Today\u2019s discussion will address some of the physical and\r\npolitical aspects, but we really are still focusing on the fact that our\r\nperspective on what properly classifies one as a \u201cliberal\u201d should be more\r\nspiritually acclimated.\u00a0 <\/span>Our society has\r\nreally messed with our ability to properly define things, and in today\u2019s warped\r\nconversation, we have really gone astray.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Time\r\nto get on with the day.\u00a0 Pour yourself a cup and let's get back to our\r\ndiscussion.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Gary\r\nSevery sent me a note after last week\u2019s Coffee Break and pointed out a\r\nscripture from Isaiah's prophecy that is very applicable to our discussion.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the\r\nchurl said to be bountiful.\u00a0 For the vile person will speak villany, and\r\nhis heart will work iniquity, to practice hypocrisy, and to utter error against\r\nthe LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of\r\nthe thirsty to fail.\u00a0 The instruments also of the churl are evil: he\r\ndeviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the\r\nneedy speaketh right.\u00a0 But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by\r\nliberal things shall he stand.\"<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>\r\n(Isaiah 32:5-8)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Before we get too far along, let's take a look at some\r\ndefinitions from the Hebrew text.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"The vile (<\/span>\u00ec\u00e1˜\u00f0ˆ<\/span> --<\/span>na\u00f2ba\u00f2l<\/span><\/i><\/b>: <\/span>stupid<\/span><\/u>, wicked<\/u>,\r\nimpious<\/u>, dishonorable<\/u><\/span>) person shall no more be\r\ncalled liberal<\/span> (<\/span>\u00e1\u00e9\u00e3›\u00f0ˆ<\/span> -- <\/span>na\u00f2dŒ\u00f2yb<\/span><\/i><\/b>: <\/span>generous<\/span><\/u>, magnanimous<\/u>,\r\nvoluntary and cheerful giver<\/u><\/span>), nor the churl <\/span>(<\/span>\u00e9\u00ec\u00c7\u00e9k\u00c4<\/span> -- <\/span>kŒ\u00f2ylay<\/span><\/i><\/b>: <\/span>stingy<\/span><\/u>, withholding<\/u>,\r\nkeeping for oneself<\/u>, scanty and grudging<\/u><\/span>)\r\nsaid to be bountiful <\/span>(<\/span>\u00f2\u00c7BL<\/span> -- <\/span>sho'-ah<\/span><\/i><\/b>: <\/span>free, noble, opulent, rich\r\nand generous with his wealth<\/span>).\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Sure\r\ndraws a picture of what the Lord considers to be liberal, doesn't it?\u00a0 Do\r\nyou see the stark contrast with what society today labels as\r\n\"liberal\"?\u00a0 Today's so-called \"liberal\" is stingy,\r\nself-absorbed, fearful, grudging and withholding of their own goods and\r\nlifestyle.\u00a0 What the MSM today labels \"liberal\" is what Isaiah\r\nrefers to as being \"a churl.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Society\r\ntoday has delighted in the reversal of meanings and the twisting of words to\r\nmake them mean exactly the opposite of what they actually mean.\u00a0 Let me\r\ngive you a few examples.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

A\r\nhomosexual or lesbian today is called \"gay,\" when there is nothing\r\ntruly gay about them or their lifestyle.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Street\r\nkids refer to something that is great, or really good, as \"bad.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Capitalism\r\nhas become a bad word in the MSM (mainstream! media) and implies the wicked\r\ngetting rich, hoarding one's riches and depriving the poor.\u00a0 In fact,\r\ncapitalism is nothing more than an economic system in which production and\r\ndistribution are privately or corporately owned -- where development is\r\nproportional to the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free\r\nmarket place.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And\r\nhow about our acronym, the MSM?\u00a0 \"Mainstream\" Media?\u00a0\r\nMainstream?\u00a0 Not on their best day!\u00a0 The term \"mainstream\"\r\nimplies the idea that they represent the core values of American life (or the\r\ncore values of the life of whatever country the media happen to\r\nrepresent).\u00a0 In fact, the media -- especially in America and other\r\n\"democratic\" countries -- are largely controlled by a small group of\r\nwannabe-elites who hate God, who despite the name of Jesus Christ, who hate\r\nfreedom, and who hate any kind of disciplined lifestyle which reflects Godly\r\nprinciples.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nlatest Gallup poll (reported on Fox News a few weeks ago) says that 88% of\r\nAmericans consider themselves \"Christian\" and 57% of Americans\r\nconsider themselves \"born again\" Christians.\u00a0 By the very\r\nconcept of \"mainstream,\" therefore, our so-called MSM are not even\r\nclose to \"mainstream.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

You\r\nget the idea.\u00a0 We could literally make a whole new dictionary of\r\n\"politically correct\" terminology -- terminology which defies the\r\ntruth, terminology which is fear-based, and terminology which does its\r\ndead-level (and I use that adjective advisedly) best to avoid any mention of\r\nJesus Christ, the Word of God, God the Father, or anything which implies\r\nrighteousness or righteous standards.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As\r\nI said when we began last Friday, when we get done with this discussion, you\r\nmay very well re-define who and what you are -- both politically and\r\nspiritually.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let's\r\nget back to what the Word of God says about \"liberal.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We'll\r\npick up in Proverbs 11:25 to draw a picture.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth\r\nshall be watered also himself.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Just a second before we continue.\u00a0 Doesn't that statement\r\nsound a whole lot like something Jesus said?\u00a0 <\/span>Give,\r\nand it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken\r\ntogether, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same\r\nmeasure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.\"<\/span>\u00a0 (Luke 6:38)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Yup.\u00a0 Sounds exactly like what Solomon wrote in the\r\nProverbs.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth\r\nshall be watered also himself.\u00a0 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall\r\ncurse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.\u00a0 He\r\nthat diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it\r\nshall come unto him.\u00a0 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the\r\nrighteous shall flourish as a branch.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

How,\r\npray tell, did we ever get to the place of calling people who are afraid to\r\ntake personal responsibility \"liberal\"?\u00a0 How did we ever come to\r\nthe place where a person is a \"liberal\" who wants to take your\r\nhard-earned money, siphon off a good part of it for himself (or herself)\r\nwithout letting folks know, and then appear to be generous by giving large sums\r\nof money -- all taken by legalized thievery in the name of \"doing\r\ngood\" -- to social programs to fund (and keep folks in chains) poverty?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let's\r\ngo the other direction, now.\u00a0 How did we ever come to the place where a\r\n\"conservative\" is someone who undoes what the \"liberal\"\r\nsteals through heavy taxation?\u00a0 Why do we call someone \"conservative\"\r\nwhen they are not afraid of hard work, become prosperous, and use their\r\nprosperity to freely give to meet the needs of others?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

You've\r\nheard the old adage, I'm sure: \"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a\r\nday.\u00a0 Teach a man to fish, and he'll feed himself for the rest of his\r\nlife.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

So\r\nhow come the person who teaches someone \"how to fish\" is a\r\n\"conservative,\" whereas the \"liberal\" is the guy who takes\r\nyour fish and gives it to someone else?\u00a0 Hmmmmmm............\u00a0 Sounds\r\nkind of fishy to me!\u00a0 (No pun intended, of course!)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let's take this discussion the next step.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ever notice how Jesus preached against\r\n\"conservatives\"?\u00a0 (Look out, now.\u00a0 I'm going to set a\r\ntrap.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his\r\ndisciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of\r\nGod!\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let me translate this from the Greek text a little more\r\naccurately.\u00a0 <\/span>\"And Jesus cast His eyes about [the gathered crowd], and\r\nsaid to His disciples, 'How impractical is it for those who grasp and hang onto\r\ntheir material goods, their wealth, their money to enter into the sphere of\r\nGod's Kingdom and rulership.\"<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b> (Mark 10:23)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\ndon't think I've ever heard a more mis-quoted and mis-used verse of Scripture\r\nby unbelieving folks trying to prove that Jesus never meant for Christians to\r\nhave an abundance of wealth.\u00a0 That isn't what Jesus was saying at\r\nall.\u00a0 He's talking about those people who make money their focus, their\r\ngod, their source of safety and protection.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

People\r\nwho make money all that they rely on in life have, and are afflicted with, a\r\nspirit of poverty.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Folks,\r\nthere isn't any other way to describe this than \"conservatism.\"\u00a0\r\nYou remember our Webster's definition from Monday, do you not?\u00a0 Here's a\r\npart of it again: con\u00b7ser\u00b7va\u00b7tive:<\/b>a<\/i>., (1)\r\n<\/span><\/b>conserving, or tending to conserve; preservative; (2) <\/span><\/b>tending to preserve old institutions,\r\nmethods, customs and the like; (3) <\/span><\/b>adhering\r\nto what is old or established; opposing or resisting change; (4)<\/span><\/b>having conservative views, espousing slow\r\nprogress; moderate, prudent, safe.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

People\r\nwith a spirit of poverty conserve, preserve, hang onto what they have,\r\ncontinually seek to add to what they have so that they build up a bigger and\r\nbetter \"financial safety net.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now\r\ndon't get me wrong.\u00a0 Conservation, in and of itself, isn't necessarily\r\nwrong.\u00a0 It's the motivation behind it.\u00a0 Taken in the context of the\r\nrich young ruler (in Mark 10) to which Jesus was referring, people who can't\r\nfreely give away what they have when directed by the Spirit of the Lord are\r\nafflicted by a spirit of poverty.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There's\r\nnothing wrong with being rich, and Jesus doesn't ever preach against having\r\nwealth and riches.\u00a0 In fact, Proverbs 10:22 tells us that <\/span>\"The\r\nblessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nan individual is a true liberal, they most likely have an abundance from which\r\nto supply the needs of others.\u00a0 What's more, they listen continually to\r\nthe voice of the Lord and watch for opportunities to give.\u00a0 We've already\r\nquoted this twice today, and here it is for the third time: <\/span>\"The\r\nliberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also\r\nhimself.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\ntrue liberal is a giver -- not a taker.\u00a0 The true conservative is a taker\r\n-- not a giver.\u00a0 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\r\nbrings us back to today's so-called \"liberals.\"\u00a0 They freely\r\ngive -- OPM: other people's money<\/u><\/b>, not their own!\u00a0 They take\r\nfrom everyone else so as to meet the needs of the needy, and in so doing make\r\nthemselves look generous while not actually being generous from and out of\r\ntheir own supply.\u00a0 <\/span>Fact is, today\u2019s\r\nso-called \u201cliberals\u201d are among the stingiest people on the face of the\r\nearth.\u00a0 <\/span>We really need to ban the term\r\n\"liberal\" when it comes to today's politics and politicians.\u00a0\r\nThey're not liberals, they're socialists -- and there's a huge difference!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

By\r\ncontinually \"giving\" OPM, they take away the fruit of the labors of\r\nthe truly \"liberal\" while they teach the bondage of dependence,\r\ncreating a sub-class of people who become mentally, emotionally, physically and\r\nfinancially dependent on their \"good will.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ever\r\nwonder why the body of Christ has been labeled for centuries as\r\n\"conservative\"?\u00a0 The truth is that many Christians (and I use\r\nthe term carefully) really are \"conservatives.\"\u00a0 They've never\r\nlearned to love with the love of the Lord Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Agape<\/span><\/i><\/b> is missing as a part of their\r\nexistence.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nmost important ingredient in true Christianity -- as opposed to \"religious\r\nChristianity\" -- is a spirit of love.\u00a0 Most of you have read the 13th\r\nchapter of I Corinthians, I'm sure.\u00a0 If you haven't stop right now and\r\nread it.\u00a0 I won't take time here to quote the chapter, but the essence of agape<\/span><\/i><\/b>-- and that's the Greek word that's\r\ntranslated \"charity\" in the KJV, and \"love\" in other\r\nEnglish translations -- is generosity, faith, hope, giving, believing the best,\r\nseeking after the best.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There's\r\nnothing stingy about God.\u00a0 There's nothing about Him that desires to\r\nwithhold His Blessing, His abundance, His glory from His people.\u00a0\r\nEverything about Him is Love -- agape.<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>And, folks, there is NOTHING CONSERVATIVE\r\nabout agape!<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>NOTHING!\u00a0 It is liberal!\u00a0 It is\r\ngenerous!\u00a0 It is giving!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Consider\r\nwhere the contemporary body of Christ has come from and why there is such a\r\n\"conservative\" mindset among so many Christians.\u00a0 For centuries\r\n-- nearly 15 of them -- Christians were taught that they had to\r\n\"earn\" a relationship with God.\u00a0 Grace and Love were simply not\r\ntaught.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nWycliffe and Tyndale began to labor to see that the Word of God was made\r\navailable to the common individual and readable in such a way that folks could\r\nrelate, it broke open the floodgates of true \"liberality.\"\u00a0\r\nMartin Luther came along, posted his 95 theses to the door of the Wittenberg\r\nChapel based upon Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11 and Hebrews 10:38,\r\nand the concept of salvation by Grace was released upon believers while another\r\npiece of \"conservatism's\" armor was cut away.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

In\r\nthe centuries since, despite individual revelation to Christian leaders like\r\nthe Wesley brothers, Jonathan Edwards, George Whitfield, D. L. Moody, Smith\r\nWigglesworth and many others, the message of the Love of God somehow didn't\r\nbreak through to people's understanding, and the overwhelming majority of\r\nChristians have seen God as austere, solemn, fearful -- and stingy!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

You\r\nmight not have gotten folks to admit that last one, but let's face it: most\r\nbelievers have seen God as someone who doles out -- through Jesus Christ, of\r\ncourse -- salvation, healing, deliverance, and provision on a case-by-case\r\nbasis, depending on whether you measured up to His \"Grace\" or\r\nnot.\u00a0 So, if you were among those people who believed that God hangs onto\r\neverything He's got and doles out His blessings carefully and restrictively,\r\nyou became a \"conservative.\"\u00a0 Everything about your walk with\r\nGod demonstrated that belief-system of \"conservation.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I was just trying to figure out how far to take this\r\ndiscussion today, and realized that if we tackle the next part of this, it\r\nwould make today's Coffee Break too long, so let's save the rest of it for\r\nFriday.\u00a0 I want you to see where the body of Christ has the opportunity to\r\nbecome truly liberal, and shake this disease of\r\n\"conservativism.\"\u00a0 We'll also see just how liberal God really\r\nis!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What you have today is what you said yesterday.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
