ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: SUPERNATURAL MATURITY, Part 5<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let's get right to our discussion today. This concept of being\r\n\"naturally supernatural, and supernaturally natural\" is rooted and\r\ngrounded in the following truths.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We've been fitted together and joined together with Jesus Christ\r\nas a living, breathing extension of Him. This may sound simplistic, but He is\r\nus, and we are Him. Whatever He does, He does through us. Things don't happen\r\nwithout our participation. Jesus Christ does not randomly, mystically, perform\r\nmiracles in the earth, or work some kind of sign and wonder in the earth\r\nwithout the direct participation of His covenant people.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We have and live a covenant that requires our all. Jesus has\r\nmade a covenant with us that requires His all -- and the last time I checked,\r\nHe hadn't left anything out or stopped His covenant partners from living in,\r\nand operating in all that He is and has.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Folks, His covenant is as alive and breathing today as it was\r\nwhen He said,<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"All<\/span> <\/span>(exousia<\/span>)<\/span><\/i><\/b>\r\n<\/span>privilege, force, authority, power and jurisdiction is given\r\nunto me in Heaven and in earth. You go, therefore..\"<\/span> <\/span>. <\/span>(Matthew\r\n28:18-19a)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That's OUR responsibility. Our covenant responsibility to the\r\nLord is to do the works that He did, to preach the Word that He preached, and\r\n-- moreover -- to fulfill His prophetic Word,<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"Verily, verily I say unto you. He that believeth on me,\r\nthe works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do\r\nbecause I go unto my Father.\"<\/span>\r\n<\/span>(John\r\n14:12)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

This is where I want to go today as we continue from Jesus'\r\nteaching in Matthew 5. Before we can become this mature extension of the Lord\r\nJesus Christ, living, breathing and operating in His character, His nature, His\r\npersonality -- the very essence of Who He is -- our thoughts, our way of\r\nthinking, our motives and personal agenda have to be expunged from everything\r\nwe have learned and gained as a result of eating of the Tree of the Knowledge\r\nof Good and Evil.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That tree is the very epitome of the spirit of anti-Christ.\r\nAgain, as a reminder, <\/span><\/b>anti <\/span><\/i><\/b>in\r\nGreek is not \"against\" (as the Latin translates it) but rather\r\n\"a substitute for.\" Eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and\r\nEvil causes us to substitute ourselves, our motives, our reasoning processes\r\nand our decisions for the heart's desires of the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

For\r\nthat reason, Jesus makes the following statement as He continues His\r\n\"beatitudes.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Matthew 5:8<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b>Blessed\r\nare the pure in heart, for they shall see God<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

This\r\nis a verse that needs to be amplified in the same way that we have looked at\r\nsome of the previous verses.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cBlessed and highly favored by the King [of Kings] are those\r\nwhose thoughts, motives, purposes and intents have been purified by fire, who\r\nare unstained with any guilt, for God will allow and permit them to see Him \u2014\r\nand more than that, to see into and know His heart [His heart\u2019s desires and\r\npurposes].\u201d<\/span> <\/span>(RAC Translation and Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

How\u2019s\r\nthat for a mouthful? In case you think I'm stretching it a bit with my\r\ntranslation, consider how J. H. Thayer translates the word, katharos<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> (the Greek word\r\ntranslated, \"pure\"). Thayer uses the following definitions: 1a)\r\nphysically; (1a1) purified by fire; (1a2) in a similitude, like a vine cleansed\r\nby pruning and so fitted to bear fruit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Are\r\nyou seeing how this fits with other verses of Scripture we have previously\r\nconsidered? Consider for a minute, and put this in context to Paul\u2019s statement\r\nto Timothy in his second letter:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

II Timothy 2:15<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\r\n<\/span>Be instantly responsive to the Lord, making yourself available\r\nto Him in the midst of the crucible, a tried and tested laborer who has no fear\r\nof being examined \u2014 one who, by virtue of God\u2019s testing and the time spent in\r\nthe crucible with Him, knows the proven Word of Truth.<\/span> <\/span>(RAC\r\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

But\r\nPaul doesn\u2019t just leave it there. He goes on to give the following warning to\r\nthose who ARE in the crucible and might be tempted to hear and pay attention to\r\nteaching or \u201cuntested\u201d word (or words) that comes from those who\u2019ve not\r\npermitted the word to be tested in them and purified.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

II Timothy 2:16-17<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\r\n<\/span>Stand aloof from and avoid the untested, untried \u201cword\u201d which\r\ncomes forth from them who would propagate speculation and create their own\r\ndoctrines. These profane speculations and so-called \u201cwords\u201d are empty babblings\r\nwhich will only to serve to advance ungodliness.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And those who spread these doctrines will only yield a gangrene\r\npasture \u2014 a source of poison to those who ingest their \u201cword\u201d \u2014 and we point\r\nout Hymenaeus<\/span> and Philetus<\/span>\r\nas examples.<\/span> <\/span>(RAC Translation & Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

David\r\nabsolutely understood the significance of this principle that Jesus set forth\r\nwhen he wrote the following:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Psalm 37:4<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\r\n<\/span>Delight thyself also in the Lord, and He shall give thee the\r\ndesires of thine<\/span> heart.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now,\r\ntake a look a<\/span> how the Hebrew actually renders David\u2019s\r\nstatement:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cLet your thoughts, motives, purposes and intents be soft and\r\npliable towards the Lord; luxuriate in and take exquisite delight in Him; and\r\nHe will appoint, ascribe, commit and apply in and to you the desires and\r\nrequirements of your will, your feelings, your intellect and your thought\r\nprocesses.\u201d<\/span> <\/span>(RAC Translation and Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

You\r\nsee it, don\u2019t you? In each instance we are seeing the same principle applied.\r\nWe could probably even read David\u2019s statement like this and pretty much hit it\r\non the head:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cDelight yourself also in the Lord and He will plant within you\r\nHis desires so that they become your desires.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Preaching\r\non the sabbath<\/span> in a synagogue in Antioch, Paul\r\nreaffirmed what David said, and even took it a step further to describe the\r\n\u201cwhy\u201d and importance of this principle.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Acts 13:22<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\r\n<\/span>And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be\r\ntheir king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son<\/i>\r\nof Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil<\/span>\r\nall my will.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Consider\r\njust the last part of this verse:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cI have sought out and obtained David, the son of Jesse, a man\r\nwhose intense pursuit is to know my thoughts and feelings, my intents and\r\npurposes, who will [without deviation or compromise] perform, execute and\r\naccomplish everything I purpose, determine and decree \u2014 according to my\r\ndelight, desire and pleasure.\u201d<\/span> <\/span>(RAC Translation and\r\nAmplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\npicture is that of a man (or woman) whose intense pursuit of the Lord is\r\nfocused on God getting His heart\u2019s desire fulfilled to the exclusion or setting\r\naside of all personal desires or purposes.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now,\r\nadd that to the previous Scriptures we\u2019ve looked at! The promise that God makes\r\nto them is that they will get to see him, experience His presence, and know His\r\nheart\u2019s desires.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Beyond\r\nthat, the desires of their<\/i> hearts are met and fulfilled! David expresses\r\nit like this:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Psalm 16:11<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\r\n<\/span>Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is<\/i> fulness<\/span> of joy; at thy right hand there are<\/i>\r\npleasures for evermore.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

No\r\nstatement could express it any better! That leads me to what is probably going\r\nto become something of a rabbit trail in this discussion but something\r\nnevertheless that draws as vivid a picture as I can draw.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\r\nme start with something that Paul wrote to the Corinthian Ekklesia<\/span>:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I Corinthians 12:1-4<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\r\n<\/span>Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how\r\nthat all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And\r\nwere all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the\r\nsame spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank\r\nof that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now,\r\ntake a look at the context of these next statements.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Numbers 11:24-25<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\r\n<\/span>And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD,\r\nand gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round\r\nabout the tabernacle. And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake<\/span> unto him, and took of the spirit that was<\/i> upon\r\nhim, and gave it<\/i> unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that<\/i>,\r\nwhen the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Numbers 12:5-8<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\r\n<\/span>And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in<\/i>\r\nthe door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came\r\nforth. And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I<\/i>\r\nthe LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and<\/i> will speak\r\nunto him in a dream.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

My servant Moses is<\/i> not so, who is<\/i> faithful<\/span> <\/span>(Hebrew: <\/span>\u2018aman<\/span>:<\/span><\/i><\/b>\r\n<\/span>to support, uphold,\r\nnourish, reliable, faithful, trusty)<\/span>\r\n<\/span>in all mine house. With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even\r\napparently<\/span> <\/span>(Hebrew:<\/span> <\/span>mar\u2019eh<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>appearing, seeing\r\nvisually)<\/span>,<\/span><\/b> <\/span>and not in dark speeches; and the similitude<\/span> <\/span>(Hebrew:<\/span> <\/span>temunah<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>image, likeness, form)<\/span> <\/span>of the LORD shall he behold<\/span>\r\n<\/span>(Hebrew:<\/span> <\/span>nabat<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>: <\/span><\/i><\/b>to look intently at, to regard with pleasure)<\/span>.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nHebrew phraseology in this instance is as clear as anything can be. God\r\ndescribes Moses as one who<\/span> <\/span>\u201csupported, upheld and nourished\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span>Him.\r\nThe nourishment that Moses provided God came from a pure heart.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Borrowing\r\nfrom Jesus\u2019 statement in Matthew 8, Moses\u2019<\/span>\r\n<\/span>thoughts, motives,\r\npurposes and intents had been purified by fire; He was unstained with any\r\nguilt.<\/span> <\/span>Hence, he had the privilege of seeing\r\ninto the heart of God, knowing His thoughts and desires \u2014 AND Moses was\r\npermitted into the very presence of the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\u2019s\r\nget back to the picture described in Numbers 11 and I Corinthians 12 where we\r\nread of Moses and the 70 elders eating and drinking with the Lord in the cloud.\r\nBefore I get too far along here, let\u2019s talk about the nature of this \u201ccloud\u201d\r\nand what distinguished it from all the other clouds.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Here\u2019s\r\nhow Moses describes it:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Deuteronomy 5:22<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\r\n<\/span>These words the LORD spake<\/span> unto all\r\nyour assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and\r\nof the thick darkness<\/u>, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he\r\nwrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Moses\r\ndescribes this cloud as \u201cthick darkness.\u201d Kind of peculiar, don\u2019t you think, if\r\nMoses and the elders were sitting in thick darkness? But wait a minute. This\r\nisn\u2019t quite all it appears to be. Take a look at how this cloud appeared to the\r\narmies of Pharaoh when they were chasing after the Children of Israel.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Exodus 14:19-20<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\r\n<\/span>And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel,\r\nremoved and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before\r\ntheir face, and stood behind them: And it came between the camp of the\r\nEgyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them<\/i>,\r\nbut it gave light by night to these<\/i>: so that the one came not near the\r\nother all the night.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Do\r\nyou see it? That cloud was darkness to the Egyptians, but it was light to the\r\ncamp of Israel. Consider the cloud in the way that it rested in the temple on\r\nthe day that Solomon dedicated it to the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\r\nme pause here in this narrative to share with you a personal experience in\r\norder to draw the comparison.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
