David\u2019s Tabernacle Restored, Part 4<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As you can see from\r\nour sharing thus far, things have turned into a real adventure for us.\u00a0 <\/span>But this has only been a drop in the bucket\r\nfor what is about to unfold.\u00a0 <\/span>For the\r\nfirst time in my life, the time I spent with David on my first trip to heaven\r\nbegan to really make sense.\u00a0 <\/span>I understood\r\nthe passion he had for worship.\u00a0 <\/span>I\r\nunderstood the drive in him to establish this simple Tabernacle in order to put\r\nthe presence of the Lord on display for all of Israel.\u00a0 <\/span>I understood the real consequences of having\r\nthat kind of worship and praise as the CenterPoint for a nation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\u2019s continue from\r\nwhere we left off last week, talking about our initial drive to gather together\r\nfor worship and praise.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Eventually,\r\nour schedules began to lessen so that we could get together in the evenings\r\nafter dinner.\u00a0 <\/span>I got my flamenco guitar\r\nout (Della wasn\u2019t playing her keyboards yet, but she would sing, harmonize and\r\noccasionally play the tambourine), Earle got his trombone and Marcia her\r\ncello.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>It was a strange beginning, to\r\nsay the least.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

One\r\ndoes not think of the guitar, trombone and cello as necessarily a compatible\r\ngroup of instruments.\u00a0 <\/span>Earle, however,\r\nhad been a \u201cbig band\u201d jazz trombonist, and he had an unmatched flexibility, not\r\nto mention an anointing on the trombone I\u2019ve never seen the equal of.\u00a0 <\/span>Marcia had been principal cellist with the\r\nDetroit Symphony, and then the Spokane Symphony.\u00a0 <\/span>Her fort\u00e9<\/span> was\r\nclassical music.\u00a0 <\/span>She had never played\r\nspontaneously without any music in front of her so this was totally new!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Because\r\nwe were not getting together with an entertainment mentality, we left the\r\n\u201cperfecting\u201d of the sound to the Lord.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>When I say that it worked, that\u2019s an understatement!\u00a0 <\/span>As our evenings of worship grew, both in\r\nintensity and length of time, other friends began to join in with us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

One\r\nnight a representative from one of the transmitter companies I dealt with came\r\nto our home for dinner and stayed on for the worship.\u00a0 <\/span>He shook his head in awe at what he witnessed\r\nand as the evening concluded, he said, \u201cWhy aren\u2019t you recording this\r\nworship?\u00a0 <\/span>There is nothing like this out\r\nthere for folks to hear \u2014 anywhere!\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Della\r\nhad been urging me to set up my recording equipment (I have had a huge\r\ninvestment in some of the finest of recording equipment, having pioneered in\r\nthe field of digital recording in the 1970\u2019s.)\u00a0\r\n<\/span>That began an experiment for all of us.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Folks tgend<\/span> to become self-conscious in the\r\npresence of microphones, and it took some getting used to for all of us so that\r\nwe could come to the place that, for all practical purposes, the microphones\r\nwere invisible.\u00a0 <\/span>They played no role\r\nwhatever in our focus on the presence of the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\r\nstarted a process and created a library of spontaneous worship that easily\r\nexceeded 400 hours over the next few years.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Ahh, but I\u2019m getting ahead of myself.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Earle\r\nand Marcia were the owners of Trails\u2019 End in Post Falls, Idaho, a 160-acre\r\n\u201cranch\u201d that was more of an agricultural preserve than anything else.\u00a0 <\/span>The young lady who had been taking care of\r\nthe place had gotten engaged and wanted to move on.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Earle\r\nrecommended that \u2014 because of the unusual commands of the Lord to us to\r\n\u201cSimplify, Get out of Debt, Consolidate and Become Mobile\u201d that we consider\r\ntaking over the care of the ranch and moving there to use it as a base of\r\nministry operations instead of trying to find another place in Anchorage.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\r\nwas the Word of the Lord to us, and we both witnessed it in our spirits.\u00a0 <\/span>It took no time at all for us to finish our\r\npacking and make the move.\u00a0 <\/span>It isn\u2019t\r\nnecessary to get into a lot of extra detail, but the move happened quickly, and\r\nwe were settled in.\u00a0 <\/span>Other friends who\r\nhad heard about the ongoing worship, and were, themselves, worshipers decided\r\nto begin getting together with us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\r\nstarted with Robert and Sandy, both of whom were involved in the ministry at\r\nEastgate in Spokane.\u00a0 <\/span>Robert added light\r\npercussion to the music and Sandy bounced between the guitar and the English\r\nrecorder.\u00a0 <\/span>The more that Robert and Sandy\r\nparticipated, the more they began to spread the word about the unusual nature\r\nof the spontaneous worship going forth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Robert\u2019s\r\nbrother-in-law and sister \u2014 Bob & Charlotte Bartow \u2014 joined in with\r\nus.\u00a0 <\/span>That added more instruments.\u00a0 <\/span>Bob is a spectacular keyboardist. \u00a0<\/span>His training was classical organ, so again\r\nthis was a big shift for him in the same way it had been for Marcia.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Charlotte\r\nhad been playing the autoharp, but she wanted to launch into the actual harp,\r\nso Bob bought her one.\u00a0 <\/span>She literally\r\nlearned to play that harp in the midst of spontaneous worship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Bob\r\nand Charlotte\u2019s daughter, Amy, was becoming a pretty decent violinist, and she\r\njoined in.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\ncould go on and on, but you get the picture.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Before it was over, we had brass, strings, percussion, harp and percussion\r\nstrings like guitars and bass.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a\r\nmotley crew to look at, but the music that grew out of it was nothing less than\r\nphenomenal.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Most\r\nof our recordings were done in living room environments \u2014 and tiny ones at\r\nthat.\u00a0 <\/span>We were crammed together like\r\nsardines at times.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What\r\nbegan to emerge in the midst of this spontaneous worship was prophetic music,\r\nintimate music, boisterous praise.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Sometimes there was vocalizing, but much of the time, it was just the\r\ninstruments orchestrated together by Holy Spirit as though we were all being\r\nconducted with sheet music in front of us.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>It spanned the gamut of musical expression.\u00a0 <\/span>Some of it came forth as very melodic,\r\npeaceful, pastoral type music.\u00a0 <\/span>Some of\r\nit came forth sound more like jazz than anything else.\u00a0 <\/span>Some of it sounded Russian, or Chinese, or\r\nLatin, or Irish \u2013 take your pick!\u00a0 <\/span>Some\r\nof it really offended those with religious mindsets who didn\u2019t believe that\r\nHoly Spirit would express Himself like that.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Too bad!\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019ve no idea the\r\nenormous variety of praise and worship that came forth and how it ministered to\r\nso many different types of people.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nfact was that what came forth was totally spontaneous.\u00a0 <\/span>We played exactly what we all heard at the\r\nsame time.\u00a0 <\/span>No one had any music in front\r\nof them, and none of us had ever heard the music before we began to play.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What\r\nfollowed were experiences that are sometimes hard to describe adequately.\u00a0 <\/span>One evening as we were worshiping, the\r\nCaptain of the Hosts of Heaven appeared in our midst and knelt on one knee in\r\nfront of Della with spear in hand.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cCommand\r\nme,\u201d he said.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

If\r\nI said it took Della by surprise, that would be a masterpiece of\r\nunderstatement.\u00a0 <\/span>She looked around for a\r\nminute trying to figure out what she would say, and finally, she said, \u201cGo and\r\nretrieve the children!\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>It was a\r\nreference to the fact that several of us had children who were running from\r\nGod.\u00a0 <\/span>The angel straightened up, nodded\r\nhis head and vanished.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\r\nwasn\u2019t long thereafter that our daughter, Rebekah, who was in her early teens,\r\ndecided she\u2019d had enough of this constant praise and worship.\u00a0 <\/span>She went out the back door during one of our\r\nevening sessions and headed down the driveway toward Stateline Road.\u00a0 <\/span>The driveway was perhaps a quarter-mile\r\nlong.\u00a0 <\/span>As she reached Stateline Road,\r\nthree angels appeared \u2014 two on each side of her and one in front.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\r\nscared the living daylights out of her.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

She\r\nturned to walk back toward the house.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>The angels formed around her and guided her back to the house.\u00a0 <\/span>Her description was that they floated just\r\nabove the ground beside her.\u00a0 <\/span>When she\r\nreached the house, she saw it lit up on the outside with angels surrounding the\r\nplace and joining in with the ongoing worship inside.\u00a0 <\/span>She was speechless \u2014 and that\u2019s an\r\nunderstatement!\u00a0 <\/span>She ran in the house,\r\nran upstairs, closed the door to her bedroom and wouldn\u2019t come out until\r\nmorning.\u00a0 <\/span>She finally gained enough courage\r\nthe next day to tell us about it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

In\r\nthe summer of 1994, there was a fairly large group of us gathered\r\ntogether.\u00a0 <\/span>We were engaged in worship\r\nthat I would be more inclined to call spiritual warfare.\u00a0 <\/span>There was an intensity that was unlike\r\nanything we\u2019d ever known.\u00a0 <\/span>All of a\r\nsudden, the building began to shake.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>There was a rumbling noise, almost like an earthquake.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\nstopped what we were doing and ran outside.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>What we heard was the thundering a thousands of horses galloping in\r\nunison.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a audible display of the\r\nhost of heaven going forth to battle.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now,\r\nI know what some of you are thinking.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>The problem is that you cannot have an army of horsemen galloping\r\ntogether throughout heavily forested property with densely populated\r\ntrees.\u00a0 <\/span>It was nothing less than\r\nawe-inspiring.\u00a0 <\/span>We returned to our\r\ninstruments and resumed the prophetic worship\/warfare.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

These\r\nevents grew almost into everyday experiences.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>At times we were picked up corporately into the heavenlies.\u00a0 <\/span>Other times, we saw the hosts of Heaven\r\narrayed around us.\u00a0 <\/span>More times than I can\r\ncount, we audibly heard the angels singing with us and even playing instruments\r\nthat were not there.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Earlier,\r\nI talked about the fellowship in Spokane known as Eastgate.\u00a0 <\/span>The senior pastor was a prophetic leader by\r\nthe name of Royal Cronquist.\u00a0 <\/span>His wife\r\ncalled one day (memory says it was late 1992 or early 1993) to ask us to pray\r\nfor him because he was in bad shape, and for all practical purposes, on his\r\ndeath bed.\u00a0 <\/span>Earle and Marcia had come\r\ndown from Anchorage, so we gathered up our instruments and headed over to their\r\nhome.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\nsomehow squeezed ourselves into Royal\u2019s bedroom with our instruments and\r\nsurrounded his bed.\u00a0 <\/span>He\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>wasn\u2019t comatose, but not far from it.\u00a0 <\/span>We launched into spontaneous worship.\u00a0 <\/span>It was some of the most intimate of worship,\r\nand a call to the very intimate presence of the Lord.\u00a0 <\/span>I don\u2019t remember how long we worshiped \u2014\r\nperhaps a half-hour or 45 minutes.\u00a0 <\/span>All\r\nof a sudden, he sits up in bed, calls his wife and says, \u201cI\u2019m getting up!\u00a0 <\/span>I want my clothes.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\nexited the bedroom.\u00a0 <\/span>That was a Saturday\r\nafternoon.\u00a0 <\/span>Before we left the home, he\r\nasked us to please bring our instruments and share that kind of worship at\r\nEastgate on Sunday.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There\r\nwere thirteen of us who gathered at Eastgate the following Sunday morning.\u00a0 <\/span>After introductions, we dived into the same\r\nflow of worship we\u2019d experienced in Royal\u2019s home.\u00a0 <\/span>Most of us just closed our eyes and began\r\nflowing with the worship.\u00a0 <\/span>The body of\r\nsound around us kept increasing.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\ndidn\u2019t open my eyes to look, but my first impression was that some of the folks\r\nin the fellowship had joined us on the platform.\u00a0 <\/span>We began hearing additional instruments as\r\nwell.\u00a0 <\/span>We lost track of time.\u00a0 <\/span>When we finished and opened our eyes, people\r\nwere pointing.\u00a0 <\/span>They told us that angels\r\nhad appeared all around us visibly while we were worshiping.\u00a0 <\/span>It was the first of many experiences with the\r\nangelic chorus and orchestra joining us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

If\r\nI seem to be over-emphasizing this, our objective wasn\u2019t the angels or the\r\nunusual and supernatural experiences that were happening: it was the fact that\r\nwe were experiencing the very intimate presence of the Lord.\u00a0 <\/span>That, all by itself, brings the supernatural\r\nevents that follow.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve lost track of\r\nthe number of people who were healed of various diseases or set free from evil\r\nspirits \u2014 all while we were worshiping.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>No one laid hands on them.\u00a0 <\/span>No one\r\nspecifically prayed for them.\u00a0 <\/span>It just\r\nhappened because of the presence of the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Think\r\nof Peter, for example, simply walking through a town and people being healed as\r\nhis shadow touched them.\u00a0 <\/span>It wasn\u2019t his\r\nshadow that healed them: it was the presence of the Lord that so permeated him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019ve\r\nbeen talking about a few of our experiences in this realm, but let\u2019s take a\r\nbreak here and take a look at the prophecies that surround the restoration of\r\nthe Tabernacle of David.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Amos 4:4 (NASB)<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Enter\r\nBethel and transgress; In Gilgal multiply transgression! Bring your sacrifices\r\nevery morning,\u00a0 <\/span>Your tithes every three\r\ndays.\u00a0 <\/span>Offer a thank offering also from\r\nthat which is leavened,\u00a0 <\/span>And proclaim\r\nfreewill offerings, make them known.\u00a0 <\/span>For\r\nso you love to do,<\/i> you sons of Israel,\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Declares the Lord GOD.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019m\r\nindebted to the Hebrew scholar, Chaim Bentorah, for the revelation he brings on\r\nthis passage.\u00a0 <\/span>His explanation makes\r\nclear just why Amos later prophesies the restoration of the Tabernacle of\r\nDavid.\u00a0 <\/span>Let me quote him directly.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Bethel\u00a0<\/span><\/u><\/i>means\r\nhouse of God.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/u>Gilgal<\/span><\/u><\/i>\u00a0means\r\nrolling together or uniting with God.<\/span><\/u>\u00a0\u00a0Both words express the\r\nidea of a place of worship and praise.\u00a0\u00a0Indeed, these two cities were\r\nplaces people went to experience the presence of God.\u00a0\u00a0Indeed,\r\nhistorically, these were equivalent to our present day convention centers or\r\nretreats.\u00a0\u00a0People would travel from miles around to go to Bethel\r\nand\/or Gilgal to worship God.\u00a0\u00a0This was a gathering place for lots of\r\ngood teaching, prophecies and \u201cmiracle services.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Literally,\r\nthousands of people would gather at Bethel and Gilgal to worship God and enjoy\r\nthe fun and fellowship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

So what can be so wrong with Bethel and Gilgal? Actually\r\nnothing.\u00a0\u00a0So what does the prophet mean: \u201cCome to Bethel and transgress,\r\ncome to Gilgal and multiply your transgressions?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0The word\r\ntransgress is\u00a0<\/span>pasha <\/span><\/i>which means to rebel or offend.\u00a0\u00a0This transgression is\r\nan offense in the speaking of divine power and spiritual\r\ninsight.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Then the prophet says to go to Gilgal and\u00a0multiply<\/i>\u00a0your\r\ntransgressions.\u00a0\u00a0The word\u00a0multiply <\/i>is\u00a0<\/span>ravah<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span>which has\r\nthe idea of increasing or making great, but in its Semitic root it \u00a0has\r\nthe idea of wearing something around your neck as a necklace as a symbol of\r\npride.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What was happening was that Bethel and Gilgal became a spiritual\r\namusement park or a spiritual county fair.\u00a0\u00a0It became a gathering\r\nplace for all the teachers and prophets and teacher and prophet wanna-be\u2019s to\r\nshow off their spiritual dynamic.\u00a0\u00a0It was a place where someone could\r\nout-rabbi a rabbi.\u00a0\u00a0It was a place to display your spiritual charm,\r\nand your spiritual maturity, a place to impress your fellow believer with\r\namazing testimonies.\u00a0\u00a0It became a place where all your spiritual\r\nachievements become an offense to God. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Gilgal became a place where you could wear your spiritual\r\nachievements around your neck for all to see and admire.\u00a0\u00a0A place\r\nwhere you could offer your sacrifices every morning or pay your tithes for all\r\nto notice.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Note that it is not Bethel and Gilgal that is being\r\ncondemned.\u00a0\u00a0It was the abuses that took place.\u00a0\u00a0It was\r\nabout people who spent so much time and energy trying to have a new thrill or\r\nexperience or new revelation that they devoted little to no time in discovery\r\nof the heart of God.\u00a0 <\/span>For Bethel and\r\nGilgal was a place you could go to seek God\u2019s heart.\u00a0 <\/span><\/a>However,\u00a0\u00a0in\r\nAmos\u2019s time people were making the pilgrimage to Bethel and Gilgal with a\r\npersonal motive, to promote one\u2019s own agenda and to do a little\r\nshowboating.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>\u2013\r\nChaim BenTorah<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As you can see from our sharing thus far, things have turned into a real adventure for us. But this has only been a drop in the bucket for what is about to unfold.
