Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, are you?\u00a0 Good!\u00a0\r\nLet's get going on this day.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I'm doing some coffee-blending today again.\u00a0 Costco\r\nhas been offering its usual San Francisco Bay French Roast -- which we've been\r\nbuying -- along with a privately-labeled Columbian Supremo<\/span>.\u00a0\r\nWhat I've done is to blend three pounds of the San Francisco Bay with three\r\npounds of Columbian Supremo<\/span> and about a pound and a\r\nhalf to two pounds of some double-roasted French Roast from Winco<\/span>\r\nFoods in Richland.\u00a0 Makes for a nice blend, and it is really\r\nflavorful!\u00a0 Got a great aroma, too!\u00a0 Can't miss that smell when you\r\nwalk in the door.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The French Press is full to the brim today, so pour yourself<\/span> a cup.\u00a0 It's goooooooodd<\/span>\r\nstuff!!\u00a0 You might even find a \"vitamin\" somewhere around the\r\nkitchen to go with it.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Well, let's get on with our discussion for today.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We're talking about the medium of exchange in any economy\r\nand said that -- for our world economy -- that medium is money.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

For the Kingdom of God, however, the medium of exchange is\r\nfaith.\u00a0 I<\/span> said this in our last Coffee Break, and\r\neven gave you an example in the life of David Salzburg, but because the concept\r\nof faith being a medium of exchange may seem strange, let me take you on a\r\ndifferent journey today in the life of another man called David.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let me first preface this story with a fundamental\r\nprinciple of God's economy that every Christian needs to lock down in their\r\nspirit.\u00a0 We'll talk more about this principle in the days to come, but let\r\nme give you the short version for the sake of today's Coffee Break.\u00a0 It is\r\nabsolutely critical that believers get a hold on this.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

So long as Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden, they\r\nhad complete and total provision for everything.\u00a0 There<\/span>\r\nwas absolutely nothing lacking.\u00a0 They had perfect health, they were free\r\nfrom all disease, and they had no worries about death since they were never\r\ndesigned to die.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What Adam and Eve had from God was an assignment.\u00a0<\/span> <\/span>\"And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden;\r\nand there he put the man whom he had formed.........And the LORD God took the\r\nman, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.\"<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0 (<\/span>Genesis 2:8, 15)<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The phraseology here in the Hebrew text indicates that\r\nAdam's assignment was to <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span><\/span><\/span>sha\u00ec<\/span><\/span>\u00b1\u00b5mar<\/span>)<\/span>: to guard, to preserve, to protect, and to attend to.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Genesis 3:17-19, 23-24 tells us that Adam lost his\r\nassignment -- AND<\/st1:stockticker> the automatic\r\nprovision of God for every need of his life.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"Because thou hast hearkened\r\nunto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded\r\nthee, saying, Thou shalt<\/span> not eat of it: cursed is the\r\nground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt<\/span> thou eat of it\r\nall the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to\r\nthee; and thou shalt<\/span> eat the herb of the field; In\r\nthe sweat of thy face shalt<\/span> thou eat bread, till thou\r\nreturn unto the ground<\/u>; for out of it wast<\/span> thou\r\ntaken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt<\/span> thou\r\nreturn........ Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden<\/span> of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was\r\ntaken<\/u>.\u00a0 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the\r\ngarden of Eden Cherubims<\/span>, and a flaming sword which\r\nturned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.\"<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

See the picture?\u00a0 Things are no longer being provided\r\nfor Adam and Eve.\u00c2<\/span>\u00a0 The<\/span>\r\nfocus of their lives changes from God's assignment to spending their lives and\r\ntheir waking moments striving to provide for themselves.\u00a0 Now they were reduced\r\nto working for a living.\u00a0<\/span> <\/span>\"In the sweat\r\nof thy face shalt<\/span> thou eat bread, till thou return\r\nunto the ground.\"<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The Scripture reinforces this with the following,<\/span> <\/span>\"Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden<\/span> of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was\r\ntaken.\"<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00c2\u00a0 Got it?\u00a0 Instead of\r\ntending to and \"dressing\" the Garden, now he would till the ground,\r\nwork it, labor with pain and toil just to survive.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It has been the human mindset and mentality ever since.\u00a0\r\nIt remains the rule by which people live today -- BUT this rule applies ONLY to\r\npeople who have not been redeemed by the blood covenant that Jesus made on\r\ntheir behalf.\u00a0 God's people have been redeemed from the curse -- and\r\nworking for a living is a part of that curse.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Lest anyone misconstrue what I'm saying, no one should\r\ndraw the conclusion that I'm saying we don't have to work.\u00a0 Adam<\/span> and Eve \"worked\" in the Garden prior to their\r\neviction, but their work was neither sweat nor toil.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The fact that labor has been redeemed from the curse is\r\nillustrated in a couple of statements that the apostle Paul makes.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"And labour<\/span>,\r\nworking with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we\r\nsuffer it...\"<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0 (<\/span>I Corinthians 4:12<\/st1:time>)<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"Let him that stole steal no\r\nmore: but rather let him labour<\/span>, working with his\r\nhands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth<\/span>.\"\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>(<\/span><\/span>I Thessalonians 4:11<\/st1:time>)<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We'll expand more on this in the days to come, but Paul\r\nmakes clear the fact that the work of our hands is no longer the means of our\r\nprovision, that its purpose is to bless others; that our objective in labor is\r\nnow for the purpose of giving.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Matthew 6:33<\/st1:time>\r\nexplains the redemption from sweat-based labor this way:<\/span> <\/span>\"But seek ye first the kingdom<\/st1:PlaceType> of God<\/st1:PlaceName><\/st1:place>,\r\nand his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.\"<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Hopefully, I'm not making this so brief that I'm losing\r\nyou, but bear with me.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Our second David (David Dorsett is the name we will refer\r\nto him by in this Coffee Break, but once again this is not his real name) began\r\nhis walk with God under totally different circumstances.\u00a0 For the sake of\r\nbrevity, let me simply call him DD.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

DD had come to know the Lord Jesus Christ in his earlier\r\nyears.\u00a0 He had married and raised a family.\u00a0 His sons grew up in an\r\nenvironment in which they heard the Word on a daily basis.\u00a0 DD studied the\r\nScriptures avidly, and listened to teaching tapes and ministry programs on\r\nradio and television regularly.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

One thing I've discovered throughout the years is that\r\nthose who spend time in the Word -- meditating on what God is saying and making\r\nthat Word life in them -- seem to develop higher IQ's than their counterparts\r\nin the world.\u00a0 That's<\/span> an empirical conclusion\r\nbased on my own personal observations throughout more than 60 years of knowing\r\nand walking with the Lord on a personal basis.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

David Dorsett was no exception to this.\u00a0 He was\r\nbrilliant in many respects.\u00a0 He told me one day that he'd had his IQ\r\ntested \"just for fun\" when Hitachi Business Systems made the tests\r\navailable for their employees, and his IQ tested at somewhere around 165.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That's well over the 140 mark that society considers as\r\n\"genius level.\"\u00c2\u00a0 DD's level of technical understanding and his\r\nacumen in business showed that \"genius.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There was just one problem.\u00a0 I suppose that David\r\nalways knew he was \"smarter than the average bear,\" but the IQ test\r\nresults sort of went to his head and he began to rely heavily on his own\r\nsmarts.\u00a0 As he continued his studies of Scripture, instead of relying on\r\nthe Holy Spirit for instruction and wisdom, he began to develop his own\r\ninterpretation of prophetic events.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

If you recall reading some of the discussions in past\r\nCoffee Breaks, (e.g., Seven Nations, Seven Letters) you'll remember that I've noted\r\nthat one of the results of eating of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil\r\nis fear: specifically being contaminated with and by the Fear of Evil, the Fear\r\nof Man, and the Fear of Death.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As the years passed, many of DD's interpretations of the\r\nWord -- because they were based in his own skill and \"great\" understanding\r\n-- became fear-based.\u00a0 He feared the second coming of the Lord Jesus\r\nChrist.\u00a0 He feared \"The Anti-Christ.\"\u00c2\u00a0 He feared \"The\r\nGreat Tribulation.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

These fear-based interpretations aside, DD was exceptionally\r\nprosperous in business.\u00a0 His<\/span> business and sales\r\nabilities enabled a quick rise within the ranks of management at Hitachi\r\nBusiness Systems.\u00a0 He thoroughly enjoyed (and he was really good at it!)\r\ndesigning large computer main-frame systems to meet the expanding needs of\r\nlarge corporations and businesses.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Throughout the years, he traveled the nation designing,\r\nselling and installing these computer main-frames for numerous companies.\u00a0\r\nIf<\/span> his customers were in Atlanta, for example, (and he\r\nlived in Seattle) he flew commercially.\u00a0 If his customers were based in\r\nthe northwest, he preferred to drive.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

In the early 1990's, following our move from Anchorage,\r\nAlaska to Post Falls, Idaho where we were based for ministry throughout the\r\nnorthwest and Canada, I still commuted back and forth to Anchorage working\r\nunder contract as Chief Engineer for the FOX<\/st1:stockticker>\r\ntelevision station where I had been employed for several years previously.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

DD called me one day at the TV station in Anchorage.\u00a0\r\n\"When are you and Della coming back through Seattle,\" he asked.\u00a0\r\nI told him that we would be leaving Anchorage<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>\r\nthe following Friday.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"Would you mind stopping over for a couple of days\r\nbefore returning to Spokane<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>,\"\r\nhe asked.\u00a0 \"<\/span>I've just had a puzzling\r\nexperience, and I'd like to get your take on it.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I told him that didn't present any difficulties, and that\r\nwe'd arrive from Anchorage on Friday evening.\u00a0 He met us at Seattle-Tacoma\r\nInternational as promised, and we went to spend the night at his home.\u00a0 We\r\nspent the evening just fellowshipping with him and his wife (we'll refer to her\r\nas \"Dorothy.\")\u00a0 He never broached the subject of the phone call\r\nthat night so I figured he would wait until the following day when the ladies\r\nplanned to do some shopping.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Saturday morning, after Della and Dorothy had headed\r\ntowards one of Seattle<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>'s\r\nbiggest shopping centers, David and I were standing in his driveway when he\r\ndived into the topic of concern that had puzzled him.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"A few days ago,\" he began, \"I was reading\r\nand studying as usual, and after some time I shut my Bible and just laid down\r\non the bed to meditate.\u00a0 As<\/span> clearly as I can hear\r\nyour voice talking to me, I heard the Holy Spirit speak.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"That's great!\" I said.\u00a0 \"<\/span>What\r\ndid He say to you?\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"Sell all thou hast, and come and follow me.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

David Dorsett continued.\u00a0 \"Regner<\/span>,\r\nthat makes absolutely no sense to me.\u00a0 The<\/span> Lord\r\nknows that what I have is His!\u00a0 My possessions are just stuff.\u00a0 They\r\nhave no eternal value for me whatever.\u00a0 So why on earth would the Lord say\r\nto me, 'Sell all thou hast, and come, and follow me'?\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I'd known DD for awhile by now and began to laugh.\u00a0\r\n\"David, my friend, there's no puzzle to this at all.\u00a0 You are a\r\nbrilliant man.\u00a0 You have a high IQ.\u00a0 You attribute your successes in\r\nbusiness and in life in general to your own skills, your acquired knowledge and\r\nunderstanding, and your own ability to reason things out.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"What God is after in you is for you to\r\n\"sell\" your reasoning.\u00a0 In a sense, this is more a trade than a\r\nsale, but the principle is the same.\u00a0 You are giving up your own reasoning\r\npowers and genius to gain something of far greater value -- something that God\r\nhas for you that you've not seen or understood.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

His reaction to me was not totally unexpected.\u00a0 \"That's crazy!\" he exploded.<\/span>\u00a0 \"That\r\nmakes no sense whatever.\u00a0 Look, you know that everything I have is from\r\nthe Lord.\u00a0 My<\/span> ability to reason things out is a\r\ngift from God.\u00a0 He sure isn't going to ask me to give that up!\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

He paused to catch his breath, and then continued.\u00a0\r\n\"Besides, what do you mean, \"sell\" my reasoning?\u00a0 That's\r\ndumb.\u00a0 That's not something you sell.\u00a0 I regard this as a treasure\r\nfrom the Lord that needs to be guarded.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Over the next couple of hours, I tried one way, and then\r\nanother, and then another, and then another again to help him understand that\r\nhe was making his reasoning, and mental and computational skills and abilities\r\nto be \"lord\" in his life above that which the Lord was speaking to\r\nhim.\u00a0 I<\/span> used the analogy of the Tree of the\r\nKnowledge of Good and Evil versus the Tree of Life.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"David, you're choosing to eat of the Tree of the\r\nKnowledge of Good and Evil instead of the Tree of Life.\u00a0 The<\/span> Lord is offering you the Tree of Life.\u00a0 What He is\r\noffering you is a realm of revelation and wisdom that far transcends anything\r\nyou currently know, or think you know.\u00a0 To receive it, you're going to\r\nhave to give up your trust in what you know and your ability to gain answers\r\nfor yourself.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't get\r\nthrough.\u00a0 I really felt bad for him.\u00a0 Either he just didn't\r\nunderstand, or didn't want to hear what the Lord was saying to him.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

This is a problem with many Christians today.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The Lord IS trying to bring them into a totally different\r\nrealm of living than anything they've known.\u00a0 The problem is that they're\r\nafraid to let go of everything they know.\u00a0 They continue to desire and\r\nprefer the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.\u00a0 It isn't\r\nthat they're choosing evil necessarily -- although it WILL most certainly\r\nbecome part of their lives as a result of their choices.\u00a0 Rather, what is\r\nhappening is that they are choosing \"Good,\" or more accurately, that\r\nwhich they see or perceive as \"Good.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

If they feel in control of the circumstances, then things\r\nare \"Good.\"\u00a0 If they feel like the direction God wants to take\r\nthem in will move them out of their comfort zone, they will simply\r\nresist......and resist......and resist......and resist......and resist, until\r\nthe choice they've made to resist God's chosen will and direction in their\r\nlives results in catastrophe.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As long as folks try to figure God out, or respond to Him\r\nonly when it feels \"right\" or \"comfortable\" or\r\n\"logical,\" they are violating the first of the Ten Commandments by\r\nmaking themselves to be God instead of the Lord.\u00a0 Sadly<\/span>,\r\nmany would-be Christians refuse to hear the Word of the Lord because it doesn't\r\njive with what they want to hear or respond to.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Stop and think about it for a second.\u00a0 When your\r\nacquired knowledge becomes the standard by which you judge things instead of\r\nwhat God says and is saying, you've fallen prey to the deceiver, Satan himself.\u00a0\r\nThis is precisely what Satan pulled on Eve.\u00a0 By tricking her into having\r\nsecond thoughts about God's command not to touch the fruit of the Tree of\r\nKnowledge, he got her to reason things out.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Once she began to reason things out, that which God had\r\nspecifically warned Adam and Eve NOT to touch suddenly became desirable.\u00a0\r\nOnce it became desirable, the urge to try it was irresistible.\u00a0 Once the\r\nirresistible urge took over, disobedience was the natural consequence.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

So it was with David Dorsett.\u00a0 But God was about to\r\ngive David a second -- and even a third -- chance to hear and understand what\r\nHe was saying.\u00a0 He was about to offer him once again the Tree of Life if\r\nhe would reject the temptation to eat of the Tree of Knowledge.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That's where we will pick up this narrative in the next\r\nCoffee Break.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Kingdom Economics is a system under which we return to the\r\npriorities of life established by God in the Garden.\u00a0 Our<\/span>\r\nassignment from God is our<\/u> priority.\u00a0 Our provision is His<\/u>\r\npriority.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The Blessing of the Lord be<\/span> upon\r\nyou.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
