ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: SUPERNATURAL MATURITY, Part 6<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When we paused in this discussion last week, we were talking\r\nabout the presence of the Lord as it manifested in the cloud. This is a\r\ndiscussion that could take us way off track if we followed the rabbit trail,\r\nbut I'm really just wanting to draw some illustrations for you to help in\r\nunderstanding what Jesus means when He speaks of \"the pure in heart.\"<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Picking\r\nup from last week, the cloud was darkness to the Egyptians, but it was light to\r\nthe camp of Israel. Consider the cloud in the way that it rested in the temple\r\non the day that Solomon dedicated it to the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

I Kings 8:10-13<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>place<\/span><\/i>, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD,\u00a0So that the\r\npriests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the\r\nLORD had filled the house of the LORD.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Then spake<\/span> Solomon, The LORD said that\r\nhe would dwell in the thick darkness.\u00a0I have surely built thee an house to\r\ndwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in forever.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Drawing\r\nfrom the illustrations and the pictures drawn in these particular passages (and\r\nthere are many others we could add), this thick, dark cloud appears that way to\r\nthose people who do NOT dwell in His presence. He obscures, He hides Himself\r\nfrom the world at large \u2014 a world steeped in sin and rebellion against Him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

By\r\nthe same token, to those who \u2014 as Paul described David \u2014 are in pursuit of His\r\npresence, those who have allowed their hearts to be purified by fire, who do\r\nnot suffer from guilt and condemnation, dwell in light. When Moses and the\r\nElders ate and drank with the Lord, they didn\u2019t eat and drink in pitch\r\nblackness; they enjoyed the presence of the Lord in absolute light. Remember\r\nwhen Moses came down out of the mount with the Ten Commandments? His face shone\r\nwith such a brightness that they had to cover him with a veil.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\r\nme pause in this discussion for a minute to share with you a personal\r\nexperience.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Many\r\nyears ago, when I had my first experience of going to Heaven, those of you who\r\nremember my sharing will recall that the first part of my first experience \u2014\r\nafter being lifted out of the bed through the ceiling and traveling above the\r\nearth \u2014 was to travel through our Solar system and out into the Universe.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Obviously\r\nit was breathtaking and my attention was at first focused on the sights of our\r\nSolar system, seeing the planets, the moons, the stars, etc., and then through\r\nthe Universe, seeing the galaxies, and all the various phenomenal formations\r\nwhich came as a result of the Word,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cLight Be!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>that came forth from\r\nthe Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Here\u2019s\r\nwhere things became relevant to what we\u2019re discussing today. Traveling through\r\nthe Universe at ever-increasing acceleration was not unlike what we see in Star\r\nTrek or Star Wars, going through hyperspace. Everything began to blur as streaks\r\nof light.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Suddenly\r\nthe streaks of light were gone. There were no more stars, no more galaxies, no\r\nmore formations. We were plunged into a total, thick darkness. No matter which\r\nway my eyes turned, it was a darkness that was totally impenetrable.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\r\nme give you an example.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Close\r\nyour eyes. What do you see? It\u2019s dark \u2014 even black \u2014 but there is still a sense\r\nof light. Even if you walk into a closet and shut the door, once your eyes\r\nadjust to the darkness, you can still see things. That kind of darkness can be\r\npenetrated. It isn\u2019t so thick you can slice it with a knife.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Getting\r\nback to my experience in the midst of that darkness, that wasn\u2019t the end of it!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

This\r\nis a strange way to describe the darkness, but there was light, and plenty of\r\nit! The light was in Jesus, Himself! All I could see in that place of pitch\r\ndarkness was the Lord Jesus Christ, and in Him was all the light.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

John\r\nput it this way as he opened up his gospel:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

John\r\n1:4-5:\u00a0<\/span>In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the\r\nlight shineth<\/span> in darkness; and the darkness\r\ncomprehended it not.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\u2019s\r\namplify this so you get a better sense of what John sees and writes.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

In Him was God\u2019s [kind of] life, and that life was the same fire\r\nand luminous brightness manifesting in men (and women) [\u2014 those men and women\r\nwhose lives are purified by Him].<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

And that fiery light manifested in the midst of men (and women)\r\nwhose lives were filled with the obscure darkness which comes of the ignorance\r\nof divine things with its associated wickedness, and that spiritual darkness\r\nwas incapable of apprehending, perceiving and possessing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(John\r\n1:4-5, RAC Translation and Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now\r\ndo you see (pun intended) what I\u2019m talking about? The light that radiated from\r\nJesus as I stood next to Him and held His hand was literally the light of His\r\npresence \u2014 His Glory! It\u2019s the same light that made it possible for Moses and\r\nthe 70 Elders to eat and drink in that thick cloud with the Lord, and be\r\ntotally cut off from Israel\u2019s sight.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Getting\r\nback to my own experience, after some indistinguishable period of time, we were\r\nsuddenly standing at the gates of Heaven. Again, Heaven appeared to me as total\r\nlight. I could look behind me or from side to side, and Heaven was the only\r\nplace of light in the midst of this thick darkness.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\nknow that we have really taken this discussion down a long rabbit trail, but we\r\nreally are still talking about<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cBlessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nwe begin to realize that the very first of the Seven Spirits of God is the\r\nSpirit of Judgment and Burning, applying the concept of the heart \u2014 the\r\nthoughts, purposes, motives and intents \u2014 being purified by fire really begins\r\nto become clear.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Once\r\nwe take a look at the way Isaiah puts this in context, a whole lot of what\r\nwe\u2019ve been discussing falls into place.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Isaiah 4:4-6, NASB<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>When the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion\r\nand purged the bloodshed of Jerusalem from her midst, by the<\/span>\u00a0spirit of judgment and the spirit of burning<\/u>,<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Then the LORD will create over the whole area of Mount Zion and\r\nover her assemblies a cloud by day, even smoke, and the brightness of a flaming\r\nfire by night; for over all, the glory will be a canopy.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There will be a shelter<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(Hebrew:\r\nsukkah<\/span>: dwelling place)<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0give<\/i><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>shade from the heat by day, and refuge and protection from the\r\nstorm and the rain.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Once\r\nagain,\u00a0<\/span>\u201cBlessed and highly favored by the King [of Kings] are those\r\nwhose thoughts, motives, purposes and intents have been purified by fire, who\r\nare unstained with any guilt, for God will allow and permit them to see Him \u2014\r\nand more than that, to see into and know His heart [His heart\u2019s desires and\r\npurposes].\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

This\r\nis really where we are headed as a people. The title of this series is,\r\nSUPERNATURAL MATURITY. In truth, it is being like Jesus. Jesus KNEW the heart\r\nof Father! He KNEW with the very breath of His existence exactly what Father\r\ndesired. He KNEW the plans and purposes for a divine family \u2014 a family who\r\nwould truly be like<\/span><\/o:p>\r\n<\/span>Him,\r\nfunction with His DNA at the core of their very existence, and represent who\r\nand all that He is! So, what does Isaiah say?<\/span>\r\n<\/o:p>\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

FIRST<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>of all he says that\r\n the filth has to be washed away (strange term, \u201cwashed away\u201d, isn\u2019t it?) by the\r\n Spirit of Judgment and Burning. That\u2019s the purification of our beings, the\r\n purifying of our thoughts, our motives, even our thinking processes and modes\r\n of operation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

THEN<\/span><\/i><\/b>, he says that God will create over us (Isaiah uses the\r\nterm, \u201cMount Zion\u201d to describe a holy people. He also uses it to distinguish\r\nbetween the Bride and believers in general.) that dark cloud of His presence as\r\na means of distinguishing His people from the rest of the world.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

But\r\nhe doesn\u2019t leave it there. He draws upon the illustration of the cloud by day\r\nand the pillar of fire by night that moved with Israel throughout their 40\r\nyears in the wilderness, to contrast God\u2019s defense of us as His people.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

NEXT<\/span><\/i><\/b>, Isaiah says that the Glory of the Lord will be like a\r\ncanopy \u2014 an invisible force shield \u2014 to protect against all the forces of the\r\nEnemy.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Remember\r\nwhere all of this started? The purif<\/span>ication of our hearts, our thoughts, our\r\n minds, our agenda!<\/span>\r\n <\/o:p>\r\n <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

NOW<\/span><\/i><\/b>, he says that the Lord will<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>sukkah<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2014\r\n tabernacle \u2014 with us. He will be a covering and provision for us in the midst\r\n of waste and desolation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[The Hebrew word,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>choreb<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>is the word otherwise translated \u201cheat,\u201d and otherwise describes\r\n drought or utter dryness.]<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

If\r\nthe Lord is \u201ctabernacling<\/span>\u201d with us, then we can have\r\nabsolute confidence, hope and trust. That\u2019s the Hebrew word,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>machseh<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>translated \u201cshelter\u201d or \u201crefuge.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Lastly,\r\nthe presence of the Lord dwelling with us (and IN us) gives us protection\r\n(covert, KJV) \u2014 and a hiding place where we are sheltered in the midst of every\r\nstorm, every troubling event, every disaster, every breakdown, every unexpected\r\ntime of need.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

At\r\nage six, our family decided to go camping and berry-picking on Anvil Mountain,\r\nwhich is just a few miles out of Nome, Alaska. Dad pitched an old, army-style\r\ntent for our camping and created a bonfire perhaps ten feet in front of the\r\ntent where Mom could make coffee and fix our meals.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

After\r\na day of camping and berry-picking, Mom had just finished cleaning up the pots\r\nand pans used for making our supper. It was late summer and starting to get\r\ndark outside so we set up a makeshift table between our sleeping cots to play a\r\nfew games of Checkers before going to sleep. In the midst of one of our games,\r\nDad looked outside and stiffened up suddenly.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

He\r\ntold us to be quiet and reached for his Remington 30-06 rifle. Loading a few\r\nshells into it, he stood it up next to the tent flap and pointed out of the\r\ntent to a pair of wolves standing roughly a hundred feet away. We prayed and\r\nasked for the angel of the Lord to stand guard and went to sleep. In the\r\nmorning, there was a set of tracks in a circle about fifty feet out from the\r\ntent. The wolves never approached.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Some\r\nof you have heard me share an event that took place in Barrow, Alaska in 1980\r\nwhen I was standing in a construction shack with one of the elders in our\r\nfellowship. We had been reviewing some blueprints for the construction of a new\r\nworship center. No electricity had been run yet to the construction site, so we\r\nwere taking advantage of a good-sized window by the drafting table.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Without\r\nany warning, Holy Spirit suddenly picked both of us up physically and spread us\r\napart by perhaps 12 inches; and at that moment the window exploded as a bullet\r\npassed between us. A sniper standing on the roadway perhaps 300 feet away had\r\ntried to take me out. The Lord didn\u2019t allow it, and when I opened the door and\r\nhollered at the guy with the rifle, he turned and ran. In each of these\r\ninstances, the Lord was<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201ca\r\ncloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon\r\nall, the glory<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>was<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span>a defence<\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

These\r\nillustrations ma<\/span>y seem a bit disconnected from our original theme of\r\n \"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God,\" but when you\r\n realize that God's initial purpose in this is for us to not simply see His form\r\n and shape but to KNOW His heart and His heart's desire, things begin to fall into\r\n place.<\/span>\r\n <\/o:p>\r\n <\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\r\n me wrap up today with an amplified translation of something that Paul wrote to\r\n the Philippian<\/span> Ekklesia<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nKJV reads like this:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Philippians 3:10-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the\r\nfellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any\r\nmeans I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Not as though I had\r\nalready attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I\r\nmay apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I\r\ncount not myself to have apprehended: but\u00a0this<\/i>\u00a0one thing\u00a0I\r\ndo<\/i>, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those\r\nthings which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high\r\ncalling of God in Christ Jesus.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\nwon't try to amplify this whole passage here because it would take up more\r\nspace than I want to in this Coffee Break, but let me just deal with the last\r\npart of it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

My brothers and sisters, in taking inventory of myself and where\r\nI have come to in my growth and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, I do\r\nnot consider that I have yet possessed that place where I am yet completed and\r\nfinished, but this one sole consideration grips my thoughts and objective: I\r\npurpose to forget the past, I purpose to lay aside my failures (as well as the\r\nmental reasonings<\/span> and prior experiences) and stretch\r\nforth with my whole being to that goal which lies before me; I eagerly pursue\r\n[without mental reservation] with my entire being that goal where the high prize<\/span> above all prizes and rewards awaits: being so ONE\r\nwith Jesus Christ that His nature is my nature, His thoughts are my thoughts,\r\nHis purposes are my purposes, and I am a part of His bridal company -- His\r\nCounterpart and Other Self!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(Philippians 3:13-14,\r\nRAC Translation and Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

There\r\nis so much is what Paul is saying here that it is almost difficult to properly\r\nexpress it, but if there ever was a picture of being \"pure in heart,\"\r\nhe has articulated it!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n
