ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: SUPERNATURAL MATURITY, Part 10<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let's begin again today with the amplified version of Jesus'\r\ndeclaration of blessing for those who are persecuted:<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Matthew 5:10-12<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u201cBlessed and highly favored by the King [of Kings] are those who\r\nare harassed, molested, mistreated, or pursued after with hostile intent simply\r\nbecause they have been justified [by faith (in Jesus Christ and His\r\nanointing)]; royalty, and Kingdom rule shall be theirs.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Blessed and highly favored by the King [of Kings] whenever men\r\nor women will seek to defame you, to rail at you or taunt you, harassing and\r\npursuing you with malice, saying in public or writing false and hurtful\r\naccusations about you to others, seeking to ruin your reputation because of\r\nyour relationship with me [on account of Who I AM \u2014 and who you are in me.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Rejoice \u2014 exult, sing, dance, enjoy yourself \u2014 because each time\r\nyou are mistreated for my sake, your reward and place at the Seat of Order in\r\nthings eternal is enhanced and magnified.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Consider yourself in the same company of the prophets before you\r\nwho likewise were harassed, molested, mistreated, defamed, and falsely accused\r\nbecause of My Word in and through them.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(RAC Translation and\r\nAmplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cDivide\r\nand conquer\u201d has always been a strategy in the arsenal of the Enemy, and it is\r\nno more evident than his use of it in families where he makes every effort to\r\nturn parents against children, children against parents, and \u2014 whenever\r\npossible \u2014 spouse against spouse.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\npicture of internecine warfare that Jesus draws becomes even more evident when\r\nwe see it within the family of God. It is how denominations have been created.\r\nIt is one of the most-used tools of Satan to bring persecution against people\r\nwho seek to respond to the continual draw of Holy Spirit towards greater and\r\ngreater intimacy with the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

During\r\nthe Charismatic Renewal, I saw this demonstrated again and again. As I recall,\r\nit was Bob Mumford who made the statement, \u201cThe reformers of the new generation\r\nwill always be persecuted by the former generation. Those who become a part of\r\nthe new move of God will always be persecuted by those of the former move of\r\nGod.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Once\r\nagain, as we continue to draw the picture, I remind you that\u00a0<\/span>Men and women in a covenant relationship with Me will find\r\n[even] their non-covenanting [spiritual] family members to be their hostile\r\nadversaries (who will fight and oppose them).<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nMartin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Wittenberg Chapel, he\r\nwasn't trying to make a break with the Roman Catholic church, of which he was a\r\npart. He simply was seeking to share with those who would hear and respond a\r\nmessage of freedom in Christ Jesus \u2014 namely, that \u201cthe Just shall live by\r\nfaith.\u201d Because of the traditions and the politics which ruled the Catholic\r\nchurch, he was ostracized, criticized, eventually ex-communicated, and numerous\r\nattempts were made on his life in order to silence him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nJohn Wycliffe sought to make the Word of God available to the common people by\r\nfirst translating it from Greek and Hebrew (or Latin) into the language of the\r\nday, every effort was made to shut down the effort and stop the presses; and\r\nrepeated attempts were made on his life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\r\nsame pattern has followed, even to this modern day. But consider the blessing!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Every\r\neffort to silence the Word, every effort to silence those who moved beyond\r\ntheir religious traditions and religious doctrines because of Holy Spirit\u2019s\r\nleading and ongoing revelation, has only resulted in a greater spread of the\r\nGospel of the Kingdom.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

In\r\nthe majority of instances where people have moved on in God, even in the midst\r\nof persecution, they have experienced the Blessing of the King of Kings on\r\ntheir own lives, many who sought to persecute them have, themselves, come under\r\nthe conviction of the Spirit and have repented of their opposition and\r\npersecution and, in a twist of irony, have been persecuted themselves because\r\nof their response to the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

My\r\ngreat-great grandfather, John Capener<\/span>, left England\r\nin 1836 and the Anglican church where he had been a vicar to emigrate to the\r\nUnited States. His brother, William, joined him in the move. Sometime after\r\narriving in this country, he began ministering in a Presbyterian church in\r\nColumbus, Ohio. I have no details of the specific breach or religious argument\r\nthat William had with John over his departure from the Church of England, but\r\nwhatever prompted John to become a Presbyterian pastor so angered William that\r\nhe cut off all relationship and connection.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Some\r\ntime thereafter, William joined Brigham Young and assisted in the organization\r\nand westward move of the Mormons from Nauvoo, Illinois to Salt Lake City. The\r\nfamily breach lasted for a full century until the early 1950\u2019s when my uncle,\r\nEverett Capener<\/span> (who was with the Strategic Air\r\nCommand at the time) stopped over in Salt Lake City and discovered literal\r\npages in the phone book of Capeners<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\r\nled to a major family reunion that year between the two branches of the Capener<\/span> family, and another the following year in 1954. A\r\nlittle over a decade later when I resigned at Bethel Union Church in Duarte,\r\nCalifornia rather than compromise teaching and sharing on the baptism of the\r\nHoly Spirit, a Mormon cousin, Dr. Jex<\/span> Capener<\/span>, invited me to move to Salt Lake City \u2014 a move\r\nwhich ultimately led to the Eskdale<\/span> Miracle and the\r\nsalvation and deliverance of an entire community.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Although\r\nmy grandparents had not been exposed to the Azusa Street Revival during the\r\nfirst decade of the 20th century, as they began to seek after greater\r\nrevelation and pursue the presence of the Lord, they were baptized in the Holy\r\nSpirit, along with a number of people who were gathered together in their home.\r\nIt all took place in the midst of the sound of a rushing mighty wind (a\r\ntornado) and a flame of fire which broke apart and settled on the heads of all\r\nthe people gathered for prayer.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

My\r\ngrandfather was a Methodist preacher who was shortly thereafter removed from\r\nhis pulpit because the denominational leaders did not believe that the baptism\r\nof the Holy Spirit was a legitimate experience for this modern time, and\r\nconsidered that Grandpa had wandered off into error and heresy.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

His\r\nremoval from the pulpit did not stop his preaching. He simply followed the New\r\nTestament pattern in ministering from his home, and it resulted in a new generation\r\nof people who, themselves, became the leaders and ministers of the Kingdom in\r\nthe years following.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

As\r\nnoted in our previous session on being peacemakers, when my father announced to\r\nhis denominational leaders that the time had come for our family to move to\r\nAlaska, they argued against it because of the expense involved and tried to\r\nconvince him that he would do better by going to Africa or China. When he made\r\nit clear that God had called him to Alaska, and not Africa or China, they\r\nforbid him to go and told him that if he tried, they would cut off his\r\nfinancial backing.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

You\u2019ve\r\nalready heard the story of how God provided the finances for the ministry in\r\nAlaska through the stupendous fishing miracle, and what a blessing it produced\r\n\u2014 not only for the tens of thousands of natives scattered across the arctic in\r\nAlaska, Canada, Greenland, and even Siberia \u2014 but for our family as well. It\r\nwas some five years or more before the denominational leaders realized that\r\nthey had really missed it and chose to back our family\u2019s ministry in Alaska.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nDad went home to be with the Lord, people came from all over the world to his\r\nfuneral and memorial service. Despite the fact that his denominational leaders\r\nrejected the concept of the five-fold ministry of apostles, prophets,\r\nevangelists, pastors and teachers, I was able to share with the assembled folks\r\nthe apostolic impact that my father had made in the roughly 50 years of his\r\nlabors throughout Washington and Alaska. When I finished sharing, one of his\r\nfellow-ministers stood and recited an incredible poem he wrote about Dad which\r\nhe titled, My Friend, the Apostle.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

None\r\nof Dad\u2019s detractors in those early years, who sought to block him from going to\r\nAlaska, could possibly have foreseen the fact that God would use the isolation\r\nof native villages to bring in visitors from all over the globe as tourists\r\nwhom he would lead to the Lord, including the Muslim bodyguards of Jordan\u2019s\r\n(then) King Hussein.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019ve\r\nyet to attend another memorial service for anyone who has been so honored by\r\npeople from all over the globe, and honored by God on account of their\r\nfaithfulness in the midst of opposition and persecution.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Following\r\nthis same the me to show you both the persecution that often follows\r\n generationally, along with the Blessing of God, let me wrap up today's discussion\r\n with a final story.<\/span>\r\n <\/o:p>\r\n <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Judson\r\n Cornwall was one of the Charismatic Renewal\u2019s more prominent leaders, and a\r\n pastor whom I had met and gotten to know in the early 1960\u2019s. In 1976, while\r\n trying to reconcile the counsel of brethren to remain in southern California\r\n and go to work to pay off some serious indebtedness BEFORE responding to the\r\n quickening of the Lord to return to Alaska, I sent out a resume to perhaps 30\r\n or more major organizations seeking employment either as an engineer or an\r\n instructor at a University. That resulted in three very prompt job offers \u2014 one\r\n of which would take me back to NASA to run one of their satellite tracking\r\n stations.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Judson\r\nhappened to be in Costa Mesa for a World Map Conference that summer of 1976, so\r\nI went to him for counsel. My quandary was that the pull of Holy Spirit to\r\nAlaska was immediate \u2014 NOT after the bills were paid. Judson\u2019s counsel was that\r\n\u201cGod has a way of making provision for everything He requires of us, and I\r\nsuspect that He will more than provide for you if you will respond to His\r\nspecific\u00a0 Word.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Several\r\nof my friends and brethren at the time did their best to convince me to stay\r\nand take one of the offers presented, but I began making preparations for the\r\nmove to Alaska right away. In the meantime, my father suggested that I join him\r\non Saint Paul Island to do some fox trapping. That would turn out to be an\r\neffort that would result in generating some start-up capital for the Christian\r\nBroadcasting Network in Alaska \u2014 and that was one of my purposes in returning.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Arriving\r\nin Anchorage, I ran into a pastor I had known for many years whom we will\r\nsimply refer to as \u201cPaul.\u201d He saw me in a church on my first Sunday in\r\nAnchorage (I had to wait for the weather to clear in order to fly to Saint Paul\r\nIsland) and caught my attention.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Paul\r\ncame up to greet me and tears began running down his face as he said, \u201cI need\r\nto ask you to forgive me.\u201d That took me totally by surprise and I responded,\r\n\u201cBrother! What in the world do I need to forgive you for?\u201d His response astonished\r\nme.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cYou\r\nremember some ten years ago or more when you made application for the mission\r\nstation at Nenana<\/span>?\u201d I nodded my head and said, \u201cI\r\nnever could figure out why I got the negative response I did from the Home\r\nMissions Department.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cThat\r\nwas my doing,\u201d he answered. \u201cI wrote letters to them accusing you of leaving\r\nNome with a lot of debt hanging over your head and a bad testimony in the\r\ncity.\u201d Since I had taken pains to ensure that my debts were paid before\r\nleaving, his answer made no sense. The puzzlement on my face spoke volumes.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cI\r\nknew that if they accepted you and appointed you to that station, it would be\r\none more vote for your father to become the District Superintendent, and I\r\nwanted that position. I knew that if you were blocked from taking it, I would\r\nhave a much better chance when the voting came.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cBrother\r\nPaul,\u201d I responded. \u201cDad wouldn\u2019t have taken the position even if he had been\r\nvoted in. He detested the organizational politics and wanted none of it. He\r\nfelt that it would prevent him from fulfilling God\u2019s specific call to the\r\nvillages, and that call was far more important to him than the recognition and\r\ntitles of the denomination.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Paul\r\nanswered and said, \u201cI realize that now, and God has made it very clear to me\r\nthat I am to put my house in order. Because I have touched God\u2019s anointed,\r\njudgment has fallen on me and I have less than two years to live. I now have\r\nALS.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\r\nshook me. I wept as I put my arms around him and said, \u201cMy brother, whatever\r\nyou meant for my evil, God intended and used for my good! The Lord has\r\ndelivered me from the need to be associated with denominations and\r\norganizations, and that deliverance has permitted me to work across\r\ndenominational and organizational lines to minister wherever and whenever He so\r\norders.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Paul\r\nB. died some 19 or 20 months later. It was sobering to me to realize just how\r\nseriously God treats the persecution and opposition of those who stand against\r\nHis anointed.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Over\r\nthe next six months, Dad and I trapped 208 arctic blue foxes. It generated some\r\nstartup capital for the CBN ministry in Alaska. More than that, people who\u2019d\r\nnever met me and didn\u2019t know me began sending checks and money orders saying\r\nthat God instructed them to do so because I \u201chad a need that had to be met.\u201d My\r\n$17,000 indebtedness vanished in less than a year!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nopposition and persecution only increased when I went to Barrow, but the\r\nblessing that followed that opposition was the gift of my counterpart, Della\r\nDenise!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Next\r\nweek let's wrap this up and talk about some personal experiences, and the\r\nultimate long-term blessing that came from that persecution.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n
