ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: BABYLON IS FALLING DOWN, Part 5<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Anyway,\r\nGood Morning! Let's pick up where we left off last week, talking about Jezebel,\r\nand more than that, the spirit of Jezebel.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ahab\r\nand Jezebel had built for themselves a rather posh ivory palace on a\r\npromontory, jutting out from the hill, Samaria. Just below the palace lay a\r\nvineyard belonging to Naboth<\/span>, the Jezreelite<\/span>.\r\nAhab looked out from his palace day after day, admiring Naboth's<\/span>\r\nvineyard. Finally, he went to Naboth<\/span> and offered to\r\nbuy it from him, or trade a larger and better(?) vineyard in exchange for Naboth's<\/span> vineyard.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Naboth<\/span><\/span> refused saying that\r\nthis was an inheritance passed down from his father, Jezreel<\/span>,\r\nand his fathers<\/span> before him. No matter how hard Ahab\r\ntried to dicker, Naboth<\/span> wouldn't be bought or swayed\r\nin his decision. Naboth<\/span> felt that it would dishonor\r\nhis father, Jezreel<\/span>, to dispose of that which he had\r\nlabored a lifetime to establish.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ahab\r\ntook Naboth's<\/span> refusal as rejection, went home, laid\r\non his bed, refused to eat, and simply pouted. Jezebel walked in on him, saw\r\nhis despondency, and asked him what his problem was. Ahab told her, and she\r\nresponded, \"No problem! Just leave it to me. I will personally give it to\r\nyou as my gift.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jezebel\r\nthereupon set in motion a scheme all Christians should observe, which is a\r\nclassic example of the spirit of the Amorites -- and specifically, the spirit\r\nof Jezebel -- in operation. The first thing she did (you can read this in I\r\nKings 21) was to call a fast and instruct the elders of the city to prepare for\r\na public meeting in which Naboth<\/span> would be honored and\r\nset before the people as \"Man of the Year\" (or something like that!)\r\nLook out, Naboth<\/span>! This is sucker bait!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nnext thing she did was to find two men of believable reputation in the\r\ncommunity, and get them (through bribery, or promises of certain favors) to\r\nstand up at the public meeting where Naboth<\/span> was being\r\nhonored and accuse him of blasphemy (isn't\u00a0that\u00a0<\/i>interesting!)\r\nagainst God, and treason against the king. It worked like clockwork.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Because\r\nthe Mosaic Law specified that an accusation had to be confirmed in the mouth of\r\ntwo or more witnesses, Naboth<\/span> was a certain dead duck\r\nas soon as the second witness confirmed the first.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nelders of the city, like good, law abiding believers, accepted the accusations\r\nagainst Naboth<\/span> without so much as a whimper or\r\nprotest, even though he had been among them for a lifetime and they had all\r\ngrown up together. Never mind the fact that Jezebel was an outsider, a newcomer\r\nto the community, and a citizen of a nation whom God had condemned to death.\r\nShe was \"the King's wife!\" She was \"the Queen.\" Sure\r\nenough, they took Naboth<\/span> outside the city and stoned\r\nhim to death.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

See\r\nwhat the spirit of Jezebel does to those of God's people who have genuine\r\nintegrity in their relationship with Him?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jezebel\r\npromptly confiscated Naboth's<\/span> vineyard, his property,\r\nand all his belongings, and then went and piously presented her gift to Ahab.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

See\r\nwhat the spirit of Jezebel does to God's people -- how it first kills, and then\r\nrobs them of their inheritance -- all under the guise and protection of the Law\r\n(whether New Testament, or Old Testament)?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ahab,\r\nhaving been completely hoodwinked by Jezebel, bought into the spirit of the\r\nAmorites spirit, soul and body. We are told (in I Kings 21:25-26) that<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\"There was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to\r\nwork wickedness in the sight of the Lord, whom Jezebel, his wife, stirred up.\r\nAnd he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things as did\r\nthe Amorites, whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.\"<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(KJV)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nLord sent Elijah to prophesy certain coming judgment against Jezebel, promising\r\nthat<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\"The\r\ndogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel<\/span>,\"<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>which\r\nshe killed Naboth<\/span> to obtain.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\nwon't get into all of the events which followed, or how that spirit in Jezebel\r\ncaused the prophets in Israel (with precious few exceptions) to prophesy\r\nfalsely to Ahab (their \"words\" from the Lord actually came from the spirit\r\nof divination instead). It is important, however, to note that Ahab and Jezebel\r\nhad a very desirable daughter, along with their sons, Ahaziah<\/span>\r\nand Jehoram<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

What!?!\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Yup! You've got it!\r\nHere we go again. Same song, third verse.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\nhave noted that there was a break in Judah for one generation -- that of\r\nJehoshaphat -- in which the spirit of the Amorites was not in power, and was\r\nunable to influence the throne of Judah. Know why? Jehoshaphat was the first\r\nking since the time of Rehoboam<\/span> to reappoint the worshippers,\r\nthe descendants of Asaph<\/span>, Heman<\/span>\r\nand Jeduthun<\/span>, to minister before the Lord twenty-four\r\nhours per day.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

In\r\nfact, it was Jahaziel<\/span>, a fifth generation descendant\r\nof Asaph<\/span>, who stood before Jehoshaphat when Moab and Ammon<\/span> assembled an army against Judah, and prophesied the\r\ndeliverance of the Lord. Jahaziel's<\/span> prophecy tweaked\r\nJehoshaphat's memory so that he sent the singers, the worshippers and musicians\r\nout before the armies of Judah -- a move which resulted in a stunning victory\r\nfor Judah as the Lord caused Moab and Ammon<\/span> to fight\r\namong themselves and decimate one another's armies.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jehoshaphat\r\nsat on the throne of Judah for twenty-five years. His son, Jehoram<\/span>,\r\ncame to the throne following his death. As unbelievable as it seems, and in\r\nspite of seeing the great victories the Lord gave to his father in the midst of\r\nthe praise and worship,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\"[Jehoram<\/span>] walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as\r\ndid the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab (and Jezebel) [Athaliah<\/span>] to wife: and he wrought evil in the eyes of the\r\nLord.\"<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(II Chronicles 21:6)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Well,\r\nthe spirit of Jezebel isn't about to allow any contestants for her throne, and\r\nwouldn't you know it, Jehoram<\/span> set about to kill all\r\nof his brothers -- anyone who might conceivably be in line to take the throne\r\nin the event of his untimely death.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Can\r\nyou believe this? Ahab has been killed in battle. Ahab and Jezebel's son, Ahaziah<\/span>, now takes the throne of Israel. Jezebel is very\r\nmuch alive, and the power behind the throne of Israel as \"Queen\r\nMother.\" Her daughter, Athaliah<\/span>, marries\r\nJehoshaphat's son, Jehoram<\/span>, when he takes the throne\r\nof Judah. Now the spirit of Jezebel is in control of all Israel\u00a0and<\/b>\u00a0Judah!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ahaziah<\/span><\/span>, Ahab and Jezebel's\r\nson, only survived on the throne of Israel for two years before being killed. Ahaziah<\/span> had not had time to have any children who could\r\nsucceed him to the throne of Israel, so Jezebel fixed things right smartly. Now\r\nJehoram<\/span>, her other son, took the throne in the place\r\nof his brother, and Mama Jezebel stayed in control of things.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Over\r\nin Judah, Jehoshaphat's son, also named Jehoram<\/span>,\r\nlasted on the throne for eight years and died after<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\"the Lord smote him in his bowels with an incurable\r\ndisease.\"<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>No problem for Jezebel...er<\/span>, make that Athaliah<\/span>. Oh well,\r\nsame difference. So Jehoram<\/span> and Athaliah's<\/span>\r\nson, Ahaziah<\/span>, now takes the throne.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

(Would\r\nyou believe that this family has a problem with names. They seem to be stuck in\r\na rut! Jehoram<\/span>! Ahaziah<\/span>!\r\nIsrael, or Judah -- it makes no difference. The spirit of Jezebel always makes\r\nits identity known.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

This\r\nAhaziah<\/span> only lasts on the throne of Judah for one\r\nyear. He met the judgment of the Lord in the person of Jehu, the captain of the\r\narmies of Israel, who was executing God's word against the household of Ahab\r\nand Jezebel.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Well,\r\nthe spirit of Jezebel isn't going to take that lying down.\u00a0Nosiree<\/i><\/span>! We'll fix that! No more of these\r\nweakling men on the throne! I'll just take the throne myself!<\/i>\u00a0So Athaliah<\/span>, the daughter of Jezebel, the wife of the late\r\nKing Jehoram<\/span>, and the mother of the late King Ahaziah<\/span>, how takes the throne of Judah herself. She decides\r\nto take things one step farther than her erstwhile husband by destroying all of\r\nthe seed of the lineage of David who might step forward to contest her claim on\r\nthe throne of Judah.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\r\nwould have worked, too, had it not been for the spiritual awareness of the high\r\npriest in Jerusalem, Jehoiada<\/span> by name. He realized\r\nthat he'd better act quickly. His wife, Jehoshabeath<\/span>,\r\nwho was Jehoshaphat's daughter, hid Joash<\/span> in her\r\nnursery as one of her own children. Jehoiada<\/span> and his\r\nwife raised Joash<\/span> as one of their own children.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

In\r\nthe mean time, Athaliah<\/span> sat on the throne of Judah\r\nfor six years.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nJoash<\/span> turned seven years of age, Jehoiada<\/span>\r\nmade preparation for his coronation. In a stunning move, the captains of the\r\narmies of Judah went throughout the land gathering together the priests, the\r\nLevites, and the elders of all the cities in Judah. These were quietly brought\r\ninto the temple on the Sabbath, as though it were a normal gathering.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Swords\r\nwere passed around, and the announcement was given. As the coronation began\r\nwith fanfare, praise and worship, Athaliah<\/span> came in to\r\nsee what all the commotion was about. The priests stopped her at the gate and\r\nput her to death. So much for the daughter of Jezebel.......but not for the\r\nspirit of Jezebel which remained in hiding -- for thirty-nine years.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jehoiada<\/span><\/span> lived to the ripe\r\nold age of 130 years. Joash<\/span> reigned well, so long as Jehoiada<\/span> lived. He had been contaminated by the spirit of\r\nJezebel, however. He was, after all, her great-grandson. So long as praise and\r\nworship went forth in Judah (and it did for thirty-nine years), that spirit was\r\nsubdued.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nJehoiada<\/span> died, Joash<\/span> was\r\nbeset by self-seeking politicians currying his favor. The first thing to go was\r\nthe praise and worship.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Zechariah,\r\nthe son of Jehoiada<\/span>, who had been raised with Joash<\/span> as his brother, came to reprove Joash<\/span>\r\nwith the word of the Lord. Naturally, the spirit of Jezebel couldn't tolerate\r\nreproof and rebuke. Joash<\/span>, if you can believe this,\r\narose in anger and put his erstwhile brother, Zechariah -- the prophet of the\r\nLord -- to death. Less than a year later, Joash's<\/span>\r\nservants assassinated him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

113\r\nyears passed before another king, Hezekiah, came to the throne of Judah who had\r\nany real concept of relationship with the Lord. Even so, in spite of the\r\nblessings of the Lord, and a \"world-class\" military victory over\r\nSennacherib, the king of Assyria, Hezekiah became insensitive to that which the\r\nLord had accomplished on his behalf.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Judah\r\nhad been a third, or even fourth-rate power during the years of Hezekiah's\r\npredecessors, being continually invaded, having their cities destroyed, and\r\ntheir wealth carried away by the armies of the Edomites<\/span>,\r\nthe Philistines, the Egyptians and the Assyrians. With the astounding victory\r\nby Hezekiah over Sennacherib, who had been one of the most feared kings and\r\nbattle strategists of that era, Baladan<\/span>, the king of\r\nBabylon, sent his son, Merodach-Baladan<\/span> and several\r\nambassadors to check out this Hezekiah and see what sort of king he might be --\r\nwhether they should also fear him, or whether this was just a fluke.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Hezekiah\r\nwas flattered by the attention -- especially by the king of Babylon. By this\r\ntime, Babylon had become a major military and political power to be reckoned\r\nwith. To receive an ambassage<\/span> from Babylon was quite\r\nan honor. It meant that they regarded Hezekiah as their equal! (Oh yeah!?!)\r\nHezekiah took the same bait that Naboth<\/span> fell for, not\r\nrealizing that he was being set up for conquest by Babylon.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Naturally,\r\nhe showed the prince of Babylon and his ambassadors the fruit of his great\r\nvictory, along with the treasures in his house, and the treasures in the house\r\nof the Lord. The Lord sent Isaiah to pay a visit to Hezekiah.\u00a0<\/span>\"What said these men, and from whence came they unto\r\nthee?\"<\/span>\u00a0Isaiah\r\nasked. Hezekiah told him that they had come from Babylon, and that<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\"there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed<\/span> them.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Dummy!\r\nYou fell for the trap of Jezebel! (Isaiah 39:5-6) Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\"Hear the Word of the Lord of Hosts: behold the days come,\r\nthat all that is in thine<\/span> house, and that which thy\r\nfathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon:\r\nnothing shall be left,\" saith<\/span> the Lord.\r\n\"And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt<\/span> beget, shall they take away; and they shall be\r\neunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.\"<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(KJV)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

See\r\nhow the spirit of Jezebel operates? It sets people up by making them believe\r\nthat they are being honored, only to make them talk about themselves and\r\ndisplay all of their weaknesses. Ahhh<\/span>, but wait!\r\nThere was nothing said about Jezebel in this instance!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Right!\r\nNow you're beginning to get the picture. It was the King of Babylon, and he was\r\nutilizing exactly the same ruse that Jezebel used on Naboth<\/span>.\r\nGet it? Jezebel was subservient to the King of Babylon. He was her true\r\nhusband. Whatever he desired, she carried out.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\r\nall had one end, and one end only:\u00a0captivity<\/b>! Captivity for all\r\nthose whom Jezebel was able to snare. They all wound up --\u00a0in Babylon<\/b>!\r\nEighty-seven years after Hezekiah's death, his great-grandson was carried off\r\ninto Egypt by Pharaoh Necho<\/span>. Less than 12 years\r\nlater, Nebuchadnezzar came against Pharaoh Necho<\/span> and\r\ncarried off Hezekiah's great grandsons -- including Jehoahaz<\/span>,\r\nwho had been taken into Egypt -- turned them into eunuchs, and kept them in the\r\npalace at Babylon to be his prisoners. All Judah fell prey to Babylon, and was\r\ntaken into captivity. One hundred thirty-four years earlier, the king of Israel\r\n-- along with the ten tribes in his kingdom -- were taken into captivity by\r\nNebuchadnezzar's grandfather.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nspirit of Jezebel had done its work, faithfully carrying out the wishes of the\r\nking -- the master spirit -- of Babylon, Lucifer himself. Jezebel, the spirit\r\nof the Amorites incarnate, had seduced the kings of Israel and the people of\r\nGod, and in the process, blasphemed, defamed, and killed multiplied thousands\r\nof God's people, and especially His prophets and messengers who could expose\r\nher and contest her claim.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

That's\r\nit for today. Next week we'll start linking all of this to Babylon, the driving\r\nspirit that is Babylon, and the direct connection to John's Revelation of\r\n\"Mystery Babylon.\"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n
