had to overcome between the time he was anointed by Samuel and took the\r\nthrone of Judah and Benjamin some 13 years later prior to taking the throne of\r\nthe entire nation of Israel.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\r\ncolor:#984806;mso-themecolor:accent6;mso-themeshade:128'>The overwhelming\r\nmajority of us don\u2019t live our lives on the run until we finally reach that\r\nplace where we get to fulfil God\u2019s destiny for our lives.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\r\ncolor:#984806;mso-themecolor:accent6;mso-themeshade:128'>Of course, that mostly\r\napplies right now to us pampered Americans.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\r\n<\/span>I have friends in other countries that I have known throughout the years\r\nwho\u2019ve lived their lives under constant persecution, who\u2019ve also had to be on\r\nthe run for their lives from time to time.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\r\ncolor:#984806;mso-themecolor:accent6;mso-themeshade:128'>The persecution and\r\nopposition has a real seasoning effect on us, as long as we don\u2019t get angry and\r\nrebel against the circumstances.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>We can\r\npraise and worship the Lord with absolute freedom in the midst of it all and\r\nwatch as God intervenes for us.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>David\r\nis now going to get the test of his life.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Saul is literally going to be in his hand and he will have every\r\nopportunity to get rid of this monster who has done so much to torment him, to\r\ndo evil against him, and make every effort to kill him.<span\r\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Watch what unfolds next.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\r\n\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>I Samuel 24:1-22<\/span><\/u><\/b><span style='font-size:\r\n13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>: <\/span><span style='font-size:\r\n13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#C00000'>And it came to\r\npass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told\r\nhim, saying, Behold, David <i>is<\/i> in the wilderness of Engedi. Then Saul\r\ntook three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and\r\nhis men upon the rocks of the wild goats. And he came to the sheepcotes by the\r\nway, where <i>was<\/i> a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and\r\nhis men remained in the sides of the cave.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\r\ncolor:#C00000'>And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the\r\nLORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that\r\nthou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and\r\ncut off the skirt of Saul\u2019s robe privily. And it came to pass afterward, that\r\nDavid\u2019s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul\u2019s skirt. <\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><sup><span\r\nstyle='font-size:8.5pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#C00000'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\r\ncolor:#C00000'>And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this\r\nthing unto my master, the LORD\u2019S anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against\r\nhim, seeing he <i>is<\/i> the anointed of the LORD. So David stayed his servants\r\nwith these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up\r\nout of the cave, and went on <i>his<\/i> way.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\r\ncolor:#C00000'>David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried\r\nafter Saul, saying, My lord the king. Behold, this day thine eyes have seen\r\nhow that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and <i>some<\/i>\r\nbade <i>me<\/i> kill thee: but <i>mine eye<\/i> spared thee; and I said, I will\r\nnot put forth mine hand against my lord; for he <i>is<\/i> the LORD\u2019S anointed.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\r\ncolor:#C00000'>Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my\r\nhand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know\r\nthou and see that <i>there is<\/i> neither evil nor transgression in mine hand,\r\nand I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\r\ncolor:#C00000'>The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of\r\nthee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee. As saith the proverb of the\r\nancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be\r\nupon thee. After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou\r\npursue? after a dead dog, after a flea. The LORD therefore be judge, and judge\r\nbetween me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine\r\nhand.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\r\ncolor:#C00000'>And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking\r\nthese words unto Saul, that Saul said, <i>Is<\/i> this thy voice, my son David?\r\nAnd Saul lifted up his voice, and wept. And he said to David, Thou<i>art<\/i>\r\nmore righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded\r\nthee evil.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\r\ncolor:#C00000'>And thou hast showed this day how that thou hast dealt well with\r\nme: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst\r\nme not. For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore\r\nthe LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day. And now,\r\nbehold, I know well that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of\r\nIsrael shall be established in thine hand.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\r\ncolor:#C00000'>Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut\r\noff my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father\u2019s\r\nhouse. And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat\r\nthem up unto the hold<\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;color:#C00000'>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:.25in;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>This\r\nentire narrative is a picture of something you wouldn\u2019t see in today\u2019s world,\r\nand yet it reflects the heart of David toward the Lord.<span\r\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Saul is literally put in a position where\r\nDavid has a perfect opportunity to kill him.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Had he done so, Saul would no longer have been in a position to torment\r\nhim and persecute him.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Even though he is\r\nurged to kill Saul, he refuses. The way his conscience affects him, however,\r\nwhen he cutrs off a piece of Saul\u2019s skirt is absolutely amazing.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>David\r\ngets himself to a safe place and then calls out to Saul, awakening him.<span\r\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He challenges Saul for his continued intent\r\nto chase him down and kill him even though David has behaved himself with\r\nintegrity and honor towards Saul.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>With\r\nDavid\u2019s challenge to Saul, he becomes very emotional and hit with\r\nconviction.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He finally confesses that he\r\nknows tht God has anointed David to become King in Israel, and he pleads with\r\nDavid to save alive his seed after him.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\r\n<\/span>David, of course, has a very strong relationship with Jonathan, Saul\u2019s\r\nson, and has no problem making that promise.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>David\r\nis no dummy.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He knows how fickle Saul\r\nis, and how worthless his promises are, so when everyone departs, Saul goes\r\nback to his home and his throne but David gets himself to a safe place\r\nagain.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The phrase used in verse 22, \u201cthe\r\nhold\u201d refers to an area known as Paran.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\r\n<\/span>We see this duplicated in I Samuel 25:1 where Samuel dies, is buried in\r\nRamah, where the had lived for many years, and David thereafter goes on to\r\nParan.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Paran\r\nis interesting in that it is described generically as \u201cthe hold,\u201d because this\r\nwas an area where the children of Israel wandered for a good part of the 40\r\nyears they were in the wilderness.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Paran\r\nis described as \u201cthe hold,\u201d or a place of safety because it is a land of caves\r\n\u201cabounding in foliage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>That\r\nmade it a perfect place of concealment for David and the company of hundreds of\r\npeople who traveled with him. narrative is that Nasbal decided to celebrate the\r\nsuccess of shearing his 3000 sheep and the money that it was going to bring\r\nhim.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He threw a party and got himself\r\nroyally drunk.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>As he began to sober up\r\nafterward, Abigail told him what she had done with David to spare his\r\nlife.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Nabal\u2019s heart failed within him at\r\nthe news and he died of heart failure a few days later.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>When\r\nDavid learned that Nabal had died, he sought out Abigail and took her to be his\r\nwife.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>She was the kind of wife he\r\nwanted.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He must have been desperate for\r\nfemale companionship by this time because he also took Ahinoam of Jezreel (a\r\ntown nearby to Maon) to become a wife to him.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\r\n<\/span>We sort of get an understanding as to why when we learn that Saul had\r\ntaken Michal from him and given her to another man to be his wife instead of\r\nDavid.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>We\u2019re\r\nnot done with Saul yet.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>David had made\r\nhis headquarters in the hill of Hachilah.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Hachilah was a place located roughly two miles from Maon and Jezreel in\r\nthe hills of the Ziphites.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal been hiding.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\r\n<\/span>The Ziphites thought to endear themselves to Saul (and hopefully be\r\nrewarded by him) so they sent a delegation to Saul to let him know where David\r\nwas hiding.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal decides to come after David with an army of\r\n3,000 soldiers.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>David gets wind of his\r\ncoming into the wilderness of Ziph and sends spies to verify his presence.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal departs to one of his hiding places.<span\r\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>This will be the last time that David has to\r\ncontend with Saul.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>David, however,\r\nrealizes that Saul hasn\u2019t changed and that something might trigger him again to\r\ncome after David, so he decides to take his troop into the land of the\r\nPhilistines.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It is a strange scenario,\r\nconsidering that David has killed the Philistines by the tens of thousands thus\r\nfar, but he offers his services to Achish, the King of Gath.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:12.5pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Achish\r\nis very aware of David\u2019s prowess as a warrior and accepts his offer.<span\r\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>David uses his time to go out against\r\nlongtime enemies of Israel, the Geshurites, the Gezrites and the\r\nAmalekites.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He accomplishes what Saul\r\nfailed to do and destroyed them, man and woman, and brought the sheep, the\r\noxen, the asses and the camels and all the fine apparel to Achish.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:12.5pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Taking\r\na momentary detour from our narrative here, we all remember Saul\u2019s visit to the\r\nwitch of Endor and his desire to call forth Samuel from the dead.<span\r\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Samuel does appear and asks Saul why he has\r\ndisturbed his rest.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:12.5pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Saul\u2019s\r\nanswer is that he is surrounded by the Philistines, that the Lord will not\r\nanswer his pleas, that the prophets will not communicate on his behalf, that he\r\nhas no dreams and needs to know what to do.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Samuel lets him know that he has some 24 hours to live, and that he and\r\nhis armies are going to fall to the Philistines.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:12.5pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>David\r\nis in the camp of the Philistines who are now surrounding Israel.<span\r\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The Philistine princes insist that David\r\ncannot accompany them, that he is a danger to them, so Achish reluctantly sends\r\nhim away.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>This is God\u2019s deliverance for\r\nDavid to prevent him from killing any of the house of Israel.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:12.5pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>One\r\nlast test for David.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>When he and his\r\ncompany returned home to Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had invaded and\r\ntaken all the inhabitants captive including David\u2019s two wives.<span\r\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He called for Abiathar, the priest, to bring\r\nthe priestly ephod so that he could ask the Lord what to do.<span\r\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord instructed him to pursue the\r\nAmalekites and recover everyone and everything.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\r\n<\/span>The chase was successful, he recovered all and destroyed the Amalekites.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:2.0pt;text-indent:17.75pt;line-height:\r\nnormal;mso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:12.5pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\r\nnext day, war between Israel and the Philistines ensued and both Saul and\r\nJonathan were killed in battle.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The\r\nelders of Judah and Benjamin called for David and anointed him to become their\r\nking.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The promises of God to David were\r\nkept.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It would be another three years\r\nbefore all Israel would anoint David, but he became their king \u2014 the king that\r\nforever was the standard by which Israel was judged.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=MsoNormal
