ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: SUPERNATURAL MATURITY, Part 3<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

For those of you with children who are running from God or who\r\nsimply ignore the call of Holy Spirit in their lives, let me share a quick\r\nstory of encouragement before we begin today's sharing.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Our youngest son, Joshua, has had his battles for years. He has\r\nhad anger issues stemming from abuse and rejection from his biological father\r\n-- anger which has gotten him into trouble more than once and even landed him\r\nbehind bars on several occasions. That anger was often explosive and\r\nhair-triggered and if he felt confronted or corrected, he would fly off the\r\nhandle. Despite the fact that he was instructed in the ways of the Lord and --\r\nin his youth -- manifested the compassion of the Lord for the underprivileged\r\nand downtrodden, as the years unfolded he went his own way, winding up in the\r\ncompany of \"friends\" who led him into the world of alcohol and drugs.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

During a period of a couple years in which we were able to help\r\nhim get a job working for a Canadian mining company under contract in Alaska,\r\n(a job which he still holds today, some eight years later) he met and married\r\nan Eskimo girl, Michelle, who has become the love of his life and one of the\r\nbest things that could have ever happened to him. Today they have four children\r\n-- four kids who have become little treasures for Grandpa and Grandma!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Unfortunately, the drug use and alcohol abuse picked up again in\r\nthe midst of keeping bad company, and that substance abuse became a real issue\r\nfor Michelle and the kids, creating fear, mistrust and real tension in his\r\nfamily. Attempts by Della and me to counsel Josh went unheeded and things were\r\nreaching a break point with his family.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

During the past few years, Josh found a way to release the\r\npent-up anger in cage fighting and gained a reputation as a fierce competitor.\r\nAs an \"MMA\" fighter, his fists became classified as a lethal weapon.\r\nA few months ago an incident occurred which scared the daylights out of him and\r\nhighlighted for him his own need to get rid of the anger issues and surrender\r\nhis life to the Lord.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Joshua called us for prayer. The awakening that took place in\r\nhis spirit triggered repentance and correction in his life that have been\r\nnothing less than astounding. A few weeks ago, he called his wife and children\r\ntogether, knelt down in front of them and asked them to forgive him for having\r\nbeen \"such a lousy dad.\" From that day forward, he has been reading\r\nthe Word and praying with his family on a daily basis. We are watching a\r\nprogression in him, in Michelle, and in the children that brings continual joy\r\nfor Della and me and a continual reminder of the covenant that the Lord made\r\nwith us many years ago concerning our children. It is a prophetic Word you can\r\nhang onto as well from Isaiah's prophecy.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Isaiah 54:13<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>And all thy children\u00a0shall be<\/i>\u00a0taught of the\r\nLORD; and great\u00a0shall be<\/i>\u00a0the peace of thy children.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

OK,\r\nmy story wasn't quite a \"quick\" as I intended, but I just wanted to\r\nencourage those of you who may despair of ever seeing your children walking with\r\nthe Lord. God IS a Covenant-keeping God, and His Word is what we can hang onto\r\nno matter what the outward circumstances may appear to be. As my longtime\r\nfriend and brother in the Lord, Dwain McKenzie, once said,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\"Things\r\nare not what they appear to be; they're what God says they are!\"<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now,\r\nthen, let's get on with today's wrap up of Matthew 5:6.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Matthew 5:6<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness,\r\nfor they shall be filled.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Consider\r\nhow Isaiah describes the conditions of this hunger.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Isaiah 61:1-3<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>The Spirit of the Lord GOD\u00a0is<\/i>\u00a0upon me; because\r\nthe LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me\r\nto bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the\r\nopening of the prison to\u00a0them that are<\/i>\u00a0bound;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of\r\nvengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them\r\nbeauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the\r\nspirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the\r\nplanting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Have\r\n you ever noticed how much Isaiah\u2019s prophecy of Jesus in this instance so\r\n closely parallels Jesus\u2019 \u201cSermon on the Mount\u201d? Just about everything that\r\n Jesus declares is incorporated in this prophecy.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Then\r\ntake a look at how Luke describes the beginning of Jesus\u2019 ministry as soon as\r\nHe returns from the wilderness after being tempted by the Devil.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Luke 4:14-21<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and\r\nthere went out a fame of him through all the region round about.\u00a0And he\r\ntaught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.\u00a0And he came to\r\nNazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the\r\nsynagogue on the sabbath<\/span> day, and stood up for to\r\nread.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias<\/span>. And when he had opened the book, he found the place\r\nwhere it was written,\u00a0The Spirit of the Lord\u00a0is<\/i>\u00a0upon me,\r\nbecause he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me\r\nto heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and\r\nrecovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are\r\nbruised,\u00a0To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

And he closed the book, and he gave\u00a0it<\/i>\u00a0again to\r\nthe minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue\r\nwere fastened on him.\u00a0And he began to say unto them, This day is this\r\nscripture fulfilled in your ears.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\u2019s\r\nsafe to say that ALL of Jesus\u2019 ministry was aimed at delivering folks from the\r\ncontamination and infection of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Isaiah\u2019s\r\nprophecy of Jesus was that His purpose in ministering<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cgood tidings to the meek, binding up the brokenhearted,\r\ndelivering the captives, restoring sight to the blind, and opening up the\r\nprison to those who were bound<\/span>\u201d was to transform them back into<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201ctrees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, so that He\r\ncould be glorified!\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Remember\r\nwhat Jesus said to John when asking him to baptize Him in the Jordan and John\r\nobjected?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Matthew 3:15<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>And Jesus responded to him, saying, \u2018Erase your preconceived\r\n ideas of what is appropriate; suspend your emotions for the moment, for it is\r\n necessary in this way or manner for us to furnish, execute and make available\r\n ALL righteousness and justification.\u201d And John baptized Jesus, setting aside\r\n and erasing his thoughts and emotions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(RAC Translation and\r\n Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

You\u2019ll\r\nrecall that John the Baptist prophesied of Jesus saying,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cAnd now also the axe is laid to the root of the Tree,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(see\r\nMatthew 3:10) referring to the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Follow\r\nthat line of thinking to the fact that both Peter and Paul refer to Jesus as\r\nhaving been hung on that Tree (see Acts 5:30 and Galatians 3:13) in order to\r\ndeliver us from its curse and restore our access to the Tree of Life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Take\r\na quick look at how Paul phrases this in his letter to the Galatians:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Galatians 3:13-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a\r\ncurse for us: for it is written, Cursed\u00a0is<\/i>\u00a0every one that hangeth<\/span> on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come\r\non the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the\r\nSpirit through faith.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Before\r\nwe continue on, let\u2019s review the Greek words translated \u201cblessed\u201d or\r\n\u201cblessing.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Throughout\r\nthe beginning statements in Jesus\u2019 \u201cSermon on the Mount,\u201d each time we see Him\r\nuse the word, \u201cblessed,\u201d He is making use of a word that has a unique etymology\r\nto it. The word,\u00a0makarios<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,\r\nis the word translated, \u201cblessed\u201d throughout what we know as The Beatitudes.\r\nWhile this word indeed refers to being blessed,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>it has the connotation of a king\u2019s approval\r\nand subsequent conveyance of unique favor<\/span>. Thayer describes it as<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cthe supreme\r\nblessing,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>hence, the ultimate favor one can be given.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\ncan easily illustrate this from my own family\u2019s history in my ancestor, William\r\nCapron, who joined William the Conqueror in his conquest of the British Isles.\r\nWhen the battles were over and William the Conqueror became King William I of\r\nBritain, because of my ancestor\u2019s bravery and battle success, he was knighted\r\nby the king and granted a huge tract of land in central England we know today\r\nas Lancastershire<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\r\nblessing and favor continued on through the generations that followed so that\r\nWilliam Capron\u2019s grandson, William Capener<\/span>, became\r\nLord High Chancellor to King Henry I, and his great-great grandson served\r\nsimilarly.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\r\npicture of blessing gets a slightly different flavor when we see how Paul uses\r\nit in referring to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cthe\r\nBlessing of Abraham.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Here, we see the Greek term,\u00a0eulogeo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>. We\r\ncould liken this to the \u201crhema<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\u201d\r\nof blessing.\u00a0Eulogeo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\u00a0is\r\nthe speaking forth of\u00a0makarios<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Whereas\u00a0makarios<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\u00a0describes\r\nthe supreme blessing and favor granted by a king,\u00a0eulogeo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>delivers that supreme blessing and favor by\r\nenacting it within the framework of Covenant.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Eulogeo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\u00a0is a covenant word, and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>those who receive the\r\ndeclarations or decrees spoken forth do so because they have become\r\nparticipants in the covenant<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now,\r\nlet\u2019s get back to the verse that started this line of discussion, and let me\r\namplify that for you from the Greek.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Matthew 5:6<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Blessed and highly favored by the King [of Kings] are those who\r\nare famished and crave after with unquenchable thirst the way of thinking,\r\nfeeling and acting wholly conformed to the will of God, who has His\r\nwhole-hearted approval and acceptance, and therefore needs no (man-made)\r\njustification, for they shall be satisfied in abundance \u2014 being able to\r\nliterally gorge themselves on and with the nature, character and personality of\r\nGod.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(RAC Translation and Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Wheww<\/span><\/span>!! That\u2019s a mouthful,\r\nI know, but my desire was to capture the very essence of what Jesus is\r\ncommunicating when He speaks of His favor towards those who thirst after His\r\nnature and character.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Each\r\ntime we see the preface in our English translations, \u201cBlessed are,\u201d we are\r\nseeing the express favor of both Father and Son for the following attitudes and\r\nbehavior. When Jesus revealed His Glory to Peter, James and John in the\r\nmountain, and was transfigured before them, He permitted them to see into His\r\nsupernatural makeup, His character and personality.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

This\r\nword, transfigured, in the Greek text, describes a dimensional shifting. The\r\nword is more often translated \u201ctransformed\u201d throughout Paul\u2019s letters, but the\r\noriginal word is:\u00a0metamorphoo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,\r\na compound Greek word which denotes<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>undergoing a visible shift in appearance.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jesus\u2019\r\nappearance took on a brightness and a transparent shining such as no one had\r\never seen. When Moses and Elijah appeared with Him, the disciples failed to\r\nunderstand or to comprehend the prophecy that was taking place before their\r\neyes. He became the fulfillment of the Law as well as the prophetic\r\nannouncements of Him throughout the centuries.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

In\r\nPeter\u2019s excitement and zeal, he put his foot in his mouth by suggesting that\r\nthey should build three tabernacles there on top the mountain. He did not yet\r\ncomprehend the Glory of the Lord that was being revealed before them, and\r\nFather had to cause His cloud to overshadow them momentarily while He spoke out\r\nof Heaven saying,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>This is\r\nmy beloved Son in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him!<\/span>(Matthew 17:5)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nrighteousness becomes complete within us as the people of God, the Glory of the\r\nLord is revealed and made plain to those around us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Righteousness\r\nenables Holy Spirit to reveal the Glory of the Lord in such a way that the Word\r\n\u2014 the\u00a0rhema<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\u00a0\u2014\r\nof Jesus is heard as we speak.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

There\u2019s\r\na whole lot more we could cover on the subject of righteousness, but let\u2019s move\r\non to the next \u201cbe attitude.\u201d (smile)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

And\r\nthis is a good place for us to stop. We will continue this again next week.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n
