ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: SUPERNATURAL MATURITY, Part 16<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

We may run long today as we wrap up this series, so let's get\r\nright to it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Here\r\nagain is the amplified and re-translated portion of this passage from Matthew\r\n5:14-16:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

[When I said, \u201cLight be,\u201d that was the light that brought this\r\nworld into being. I AM that light.] (Because you are in me, and I AM in you,\r\nyou are \u2014 likewise \u2014 the light of this world. That is a light one cannot hide.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

[As representatives of the New Jerusalem] you are like that City\r\nwhich is elevated on a high hill or mountain and cannot be hidden from view.\r\n(You have been made and destined to be visible to this world.)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(Matthew 5:14, RAC\r\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

No one lights a candle, and then hides it under some kind of\r\ncovering or utensil. Rather, they put the candle on some kind of lampstand<\/span> or decorative piece in order to elevate it so as\r\nto give light to the whole room.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let that light (My light) which is in you, therefore, radiate\r\nbrilliantly in front of all men and women so that the value of your\r\nrelationship with and in Me \u2014 manifested in the works, the signs and wonders \u2014\r\nis demonstrated. That, in turn, will cause Father in Heaven to receive glory\r\nand honor and praise!<\/span>(Matthew\r\n5:15-16, RAC Translation and Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\nwere in the midst of a true story last week about an atheist professor stuck\r\nwith theories of duality who was doing his best to convince his students that\r\nfaith was ethereal, that God is both good and bad, and that light and darkness\r\nboth coexist. Let's finish that story today.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as\r\ndarkness?'<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'Yes,' the professor replies without hesitation. 'What is night\r\nif it isn't darkness?'<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the\r\nabsence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light,\r\nflashing light, but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and it's\r\ncalled darkness, isn't it? That's the meaning we use to define the word. In\r\nreality, darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker,\r\nwouldn't you?'<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him.\r\nThis will be a good semester. 'So what point are you making, young man?'<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is\r\nflawed to start with, and so your conclusion must also be flawed.'<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The professor's face cannot hide his surprise this time.\r\n'Flawed? Can you explain how?'<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'You are working on the premise of duality,' the student\r\nexplains. 'You argue that there is life and then there's death; a good God and\r\na bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we\r\ncan measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and\r\nmagnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the\r\nfact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite\r\nof life, just the absence of it. Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your\r\nstudents that they evolved from a monkey?'<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young\r\nman, yes, of course I do.'<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?'<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The professor begins to shake his head, still smiling, as he\r\nrealizes where the argument is going. A very good semester, indeed.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work\r\nand cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not\r\nteaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a preacher?'<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The class is in uproar. The student remains silent until the\r\ncommotion has subsided.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'To continue the point you were making earlier to the other\r\nstudent, let me give you an example of what I mean.' The student looks around\r\nthe room. 'Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor's\r\nbrain?'<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The class breaks out into laughter.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain,\r\nfelt the professor's brain, touched or smelt the professor's brain? No one\r\nappears to have done so.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cSo, according to the established rules of empirical, testable,\r\ndemonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, with all due\r\nrespect, sir. So if science says you have no brain, how can we trust your\r\nlectures, sir?'<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now the room is silent. The professor just stares at the\r\nstudent, his face unreadable. Finally, after what seems an eternity, the old\r\nman answers.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'I guess you'll have to take them on faith.'<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

'Now, you accept that there is faith, and, in fact, faith exists\r\nwith life,' the student continues. 'Now, sir, is there such a thing as evil?'<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now uncertain, the professor responds, 'Of course, there is. We\r\nsee it every day. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is\r\nin the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These\r\nmanifestations are nothing else but evil.'<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

To this the student replied, 'Evil does not exist sir, or at\r\nleast it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. Just\r\nlike darkness and cold, evil is a word that man has created to describe the\r\nabsence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens\r\nwhen man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that\r\ncomes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light.'<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The professor sat down.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The student\u2019s name \u2014 (and this attribution is in dispute):\r\nAlbert Einstein.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

My\r\napologies for such a lengthy story, but the picture painted here in this\r\ndiscussion with the professor highlights the problem our modern believers have\r\nwith the concept of us being\u00a0\u201cthe light of\r\nthe world:\u201d<\/span><\/b>\u00a0duality!<\/o:p><\/b><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nworld at large treats darkness as a force to be reckoned with like light. But,\r\nas noted in this recorded discussion, darkness is simply the absence of light.\r\nDarkness, therefore \u2014 from both a literal and metaphorical perspective, is the\r\nabsence of light.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Skip\r\nahead with me in Jesus\u2019 \u201cSermon on the Mount\u201d to look at how He amplifies and\r\nclarifies His statement that we, as His brethren \u2014 heirs and joint-heirs with\r\nHim, are\u00a0<\/span>\u201cthe light of the world.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Matthew\r\n6:22-23, KJV<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span>The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine<\/span> eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of\r\nlight.\u00a0But if thine<\/span> eye be evil, thy whole body\r\nshall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness,\r\nhow great\u00a0is<\/i>\u00a0that darkness!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Because\r\nmuch of this terminology is a series of Hebrew metaphors (albeit translated\r\ninto Greek), let me re-translate this passage and amplify it from the\r\nmetaphors.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cThe place and means of revelation, knowledge and understanding\r\nis that window into our soul we refer to as \u201cthe mind\u2019s eye.\u201d So long as you\r\ndiscipline your mind to receive only, and focus on, that revelation which comes\r\nfrom and through the Spirit of God, your entire being will be filled with, and\r\nradiate, that light which brings the presence and revelation of Father God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cIf, however, your \u201cmind\u2019s eye\u201d is darkened and blinded to\r\nspiritual revelation which comes from and through Holy Spirit, and willfully\r\nmakes itself ignorant of the things of God while pursuing ungodliness and moral\r\ndepravity, your whole being will exist in \u201cinformation-based\u201d spiritual\r\ndarkness.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cIf, as a consequence, all that you have taken into your being\r\nis information (which pleases your flesh) devoid of revelation by the Spirit of\r\nGod, then how great (and consequential) is that darkness and ignorance of\r\ndivine things, along with its associated wickedness!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(Matthew 6:22-23, RAC\r\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\ntalked about this warning that God gave to Moses when He showed him the results\r\nof Israel\u2019s being blessed by its obedience to, and walking in, obedience to His\r\nWord, as well as the consequences of ignoring that Word. God describes to Moses\r\nthe consequences of willful disobedience and walking according to the dictates\r\nand focuses of their own will and mind\u2019s eye.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Deuteronomy\r\n28:29<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span>And thou shalt<\/span> grope at noonday, as\r\nthe blind gropeth<\/span> in darkness, and thou shalt<\/span> not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt<\/span>\r\nbe only oppressed and spoiled evermore, and no man shall save\u00a0thee<\/i>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Quite\r\nobviously, this was a reference to\u00a0<\/span>\u201cthe light that is in thee\u201d<\/span>\u00a0being darkness!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\nwill cover this in greater depth in the weeks to come, but let\u2019s get back to\r\nthe truth that underlies all these Scriptures we have discussed thus far.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

John\r\n8:12<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>Then spake<\/span> Jesus again unto them,\r\nsaying,\u00a0I am the light of the world<\/u>: he that followeth<\/span>\r\nme shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Not\r\nlong after Jesus said this, He and His disciples happened to pass by a man\r\nblind from birth. The disciples made a normal assumption that the blindness was\r\na product of sin and asked Jesus whether the sin was the result of the man\u2019s\r\nparents\u2019 sin, or whether the man himself had sinned. (Maybe they didn\u2019t know at\r\nthe time that the blindness was from birth, or else they assumed that just\r\nbecause he was born into a sinful world the blindness was a byproduct of that\r\nbirth.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

In\r\nany case, Jesus used the occasion to draw some metaphors that they would easily\r\nrelate to.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

John\r\n9:3-5<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span>Jesus answered, \u201cNeither hath this man sinned, nor his parents:\r\nbut that the works of God should be made manifest in him.\u00a0I must work the\r\nworks of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can\r\nwork.\u00a0As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Are\r\nyou seeing the metaphors? Here\u2019s the first one.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cI must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

In\r\nother words,\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI have to do those things that Father sent me to do while the\r\ntime of revelation is still available to those whose spirits and mind are open\r\nto see and understand the revelation.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(John 9:4, RAC\r\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Then\r\nHe follows it by saying this:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cA time is coming when My Spirit will no longer be here and\r\navailable to bring revelation and understanding to those who are spiritually\r\nblind; and when that takes place no one will be able to share truths in such a\r\nway that those outside My Kingdom will be able to receive and respond.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cAs long as I am present in the world (whether in person or in\r\nmy onoma<\/span>) \u2014 by and with My Spirit moving through you\r\n\u2014 the light and life and revelation of all that I am continues to be\r\navailable.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(John 9:4-5, RAC\r\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Take\r\nanother look at what we\u2019ve just heard and seen Jesus say:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

First,\r\nHe says that\u00a0HE IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD!\u00a0<\/b>He is not only the\r\ncreative force that spoke the world into existence when those fateful words\r\nwere spoken,\u00a0<\/span>\u201cLight be!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0He is the continuing source of that same creative\r\nforce, that same creative light that exploded causing the universe to come into\r\nbeing.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

In\r\nChrist Jesus IS the revelation of creation! In Christ Jesus IS the revelation\r\nof the Kingdom of God! In Christ Jesus IS the revelation of the end of sin, the\r\ncurse, sickness, disease, infirmity and death! In Christ Jesus IS the light of\r\nthis world!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There's\r\nstill more to go in this discussion. I thought maybe I could wrap this up\r\ntoday, but there's just too much to share, so let's leave it here for today and\r\ncome back to it next week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
