The exhaustive use of the number 12\r\nin Revelation as John begins to unfold the picture of the New Jerusalem has\r\nalways astounded me.\u00a0 <\/span>Talk about\r\nmathematical precision.\u00a0 <\/span>The metaphorical\r\nrepresentations draw a picture of the Bride of Christ in a way you just can\u2019t\r\nmiss!\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve talked about this in times\r\npast, but take another look.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nJohn wrote, <\/span>\u201cAnd I John\r\nsaw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared\r\nas a bride adorned for her husband,\u201d<\/span> the angel of the Lord was showing him the\r\nsame thing that Ezekiel had seen in a vision.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>It was not a city in the sense of a physical or geographical place; it\r\nwas the ensample of a principle: a principle which strikes at the very heart of\r\nall that the Lord has been doing in our midst.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nmathematical revelations of this city are, individually and collectively,\r\ninescapable proofs of the calling, the preparation, and the final adornment of\r\nus as a people for Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>As John\r\nwas carried about the city in the Spirit, he saw the following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

1)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>And [it] had a wall\r\ngreat and high, and had twelve<\/u> gates,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

2)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>And at the gates twelve<\/u>\r\nangels, and the names written thereon,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

3)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Which are the names\r\nof the twelve<\/u> tribes of the children of Israel.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

4)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>And the wall of the\r\ncity had twelve<\/u> foundations,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

5)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>And in them the\r\nnames of the twelve<\/u> apostles of the Lamb.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

6)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>And he measured the\r\ncity with the reed, twelve thousand<\/u> furlongs.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

7)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The length and the\r\nbreadth and the height of it are equal.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>(i.e., 12,000<\/u> X 12,000<\/u> X 12,000<\/u> furlongs)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

8)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>And he measured the\r\nwall thereof, an hundred and forty four<\/u> cubits, according to the measure\r\nof a man, that is, of the angel.\u00a0 <\/span>(i.e., 12\r\nX 12<\/u> cubits)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Before\r\nwe continue, let me take you back to two earlier pictures in Revelation which\r\nparallel this picture of the city.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

In\r\nRevelation 7:3 - 4, 14, John describes hearing an angel cry, <\/span>\u201cDo not harm the earth or\r\nthe sea or the trees, until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God on\r\ntheir foreheads.\u2019\u00a0 <\/span>And I heard the number\r\nof those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousand sealed from every\r\ntribe of the sons of Israel\u2026\u2026 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201c\u2026And he\r\nsaid to me, \u2018These are the ones who have come through great tribulation, and\r\nthey have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Then\r\nJohn describes a second group of 144,000 (see Revelation 14:1).\u00a0 <\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\u201cAnd I looked, and behold, the Lamb was\r\nstanding on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand,\r\nhaving His onoma, and the onoma of His Father written on their foreheads.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And I heard\r\na voice from heaven, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of loud\r\nthunder, and the voice which I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on\r\ntheir harps.\u00a0 <\/span>And they sang a new song\r\nbefore the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders; and no\r\none could learn the song except the one hundred and forty-four thousand who had\r\nbeen purchased from the earth.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Have\r\nyou ever considered the significance of this number, 144?\u00a0 <\/span>It is twelve in its completeness: 12 X 12,\r\ntwelve squared, twelve completed and fulfilled.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As\r\nyou will easily remember, we have discussed the number, 12, and its\r\nsignificance on numerous occasions over the years.\u00a0 <\/span>Twelve is the number of Ekklesia.\u00a0 <\/span>It is the number of preparation and\r\nprocessing.\u00a0 <\/span>It is the number of\r\ntribulation and affliction.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Twelve\r\nin atomic physics, as we have previously noted, is the maximum number of atoms\r\nwhich can be cohesively related one to another.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>It is the number of relationship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nJesus chose His disciples, He chose twelve \u2013 not nine or ten or thirteen or\r\nfourteen.\u00a0 <\/span>Why?\u00a0 <\/span>Because it was the maximum number of people\r\nwith whom He could develop an interpersonal, intimate relationship.\u00a0 <\/span>It was the maximum number of people (units,\r\nactually; where we define a family as a unit \u2013 not just the father or the\r\nhusband) with whom a relationship of trust, transparency, openness, faith and\r\nlove could develop without becoming watered down or diminished.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Twelve\r\nwas the maximum number of individuals who could relate one to another without\r\nbecoming divided into cliques or private little circles.\u00a0 <\/span>It was the perfect number of trust and\r\ntransparency.\u00a0 <\/span>Within the framework of\r\ntwelve, relationships could develop in which barriers of distrust and fear\r\ncould be dissolved.\u00a0 <\/span>Processing and\r\nchange could take place within the individuals without the fear of\r\nbetrayal.\u00a0 <\/span>(OK, I know the original\r\ntwelve had a Judas, but the Lord permitted that so as to fulfill His plan to\r\nhave a Bride, free from the bondage of the Serpent.\u00a0 <\/span>The apostle Paul recognized that he was one <\/span>\u201cchosen out of due\r\nseason\u201d<\/span>to\r\nreplace Judas as a replacement member of the original twelve.)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

This\r\npicture was initiated with Israel\u2019s selection as the first Bride in the\r\nearth.\u00a0 <\/span>Jacob had twelve sons, each of\r\nwhom represented one\/twelfth of the whole Bride.\u00a0 <\/span>Some have erroneously concluded that there\r\nwere thirteen tribes because of the half-tribes of Joseph: Ephraim and\r\nManasseh, but Ephraim was chosen to take the place of Levi, whose inheritance\r\nwas the Lord \u2013 not land and holdings as did each of the other tribes.\u00a0 <\/span>Levi was instructed to live amongst the other\r\ntribes, being a separate yet joined people who existed entirely as a channel of\r\ncommunication between the Bridegroom and this corporate Bride.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Anyway,\r\nJohn sees two distinct groups of 144,000.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>The first is taken from the twelve tribes of Israel.\u00a0 <\/span>The second was \u201cpurchased from among men\u201d (in\r\nthe larger sense of the earth).\u00a0 <\/span>Why two\r\ngroups instead of one?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Remember\r\nthe first Bride in the earth: the Bride who chose the flesh and the Law instead\r\nof the intimate relationship being offered by God?\u00a0 <\/span>That Bride was Israel.\u00a0 <\/span>Here is an extraordinary picture of the\r\nSpirit of Grace and Supplications, of whom Zechariah prophesied.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Though\r\nIsrael had been divorced by the Lord, though she had been \u201csent away\u201d into\r\ncaptivity for her adulteries, and even though the Law specifically forbade\r\nremarriage to one who had been \u201cput away\u201d (see Deuteronomy 24:1-4), the Lord\r\npromised that He would once again call Israel to Himself, that He would take\r\nher back, divorce, warts and all!\u00a0 <\/span>He\r\neven sent Hosea to live the picture of that promise prophetically before\r\nIsrael.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Hosea\r\nwas instructed to marry Gomer, a woman who had been a prostitute, and to have\r\nchildren with her.\u00a0 <\/span>True to her past\r\nlife, Gomer ran off from Hosea after several years of marriage, and married\r\nanother man.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Hosea\r\nwas instructed by the Lord to go and find her and bring her back to himself,\r\nand in so doing to say to Israel, <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Hosea 3:3-5<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>\u201cThou shalt abide for me\r\nmany days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another\r\nman: so will I also be for thee.\u00a0 <\/span>For the\r\nchildren of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince,\r\nand without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and\r\nwithout teraphim: Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the\r\nLord their God, and David their king; and shall fear the Lord and His goodness\r\nin the latter days.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jesus\r\nmade it clear that there would come an end to the days of His Grace to the\r\nGentiles (all non-Jewish nations), that Jerusalem (which had been under foreign\r\noccupation and rule since the first days of Israel\u2019s captivity) and Israel\r\nwould once again return to a place of relationship with Him, becoming a free\r\npeople.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Luke\r\nquotes Jesus as saying, <\/span>\u201cFor there\r\nshall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.\u00a0 <\/span>And they shall fall by the sword, and shall\r\nbe led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of\r\nthe Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.\u201d<\/span>(Luke 21:23b-24\r\nNASB)<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Then\r\nPaul shares some startling revelation and promises. (See Romans 11:25-29)\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>\u201cFor I do not want you,\r\nbrethren, to be uninformed as to this mystery, lest you become wise in your own\r\nestimation, that a partial hardening has happened to and in Israel until the\r\nfullness of the Gentiles has come in; know therefore that Israel will be saved,\r\nhealed, delivered and made whole, just as it has been written, \u2018The Deliverer\r\nwill come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.\u00a0 <\/span>And this is My Covenant with them, when I\r\nshall have taken away their sins.\u2019<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cFrom the\r\nstandpoint of the gospel (at this moment in time) they are enemies for your\r\nsake, but from the standpoint of God\u2019s choice, they are beloved for the sake of\r\nthe fathers; for the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable.\u00a0 <\/span>For just as you were once disobedient to God,\r\nbut now have been shown mercy through and because of their disobedience, so\r\nthese also have now been disobedient, in order that because of the mercy shown\r\nto you, they may now likewise be shown mercy.\u201d<\/span>(RACTranslation& Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What\r\nhe is saying is this: the purpose of the Bridegroom from the beginning was to\r\npermit Israel to fall away so that He could extend His mercy to the nations,\r\ncalling them to Himself; and that when the day of His mercy and calling to\r\nthose nations is fulfilled, He will \u2013 because of their past disobedience \u2013 now\r\nagain show mercy to Israel and call her to Himself as in the days of old.\u00a0 <\/span>The promise of the Bridegroom to Israel,\r\ntherefore, is His Covenant.\u00a0 <\/span>In spite of\r\nIsrael\u2019s adulteries, and her subsequent divorce from the Lord, the Bridegroom\u2019s\r\ngifts and calling to her are without repentance.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\r\nthis is Truth is evidenced in a stupendous move in today\u2019s Jewish\r\ncommunity.\u00a0 <\/span>When I first began to work on\r\nthis article, I was told that in New York City alone, more than a thousand\r\nJews per day<\/u><\/i> are coming to know Jesus Christ as their Messiah and\r\nBridegroom.\u00a0 <\/span>In Israel, in spite of the\r\nmedia attention to the uprisings and problems between the Arab and Jew,\r\nhundreds and even thousands of both Arabs and Jews are turning to Jesus Christ\r\nwith their whole heart.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jews\r\nare forsaking their Judaism and legalistic past in staggering numbers.\u00a0 <\/span>Even though the media spotlight is turned on\r\nthe political conflicts, a spiritual peace is in the works which will sweep the\r\nnation of Israel and bring about the fulfillment of Jesus\u2019 promise.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\nknow this doesn\u2019t seem to fit with many of the contemporary interpretations of\r\n\u201cend times,\u201d but it is happening nonetheless!\u00a0\r\n<\/span>We are about to behold a miracle of the ages as the Lord brings about a\r\npeace between brethren: Jews and Arabs.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>(And, NO, I didn\u2019t grab this out of thin air, or make it up as some kind\r\nof new doctrine.\u00a0 <\/span>Isaiah prophesied\r\nit.\u00a0 <\/span>Ezekiel prophesied it.\u00a0 <\/span>Jeremiah prophesied it.)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jerusalem\r\n\u2013 the New Jerusalem \u2013 the Bride of Christ has, as her gates, the fulfilled, the\r\ncompleted, the made whole Bride drawn from Israel and seen in the\r\nrepresentation of each of the twelve tribes.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Standing before each of the twelve gates are twelve angels who sound\r\nforth the call of the Bridegroom.\u00a0 <\/span>But\r\nthe New Jerusalem does not only consist of Jews.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Next\r\nweek, we\u2019ll wrap up this picture of the New Jerusalem.\u00a0 <\/span>Maybe these analogies don\u2019t fit with what\r\nyou\u2019ve heard or been taught but I want to stir your spirit and cause you to\r\nrethink things.\u00a0 <\/span>Hopefully, this overall\r\npicture I\u2019ve been drawing for you of the Call to the Bride by the Bridegroom\r\ngoing forth in the earth today will awaken things in you and cause you to\r\nrealize that the Lord has a grand and glorious purpose for His people.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Things\r\nare not unfolding in the traditional ways we\u2019ve been taught.\u00a0 <\/span>God is working in extraordinary ways with\r\nfolks who are responding.\u00a0 <\/span>This is a year\r\nof overflow for those who walk in commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

If\r\nyou aren\u2019t experiencing that overflow, perhaps it is time for you to reevaluate\r\nyour responses to the Lord.\u00a0 <\/span>Maybe it is\r\ntime for you to junk some doctrines that have kept you in bondage, doctrines\r\nthat have kept you from walking in the fullness of all that Jesus Christ is\r\ndoing, saying, and breathing into His called-out people.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When you want what God wants for the same reason\r\nthat God wants it, you become unlimited and unstoppable!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
