\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I sort of got off on a political tangent at the end of last\r\nweek\u2019s Coffee Break in talking about the focus in our society on death or the\r\nthreat of it.\u00a0 <\/span>Think about the two weeks\r\nor so just preceding the election on November 3rd<\/sup>.\u00a0 <\/span>The media was using the threat of the virus\r\nto shape the thinking of people in the outcome of the election.\u00a0 <\/span>Because the Biden campaign was focusing on\r\nthe virus as the fault of the Trump administration it became an easy way to\r\nassociate people\u2019s think with the threat of death as it related to Trump.\u00a0 <\/span>Fortunately, the Lord had another plan in\r\nmind, and it didn\u2019t work.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Anyway, let\u2019s get back to our real focus for today.\u00a0 <\/span>We were talking about Adam and Eve.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Death was something\r\nthere was no reference for in their paradigm. The animals didn\u2019t die. The birds\r\ndidn\u2019t die. The fish didn\u2019t die. They were all reproducing and filling the\r\nearth, according to God\u2019s command. Once they ate of the Tree of the Knowledge\r\nof Good and Evil, the dying process was set into their DNA, and just as God had\r\nspoken, they died on the day they ate thereof, 930 years into that third day.\r\nFrom that moment, the human race and the human genome has been contaminated\r\nwith both death and the fear of death. For that reason, even for Christians,\r\nthe concept of everlasting life, or life for ever-more \u2014 never mind\r\nresurrection from the dead \u2014 have been contaminated by the Fear of Death as\r\nwell as by the traditions and religious philosophies that have been bred into\r\nthe life of the body of Christ. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

In order then to\r\nget a real grasp on the foundation of resurrection from the dead, we have to go\r\nback to the Word Himself and see what Jesus said, what He taught, and what He\r\ndid. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

John 6:38-40, KJV:<\/span><\/b>\r\nFor I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that\r\nsent me. And this is the Father\u2019s will which hath sent me, that of all which he\r\nhath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last\r\nday. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the\r\nSon, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up\r\nat the last day. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

This is the first\r\nand most basic element of resurrection. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jesus is making it\r\nabundantly clear that everyone who sees Him \u2014 the Greek word here is theoreo<\/i><\/b>,\r\nwhich means: to discern, to see and know, to perceive and ascertain <\/b>\u2014\r\nand believes on Him (and here the word in the Greek text is pisteuo<\/i><\/b>,\r\nwhich is the word for faith, the exercise of faith meaning: to put full\r\nfaith and credit in, to entrust and to commit without reservation<\/b>) will\r\nhave zoe <\/i><\/b>life (the God-breathed life) aionios<\/i><\/b>: existing\r\nthroughout the eternity of the eternities<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\r\n\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Then Jesus says\r\nthis: <\/span>And I will raise him up at the last day. <\/span>This is perhaps one\r\nof the most unique and revelatory things Jesus says in this pas-sage. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The Greek word used\r\nfor the phrase \u201craise him up\u201d is the word, anistemi<\/i><\/b>, a\r\ncontraction of two Greek words, ana <\/i><\/b>(up) and histemi<\/i><\/b>,\r\na prolonged version of stao<\/i><\/b>, which has some meanings and\r\napplications which give real understanding to what Jesus is saying. Let me\r\nillustrate first with another statement that Jesus makes: <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

John 5:24, KJV: <\/span><\/b>\u201cVerily,\r\nverily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent\r\nme, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed\r\nfrom death unto life.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

This word, \u201cpassed\u201d\r\ncomes from the Greek metabaino <\/i><\/b>which is an instant transition\r\nfrom one place to another. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Again, we have the\r\npicture of hearing (hearing and understand-ing) and exercising faith and\r\nabsolute confidence and trust in the reality of who Jesus is, and the price\r\nthat Jesus paid on our be-half. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

When Jesus said, <\/span>\u201cI\r\nwill raise him up at the last day,\u201d <\/span>He was applying the truth of resurrection\r\nin a phenomenal way. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The term, anistemi<\/i><\/b>,\r\nliterally means: to stand up again, to fix and establish, to uphold and sustain\r\nthe authority, to restore <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

and sustain\r\ncovenant. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Resurrection,\r\ntherefore, is much more than being raised frm the dead, it is being moved from\r\ndeath \u2014 where we have been laid flat by sin \u2014 to the very life that is God\u2019s\r\nlife. It is the restoration of our relationship with Father, Son & Holy\r\nSpirit throughout the eternity of the eternities! <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Death, in this\r\nsense, is nothing more than separation from the relationship we were created\r\nfor and in with Father, Son & Holy Spirit. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Resurrection, again\r\nin this sense, is being raised back to that life we were created and designed\r\nfor. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

But that\u2019s only one\r\nphase of resurrection. What Jesus paid for, and what Father did when He raised\r\nJesus from physical death in the tomb, is literally the cancellation of the\r\nsentence of death upon us. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\u2019ve quoted this\r\npassage again and again in times past but it deserves revisiting in this\r\ncontext: Hebrews 9:25-26, KJV: <\/b><\/span>Nor yet that he\r\nshould offer him-self often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place\r\nevery year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the\r\nfoundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared\r\nto put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Hebrews 9:27-28,\r\nAmp Bible<\/span><\/b>:\r\n<\/span>And just as it is appointed for [all] men once to die, and after\r\nthat the [certain] judgment, Even so it is that Christ, having been offered to\r\ntake upon Himself and bear as a burden the sins of many once and once for all,\r\nwill appear a second time, not to carry any burden of sin nor to deal with sin,\r\nbut to bring to full salvation those who are [eagerly, constantly, and\r\npatiently] waiting for and expecting Him. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

When Adam and Eve\r\nate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they brought sin and death\r\ninto the human genome. Under the Law of Moses, it was necessary for the priests\r\nto enter into the Holy Place once each year with a blood sacrifice for the\r\natonement (or covering over) of the sins of the people. That act of offering a\r\nblood sacrifice did not eradicate the sin, nor did it do away with the sentence\r\nof death in human DNA. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Thus, it became\r\nnecessary for Jesus Christ to become the once and for all time blood sacrifice\r\nin order to completely eradicate both the sin and do away with the sentence of\r\ndeath. What the priests could not do under the Law of Moses, Jesus accomplished\r\nwith four distinct acts: <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

(1)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>He laid the axe to\r\nthe root of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. (see what John\r\nsays of Jesus in Matthew <\/i><\/b>) <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Matthew\r\n3:10<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\r\n<\/span>And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees:\r\ntherefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast\r\ninto the fire.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

(2)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>He was hung and\r\ndied on that Tree \u2014 the same Tree that brought death to Adam and Eve. (see\r\nActs 13:29 and I Peter 2:24<\/i><\/b>) <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Acts\r\n13:29<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\r\n<\/span>And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they\r\ntook him<\/i> down from the tree, and laid him<\/i> in a sepulchre.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\nPeter 2:<\/span><\/u><\/b>24:\r\n<\/span>Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that\r\nwe, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye\r\nwere healed.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

(3) He took all of\r\nour sins, our sicknesses and diseases, our infirmities, and Satan\u2019s power over\r\nus to that Tree and put it all to death, then laid it at Satan\u2019s feet once and\r\nfor all. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

(4) Having put an\r\nend to the power of sin and sickness, disease and infirmity, He also put an end\r\nto death when Father raised Him from the dead. (Acts 10:39-40 and 13:30,\r\n& Galatians 3:13-14<\/i><\/b>) <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Acts 10:39-40<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>And we are witnesses\r\nof all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom\r\nthey slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and showed him\r\nopenly;<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Acts 13:30<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>But God raised him\r\nfrom the dead:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Galatians 3:13-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Christ hath redeemed\r\nus from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written,\r\nCursed is<\/i> every one that hangeth on a tree:That the blessing of Abraham\r\nmight come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the\r\npromise of the Spirit through faith.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

This last quote\r\nfrom Paul\u2019s letter to the Galatians makes it about as unambiguous as anything\r\ncan be when he writes that \u201c<\/i><\/b><\/span>Christ hath redeemed\r\nus from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for us.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

So what was the\r\ncurse? It was the sentence of death for sin. That was the sentence that had\r\npassed upon all mankind\u00a0 <\/span>from the moment\r\nthat Adam ate of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

There was a\r\nfundamental under-standing among the Jews that there would come a Resurrection\r\nDay for all at some point in the future when all would stand before the Great\r\nJudgment Seat. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Consider Martha\u2019s statement to Je-sus when\r\nhe spoke of Lazarus being raised from the dead: <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>John 11:21-24, KJV<\/span><\/b>: <\/span>Then\r\nsaid Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.\r\nBut I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it\r\nthee. Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto\r\nhim, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

But look now at\r\nwhat Jesus says to Martha next: <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

John 11:25-26, KJV<\/span><\/b>: <\/span>Jesus\r\nsaid unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me,\r\nthough he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in\r\nme shall never die. Believest thou this? <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Martha responded in the affirmative to\r\nJesus, but that\u2019s not quite what He got when He was addressing a crowd of\r\nfollowers. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

John 6:49-52, KJV<\/span><\/b>: <\/span>Your\r\nfathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which\r\ncometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the\r\nliving bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he\r\nshall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will\r\ngive for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves,\r\nsaying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\r\n\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

But Jesus was quick to answer them. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

John 6:54-58, KJV<\/span><\/b>: <\/span>Whoso\r\neateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him\r\nup at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.\r\nHe that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

As the living Father\r\nhath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall\r\nlive by me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers\r\ndid eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live forever.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

In each of the preceding verses and\r\npassages, we have seen the words, \u201cdie,\u201d and \u201cdeath.\u201d In each case the Greek\r\nword <\/span>apothnesko <\/span><\/i><\/b>occurs. This word literally means: to\r\ndie off, to be dead physically<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

What\u2019s sad is that in today\u2019s society, and\r\nparticularly in the body of Christ for many generations, this has been read and\r\ninferred as spiritual death. After all, Jesus surely didn\u2019t mean that\r\nResurrection From the Dead meant that we could apply this in a literal sense!<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\r\n\u00a0<\/o:p><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And yet, that\u2019s exactly what the Word says!\r\nJesus couldn\u2019t have said it more plainly than He did when He said to Martha, \u201c<\/i><\/b><\/span>And\r\nwhosoever liveth and believeth in me SHALL NEVER DIE.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Again, when Paul is writing to the Hebrews\r\nand says <\/span>\u201cAnd as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the\r\njudgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many,\u201d <\/span>here once again,\r\nthe word translated \u201cdie\u201d is that same word Jesus used, <\/span>apothnesko<\/span><\/i><\/b>: <\/span>physical death. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

I still have a fair amount of territory to\r\ncover with this topic.\u00a0 <\/span>Our society is so\r\ningrained with the expectation of death as a natural outcome to our lives that\r\nit fills every fiber of their existence.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\r\n\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I said this earlier, and I will say it\r\nagain!\u00a0 <\/span>Insurance companies gamble with\r\nyou on this expectation.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>You gamble\r\nthat you are going to die.\u00a0 <\/span>They gamble\r\nthat you are not \u2014 at least when \u201cnormal life spans\u201d have been achieved.\u00a0 <\/span>I have little use for insurance and insurance\r\ncompanies, in case you hadn\u2019t noticed.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Anyway, I\u2019ll get off that!<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\u2019s take a look\r\nat a few of the proofs of our deliverance from the sentence of death throughout\r\nthe Word.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Colossians 2:13<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>He\r\nre-animated us con-jointly with Him: and at the same time obliterated and wiped\r\ntotally clean the decrees of judgment and accompanying sentence of death that\r\nhad been written against us.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(RAC Translation\r\n& Amplification)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\u2019s pretty\r\nclear, isn\u2019t it?\u00a0 <\/span>OK, then consider these\r\nnext few verses from what Paul wrote to the Romans:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Romans\r\n6:3<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\u201cDon\u2019t\r\nyou realize that those of us who have been baptized \u2014 immersed \u2014 into the\u00a0 <\/span>Anointed One and His Anointing have been\r\nbaptized into His death?\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(RAC\r\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Romans\r\n6:4: <\/span><\/u><\/b>\u201cTherefore, and as a consequence\r\nthereof, we are buried and put into the grave through baptism so that our old\r\nman sees death.\u00a0 <\/span>It follows, therefore,\r\nthat in the same way Christ was raised up from the dead by the visible Glory of\r\nthe Father, we also should walk and live renewed and refreshed (with His\r\nbreath) of life.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(RAC\r\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Romans 6:5-10<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\u201c<\/span>For\r\nif we have been planted together, germinating as seeds in the likeness and form\r\nof His death, we shall also spring forth in (and with His) resurrection;\r\nKnowing this, that our old manand coprrupted DNA is crucified with Him, that\r\nthe body (of law) of sin might be annulled and destroyed in order to free us\r\nfrom having to serve and be under the Law of Sin and Death.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

For\r\nHe who has died is freed from sin (and the laws which determine that which is\r\nsin).\u00a0 <\/span>Now if we are truly dead with\r\nChrist, we believe and know that we shall also live with Him:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Knowing\r\nthat Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death has no\r\nmore authority, dominion, control or power over Him. For when He died, He died\r\nkilling off sin and death once and for all: and by virtue of the fact that He\r\nlives, He lives in and for the destiny and purposes of God.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(RAC Translation & Amplification)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Starts to become\r\nreal, don\u2019t you think?\u00a0 <\/span>The problem is\r\nthat, in spite of our living in a death culture, we still have to grasp the\r\nsignificance of what Jesus did for us on the Cross.\u00a0 <\/span>Here\u2019s what Paul wrote to the Hebrews.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Hebrews\r\n9:27-28<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>In spite of the fact that that man was destined for death\r\n[because of Adam\u2019s sin] at one time, and following after death, the final\r\ntribunal of justice:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

It remains that Jesus Christ, the Anointed One, offered Himself\r\nup on the Cross to take on Himself the sins and trespasses of many (that is,\r\nall those who would receive His death on their part) once and for all time\r\ncanceling their appointment with death; and for those that expect His return,\r\nHe will appear once again, not carrying the sins of the world, bringing health,\r\nfullness, prosperity, salvation, protection and safety.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(RAC Translation &\r\nAmplification)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\ndon\u2019t want to bore you with all of the proofs in the Word that bear out Jesus\u2019\r\ncancelation of death for us, but you need to read and remember all these, over\r\nand over and over again until they are locked solid in your mind and\r\nspirit.\u00a0 <\/span>This is too important to us, and\r\na necessity if we are going to function in the authority that Jesus has given\r\nus over death.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

I sort of got off on a political tangent at the end of last week\u2019s Coffee Break in talking about the focus in our society on death or the threat of it. Think about the two weeks or so just preceding the election on November 3rd. The media was using the threat of the virus to shape the thinking of people in the outcome of the election. Because the Biden campaign was focusing on the virus as the fault of the Trump administration it became an easy way to associate people\u2019s think with the threat of death as it related to Trump.
