OUR COVENANT, Part 9<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Our unity with the Lord Jesus Christ\nis something that Jesus determined from before the foundations of the\nearth.\u00a0 <\/span>Stop and think about it!\u00a0 <\/span>We are told that Jesus \u201cwas the Lamb slain\nbefore the foundations of the earth.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Why?<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Because He, Father and Holy Spirit\nknew the end from the beginning.\u00a0 <\/span>Adam\u2019s\nfall did not take them by surprise.\u00a0 <\/span>A\nplan had been set in motion before time began.\u00a0\n<\/span>That plan was to have a family that would be the exact counterparts of\nthe Lord \u2013 the Godhead, if you will.\u00a0\n<\/span>That plan was to have a species of being who would be able to fellowship\nwith the Lord on His level.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

In order for that to take place,\nthere had to be an unfolding and a preparation of this species of being that\nwould prepare them to be One with Father, Son and Holy Spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>Hence my statements in the past that the\nearth was created as a kind of laboratory in which to grow up a people with\nwhom the Lord could be joined \u2013 a people who would be His Counterpart, His\nOther Self.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Thus, all the adventures that we\nexperience in the Lord are designed to develop the character and nature \u2013 the\nvery essence \u2013 of Who Jesus Christ is.\u00a0\n<\/span>In other words, we are being changed, transformed, renewed in such a way\nthat His <\/span><\/b>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b> is our <\/span><\/b>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/a><\/span>!<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Understand?<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Picking up\nwhere we left off last week and repeating one of the statements I've been\nmaking, one of the primary concepts of covenant is the giving of all that we\nare, all that we have, and all that we ever expect to become to our covenant\npartner.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once\nagain, Covenant is not just a bunch of benefits.\u00a0 Covenant involves a\n\"Katy, bar the door,\" pull out all the stops, full-speed-ahead\nresponsibility in our responses to the Lord, who has likewise pulled out all\nthe stops on our behalf.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If Jesus\nChrist is going to get His benefits from the covenant, He has made with us and\non our behalf, we MUST become His co-equal partners.\u00a0 I keep saying this,\nand it is at the center of all covenants: those who enter into covenant regard\neach other as co-equal.\u00a0\u00a0 Covenant shores up our weaknesses.\u00a0 I\nknow some folks have a struggle with the idea that Jesus has any weaknesses --\nand from our perspective, He absolutely does not.\u00a0 From Jesus' viewpoint,\nhowever, until we have been transformed and conformed to His image and\nlikeness, He is incomplete, lacking, and minus His counterpart, His other self.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This is\nwhere I want to take today's discussion and show you the concept -- from Jesus'\nperspective -- of His being made complete in us.\u00a0 That, my friends, is\nwhat being co-equal is all about.\u00a0 That is what THIS covenant was ordained\nfor.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take a\nlook a<\/span> something that Paul writes in his epistle to\nthe Romans.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\"For those whom\nHe [the Father] could foresee and know [their choices and decisions]\nbeforehand, He also did ordain and determine to become jointly formed and\nfashioned into the image and likeness of His Son, so that He might be first\nbegotten son among a multitude of brothers and sisters.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cFurthermore, those\nwhom He ordained and determined [by virtue of knowing in advance their choices\nand decisions] He also called, beckoning them in their inner beings; and those\nwhom He called, He also determined and declared to be innocent [rendering\njudgment of them beforehand]; and those whom He determined and declared to be\ninnocent, He made glorious [magnifying them as He magnified His Son].<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cWhat shall we say,\nthen, regarding these facts?\u00a0 If God the Father be for us, having made\nthese determinations on our behalf, who can possibly succeed in opposing and\nwithstanding us?\"<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>(Romans 8:29-31, RAC\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now are\nyou beginning to get the picture?\u00a0 Do you see where we stand with the\nFather?\u00a0 Do you see where we stand with Jesus Christ?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

God the\nFather has determined to have for Himself a family.\u00a0 He -- in concert with\nJesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit -- made this determination before\nCreation ever unfolded.\u00a0 If you take the concept of family, you understand\nthat you WILL have an older brother who is the firstborn.\u00a0 But that older\nbrother is going to have younger brothers and sisters; and those brothers and\nsisters have all the same rights of inheritance and access to the resources and\nassets of the family that the older brother has access to.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The older\nbrother's position gives him some rights of determination and delegative\nauthority on behalf of the younger family members, but positionally he is\ntreated as co-equal with his brothers and sisters.\u00a0 All of the siblings\nhave equal access to, and use of the family resources, along with the family's\nauthority and power by virtue of their extreme wealth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Put that\nin context, now, to Jesus Christ as our older brother.\u00a0 Consider His\nstatement to the disciples as He prepared to leave them: <\/i><\/b><\/span><\/span>\"All <\/span>(exousia<\/span><\/i><\/b>) <\/span><\/i><\/b>privilege, force, authority, power\nand jurisdiction is given unto me in Heaven and in earth.\u00a0 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You go, therefore, [by\nvirtue of your relationship to and with me] and disciple, instruct and teach\nall nations, tribes and ethnic groups and peoples, immersing them in the<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b>)<\/span> character, the makeup, the power and authority -- the very\nessence -- of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them\nto observe, guard and protect all that I have charged you with [in every\nrespect, without compromise or redaction]; <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And take notice of the\nfact that<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(eimi<\/span><\/i><\/b>) <\/span>[all that] I am [have been, and ever will be -- the\ntotality of my existence] with you, even unto the final and total completion of\nthis age.\u00a0 So be it!\"<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>(Matthew\n28:18-20, RAC Translation & Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus,\ntherefore, was commissioning His disciples to go forth in, with, and through\nALL of the power and authority that He had -- and Brother, was that ever SOME\npower and authority!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Look at\nwhat Mark records concerning this same event.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\"[All of] you go\ninto every area and segment of the world and proclaim, herald, declare and\npreach the good news [that I have given you] to every single creature.\u00a0 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He that believes,\nimplicitly trusts in, exercises faith, and is immersed [in the character, makeup\nand essence of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit]] shall be saved,\nhealed, delivered, preserved, caused to prosper, and made completely whole; but\nhe who disbelieves [refusing to trust in and exercise faith] shall receive\nsentence and judgment [according to the Law].<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\"And these<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(semeion<\/span><\/i><\/b>) <\/span>distinguishing signs, evidences,\nwonders and proofs [of my commission to you, and your relationship to and with\nme] shall accompany and closely follow you: In my<\/span> (onoma) <\/span><\/i><\/b>character, makeup, power and\nauthority -- the very essence of who I am -- they shall cast out demons (evil\nspirits); they shall speak with fresh new [and previously unlearned] languages\nand tongues; <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

They shall take on\n(serpents) artful, cunning and malicious persons whose arguments cannot and\nwill not dissuade; should they drink or partake of any deadly, poisonous thing,\nit shall not hurt or injure them in any way; they shall lay hands on the sick,\nthe infirm, those who are weak and without strength; and they shall recover,\nmend, and see their infirmities cease.\"<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>(Mark 16:15-18, RAC Translation & Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

No promise\nor prophecy of the Lord could better describe our co-equal status.\u00a0 These\nare the distinguishing signs and evidences that followed and accompanied\nJesus.\u00a0 Fully one-third of all the miracles that Jesus performed as\nrecorded in the Gospels incorporate the casting out of demons, as Jesus\nexercised the authority that was His to exercise.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nremaining two-thirds of His recorded miracles include the raising of the dead,\nhealing of the sick and infirm, cleansing the lepers, commanding the weather,\ncommanding plant-life such as trees, walking through walls, disappearing in the\nmidst of crowds, taking on the<\/b> Serpent following his 40-day fast, along\nwith other (serpents) artful, cunning and malicious Scribes and Pharisees whose\nlegalistic and twisted demonic arguments from Scripture could not and would not\ndissuade Him, and -- surprise, surprise! -- remitting the sins of people even\nbefore He had gone to the Cross.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I've\nalways been a bit amused at folks who think that Jesus was advocating the\nhandling of snakes.\u00a0 EVERYTHING He prophesied of and to \"them that\nbelieve\" was a demonstration of exactly what He had accomplished and\nfulfilled during His three-and-a-half years.\u00a0 Jesus never handled snakes,\nbut He DID take on serpents -- regularly!\u00a0 He referred to the Scribes,\nPharisees and Sadducees on more than one occasion as a <\/span>\"generation of\nvipers,\" <\/span>meaning\nof course that their lives, their motivations and their speech were artfully\ncrafted to manipulate people and lead them into further legalistic bondage,\naway from the relationship with God purposed from the beginning.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Everything,\ntherefore, that Jesus promised to and prophesied of His followers was something\nthey had a proof text for in His life and ministry.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I know\nthat some folks have tried to become so technically picky (legalistically\nartful and manipulative) with the Scripture as to suggest that these\n\"signs\" and evidentiary proofs of the <\/span><\/span>\"Lord working with\nthem and confirming the Word with signs following\"<\/span> <\/span>(Mark 16:20)\napplied ONLY to the apostles and disappeared shortly after the turn of the\ncentury.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

These same\ndoubters and unbelievers promote the idea that apostles and prophets died out\nin that same time frame, and that Paul's statements in I Corinthians and\nEphesians are to be ignored because the body of Christ has already <\/span><\/span>\"come to the unity of the faith,\"<\/span> <\/span>having been\nperfected at the Cross.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It really\nis one of the looniest doctrines I've ever heard.\u00a0 It defies any rationale\nconcerning Paul's preaching on apostles and prophets roughly 30 years after\nJesus ascended, and forces one to dismiss whole portions of God's Word if they\nare to believe such nonsense.\u00a0 Those who \"artfully craft\" and\n\"maliciously use\" God's Word so as to seduce believers and keep them\nfrom their full covenant benefits are nothing more than a modern\n\"generation of vipers.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If we\nare seated with Christ<\/u><\/b> in heavenly places -- as Paul writes in\nEphesians 1:20-23, <\/span>\"Far\nabove all principality, and power, and might and dominion, and every name<\/span> <\/span>(onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b>)\n<\/span>that is\nnamed, not only in this world but that which is to come: and hath put all\nthings under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the\nEkklesia (not church) -- that called out and betrothed company of people by the\nBridegroom -- which is His body, the fullness of Him that filleth all in\nall,\"<\/span> <\/span>then\nwe most certainly ARE co-equal with Jesus Christ!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When have\nyou ever seen a body-less head accomplish anything?\u00a0 When have you ever\nseen a headless body accomplish anything?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

NOW do you\nunderstand covenant.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We've been\nfitted together and joined together with Jesus Christ as a living, breathing\nextension of Him.\u00a0 If you'll pardon the rather oversimplification, He is\nus, and we are Him.\u00a0 Whatever He does, He does through us.\u00a0 Things\ndon't happen without our participation.\u00a0 Jesus Christ does not randomly,\nmystically, perform miracles in the earth, or work some kind of sign and wonder\nin the earth without the direct participation of His covenant people.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We have\nand live a covenant that requires our all.\u00a0 Jesus has made a covenant with\nus that requires His all -- and the last time I checked, He hadn't left\nanything out or stopped His covenant partners from living in and operating in\nall that He is and has.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Folks, His\ncovenant is as alive and breathing today as it was when He said, <\/span>\"All<\/span> (exousia) <\/span><\/i><\/b>privilege, force, authority, power\nand jurisdiction is given unto me in Heaven and in earth.\u00a0 You go,\ntherefore\u2026.\"<\/span>\u00a0(RAC\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That's OUR\nresponsibility.\u00a0 Our covenant responsibility to the Lord is to do the\nworks that He did, to preach the Word that He preached, and -- moreover -- to\nfulfill His prophetic Word, <\/span>\"Verily, verily I say unto\nyou.\u00a0 He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and\ngreater works than these shall he do because I go unto my Father.\"\u00a0 <\/span>(John 14:12)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Complete and direct obedience to the Word\nof the Lord always produces tangible and life-giving results.<\/span><\/i><\/b>
\n<\/span><\/i>
