\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Four weeks ago, we\r\nleft off with Jesus\u2019 discussion at the well with the woman of Samaria. <\/span>She didn\u2019t really understand worship. <\/span>For her, it was a physical act in some\r\ngeographical place. <\/span>Jesus made it clear\r\nto here that worship actually occurred in the realm of the Spirit \u2014 not in the\r\nflesh. <\/span>That\u2019s where we will pick up our\r\ndiscussion today.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Without\r\nbelaboring the point, Jesus went beyond just saying that those who worship God\r\nmust worship Him in spirit. <\/span>He added the\r\nphrase<\/span>, \"and in truth.\" \r\n<\/span><\/span>In\r\nso doing, He pointed back once again to that place where Adam and Eve had once\r\nlived in the Garden. <\/span>So long as they\r\nwere clothed in the absoluteness of the onoma <\/i>of the Lord, so long as\r\nthey lived enveloped in that place of Truth -- that place where His Word, His Rhema<\/span><\/i><\/b>, His revelation (they are all one\r\nand the same) formed the very essence of their existence -- His throne was\r\noperational in and through them. <\/span>They lived\r\nworship.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jesus\r\nwas saying to the woman of Samaria that relationship with the Lord, that\r\nworship, that intimacy with Him has nothing whatever to do with human\r\nreasoning, thought processes, or the knowledge of good or evil. <\/span>He was saying that \"worship\" and\r\n\"knowledge\" are not compatible. \r\n<\/span>Everything which occurs outside the realm of the Spirit functions in the\r\nplace of intellect, reasoning and knowledge. \r\n<\/span>Worship -- which can only occur in the Spirit -- must be in Truth.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

As\r\npreviously noted, Truth vanishes with knowledge, whether it be the\r\n\"knowledge of good,\" or the \"knowledge of evil.\" <\/span>If Truth disappears, the Throne goes with it,\r\nalong with all the authority and power of the Throne. <\/span>Worship, therefore, \"in Truth,\"\r\nneeds no help. <\/span>Worship in the Spirit,\r\nand in Truth, is the sum and substance -- the totality, if you will -- of being\r\nOne with the Lord Jesus Christ, with the Father, with the Holy Spirit. <\/span>To worship \"in Truth\" is to worship\r\nin the totality of Jesus' onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b>--\r\nthe very essence of His being. <\/span>He is\r\nthat Truth!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now\r\nlet\u2019s return to the discussion on the necessity of Jesus taking the <\/span>\"axe\r\nto the root of the tree.\" <\/span> <\/span>It was the Tree\r\nof the Knowledge of Good and Evil which divided His created-to-be Bride from\r\nunion and fellowship with Him. <\/span>The Plan,\r\nto which we have referred earlier, incorporated the necessity of destroying the\r\nlife and power of that tree so that it would no longer infect and destroy His\r\nchosen and called out people. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\npower of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil was death. <\/span>It brought a reign of terror upon mankind\r\nbecause that knowledge brought the three families of Fear: namely, (1) <\/span><\/b>The Fear of Evil; (2) <\/span><\/b>The Fear of Man; and (3) <\/span><\/b>The Fear of Death.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nFear of Evil attacked men and women at the level of their spirit existence, and\r\nspecifically, their relationship with God. \r\n<\/span>The Fear of Man attacked them in the realm of their relationships with\r\none another -- their soul, their minds, their emotions, their will. <\/span>The Fear of Death attacked them in their\r\nflesh, creating one disease after another, and causing mankind to react to\r\nanything which threatened their well being. \r\n<\/span>Those families of fear robbed men and women of true power and authority,\r\nkeeping them in subjugation to the wiles of Satan.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\n\"Knowledge of Good\" brought pride, arrogance, rebellion, and -- most\r\nof all -- religion,<\/b> as a substitute for love and intimate relationship\r\nwith the Lord. <\/span>It brought the\r\n\"doing of good works,\" of \"ministry,\" as a substitute for\r\njust being with and in Him. <\/span>It created\r\nthe need to be busy \"serving the needs of mankind,\" and in so doing,\r\ncheated them out of the intimacy of pure worship. <\/span>The \"Knowledge of Good\"\r\ncounterfeited the joy of being One with Jesus Christ by making individuals feel\r\n\"good\" and \"useful to society.\" <\/span>By giving individuals a sense of\r\n\"self-accomplishment,\" it substituted that feeling for the true joy\r\nwhich comes in His presence, robbing them of seeing and experiencing His\r\nprovision, His ministry, His service to His Bride.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nTree of Knowledge had to be severed at its roots, and Jesus did so in\r\nstyle. <\/span>Throughout His earthly life, and\r\nthe three and-a-half years of His ministry, Jesus ruled constantly over every\r\neffort of Satan to threaten or deceive Him into submission. <\/span>Knowing in advance that Satan would give up\r\ntrying to bring Him under his control, and create a conspiracy to kill Him, He\r\nhad established centuries and millennia before the picture of the lamb being\r\noffered as a sacrifice. <\/span>That picture\r\nbegan only a few years after Adam and Eve exited the Garden, and their son,\r\nAbel offered up the sacrifice of his firstling lambs unto the Lord -- a\r\nsacrifice which pleased the Lord.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\r\ncontinued throughout the centuries to the time when Abraham, as a picture of\r\nThe Father, went to the top of Mount Moriah to offer up Isaac -- who was a\r\nforerunner of The Son -- in obedience to the Lord's command. <\/span>In this case, the Angel of the Lord stayed\r\nAbraham's hand and provided the ram in the thicket. <\/span>When the Law was given through Moses, the\r\nlamb became the symbol for Israel of that which was to come in Christ Jesus,\r\nbecoming the offering and sacrifice for sin.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

While\r\nstill in His place in the Heavenlies, Jesus had possessed the Crown and Throne\r\nof the Universe. <\/span>He had functionally\r\ngiven up that place in order to come to redeem His Bride. <\/span>Now the time of redemption had come, and\r\nJesus was going to take His Crown -- as the Lamb!<\/b> <\/span>With Satan's conspiracy in full bloom, Judas\r\nbetrayed Jesus to the Pharisees and Sadducees, who had Him tried and convicted\r\nin Pilate's court, and sentenced to die on a cross. <\/span>Both Peter and Paul recognized that cross as the\r\n<\/i><\/b>tree, and referred to it as such on numerous occasions in their\r\nepistles.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jesus\r\ntherefore went willingly to the sacrifice as The Lamb, to be offered up on the\r\nTree. <\/span>That Tree had been responsible for\r\nthe death and separation of His Bride-to-be from His intended union with\r\nher. <\/span>So He went to the Tree to be\r\noffered up, in order to redeem His Bride from the power of that Tree. <\/span>And He did it by rising from the dead on the\r\nthird day.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nparallels here are so striking as to astound any observant person.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Adam and Eve died on the third day<\/span><\/u><\/b>, <\/span><\/b>as a result of\r\nhaving eaten of the Tree of Knowledge. \r\n<\/span>Consider for a moment the illustration that <\/span>\"a\r\nthousand years with the Lord is as a day, and a day is as a thousand\r\nyears.\" <\/span>(see\r\nII Peter 3:8) <\/span>Adam and Eve were created\r\nat the beginning of the Sixth day of Creation. \r\n<\/span>They lived with Him in the Garden on the Sixth and Seventh days (or two\r\nthousand years.) <\/span>On the Eighth day, they\r\npartook of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. <\/span>The Lord had said to them, <\/span>\"In\r\nthe day that you eat from it, you shall surely die,\" <\/span>and so they did --\r\n950 years later -- within the third thousand-year day.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jesus died on the Tree, and then rose\r\nfrom the dead on the third day<\/span><\/u><\/b>.<\/span><\/b> In so doing, He\r\nnullified the life and power of the Tree, laying the axe to its root.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Adam and Eve lost their crown and their\r\ndominion with the Tree of Knowledge<\/span><\/u><\/b>. <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jesus regained that Crown with His death\r\non the Tree<\/span><\/u><\/b>, <\/span><\/b>and\r\nsubsequent resurrection, making it available once again for all of the\r\ndescendants of Adam and Eve who would become One with Him.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Adam\r\nand Eve's son, Abel, found acceptance in the\r\neyes of the Lord<\/span><\/u><\/b>because of the sacrifice of his firstborn lambs\r\nas an offering to Him. He was killed by his\r\njealous brother<\/span><\/u>.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jesus' brethren killed Him<\/span><\/u><\/b>,<\/span><\/b>making HimThe Lamb who was offered up as an atoning sacrifice,\r\nan offering acceptable in the eyes of God the Father<\/u><\/span><\/b>-- and\r\nunder the Law!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The Serpent had subdued Adam and Eve<\/span><\/u><\/b>under him and his\r\npower, along with all of their descendants, making\r\nthem subservient to his wishes and commands<\/span><\/u>.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jesus subdued the Serpent<\/span><\/u><\/b>, <\/span><\/b>and crushed his\r\npower under His heel,making Satan and all his\r\nhordes of spirits subservient to those descendants of Adam and Eve who would\r\nbecome One with Him<\/span><\/u>.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Though\r\nHe was a meek and mild lamb, offered up in order to redeem His intended Bride,\r\nthe Lamb of God took -- and now possesses, once and for all -- the Crown, and\r\nthe Throne!<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

A\r\npattern of the Throne was laid out for that chosen people called as a pattern\r\nof the Bride, Israel. <\/span>It began with\r\nGod's promise to Abraham (see Genesis 15:18-21) to give to him and to his\r\ndescendants, the lands of the Hittites, the Hivites (referred to in Genesis 15\r\nas \"the Rephaim\"), the Perizzites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the\r\nGirgashites and the Jebusites. <\/span>Three\r\nother nations -- the Kenites, the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites -- were also\r\nmentioned as being a part of Abraham's inheritance, but the other seven are the\r\nobject of particular interest in this study, since God commanded the\r\ndestruction and removal of these seven nations.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe\r\nLand of Inheritance, which was referred to in an overall sense as Canaan, was a\r\npicture -- a metaphor, if you please -- of Eden, the Garden of God. <\/span>Under the premise that Adam and Eve would\r\nbecome \"gods\" if they would eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good\r\nand Evil, the Serpent, Satan, robbed them of the land of their inheritance.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

There\r\nwas a unique significance to the naming of each of the seven nations which\r\noccupied Canaan. <\/span>Each name represented\r\nan onoma<\/i>. <\/span>Each onoma<\/i> was a\r\npart of the overall makeup of Satan, and characterized one of the seven\r\ndominant spirits of Satan(**see note). \r\n<\/span>The collective total of the seven represented the makeup, the character,\r\nthe identity, the very essence of Satan.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

(**Note:\r\nSome have questioned the idea that there are seven dominant spirits which make\r\nup the totality of Satan, but one must remember that he was created by God\r\noriginally as Lucifer. <\/span>Ezekiel was\r\ninstructed by the Lord to take up a prophecy against him. <\/span>Part of that prophecy incorporates the\r\nfollowing statements: <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"You had the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect\r\nin beauty; ......On the day that you were created, they [every precious stone]\r\nwere prepared. <\/span>You were the anointed\r\ncherub who covers, and I placed you there.\" <\/span><\/span>(See Ezekiel 28:12-14) <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nnumber, seven, representative of God, is the number of perfection. <\/span>Ezekiel also states in his prophecy that <\/span>\"You\r\nwere internally filled with violence, and you sinned; Therefore I have cast you\r\nas profane from the mountain of God.\" <\/span>(verse 16) \r\n<\/span>Therefore, although Lucifer was created as the \"seal of\r\nperfection,\" he \"profaned\" that perfection, changing and\r\nperverting the onoma of each spirit within his makeup.)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Just\r\nas a curse had been pronounced on the Serpent for his deception, lies, and\r\ntheft of Adam and Eve's inheritance, so had a curse also been pronounced upon\r\nCanaan. <\/span>If you will recall an event\r\nwhich took place following the abatement of the Flood when Noah and his sons\r\nhad established vineyards in the region of Ararat, Ham went into his father's\r\ntent after Noah became drunk. <\/span>We are\r\ntold (Genesis 8:22) that Ham<\/span> \"saw the nakedness of his\r\nfather, and <\/span>[nagad<\/i>] <\/span><\/b>told his two brothers\r\noutside.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nparticular usage of this word, nagad<\/span><\/i>, <\/span><\/b>in this instance is in the sense of:\r\nbragging; showing a thing openly; making a public exhibition of something.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nusage of the phrase, <\/span>\"[he] saw the nakedness of (his father...\")<\/span> occurs numerous\r\ntimes throughout the Old Testament with a specific significance. <\/span>It is a Hebrew metaphor which means: to take\r\nadvantage of; to uncover for the purpose of intercourse; to benefit from seeing\r\none's weaknesses and profit therefrom.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

In\r\nthis instance we are given a picture of Ham taking advantage of his father's\r\ndrunken state in order to have homosexual intercourse. <\/span>That picture is further clarified in the\r\nstatement in verse 24, <\/span>\"When Noah awoke from his wine, he knew what his youngest\r\nson had done to him.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Canaan\r\nwas Ham's firstborn son. <\/span>He represented\r\nHam's future, his inheritance in the land. \r\n<\/span>He also carried the aberrant seed of his father. <\/span>Noah therefore pronounced God's curse upon\r\nthat seed, and all who would come forth from Canaan. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Each\r\nof the seven nations, upon whom God's judgment fell, descended from\r\nCanaan. <\/span>The Hittites were the sons of\r\nHeth, Canaan's second born son. <\/span>The\r\nJebusites were descended from Jerus, the son of Canaan, whose name was changed\r\nto Jebus by his children because of his propensity for \"crushing\"\r\neverything in his path -- even his wheat and grains. <\/span>The Amorites were the sons of Emor. <\/span>The Canaanites were descended from Sidon,\r\nCanaan's firstborn son, and became an amalgamation of the descendants of\r\nseveral sons. <\/span>And so it went.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Each\r\nnation represented one of the seven dominant spirits of Satan. <\/span>Without getting into a study of each of them,\r\nI will simply identify each nation with its presiding spirit. <\/span>Each of these spirits, incidentally, is\r\nidentified otherwise in Scripture, and Paul refers to them in Ephesians 6 as kosmokrator<\/span><\/i>:<\/span><\/b>world\r\nrulers of darkness. <\/span>Each\r\nnation\/presiding spirit is listed below:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

(1) <\/span><\/b>The\r\nHittites<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The Fear of Evil<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

(2) <\/span><\/b>The\r\nHivites<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The Fear of Man<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

(3) <\/span><\/b>The\r\nGirgashites<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The Fear of Death<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

(4) <\/span><\/span><\/b>The Amorites<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Rebellion\/Witchcraft*<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Notes: <\/span>* \r\n<\/span>The presiding spirit of the Amorites, which we have identified as\r\nRebellion and\/or Witchcraft, was clearly exhibited in the characteristics of\r\nJezebel, whose father was an Amorite king. \r\n<\/span>The Amorites sought to control others through witchcraft, and were the\r\nundisputed masters of hierarchical government. \r\n<\/span>The spirit of Jezebel was responsible for blurring the lines between\r\nmale and female, and perverting sexual relationships to the extreme.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

** <\/span>The Jebusites were a proud, arrogant people\r\nwho were noted for \"threshing,\" a technique by which wheat and other\r\ngrains were winnowed and beaten. <\/span>The end\r\nproduct was good for nothing but preparation in breads and pastries, it was\r\nlacking in real nutrition. <\/span>Because of\r\nthe way in which the grains were threshed, the seeds could not be planted, and\r\nno new harvest could come forth.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

*** <\/span>The spirit of Democracy prevailed among the\r\nPerizzites. <\/span>Their national motto was\r\n\"Openness with All.\" <\/span>Their\r\nversion of \"love\" was what we have come to call \"sloppy\r\nagape.\" <\/span>They had no qualms about\r\ncounterfeiting fellowship and open relationships with people of other nations\r\nand tribes for the purpose of gaining control over them.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

****\r\nThe Canaanites were noted for greed. \r\n<\/span>They engaged in all manner of business and trade. <\/span>There was nothing they would not sell for a\r\nprice -- including their friends and relatives.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

All\r\nof the seed of Canaan, no matter what nation or tribe, carried the genesis of\r\nHam's sexual perversion, and it became part and parcel of their existence, and\r\ntheir cultic religious rites.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

<\/span>* * *\r\n* * * * * * * * * * * * * *<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

All\r\nof the things described above were intolerable in God's people, and the Lord\r\nwarned them against intermarriage and intermingling of any kind with any of the\r\nabove nations. <\/span>Prior to Moses' death,\r\nand Joshua's taking command, Moses stood before the people to deliver the\r\nfollowing word of the Lord, <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"When the Lord your God shall bring you into the land where\r\nyou are entering to possess it, and shall clear away many nations before you --\r\nthe Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the\r\nPerizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites -- seven nations greater and\r\nstronger than you, and when the Lord your God shall deliver them before you,\r\nand you shall defeat them, then<\/u> you shall utterly destroy them. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

You shall make no covenant with them<\/u> and show no favor<\/u>\r\nto them. <\/span>Furthermore, you shall not\r\nintermarry<\/u> with them; you shall not give your daughters<\/u> to their\r\nsons, nor shall you take their daughters<\/u> for your sons. <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

For they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve\r\nother gods; then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you, and He will\r\nquickly destroy you. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

But thus shall you do to them: you shall tear down their altars,\r\nand smash their sacred pillars and hew down their Asherim (idols to Ashtaroth),\r\nand burn their graven images with fire. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your\r\nGod has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples\r\nwho are on the face of the earth.\" <\/span><\/span>(see Deuteronomy\r\n7:1-11) NASB<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n
