\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Beginning in 2008 and into 2009 Holy\r\nSpirit instructed me to begin sharing Sunday after Sunday after Sunday after\r\nSunday on the Table of the Lord.\u00a0 Just when I thought we'd about gotten\r\nthe full revelation of what takes place, the Holy Spirit would download a whole\r\nnew picture.\u00a0 Hence, for some 40 weeks or so in succession, the Lord\r\npeeled layer after layer after layer away so that we began seeing and hearing\r\nan entirely new and expanded dimension of this covenant act.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

If you are wondering what all this\r\nhas to do with Resurrection Life and resurrection from the dead, buckle your\r\nseatbelt!\u00a0 <\/span>We are on a fresh journey\r\nthrough our understanding of what we commonly call the Table of the Lord, or\r\nthe Communion Table.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

If\r\nyou've grown up in and around the church, you've likely had pretty much the\r\nsame routine I've had where we would take Communion the first Sunday of every\r\nmonth.\u00a0 Frequently you will hear the pastor or church leader say something\r\nlike the following -- particularly after reading the passage of Scripture from\r\nI Corinthians 11 that reads like this:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I Corinthians 11:27-30<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\"Wherefore whosoever\r\nshall eat this bread, and drink\u00a0this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be\r\nguilty of the body and blood of the Lord.\u00a0 But let a man examine himself,\r\nand so let him eat of\u00a0that bread, and drink of\u00a0that cup.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

For he that\r\neateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not\r\ndiscerning the Lord\u2019s body.\u00a0 For this cause many\u00a0are weak and sickly\r\namong you, and many sleep.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

You've\r\nlikely heard something like this: \"Now\r\nbe careful!\u00a0 Examine yourself!\u00a0 If you have sin in your life, don't\r\npartake of Communion -- not until you repent and make things right with\r\nGod.\u00a0 If you do, you could be eating sickness and death to yourself.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What\r\ngets missed in the translation is the last phrase of Paul's admonition, <\/span>\"not discerning the\r\nLord's body.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

If\r\nyou were part of the Charismatic Renewal, you likely did something like I\r\ndid.\u00a0 I would try to discipline my thoughts and imagination and try to\r\nimagine Jesus' body hanging on the Cross; and I would say, \"Oh, Lord, I see you.\u00a0 I see you hanging on the\r\nCross.\u00a0 I see your body.\u00a0 I see what you did for me.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Nice.......but\r\nstupid!\u00a0 That was NOT the body Paul was speaking of!\u00a0 He didn't\r\nexpect us to screw up our willpower and try to imagine Jesus hanging on the\r\nCross.\u00a0 That word \"discerning\" in the Greek text is <\/span>diakrino<\/span><\/i><\/b>,<\/span><\/b> which means: to make a distinction, to discriminate, to separate\r\nthoroughly<\/span>. But Paul uses an interesting Greek word in the statement,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"Wherefore\r\nwhosoever shall eat this bread, and drink\u00a0this cup of the Lord,\r\nunworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\r\nword \"unworthily\" is translated from the Greek <\/span>anaxios<\/span><\/i><\/b>,<\/span><\/i><\/b> which literally\r\nmeans: to treat irreverently, to treat as commonplace<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nuse of those two words greatly affects how we understand this command.\u00a0\r\nLet me explain.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nwe treat the Table of the Lord as a ritual, a once-a-month event we are\r\nrequired to keep (and we do it as a religious duty), we've totally lost sight\r\nof what Jesus commanded, and we are treating this as \"commonplace,\"\r\nas \"ordinary.\"\u00a0 Once the Table of the Lord, or partaking of\r\nCommunion becomes a religious duty and not a covenant act with revelation and\r\nunderstanding of what is taking place, it simply becomes \"another thing to\r\ndo\" for us as Christians.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\nwaste our time, we waste God's time, and....worse....our treating this Table so\r\ncavalierly results in our opening a door of opportunity to Satan to afflict us\r\nwith disease, steal from us and even take our lives prematurely.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\n\"discernment\" Paul is speaking of refers to discerning --\r\nunderstanding with true revelation -- all that Jesus' body represents at the\r\nTable.\u00a0 This is not eating of a wafer and drinking an ounce of grape\r\njuice.\u00a0 This is not crackers and juice, or a piece of bread and\r\nwine.\u00a0 This is the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Yes, it\r\nis!\u00a0 <\/span>More than that, it is a part of\r\nwalking in the revelation of Resurrection Life, and all that Jesus accomplished\r\nfor us with His death and resurrection.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\r\nsaid; let me take you to a few foundation scriptures that will unfold the\r\ncovenant nature of the Table of the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Before\r\nI do, however, let me say something that might surprise you.\u00a0 Literally\r\neverything that Jesus said, every miracle He performed (that we have recorded\r\nin the Gospels), everything He demonstrated to the disciples was rooted and\r\nfounded in His Table.\u00a0 In the coming weeks, my objective is to help you\r\nsee this unfold and radically change your understanding of what takes place\r\neach time you break bread and drink of the cup.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\"In\r\nthe beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God<\/u>.\u00a0\r\nThe same was in the beginning with God.\u00a0 All things were made by him; and\r\nwithout him was not anything made that was made.\"<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(John 1:1-3)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

But as many as believed in and responded to Him, to them He gave\r\nthe authority and ability to become \u2013 and be transformed into \u2013 begotten\r\nchildren of God, specifically to those who entrust their future existence and\r\nwell-being by faith in His name, rank, position, character, personality and\r\nbeing;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Who were begotten, not of flesh and blood, nor because human\r\nflesh determined it by its own decision, nor because the mind and intellect of\r\nman seized upon it and willed it into existence, but by God as a sovereign act\r\nof His Will and determination.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(John 1:12-13, RAC\r\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/u><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

John 6:50-51, 53-58<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\"This is the bread\r\nwhich cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.\u00a0 I\r\nam the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this\r\nbread, he shall live forever<\/u>: and the bread that I will give is my flesh,\r\nwhich I will give for the life of the world.\u00a0 .....\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cVerily,\r\nverily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink\r\nhis blood, ye have no life in you.\u00a0 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my\r\nblood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.\u00a0 For my\r\nflesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.\u00a0 He that eateth my\r\nflesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As the\r\nliving Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me,\r\neven he shall live by me.\u00a0 This is that bread which came down from heaven:\r\nnot as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread\r\nshall live forever.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Are\r\nyou seeing Jesus\u2019 illustration of walking in the Resurrection?\u00a0 <\/span>You may not see the foundational aspect of\r\nthese Scriptures, yet, but stand by.\u00a0 It will become clear as we progress.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jesus'\r\nstatement caused a great stir -- both in the Jews generally, and amongst those\r\nthat considered themselves His disciples (not the twelve) and followed\r\nHim.\u00a0 It was a statement that was designed to separate those who could\r\nonly see and hear in the natural realm from those who understood the spiritual\r\nsignificance of what He was revealing.\u00a0 For those whose reference point\r\nwas the Law of Moses, it created consternation and even nausea.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

John\r\ntells us (see John 6:66), <\/span>\"From that\u00a0time many of his disciples went back, and walked\r\nno more with him.\"<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>It was simply more than they could\r\nhandle.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

They\r\nwere only seeing things through legalistic eyes.\u00a0 God had made some very\r\nspecific and direct commands concerning the drinking of blood as we see in the\r\nfollowing references.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Genesis 9:3-4<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\"Every moving thing that liveth shall be\r\nmeat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh\r\nwith the life thereof, which is the blood thereof<\/u>, shall ye not eat.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Leviticus 7:26-27<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\"Moreover ye shall eat no manner of\r\nblood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings. Whatsoever\r\nsoul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off\r\nfrom his people.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Leviticus 17:10-12<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\"And whatsoever man\r\nthere be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you,\r\nthat eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that\r\neateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people. For the life of\r\nthe flesh is in the blood<\/u>: and I have given it to you upon the altar to\r\nmake an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an\r\natonement for the soul<\/u>. Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No\r\nsoul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth<\/span> among you eat blood.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And\r\nthat's just a drop in the bucket.\u00a0 There are a host of Scriptures which\r\nemphasize the fact that one does not eat (or drink) blood because all life is\r\nin the blood.\u00a0 But Jesus wasn't talking about eating His literal flesh or\r\ndrinking His literal blood.\u00a0 He was referring back to the prophecy all\r\nJews should have been well aware of -- the prophecy of Passover.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\nwon't recount the entire portion of Scripture here that relates to the Passover\r\n(you can read it in Exodus 12), but to summarize, God was preparing to bring\r\nIsrael out of centuries of bondage in Egypt and take them to the Land of\r\nPromise He had covenanted to give to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.\u00a0 The\r\nEgyptian Pharaoh wouldn't release the Israelites, despite the fact that God had\r\ngiven him sign after sign after sign, so God was going to send the Angel of\r\nDeath across the land.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

For\r\nIsrael (living in Goshen) to be free from the death angel's power enabling him\r\nto \"pass over\" them, they needed to eat from a Table that God was\r\ngoing to prepare especially for this event.\u00a0 They were commanded to take a\r\nyearling lamb from their flocks, kill it, collect its blood and apply it to the\r\nlintels and doorposts of their dwelling places, roast the lamb and eat it along\r\nwith cakes of unleavened bread.\u00a0 Once again, they were not to drink of the\r\nblood; they were to apply it to the lintels and doorposts of their homes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

God's\r\npromise to Israel was, <\/span>\"And\r\nthe blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye\u00a0are: and when\r\nI see the blood, I will pass over you<\/u>, and the plague shall not be upon you\r\nto destroy\u00a0you, when I smite the land of Egypt.\"<\/span>\u00a0 (Exodus\r\n12:13)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

But\r\nit didn't stop there.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Exodus 12:14-17<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\"And this day shall be unto you for a\r\nmemorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations;\r\nye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever.\u00a0<\/span> <\/span><\/sup>Seven days shall ye eat\r\nunleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your\r\nhouses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the\r\nseventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cAnd in the\r\nfirst day\u00a0there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there\r\nshall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them,\r\nsave\u00a0that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.\u00a0\r\nAnd ye shall observe\u00a0the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame\r\nday have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye\r\nobserve this day in your generations by an ordinance forever.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\ncan see the wheels turning for some of you.\u00a0 OK,\r\nso where is there a prophecy in this?<\/span><\/i> you ask.\u00a0 Glad you\r\nasked.\u00a0 I can't take the time in this series to deal with all of the\r\nfeasts Israel was commanded to keep, but each of these feasts -- beginning with\r\nPassover -- was a prophecy, a picture of a future event in time -- to be\r\nfulfilled by and for the coming Messiah.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Notice\r\nthat this very first feast (as was every feast Israel kept) began with the\r\neating of a specific meal.\u00a0 They didn't have a drink specified at this\r\nmeal\/table (that came later as God spelled out the various offerings to Moses)\r\nbecause of the specific application of the blood.\u00a0 However, wine was later\r\nspecified in the place of blood as an offering to the Lord (Exodus 29:40) and\r\nwhenever the covenant Table was kept in Israel, wine became the substitute for,\r\nand symbol of, blood.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Israel\r\nwould have the picture of the Table of the Lord continually before them once\r\nthe Tabernacle of Moses was established.\u00a0 What we know as the \"Table\r\nof Shewbread\" was established as a permanent part of the furnishings of\r\nMoses' Tabernacle, and God's promised provision was constantly on display as\r\ntwelve prophetic loaves.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a\r\nprophetic picture of what was to come in Christ Jesus, the Messiah.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a picture of release from the sentence\r\nof death that hung over them and over the human race.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Passover\r\nwas the promise of what was to come.\u00a0 Jesus fulfilled that promise.\u00a0\r\nAnd just as Jesus ate of the Passover meal with the disciples on the night He\r\nwas betrayed -- becoming the once-and-for-all sacrificial <\/span>\"Lamb\r\nthat was slain before the foundations of the world\"<\/span> (and forever\r\ncompleting the prophecy and picture of Passover) -- He also became the bread of\r\nprovision displayed on the Table of Shewbread.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\u2019re\r\njust getting started on the correlation between the Table of the Lord and\r\nwalking and living Resurrection Life, so bear with me.\u00a0 <\/span>We will pick it up here next week.<\/a><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
