<\/nobr>Well, let's see if we can get on with the day\r\ntoday.\u00a0 Hi<\/span>, Y'all!<\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Have you ever heard, or heard about, Ed Silvoso<\/span> and Market Place Ministries<\/i>?\u00a0 Ed is an\r\nArgentinean businessman and evangelist to whom the Lord revealed a unique\r\nmethodology for transforming communities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.\u00a0\r\nOver the course of the past few years, Ed has been personally involved in the\r\ntransformation of some 50 communities.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

One of the quite extraordinary stories is that of Elk\r\nRiver, Minnesota -- a community that once suffered with the highest teenage\r\nsuicide rate per capita in the nation.\u00a0 As Ed Silvoso<\/span>\r\nshared with the business community, the churches, and the local political\r\nleaders, they took seriously the message of setting aside their differences,\r\ntheir religious doctrines and their political preferences in exchange for the\r\nGospel and sharing it in very personal ways -- in the bank (praying with bank\r\ncustomers who were experiencing problems), in the restaurant (waitresses and\r\nwaiters sharing with customers), in the public schools, at the car dealerships,\r\nthe fast food places, the department stores, and you name it!<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Over a period of months, Elk River was literally transformed\r\nby the Gospel.\u00a0 The suicide rate didn't just go down, it vanished\r\nentirely!\u00a0 Today, if you drive through the town, you will find a community\r\nscarcely resembling the town of a few short years ago.\u00a0 Pastors<\/span>\r\nand church leaders discovered that their doctrinal differences didn't mean\r\nsquat in God's economy!\u00a0 They learned how to set aside those differences\r\nin order to fast and pray over the town, over its leaders, over its\r\nbusinesspeople, over the schools and the educational system.\u00a0 People began\r\nto work together, pray together, play together and do business together as\r\nthough the town was nothing more than one large family.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I share all this because since Herman TeVelde<\/span>\r\nand Jerry Haak<\/span> (both local businessmen and farmers)\r\npicked up the vision and began to share it with us last Spring<\/span>,\r\nSunnyside, Washington is a community undergoing change!\u00a0 Transformation\r\nSunnyside -- Herm and Jerry's header for this effort -- has captured the\r\nattention of business and political leaders throughout the Yakima Valley, and\r\npastors and church leaders, community and education leaders are working\r\ntogether in a unified effort to accomplish here exactly what Elk River,\r\nMinnesota has experienced.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

On November 3rd and 4th, Ed Silvoso<\/span>\r\nis coming to Sunnyside to share with the community, and he will be speaking on\r\nthe 3rd at the Community Center, and on the evening of the 4th at the Sunnyside\r\nHigh School Auditorium.\u00a0 If<\/span> you live anywhere in\r\nthe Yakima Valley or the Tri-Cities area, I strongly recommend that you make\r\nplans to come.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Must be time for our first swig of\r\ncoffee for the day.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0 I've got\r\ntwo French Presses full to the brim, and the aroma is absolutely heavenly.\u00a0\r\nToday's coffee is some very dark-roasted Sumatran.\u00a0 Pour yourself a cup\r\nand pull up a chair.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It was right at the end of June when I did a couple of\r\nCoffee Breaks to sort of whet your appetite on the topic of Economics: Kingdom\r\nEconomics, that is.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As I noted back then, I'm not an economist and I've been\r\naway from my involvement in the world of banking for nearly 20 years.\u00a0 Nevertheless<\/span>, I have always had an avid interest in\r\neconomics, investments, currencies, stocks and bonds.\u00a0 One of my favorite\r\ntimes to watch television is the Saturday morning block of financial programs\r\non Fox News.\u00a0 Added to that is the recent launch of Fox Business News\r\n(Channel 359, if you are a DirecTV subscriber) with Neil Cavuto<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When I first began this series, I commented on the stark\r\ncontrast between the economic systems of this world, and the Kingdom<\/st1:PlaceType> of God<\/st1:PlaceName><\/st1:place>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We all think of money as a medium of exchange -- and in\r\nthis world's economy, it is THE medium or currency of exchange.\u00a0 In<\/span> the Kingdom of God, money DOES get used, but it isn't the\r\nmedium of exchange or the primary currency.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The kingdoms of this world focus on the getting of money,\r\nmore money and even more money; and they trade on the maxim of the \"Golden\r\nRule\": \"Them that's got the gold makes the rules.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Funny thing, the Word of God even backs that up to a\r\ncertain extent.\u00a0 Proverbs<\/span> 22:7 tells us,<\/span> <\/span>\"The rich ruleth<\/span> over the\r\npoor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.\"<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The issue here is how you define \"rich.\"\u00a0\r\nIf you define \"rich\" as simply having lots of money, you're wrong!\u00a0\r\nThere are tens and hundreds of thousands -- millions, even -- of people who\r\nhave hoards of money, millions of dollars in the bank, but they live in\r\npoverty.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Poverty, you see, is not defined by money, it is defined\r\nby the lack of the Blessing of Abraham, which is nothing more than the original\r\nblessing given by God in the Garden to Adam and Eve, lost to mankind through\r\nsin, and restored by love-filled faith and implicit trust in the Lord.\u00a0 We<\/span> refer to it as the \"Blessing of Abraham\"\r\nbecause that's how the Holy Spirit categorizes it throughout Scripture.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The \"Blessing\" is nothing more and nothing less\r\nthan a divine impartation which empowers people of faith to prosper\r\nspiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, relationally (is there such a\r\nword?), AND<\/st1:stockticker> financially.\u00a0 A\r\nperson who has lots of money but lacks a proper relationship with the Lord is\r\nnot prosperous.\u00a0 A person who has a good relationship with the Lord, has\r\nmoney in the bank, a good family relationship, but suffers with ill health and\r\nphysical problems is not prosperous.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Prosperity is -- to borrow a description from Jesse Duplantis<\/span> -- like a pie.\u00a0 If you only have a few\r\npieces of the pie, you have some of the ingredients of prosperity, but not\r\nwhole prosperity.\u00a0 Spiritual relationship and maturity in God is a slice\r\nof that pie.\u00a0 Physical Health is another slice.\u00a0 Money is a slice.\u00a0\r\nEmotional Health is a slice.\u00a0 Good Relationships with family is a slice.\u00a0\r\nGood Relationships with the people around you is another slice.\u00a0 Take away\r\none or more of those slices, and you've lost the wholeness of true prosperity.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Prosperity is defined in the Hebrew text of the Old\r\nTestament as<\/span>\r\n<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n(<\/span>ye<\/sup>shu\u00c3\u00b2\u00e2\u201a\u00aca\u00c3\u00b2h<\/span>)<\/span>.\u00a0 We<\/span>\r\nbetter think of it in our Anglicized \"Jesus.\"\u00a0 That Hebrew word\r\nrepresents the totality of prosperity: salvation, deliverance, aid, assistance,\r\nvictory<\/span>, complete provision, personal and physical and\r\nmaterial welfare -- hence, prosperity.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Both Hebrew and Aramaic texts of Matthew 1:21 and Luke\r\n1:31 record,<\/span>\r\n<\/span>\"Thou shalt<\/span>\r\ncall His name, Ye<\/span><\/sup>shuah<\/span>.\"<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Matthew's account adds,<\/span> <\/span>\"For\r\nHe shall \u00a0<\/span><\/span>save<\/span>\r\nHis people from their sins.\"\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>We'll\r\ncome back to a better description of this Greek word<\/span> <\/span>(<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00ec\u00b2\u02dc\u00ec\u00b2\u00b8\u00ec\u00b1\u02c6\u00ec\u00b2\u00ab<\/span><\/i><\/b>)<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>(sodzo<\/span>)<\/span> <\/span>a bit later in this series.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

In Part II of this series, I told you about a man whom we\r\nreferred to as \"Jim\" who had millions in the bank and real estate\r\nholdings who was spending his life in misery, not enjoying his material wealth\r\nand not having any clue to what living a prosperous life was all about.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Before we ran out of time in that Coffee Break, I said\r\nthat I would tell you a story of two \"Davids<\/span>\"\r\nwhose lives epitomized Jesus' experience with the \"rich young ruler\"\r\n(see Matthew 19).<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

David Salzburg (his name has been changed in this story\r\nfor obvious reasons) was in every respect the picture of the \"rich young\r\nruler.\"\u00a0 He was a young man who had inherited wealth from his family.\r\nWhatever he could imagine he could have.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

At age eighteen, David joined the Army and thought to make\r\nthe military a career.\u00a0 He quickly began to rise through the ranks.\u00a0\r\nAt age 23, he was sent to fight in Vietnam.\u00a0 As the months of conflict\r\nwore on, he saw the deliverance and protection of the Lord repeatedly.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

A day came when he was caught in an ambush.\u00a0 His\r\nsoldiers accidentally walked into an area between two separate squads of Viet\r\nCong soldiers.\u00a0 The platoon he commanded was pinned down and his men were being\r\nkilled one after another.\u00a0 They were caught in a crossfire from which\r\nthere was no escape.\u00a0 Lying flat on the ground, David cried out to the\r\nLord.\u00a0 \"Lord, if you will get me out of this conflict alive and\r\nintact, I'll do whatever you want me to do.\u00a0 I'll be whatever you want me\r\nto be.\u00a0 I'll go wherever you want me to go.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It was -- as he later said -- one of those promises made\r\nin the heat of battle when death is imminent.\u00a0 He meant it when he said\r\nit, but when he thought about it later, he never really expected God to take\r\nhim up on it.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As suddenly as the crossfire from the two Viet Cong squads\r\nhad begun it ceased.\u00a0 The<\/span> Viet Cong disappeared\r\nbefore David's remaining soldiers realized what had happened.\u00a0 They picked\r\nthemselves up from their hiding places or foxholes and realized that not\r\neveryone had been killed.\u00a0 No one knew why the VC had suddenly stopped\r\nfiring on them -- and to this day, none of them have any answers.\u00a0 They\r\njust knew that somehow, by some miracle of God, they lived to tell the tale and\r\nfight another day.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

By the time David Salzburg came home from Vietnam, the\r\nmemory of his promise to God had receded into the background, and there was no\r\ntap on his shoulder from the Holy Spirit reminding him of it.\u00a0 Understand,\r\nof course, that David had grown up in a nominally Christian home where the\r\nfamily had gone to church on Sunday, sang the hymns and gospel songs, paid\r\ntheir tithes and all that, but lacked in any evidence in their lives of the\r\ngrace, mercy, love, power and authority of the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Nearly two decades passed after David's return from\r\nVietnam.\u00a0 Both parents died, his father first, and then in 1989 or 1990\r\nhis mother.\u00a0 When she died, she left David a vast estate worth perhaps several\r\nhundred million dollars.\u00a0 Meanwhile, David in is own right, had developed\r\nhis own talents for investing and trading in real estate and was on his way to\r\nmaking his own fortune independently of his inheritance.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

A day came when he awoke early in the morning and the Holy\r\nSpirit was speaking quietly in his ear.\u00a0 \"David, do you remember the\r\npromise you made to me in Vietnam?\u00a0 Remember when you were pinned down by\r\nenemy fire and facing death and you promised that if I delivered you and\r\nbrought you safely home from Vietnam, you'd serve me, do whatever I asked and\r\ngo wherever I sent you?\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

He sat up straight in bed.\u00a0 \"Sure, Lord!\u00a0 I\r\nremember.\u00a0 What do you want of me?\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"Sell all thou hast, and come and follow me.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Something was birthed in David Salzburg in that moment.\u00a0\r\nIt was the currency of the Kingdom of God.\u00a0 Know what that is?<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Nope, it's not money.\u00a0 It's<\/span>\r\nsomething that will produce all the money, and everything else you have need of\r\nif you understand how to use it according to the principles of the Kingdom<\/st1:PlaceType> of God<\/st1:PlaceName><\/st1:place>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Faith!\u00a0 That's what it is.\u00a0 Faith.<\/span>\u00a0\r\nFaith is the currency of the Kingdom of God.\u00a0 Without it, you simply have\r\nno means to operate within and from the economy of God's Kingdom.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The apostle Paul wrote,<\/span> <\/span>\"Now\r\nthe just shall live by faith.\"<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span> <\/span>(Hebrews 10:38)\u00a0 Then he followed it up by saying,<\/span> <\/span>\"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the\r\nevidence of things not seen.\"<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0\r\n(<\/span>Hebrews 11:1)<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Get it?\u00a0 Faith has substance.\u00a0 Reality.<\/span>\u00a0 In the natural world, faith is an invisible\r\nintangible.\u00a0 In the Kingdom of God faith is the visible substance, the\r\ncurrency, the means of exchange by which both the invisible and the visible\r\nwork.\u00a0 Faith is the currency that brings the invisible (to the natural\r\neye) to manifestation in the visible realm.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Consider Hebrews 11:6:<\/span> <\/span>\"But\r\nwithout faith it is impossible to please him: for he<\/span>\r\nthat cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder<\/span> of them that diligently seek him.\"<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That's a fact!\u00a0 It is absolutely impossible to please\r\nGod -- no matter what you do -- without operational and functioning faith\r\nworking in and through you.\u00a0 It matters not how many good deeds you do.\u00a0\r\nIt matters not how many people you help.\u00a0 It matters not how many times a\r\nweek you go to church.\u00a0 It makes not one whit of difference how much money\r\nyou put in the offering, how faithful you are in paying tithes, or whatever.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

People do these things all the time, and they do them by rote\r\n-- NOT by faith -- and never realize that God gets no pleasure from them or\r\ntheir deeds.\u00a0 He<\/span> couldn't be less impressed with\r\nall that they do because of the absence of faith.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

In Romans 10:17, Paul writes,<\/span> <\/span>\"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the\r\nword of God.\"<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00c2\u00a0 And that's\r\nexactly what happened to David Salzburg.\u00a0 He HEARD the Word of the Lord in\r\nhis spirit.\u00a0 That Word produced faith.\u00a0 Suddenly David had something\r\nfar more valuable than all the hundreds of millions of dollars credited to his\r\nname.\u00a0 He had a currency of inestimable and eternal value -- a currency\r\nthat would produce everything he would ever need: the faith that comes by\r\nhearing the Word: the faith that produces manifested results.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

David would later say,<\/span><\/span> <\/span>I stopped everything I was doing.\u00a0 I surrendered my\r\nlife to the Lord at that moment in time.\u00a0 I started the process of liquidating\r\nall of my holdings.\u00a0 I sold off the huge estate, my fancy cars, my yacht\u00a0 <\/span>everything<\/span>.\u00a0\r\nThen I asked the Lord to show me where He wanted me to put all that money.\u00a0\r\nIt took me almost two years to get rid of it all.\u00a0 In<\/span>\r\nthe meantime, I studied the Word.\u00a0 I spent time getting to know the Lord.\u00a0\r\nI spent time listening to His Spirit.\u00a0 It all came down to the day where I\r\ndisposed of my last possession, and gave away the very last dollar I had.\u00a0\r\nI closed my bank accounts, my brokerage accounts, my<\/span>\r\ninvestment accounts everything.<\/span>\u009d<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Having accomplished the first instruction of the Lord to\r\nhim, David now said to the Lord, \"OK, Lord.\u00a0 Now<\/span>\r\nwhat?\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The Lord answered him and said, \"I want you to begin\r\nto travel about.\u00a0 I\u2019ll provide you with the rides, the places to stay,\r\nhomes to spend time in, food to eat whatever your needs are for the moment \u00a0<\/span>but I want you to travel where I send you and\r\nspeak to the people I put you with, and say to them, Sell all thou hast, and\r\ncome and follow me.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And that's exactly what David Salzburg did.\u00a0 He\r\nbecame a modern-day itinerant prophet with a very direct and very specific\r\nmessage targeted to just those people to whom the Holy Spirit sent him.\u00a0\r\nIt was a message directed to modern-day \"rich young rulers\" whose\r\nlives were based in the economy of this world.\u00a0 For a number of years he\r\ntraveled wherever and whenever the Lord ordered his steps.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

If someone offered him a ride, he took the ride knowing\r\nthat the individual offering the ride needed to hear the Word of the Lord in\r\ntheir life.\u00a0 He<\/span> hitch-hiked from city to city,\r\nfrom state to state across the nation, sometimes being directed to stay put in\r\nsomeone's home for a time until the Lord indicated to him that he had delivered\r\nall the Word that needed to be delivered.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

During the years that he traveled, he never lacked for\r\nfood or money.\u00a0 Interestingly, David Salzburg refused to take money from\r\nthose to whom he delivered the message God had given him.\u00a0 \"<\/span>The Word of the Lord is not for sale,\" he would\r\nsay.\u00a0 \"God is my source, and He provides all that I have need\r\nof.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There is a fascinating parallel -- and a fascinating\r\ndifference -- in the lives of the rich young ruler of Matthew 19, and our\r\nmodern \"rich young ruler\" in David Salzburg.\u00a0 We<\/span>\r\ndon't have time to explore it today, so let's stop here and pick up our\r\nnarrative from Matthew 19 in our next Coffee Break.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
