In the previous two\r\nweeks discussion on David\u2019s Tabernacle, we laid out the history of Judah and\r\nIsrael during the times of the kings who followed the pattern established by\r\nDavid with the three families of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun and the 24 hours of\r\npraise and worship that went forth around the tabernacle.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

In the artistic rendering to the\nright, <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

you see the tabernacle\nof Moses.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

That tabernacle was a\nprophecy to <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Israel of God\u2019s desire\nto restore<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

the personal\nrelationship with <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Israel that He once\nhad with<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Adam and Eve.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

II\nSamuel 6 recounts the events that<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

took\nplace in his first and anxious<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

attempt\nto bring the Ark back to<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jerusalem.\u00a0 <\/span>The Ark was intended to<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

be\nborne by priests \u2014 not carried<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

about\non a cart drawn by oxen like a <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

piece\nof furniture.\u00a0 <\/span>That boo-boo<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n

\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\ncaused\nthe death of Uzzah, and David had to reconsider the pattern that God had set\nforth for the Ark in the first place.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David\nhad realized that Israel had missed the significance of Moses\u2019 Tabernacle and\nhis objective was to restore the vision of the marriage covenant between God\nand His people.\u00a0 <\/span>That meant that the Ark\nhad to be on display before the nation \u2014 not hidden behind a thick veil so that\nit was visible only to the High Priest when he went into the Holy of Holies\nonce a year.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So\nDavid pitched a simple tent over the Ark.\u00a0\n<\/span>He placed it on a high point where it could be easily seen by anyone and\neveryone who looked in its direction.\u00a0\n<\/span>Instead of the symbolism of the Golden Candlestick with its seven\nbranches and the continuous burning flames representing the Seven Spirits of\nGod manifested in a completed and worshiping people which came out of each\nbranch, he appointed the three families of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun to minister\nbefore the Tabernacle of David and the Ark in rotating shifts on a 24-hour\nbasis, seven days a week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\nalready talked about the things that took place in Israel with that worship\ngoing forth continuously.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve talked\nabout the fact that Israel never lost a battle with any of its enemies during\nthe 40 years that David sat on the throne and the 40 years that Solomon\nruled.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve talked about the fact that\nIsrael\u2019s former enemies sued for peace treaties, and how David and Solomon\nexpanded the borders of Israel taking lands and territories that had been\npromised to Abraham but never taken under Joshua\u2019s leadership.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\ntalked about the fact that the land began to produce agriculturally.\u00a0 <\/span>The desert blossomed like a rose.\u00a0 <\/span>The people prospered as they had never\nprospered.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

During\nSolomon\u2019s reign, Israel became THE NUMBER ONE nation in the world \u2014 the Zenith\nof power and prestige!\u00a0 <\/span>The presence of\nthe Lord filled the land as never before.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nwon\u2019t recount today the history of the fall and rise again of Israel under the\nkings who succeeded David and Solomon.\u00a0\n<\/span>Suffice it to say that When Rehoboam succeeded his father, Solomon,\nwithin roughly three years he abandoned the ministry of praise and worship and\nsent the families of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun packing.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

No\nsooner had he done so when Jeroboam came up out of Egypt and split the nation\nin half.\u00a0 <\/span>Judah and Benjamin remained\ntogether under the leadership of the kings who were part of David\u2019s lineage.\u00a0 <\/span>The remaining ten tribes fell under the\nleadership first of Jeroboam, and then under a succession of kings \u2014 none of\nwhom restored the ministry of praise and worship \u2014 until they were all carried\naway into captivity.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

After\nRehoboam\u2019s folly Judah was beset by war and pestilence.\u00a0 <\/span>In the hundreds of years that followed, only\nfour kings in David\u2019s lineage restored the ministry of praise and worship.\u00a0 <\/span>Each time they did so, the nation had\ncontinual victory over its enemies and prosperity returned to the land as it\nhad under David and Solomon.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nhas always been a source of amazement to me that the descendants of Asaph,\nHeman and Jeduthun always remained faithful to their anointing and\ncalling.\u00a0 <\/span>Each time a king called for the\nrestoration of praise and worship, they were ready.\u00a0 <\/span>They were ready to prophesy.\u00a0 <\/span>They were ready to praise, and they were\nready to worship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For\ncenturies and millennia, this picture was lost on the body of Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve gone through the Reformation and many\nsuccessive stages of restoration and moves of God throughout the past five\ncenturies.\u00a0 <\/span>A new generation of people\nbegan to awaken to praise during the Azusa Street Revival.\u00a0 <\/span>Occasionally, throughout the past two hundred\nyears, there have been songs written that were oriented to worship, but it\nreally was not until the Charismatic Renewal began to really take shape in the\nearly 1970\u2019s that we began to see the makings of real worship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Nevertheless,\nthe concept of 24-hours of praise and worship, seven days a week, and its\npotential impact over the nation had not yet emerged.\u00a0 <\/span>It was in 1973 while I was at Long Beach\nChristian Center that Holy Spirit began to unfold for me an understanding of\nDavid\u2019s Tabernacle and the potential impact that kind of ministry could make on\nthe United States as a nation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

At\nthe same time, the Lord began to pour real worship into me and give me\nScripture songs, such as Revelation 5:12 (Worthy is the Lamb) and Revelation\n5:13 (Blessing and Honor and Glory and Power).\u00a0\n<\/span>The concept of singing in the Spirit was still in its infancy in the\nbody of Christ where everyone sang mostly using a single chord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nwas in 1982 while leading the House of Praise in Fairbanks (a fellowship\nconsisting mostly of folks who were part of the ministry of CBN-Alaska) that we\nbegan to launch out into singing complete new songs in the Spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>What began to develop was a sense of the\npresence of the Lord so thick in our gathering that folks simply could not\nmove.\u00a0 <\/span>There were extended moments of\ntotal silence as people began to simply soak in the presence of the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

(This\nis an aside to this discussion, but our gatherings were in the round where\neveryone sat in a growing circle.\u00a0 <\/span>Those\nof us who were leading formed part of the circle.\u00a0 <\/span>When I got up to do the teaching, I stood in\nthe center of the circle.)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nremember a Sunday where we were experiencing the presence of the Lord like that\nand a six or seven-year old girl left her mother\u2019s side and laid down on the\nfloor in the middle of the room.\u00a0 <\/span>Her\nmother was horrified and tried to stop her.\u00a0\n<\/span>She wouldn\u2019t be stopped and curled up on the floor right in the\nmiddle.\u00a0 <\/span>When the worship finally\nsubsided, the mother went to retrieve the girl.\u00a0\n<\/span>\u201cWhy did you do that?\u201d she asked the girl.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cMomma, Jesus was standing right there!\u00a0 <\/span>Didn\u2019t you see Him?\u00a0 <\/span>I went and laid down at His feet.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Because\nthese experiences were increasing, and the length of our worship gatherings\nexpanding, I began to think that the vision for a modern-day Tabernacle of\nDavid was developing, and that it was going to spring up with that ministry in\nFairbanks.\u00a0 <\/span>My spirit really began to\npose the question to the Lord, \u201cIs it time?\u00a0\n<\/span>Is this the time and place where You will cause this to become a modern\nreality?\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Not\nlong thereafter, a young black woman on vacation from South Carolina came\nknocking on my door at the CBN offices.\u00a0\n<\/span>She walked in, barely introduced herself and set a gift-wrapped package\non my desk.\u00a0 <\/span>She turned with hardly a\nword and headed for the office door.\u00a0\n<\/span>Before exiting, she said, \u201cWrite the vision!\u00a0 <\/span>Make it plain!\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>She closed the door and I never saw or heard\nfrom her again.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nopened the gift-wrapped package.\u00a0 <\/span>In it\nwas a Coffee Cup with the inscription from Habakkuk 2:3, \u201cFor the Vision is yet\nfor an appointed time.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>(Now you know\nwhere the theme of these weekly columns comes from \u2013 grin!)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nanswer to my question couldn\u2019t have been clearer.\u00a0 <\/span>I had no clue as to the events that were\ngoing to unfold in the days following but before summer began, we were\ndisconnected from CBN, people had scattered to the four winds and the doors of\nthe fellowship were closed.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Five\nyears pass.\u00a0 <\/span>Della and I are now in\nAnchorage.\u00a0 <\/span>For the past few years, I\u2019ve\nbeen in international banking.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019d been\non a project that was generating millions of dollars in commissions, and we were\napproaching a day when those commissions would be released.\u00a0 <\/span>Della and I had chosen a piece of property\nalong the Seward Highway to build a worship center.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019d\nbeen negotiating with the principals for the purchase of the Girdwood Gold\nMine, knowing that the mine was generating a couple million each year in\nrevenue \u2014 revenue that could be used to fund the ongoing ministry of the\nworship center and pay the salaries of those who dedicated themselves to the\n24-hour praise and worship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019d\nalso negotiated for the purchase of a home to meet the needs of our growing\nfamily.\u00a0 <\/span>Everything is set to go.\u00a0 <\/span>We meet with the realtors at Home Savings and\nLoan to close the purchases at the exact time that our commissions are due to\nbe released to us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Nothing\nhappens.\u00a0 <\/span>The trustee for our funds has\nfled the country with all of our money.\u00a0\n<\/span>Talk about having the wind go out of your sails!\u00a0 <\/span>The trustee was tracked to a point where the\nFeds lost sight of him, our moneys unrecoverable.\u00a0 <\/span>In the months that ensued, when my spirit was\nquiet enough to hear Holy Spirit, the Lord said to me, \u201cI don\u2019t need you to\nfund my vision.\u00a0 <\/span>When the time comes, you\nwill have more than enough to accomplish everything I tell you to do.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wheww!\u00a0 <\/span>Got it?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Two\nmore years pass.\u00a0 <\/span>Della is managing for\nZales Jewelers and I am Chief Engineer for the relatively new FOX television\nstation.\u00a0 <\/span>Friends are gathering with us\nin our home for praise and worship on Sundays.\u00a0\n<\/span>I\u2019m like David!\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve gotten\nfrustrated over the delays and am anxious to see the non-stop ministry of\npraise and worship get going.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Without\ntelling Della, I put an ad in the Anchorage Daily News looking for people with\na heart and vision for praise and worship.\u00a0\n<\/span>People start calling me, inquiring as to what this is all about, and I\nstart interviewing prospective musicians and singers on the telephone.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nday, Della calls me from her office.\u00a0 <\/span>My\nsecretary puts her on hold while I finish an interview with a prospective\nworshiper.\u00a0 <\/span>When I take Della\u2019s call off\nhold and apologize for the delay, she naturally asks me what I was doing.\u00a0 <\/span>When I told her that I was interviewing a\nprospective musician and singer, I had to tell her that it was based on an ad\nI\u2019d put in the newspaper.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\ncould have heard her laughter a mile away.\u00a0\n<\/span>\u201cYou\u2019re doing WHAT?\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019re\ninterviewing for GOD?\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OOPS!!\u00a0 <\/span>It dawned on me that I was doing almost the\nsame thing that David had done.\u00a0 <\/span>My\nanxiety was getting in the way.\u00a0 <\/span>I had to\nadmit my stupidity.\u00a0 <\/span>The interviews\nceased.\u00a0 <\/span>Not surprisingly, out of dozens\nof phone calls and interviews that had taken place, not one single person I\u2019d\ntalked to was interested.\u00a0 <\/span>They all\nthought this was going to be a chance at television and fame.\u00a0 <\/span>There was no heart of worship in any of them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now\nit is the fall of 1992.\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord begins\nto speak to Della and me.\u00a0\n<\/span>\u201cSimplify.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cGet out of\ndebt.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cConsolidate.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Become mobile.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Human\nnature never changes.\u00a0 <\/span>You tend to\n\u201cinterpret\u201d what God says to you through your own mental translator.\u00a0 <\/span>And so we did.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cSimplify\u201d and \u201cConsolidate\u201d just meant we\nwere to downsize from our six-bedroom home (most of the kids were grown and\ngone \u2014 Joshua and Rebekah were the only ones still there).\u00a0 <\/span>So we found a four-bedroom home north of\nAnchorage that seemed like a good fit.\u00a0\n<\/span>We didn\u2019t have the money yet to purchase it, but it looked like we could\nmake things happen.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nstarted packing and selling things, and I started moving things we \u201cneeded to\nkeep\u201d into storage.\u00a0 <\/span>Not counting car\npayments and insurance payments, we were roughly $17,000 in debt, despite\nhaving been on what was easily a six-figure income.\u00a0 <\/span>In short order we were suddenly\ncar-less.\u00a0 <\/span>A drunk driver hit us\nhead-on.\u00a0 <\/span>No one was injured but the car\nwas a total loss.\u00a0 <\/span>Earle and Marcia\nTreend had been part of our daily practice of gathering for praise and worship\nunder humorous circumstances.\u00a0 <\/span>Earle was\nheading up Tad Telecommunications and Marcia was working for an airline that\nultimately merged with Southwest Airlines.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\ncan appreciate that we epitomized \u201cbusy!\u201d\u00a0\n<\/span>I was on call 24 hours a day, Della was putting in a good 12-hour day\n(or more at Zales, Earle was doing pretty much the same thing with his\ntelecommunications company, and Marcia was working long hours for the\nairline.\u00a0 <\/span>We determined that we were\ngoing to get together for worship on a daily basis, even if that meant only 15,\n20 or 30 minutes per day.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nagreed to meet around noon each day at our home which seemed to be the most\ncentrally located in the city, considering where all of our respective offices\nwere situated.\u00a0 <\/span>It got to be somewhat\nhumorous.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nwould all arrive at the house within roughly five minutes of each other, drop\nour coats, grab hands and begin to sing in the Spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>For roughly 15 or 20 minutes, this continued\nnonstop.\u00a0 <\/span>Then we\u2019d grab our coats and\nhead out the door to our respective offices.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Over\nthe weeks that followed (once we began this practice) we found that our time\nwas being better spent, that our labors were more efficient, and we could get\ntogether for longer periods of time.\u00a0 <\/span>We\ndidn\u2019t bother with our instruments at first.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Just\ngetting together was our priority.\u00a0 <\/span>There\nwas a mandate in our spirits to meet daily for worship.\u00a0 <\/span>It mattered not if we could only grab a few\nminutes, or if it worked for us to be together for an hour or more.\u00a0 <\/span>We had a focus on ministry to the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Lots\nmore ground to cover, so lets pause for now and pick it up here next week.<\/a><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
