Let\u2019s wrap up this discussion on liberals and conservatives\r\ntoday.\u00a0 Next week we will get into a prophetic message that comes out of two\r\nexperiences I had with the audible voice of the Lord a few weeks ago.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

It's been\r\nawhile since I've had such a volume of responses to a short series of Coffee\r\nBreaks, but these articles on being \"liberal\" have provoked a series\r\nof comments that run the gamut.\u00a0 Some people have gotten irritated --\r\nmaybe downright angry -- that I would highlight the fact that Jesus -- and all\r\ntrue Christian believers -- are in fact \"liberals\" and not\r\n\"conservatives.\"\u00a0 Others treat this as humorous, and some treat\r\nit as \"tongue-in-cheek.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The issue,\r\nfolks, is more than a matter of semantics.\u00a0 We really need to get our\r\nthinking straightened out!\u00a0 And we need to get our terminology\r\ncorrect.\u00a0 I'm not a liberal, or a socialist, or a \"left-winger\"\r\nby today's hi-jacked and misused terminology.\u00a0 But neither am I a\r\n\"conservative\" when compared to the way God defines\r\n\"conservatism.\"\u00a0 I am a true liberal.\u00a0<\/b> Maybe that's\r\nhow we need to redefine ourselves as faith-talking, Bible-believing,\r\nSpirit-walking Christians.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Understand?<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I'm not a\r\nliberal.\u00a0 I'm a true liberal.<\/b>\u00a0 A true liberal<\/b> is one\r\nwho gives for a living.\u00a0 Neither am I a \"religious conservative\"\r\nby today's definitions.\u00a0 I'm not religious: I'm a Christian -- and a\r\nChristian (if indeed he or she has a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ) is\r\nanything but religious.\u00a0 Religion is a substitute -- a counterfeit, if you\r\nwill -- for the real thing.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Religion\r\nsubstitutes rules and regulations for relationship.\u00a0 Religion pretends to\r\nplease God through the keeping of rituals, performance of various sacrifices,\r\nand\/or the keeping of certain rules, laws or commandments.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Christianity,\r\non the other hand, is a living, breathing, love-relationship with a living,\r\nbreathing Jesus Christ.\u00a0 There's nothing religious about it.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There's only\r\none commandment for the Christian: <\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

John\r\n13:34-35<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love <\/span>(agape<\/span><\/i><\/b>) one another;\r\nas I have loved<\/span>(agape)<\/span><\/i><\/b>you, that ye also love<\/span>(agape)<\/span><\/i><\/b>one another.\u00a0 By this shall all men know that ye are my\r\ndisciples, if ye have love<\/span>(agape) <\/span><\/i><\/b>one to another.\"<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Huge\r\ndifference, wouldn't you say?<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Back to what\r\nI said a second ago, a true liberal<\/b> is one who gives for a living.\u00a0\r\nI'll quote for you from a piece that Ann Mellon (of the Copley News Service)\r\ndid back in 2005 before we moved to Washington.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Get by Giving<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Perhaps missionary work appeals\r\nto you. We can\u2019t all be Mother Teresa, but there\u2019s nothing keeping us from\r\nworking in that direction. Go to your nearest convalescent home and sing a song\r\nfor the residents. Ask a neighbor if she needs her lawn mowed. Or a car washed.\r\nIf you\u2019ve never done such a thing, you might be surprised by what happens.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When you show that much\r\ncare for a stranger, just imagine the quality of care you could offer your\r\nemployer. Positions are often created for such compassionate and creative men\r\nand women.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And while heartfelt\r\ngratitude is always welcome, most of the time that alone won\u2019t pay the bills.\r\nHow can you turn helping others into a full-time career? The ministry is just\r\none way.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ask Regner A. Capener what\r\nhe does for a living and he\u2019ll tell you that he gives. And it\u2019s true. Having\r\nspent years building churches in the Arctic, Capener is now a pastor in\r\nMission, Texas, where he continues to share good words and deeds with people\r\nevery day. His philosophy on giving as an occupation is simple.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cIt may seem unorthodox,\u201d\r\nnotes Capener, \u201cbut the principles incorporated into tithing and giving and\r\nsowing all yield prosperity when we do it in obedience to God\u2019s word. We don\u2019t\r\njust give. We sow.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ann's title\r\nto this piece highlights the difference between society's contemporary\r\n\"liberals\" (who \"get\" by taking other people's money to\r\naccomplish their ends) and a true liberal<\/b> (by God's definition) who\r\ngives for a living.\u00a0 A true liberal<\/b>has love as his or her driving\r\nforce.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Back to the\r\nverses that Dave highlighted for me.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Isaiah\r\n32:5-8<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\"The\r\nvile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be\r\nbountiful.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"For\r\nthe vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to\r\npractice hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul\r\nof the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"The\r\ninstruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy\r\nthe poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"But\r\nthe liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he\r\nstand.\"\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Don't you\r\nthink it's about time we changed our usages of words like this to match what\r\nGod's Word says?\u00a0 Instead of calling today's socialists and\r\n\"takers\" \"liberal,\" let's call them what God's Word says they\r\nare: \"churl.\"\u00a0 You do understand what I'm saying, don't\r\nyou?\u00a0 Our hi-jacked English language has been perverted by those seeking\r\nto be seen as something other than what they really are.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let's stop\r\ncalling homosexuals and lesbians \"gay.\"\u00a0 They're not!<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let's stop\r\ncalling Christianity \"a religion.\"\u00a0 It's not!<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"Conservative\"\r\nmeans stingy, self-absorbed, drawn-in, tradition-bound, opposing change -- NOT\r\nChristian, NOT giving, NOT freedom-loving, NOT willing to put one's life on the\r\nline to stand for a nation with the spiritual, moral and ethical values our\r\nfounding fathers stood for.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"Liberal\"\r\nmeans giving, sacrificing oneself, speaking truth even when it isn't popular,\r\nmeeting the needs of others from your own source of supply, looking out for the\r\nneeds of others -- NOT supporting a perverted agenda that destroys lives, like\r\nhomosexuality, homosexual marriage, abortion, euthanasia and the like; NOT\r\nseeking ways to tax the rich, NOT seeking ways to raise more taxes so you can\r\nfund a dependency-lifestyle.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

How about\r\nthe latest in the perversion of the English language: \"secular\r\nprogressive\"?\u00a0 What a farce!\u00a0 Secular means you abandon all\r\nmention of and dependence on God.\u00a0 Progressive means you are\r\nforward-thinking, forward-looking, and forward-acting.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Secular\r\nProgressive?\u00a0 Balderdash!\u00a0 One cannot abandon their hope, their trust\r\nand their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and have any hope whatever of\r\nprogressing in any area of life!<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Get\r\nit?\u00a0 Our terminologies have been raped, hi-jacked, pillaged and burned to\r\nthe ground!\u00a0 What is supposed to represent righteousness now has been\r\nchanged to represent all that is vile and refuse in God's sight.\u00a0 What is\r\nsupposed to represent evil and wickedness is now presented as\r\n\"mainstream,\" as the \"norm\" of society, as forward-thinking,\r\nas good and right.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

A person is\r\nconsidered to be biased, guilty of \"hate crimes\" and racially\r\nprejudiced if he or she speaks out against sin in any form.\u00a0 Believe it or\r\nnot, as I write this Coffee Break, there are two bills pending in two different\r\nstate houses, and one before the U.S. House of Representatives that would make\r\nany preacher who preaches from Romans 1:18-32 or I Corinthians 6:9-10 calling\r\nhomosexual acts, or lesbian acts, or bestiality a sin to be guilty of a\r\n\"hate crime,\" punishable by fines and imprisonment.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Hate\r\ncrime?\u00a0 That's about like calling a surgeon a \"hate-monger\"\r\nbecause he tells you that you have cancer and will die if he doesn't operate to\r\nremove the cancer.\u00a0 I've yet to meet anyone who actually hates a\r\nhomosexual.\u00a0 We hate the sin because we know it destroys lives, and we're\r\nnot interested in seeing people die when they can have life and freedom in\r\nChrist Jesus.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Murder by\r\nabortion has become a \"right,\" and people who espouse this form of\r\nbaby-killing are called \"liberals.\"\u00a0 They're anything but!\u00a0\r\nNot what God calls \"liberal.\"\u00a0 They take the lives of the unborn\r\nbecause having those children will \"inconvenience\" them.\u00a0 That\r\nain't liberal, folks!\u00a0 Not by a long shot!\u00a0 That's nothing more than\r\nself-absorbed \"conservatism.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Well, I've sort\r\nof gotten off-track, and yet not really.\u00a0 Let's talk about the body of\r\nChrist as \"conservative\" for a minute.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There really\r\nare portions of the body of Christ that one could legitimately call\r\n\"conservative.\"\u00a0 They hang onto dead traditions.\u00a0 They\r\npenny-pinch.\u00a0 They have a poverty mindset.\u00a0 They see prosperous\r\nbelievers as being heretical.\u00a0 They see folks who walk in the Spirit and\r\noperate in the Gifts of the Spirit as being \"fanatics.\"\u00a0 They\r\naccuse those who minister in the realm of deliverance as casting out demons by\r\nthe prince of demons -- not realizing that they are blaspheming the Holy Spirit\r\nin so doing.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now THAT's\r\n\"conservative.\"\u00a0 It sure isn't \"liberal!\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I did a scan\r\none day of the Bible from beginning to end just to see how many times the words\r\nabundance, blessing, wealth, prosperity, and riches (and their variant forms)\r\noccur with reference to all that God has promised, and all that Jesus provided\r\nby His redemptive work on the Cross.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Want to take\r\na guess at the number?\u00a0 Try more than 900!\u00a0 Does that sound\r\n\"liberal\" to you?<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Want to know\r\nhow many times we are warned against trusting in riches?\u00a0 How about a\r\ndozen times?<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It's a funny\r\nthing.\u00a0 The \"conservative\" Christian (I hate that term!) is\r\nquick on the draw and ready to warn you that God doesn't want Christians to\r\nprosper or be in health, or live an abundant life full of riches; and he\/she is\r\nalways ready to drag out one or more of the dozen quotes from Scripture warning\r\nyou against seeking after riches.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Try getting\r\nthose same \"conservatives\" to remember any of the 900 times (the\r\nnumber actually exceeds 900) where \"abundance\" and\r\n\"prosperity\" are the will of God, His heart's desire for His people,\r\nor the manifestation of His blessing in their lives.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Of course\r\nthese \"conservative\" Christians also don't want to take\r\nresponsibility for their sicknesses, their diseases, their needs, their poverty\r\nand their lack of living life to the full, until it overflows.\u00a0 They're\r\nalways ready to blame God (Well, I guess it was the will of God for Sam not\r\nto receive his healing.\u00a0 God just wanted to teach him something through\r\nthis disease.<\/i>) or accuse God in some way because they didn't receive what\r\nthey asked for.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Better yet,\r\nthey fall back on Satan's old ploy, \"Yea, hath God said?\" in the\r\nerrant belief that while God may give it to some folks, He doesn't make it\r\navailable for all, and is therefore selective.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Brother!\u00a0\r\nNow THAT's conservative!<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I'm going to\r\nend today's (and this series) discussion by once again saying that if there\r\never was\/is a true liberal,<\/b> it's Jesus!\u00a0 Everything about Him\r\nspells liberality.\u00a0 Everything about Him spells the giving of\r\noneself.\u00a0 Everything about Jesus is a life of abundance -- in EVERYTHING!!<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That said,\r\nyou'll never hear me again refer to myself as either a \"conservative\"\r\nor a \"conservative Christian.\"\u00a0 From now on I'm a true\r\nliberal<\/b>.\u00a0 Understand?\u00a0 You'll never hear me refer to myself as a\r\n\"liberal\" because of today's abuse and perversion of the term, but\r\nyou will hear me use the phrase: true liberal<\/b>!<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That's what\r\nJesus is, and my heart's desire is to emulate Him in every area of my life.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
