covenant world may know that we are\ncovenanted partners and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ.\u00a0 In the same way\nthat Abraham received a mark in his flesh which could have been perceived as an\nembarrassment -- and one, I suspect, he was loathe to share with others because\nof its intimate nature -- we have a mark in our flesh that, for many, is\nregarded as an embarrassment.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That mark\nin our flesh is the mark that comes when we are filled with the Spirit.\u00a0\nLuke described it in Acts 2 as, <\/span>\"they were all\nfilled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit\ngave them utterance.\"<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>This IS a distinguishing mark that\nsets us apart.\u00a0\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do you\nremember what happened at the Tower of Babel?\u00a0 When Nimrod spurred a\nrebellion in which men attempted to build a tower that would raise them up to\nbe on God's level?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Prior to\nthis event, the whole earth was of one tongue and one language.\u00a0 Nimrod's\nrebellion against God and the arrogant idolatry he led people into caused the\nLord to divide the people and scatter them abroad by changing their ability to\nspeak one language.\u00a0 Whereas before this event took place, angelic beings\n(the KJV describes them as \"the sons of God\") came down and\ncommunicated with men and men communicated with angels, and men had the ability\nto speak \"with tongues of angels\" (I'm paraphrasing this from Paul's\nquotation in I Corinthians 13), the human race lost the ability to communicate\nback and forth easily and to make rebellious compacts among themselves.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The Day of\nPentecost returned to those who were covenanted with Jesus Christ the ability\nto \"speak with the tongues of men and of angels.\"\u00a0 It was\nwitnessed on the Day of Pentecost by seventeen different nationalities and\npeoples who each heard those who were filled with the Holy Spirit speaking in\ntheir own languages.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus the\nNew Covenant bridged the gap that had existed between men and God, and men and\nmen, enabling those who were filled to declare the works of God in languages\nthey did not learn naturally, and could not speak in except as the Holy Spirit\ntook their tongues and spoke through them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Never\nbefore in history, since the scattering at Babel, had men been able to\ncommunicate across languages and tongues without careful study of the new\nlanguage(s) they wished to learn and speak.\u00a0 From the moment of being\nfilled with the Holy Spirit onward, those so filled have borne this mark in\ntheir flesh.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a singular mark, a\ndistinguishing mark.\u00a0 It marked those who gave their cloaks\n(metaphorically speaking) to the Lord as they joined in His covenant.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let me\ndigress for a minute.\u00a0 I've heard people say, \"If the Lord wants me\nto speak in tongues, He'll give them to me.\"\u00a0 That is a cheap,\narrogant cop-out for people who are unwilling to yield their tongues to the\ncontrol of the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 It signifies individuals and people who are\nunwilling to give up their cloaks within the framework of our covenant\nrelationship with Jesus Christ.\u00a0 They elect to withhold that last vestige\nof control over their lives from the Lord, thereby refusing their full covenant\nresponsibility.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It isn't\nthe speaking in tongues that enacts the covenant: it is the complete yielding\nof every vestige of self-control to the Lord.\u00a0 Speaking in tongues is\nsimply the evidence, the outward manifestation of that yielding of their cloak\nand expressing their complete willingness to fulfill their responsibility\nwithin the covenant.\u00a0 Minus that yielding, no \"believer\" in\nChrist EVER gets to participate in the full benefit of our covenant\nrelationship in Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If we\nwithhold control of our tongues from the Lord, we deprive Him of the liberty to\nspeak through us at His will.\u00a0 If we refuse to allow the Holy Spirit to\nspeak through us as He wills, when He wills, and where He wills, we lose access\nto the stupendous covenant benefits available to us, in us, and through us by\nthe Holy Spirit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wow!\u00a0\nI didn't intend to go there today.\u00a0 It just sort of happened as a natural\nprogression of sharing.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Covenant\nis not just a bunch of benefits.\u00a0 Covenant involves a \"Katy, bar the\ndoor,\" pull out all the stops, full-speed-ahead responsibility in our\nresponses to the Lord, who has likewise pulled out all the stops on our behalf.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I thought\nI was going to get to the full picture of being co-equal with Jesus Christ\ntoday, but it'll have to wait for next week.\u00a0 What I'm trying to do is to\nlay the foundations in your understanding so that you have a complete picture\nof just how great and how significant our covenant in and with the Lord is, and\nto help you see what lies ahead as the Lord brings us ever closer to the day of\nfinal redemption.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
