ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: MIRACLES, Part 6<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Good Morning!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

So much for the best laid plans of mice and men.\u00a0 I\r\nhadn't planned on doing any more of this series on Miracles for several weeks,\r\nbut recent events were so unusual I just couldn't wait.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

You'll remember the story of our grandson, Kyle, and the\r\nexcitement he generated with the rest of the family when the Lord straightened\r\nhis eye.\u00a0 That excitement has spread to Kyle's cousins, and we're seeing a\r\ndifferent set of miracles entirely.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

By the way, coffee's on!\u00a0 Got a\r\nblend again this morning -- Double Roasted French Roast, Dark Roasted\r\nIndonesian and some more of that San Francisco Bay Columbian.<\/span>\u00a0\r\nPotent stuff!\u00a0 Smells wonderful.<\/span>\u00a0 Love that\r\naroma!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Our daughter, Rebekah<\/span>, has five\r\nchildren.\u00a0 Adrianna is the oldest -- and the older<\/span>\r\nof the three girls Rebekah<\/span> has.\u00a0 Adrianna's\r\nfather was black, and she takes after that side of the family.\u00a0 She is a\r\ngorgeous 13-year-old half-black, half-white.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Unfortunately, she has been the brunt of some racist\r\ncomments and attacks among some of the kids she has hung around with, and the\r\ncriticisms have been very hurtful.\u00a0 A couple of weeks ago, we discovered\r\nthat she had been cutting herself.\u00a0 It is part of a wave of\r\nself-destruction the current generation of kids have<\/span>\r\nsuffered, and it is something we've seen among a number of junior-high and\r\nhigh-school kids throughout the nation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Kids seem to suffer from an extreme form of depression and\r\nturn to self-flagellation or other self-destructive acts in an effort to deal\r\nwith the hurt and gloom that hangs over them like a dark cloud.\u00a0 As noted,\r\nwe've seen this in other places, but to have it happen to one of our\r\ngrandchildren was a bit of a shock.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Della took Adrianna aside several days ago and began\r\ntalking with her.\u00a0 Adrianna began to unload her feelings, the hurts she'd\r\nbeen feeling,<\/span> and the accusations and mud-slinging\r\nthat had come against her.\u00a0 After about an hour of one-on-one together,\r\nAdrianna suddenly asked, \"Grandma, can you pray with me?\u00a0 I don't\r\nwant to feel this anymore.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Adrianna had never personally accepted Jesus Christ as her\r\nLord and Savior before, so this was a first step.\u00a0 She then came to my\r\noffice to tell me what she and Grandma had done together, and then asked if I\r\nwould pray for her for deliverance from a spirit of depression.\u00a0 Della\r\njoined me in a matter of minutes, and we ministered deliverance to Adrianna.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It wasn't more than a couple of hours when her brother,\r\nAndrew, came to me and asked, \"Grandpa, can I get saved too?\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let me tell you, that's a pretty exciting thing when your\r\ngrandkids come to you and tell you they want to get saved and come to know\r\nJesus Christ.\u00a0 That's when you know that your life and the example you set\r\nfor your family is paying dividends.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

In relatively short order, we had prayed with Andrew as\r\nwell as he invited Jesus to become his Lord.\u00a0 The discussions turned to\r\nwater baptism and Andrew asked if he could be baptized.\u00a0 That led to\r\nAdrianna's asking the same question, and then Jessica (we've talked about her\r\nmany times in these Coffee Breaks) followed.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jessica is only six years old, but she has a very clear\r\nunderstanding of her relationship with Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Normally, I wouldn't\r\nbaptize a six-year-old, (I was baptized in the Nome River when I was nine years\r\nold, and I can still remember the experience to this day.) but Jessica has\r\nconsistently demonstrated her relationship with the Lord since she was barely\r\nthree years old.\u00a0 This is the same kid who has run around laying hands on\r\nfamily members when they're sick and commanding them to \"be healed in the\r\nname of Jesus\" ever since she was three.\u00a0 Most of the time, there has\r\nbeen an immediate manifestation of healing.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Warren Bogart (this is the same guy at whose home we had\r\nthe barbecue where Mom lost her earring, and then the angel of the Lord\r\nreturned it) opened his swimming pool to us for a baptismal and we baptized\r\nAdrianna, Andrew and Jessica on Sunday afternoon.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jessica's next-oldest brother, P.J. (Peter John), is eight\r\nyears old.\u00a0 He was not baptized that Sunday, but a few days later while he\r\nwas riding with me in our truck while running some errands, he said to me,\r\n\"Grandpa, can I be baptized too?\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I answered him, \"P.J., water baptism is not just some\r\nfun thing to do.\u00a0 This is for people who have accepted Jesus Christ and\r\nmade a decision to serve Him.\u00a0 Water baptism is a specific act of showing\r\nSatan that the old P.J. is dead, and a new P.J. has been resurrected to a new\r\nlife in Jesus Christ.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

He looked at me for a few seconds and then responded,\r\n\"Grandpa, Jesus IS my Lord, and He's<\/span> my father,\r\ntoo!\"\u00a0 You'll appreciate that I almost stopped the truck and did a\r\ndance on the side of the highway.\u00a0 P.J.'s<\/span>\r\nnatural father is in prison and has been since P.J. was a baby.\u00a0 He's\r\nnever had a son-father or father-son relationship in his life, so for him to\r\nconfess that Jesus was his father was something that had to come by revelation\r\nof the Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We're going to baptize P.J., along with a couple of his\r\ncousins very shortly.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Yesterday, while I was doing some work in the church,\r\nJessica came over and sat down at the piano.\u00a0 Remember, she's only\r\nsix.\u00a0 She's never had piano lessons or music lessons of any kind.\u00a0 I\r\nexpected the usual pound, pound, pound on the keys that kids like to do when\r\nthey want to make noise.\u00a0 There was none of that.\u00a0 She found a place\r\non the piano keyboard that suited her and began to play a simple, but very\r\nelegant melody -- mostly one note at a time, but a few times with two or\r\nthree-finger chords.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I was so focused on my tasks that I wasn't really paying a\r\nlot of attention other than to think -- most in the back of my head --\u00a0Wow,\r\nthat's pretty good!<\/i><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ever since we began covering the Lakeland Outpouring and\r\nshowing it nightly on the big screen (we have a 10-Megabit Internet connection\r\nwhich provides some pretty decent video quality) we've delayed our nightly\r\nworship gatherings until after the feed is cut off.\u00a0 Andrew, P.J., and\r\nJessica were with us watching the feed last night.\u00a0 Jessica laid<\/span> down on the rug in front of the flat screen, covered\r\nherself with a blanket, and fell asleep for perhaps 30 minutes.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Della wanted me to carry Jessica downstairs into a guest\r\nroom where we have a bed, cover her up, and let her sleep, but she awoke when I\r\npicked her up.\u00a0 When I laid her down, Della was standing beside me and\r\nJessica said to her, \"Grandma, I just dreamed about Jesus.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Della answered, \"You did?\u00a0 What did you\r\ndream?\"\u00a0 Jessica responded, \"Jesus came and touched me.\u00a0 He\r\nhealed me.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That was a surprising response so Della asked, \"What\r\ndid Jesus heal you from?\"\u00a0 Jessica held up a finger that she had\r\nnicked on a rose bush earlier in the day.\u00a0 (She had talked about her\r\n\"owwee<\/span>\" when it happened and showed us the\r\nopen cut where skin had been peeled away leaving a tiny, but raw wound.)\u00a0\r\nWhen Jessica held up her finger this time, all the evidence of the cut and\r\nnicked flesh was gone and the finger was whole without any evidence of the\r\nearlier wound.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It was one of those \"Wow!\" experiences.\u00a0\r\nYou don't think of a cut finger as any big deal, but sometimes to a child it\r\nreally is important.\u00a0 For Jessica to experience this healing\u00a0in a\r\ndream sequence<\/i>\u00a0and actually be healed physically.....well, this was a\r\nfirst for me!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As Christians we have a bad habit of thinking that some\r\nrequests we make of the Lord are just too trivial.\u00a0 Let's take, for\r\nexample, asking for help in finding a missing set of keys or misplaced\r\nsunglasses.\u00a0 Are these trivial?\u00a0 Sure they are.\u00a0 Is a nick or a\r\nscratch on your finger or your arm or leg a trivial request for healing?\u00a0\r\nWe don't often think too much about things like that, but when you see the Lord\r\nrespond to the requests and corresponding faith of little children, it ought to\r\ngive adult Christians pause to reconsider.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

How many times has your child or grandchild come to you\r\nwith an \"owwee<\/span>\" on their hand, their knee,\r\ntheir head, or whatever and asked you to kiss it and make it better?\u00a0 How\r\nmany times have you had your kid or grandkid ask you to pray over something\r\nlike that, you pray the prayer feeling somewhat foolish, but the child gets up\r\nand runs away with the pain gone?\u00a0 Hmmmmmmm<\/span>................<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

But that was just the beginning of things that night with\r\nJessica.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When we shut off the television feed and went into the\r\nsanctuary for our evening worship, we'd barely gotten through one piece of\r\nmusic when Jessica stopped us.\u00a0 \"Grandma, Grandpa, you have to hear\r\nthe song Jesus gave me.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

She promptly sat down at the piano and began to play the\r\nmelody I'd heard her play earlier in the day.\u00a0 She played it pretty much\r\nthe same as she'd played it earlier.\u00a0 I was seated with my guitar so I picked\r\nup the theme and began to play it.\u00a0 Della was at her synth<\/span>\r\nkeyboards and invited Jessica over to play with her.\u00a0 (The piano is an old\r\nupright piano and needs some tuning.\u00a0 Otherwise, we'd have let Jessica\r\ncontinue on it.)\u00a0 Within short order, we were all playing Jessica's music\r\n(Robert was on the drums, <\/span>Sandy<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> on the Korg<\/span> synth<\/span>\r\nand their son, Andrew, on the congas), weaving cross melodies and harmonies\r\nwith it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It was another one of those \"Wow!\"\r\nexperiences.\u00a0 It left us all almost speechless.\u00a0 It's not often you\r\nexperience the Lord giving a six-year-old worship music, and music that is\r\nsimple, memorable and elegant, all rolled into one.\u00a0 Tell you what!\u00a0\r\nThat music beat a whole lot of what folks euphemistically refer to as\r\n\"praise\" or \"worship\" in church services today.\u00a0 More\r\nthan that, it brought a tangible presence of the Lord.\u00a0 I'll take that any\r\nday!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

This, folks, is the place of the miraculous: the presence of the\r\nLord.\u00a0\u00a0You can\u2019t have the presence of the Lord and not see\r\nmiracles.\u00a0\u00a0They just go with the package.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When we come to the place where our normal frame of reference is the presence \u00a0<\/span>the<\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\ntangible presence of the Lord, and we are in constant pursuit of Him, we will\r\nbegin to experience normal Christianity.\u00a0 This is where the supernatural b<\/span>ecomes\r\nas natural as breathing in and breathing out.\u00a0\u00a0This is where we\r\nfunction and operate naturally in what the world around us calls\r\n\u201csupernatural.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\u2019s where we intend to live 24 hours per day.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Faith causes the intellect to see, the heart to hear, and\r\nthe will to respond.\u00a0 Faith is not a substitute: it is the very substance\r\nof that which we hope for and expect.\u00a0 Faith comes by hearing, and hearing\r\nby the Word of God.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The Blessing of the Lord: it makes rich and He adds no\r\npainful toil and sorrow!<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>(Proverbs\r\n10:22)\u00a0 Be blessed!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\r\n\r\n
