\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We are talking about the core of the opposition that has faced\r\nthose who are committed to real praise and worship, and where that opposition\r\nand persecution began.\u00a0\u00a0When you understand Satan\u2019s original place in\r\nHeaven as Lucifer, the Archangel who surrounded the Throne with praise and\r\nworship, and how he was cast out of Heaven after his arrogance and rebellion\r\nand effort to overthrow the Throne of God, then you begin to understand why he\r\nso hates those who have replaced him with their love, their praise and their\r\nworship.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\u2019s get back to the beginning place of all opposition to\r\nworship.\u00a0\u00a0We\u2019ve already explored some of this before, but I\u2019d like to\r\ngive you the full picture.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Isaiah 14:4-23<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span>...Thou\r\nshalt<\/span> take up this proverb against the king of\r\nBabylon, and say, How<\/span> hath the oppressor ceased! the<\/span> golden city ceased!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>The\r\nLORD hath broken the staff of the wicked,\u00a0and<\/i>\u00a0the sceptre<\/span> of the rulers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>He who\r\nsmote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in\r\nanger, is persecuted,\u00a0and<\/i>\u00a0none hindereth<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/sup><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The whole earth is at rest,\u00a0and<\/i>\u00a0is quiet: they\r\nbreak forth into singing.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Yea,\r\nthe fir trees rejoice at thee,\u00a0and<\/i>\u00a0the cedars of\r\nLebanon,\u00a0saying<\/i>, Since<\/span> thou art laid down,\r\nno feller is come up against us.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Hell\r\nfrom beneath is moved for thee to meet\u00a0thee<\/i>\u00a0at thy coming: it stirreth<\/span> up the dead for thee,\u00a0even<\/i>\u00a0all\r\nthe chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings\r\nof the nations.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become\r\nweak as we? art<\/span> thou become like unto us?\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Thy\r\npomp is brought down to the grave,\u00a0and<\/i>\u00a0the noise of thy viols:\r\nthe worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/sup><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the\r\nmorning!\u00a0how<\/i><\/span>\u00a0art thou cut down to the\r\nground, which didst weaken the nations!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>For\r\nthou hast said in thine<\/span> heart, I will ascend into\r\nheaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the\r\nmount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>I will\r\nascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Yet thou shalt<\/span> be brought down to\r\nhell, to the sides of the pit.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>They\r\nthat see thee shall narrowly look upon thee,\u00a0and<\/i>\u00a0consider\r\nthee,\u00a0saying, Is<\/i>\u00a0this the man that made the earth to tremble,\r\nthat did shake kingdoms;\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>That<\/i><\/span>\u00a0made the world as a\r\nwilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof;\u00a0that<\/i>\u00a0opened not\r\nthe house of his prisoners?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

All the kings of the nations,\u00a0even<\/i>\u00a0all of them,\r\nlie in glory,\u00a0<\/span>every one<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in his own<\/span> house.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>But\r\nthou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch,\u00a0and as<\/i>\u00a0the\r\nraiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to\r\nthe stones of the pit; as a carcase<\/span> trodden under\r\nfeet.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Thou shalt<\/span>\r\nnot be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land,\u00a0and<\/i>\u00a0slain\r\nthy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their\r\nfathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the\r\nworld with cities.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>For I\r\nwill rise up against them, saith<\/span> the LORD of hosts,\r\nand cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith<\/span> the LORD.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>I will\r\nalso make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep\r\nit with the besom of destruction, saith<\/span> the LORD of\r\nhosts.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Isaiah\u2019s prophecy is only half of the picture (and we\u2019ll get to\r\nthe rest of it momentarily) but he lays things out in methodical fashion.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Isaiah is making it clear that the \u201cking of Babylon\u201d was none\r\nother than the former Lucifer.\u00a0\u00a0Notice that the hallmark of Lucifer\r\nas the fallen angel is \u201cHe who smote the people in wrath with a continual\r\nstroke.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0We\u2019ve already talked about the fact that Lucifer lost his\r\nplace as worship leader in Heaven (and Isaiah spells out clearly just why he\r\nlost that place) and he was replaced in God\u2019s economy by this family of people\r\ncreated in the image and likeness of God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The Hebrew word that Isaiah uses to describe this \u201ccontinual\r\nstroke\u201d that Lucifer \/ Satan uses is\u00a0<\/span>Makkah<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0This\r\nis a word which has specific intent attached \u2014 the intent of striking so\r\nviciously that one is killed, murdered.\u00a0\u00a0Satan wants no one around\r\nwho will worship the Lord, no one who will take that hallowed place he once\r\nknew.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And that is still his tactic today.\u00a0\u00a0More often than\r\nnot, he uses people whose words are designed to kill their effectiveness at\r\nworship or praise.\u00a0\u00a0He demeans and belittles everything that they\r\ndo.\u00a0\u00a0And more often than not, Holy Spirit will put someone in the\r\nplace of worship leadership who can scarcely carry a tune in a\r\nbucket.\u00a0\u00a0Why?\u00a0\u00a0Because the Lord uses the\r\nfoolish to confound the wise.<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Sonny (Gunvaldson<\/span>) was telling us\r\nabout a time when he and Joanne were at a meeting \u2014 perhaps a conference \u2014 in\r\nKelowna, BC.\u00a0\u00a0This couple came up to lead worship.\u00a0\u00a0Sonny\r\nand Joanne knew that these folks had a reputation for not being able to sing\r\nvery well, and they wondered why this couple was called.\u00a0\u00a0Sure\r\nenough, when they started to sing, they were off-key and certainly not\r\nharmonious.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What happened next was not what anyone expected.\u00a0\u00a0As\r\nthey got lost in worship, the glory of the Lord flooded that meeting.\u00a0\u00a0God\r\ndidn\u2019t care that they couldn\u2019t carry much of a tune.\u00a0\u00a0He cared that\r\nthey knew how to worship, and brother, did they ever know how to\u00a0<\/span>worship!\u00a0\u00a0The presence of\u00a0<\/span>the\r\nLord filled the place and everyone got lost in that presence.\u00a0\u00a0Nobody\r\nfocused on their singing or things being out of tune musically.\u00a0\u00a0They\r\nmay have been out of tune as far as the music was concerned but they were\r\ncertainly in tune as far as Holy Spirit was concerned.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We skip forward to one more part of Isaiah\u2019s prophecy to where\r\nhe says,\u00a0<\/span>The<\/span><\/span> whole\r\nearth is at rest,\u00a0and<\/i>\u00a0is quiet: they break forth into singing<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s\r\nbecause the persecutor, the accuser of the brethren, the murderer himself has\r\nbeen stopped.\u00a0\u00a0The word for \u201csinging\u201d is\u00a0<\/span>rinnah<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, a\r\nword for rejoicing, joy, shouting<\/span>, triumphal praise.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When God\u2019s people truly worship, when they praise, they bring\r\ndown the efforts of the Enemy.\u00a0\u00a0Nothing he says or does\r\nsucceeds.\u00a0\u00a0Those people under his influence fail at their\r\nefforts.\u00a0\u00a0The glory of the Lord is put on display and the world gets\r\nto see the winning hand of praise and worship.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There is so much I could go into in Isaiah\u2019s prophecy, but I\r\nwant to go on to Ezekiel\u2019s prophecy, which completes the word that Isaiah\r\ndelivered.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ezekiel 28:11-19<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span>Moreover\r\nthe word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, take up a lamentation\r\nupon the king of Tyrus<\/span>, and say unto him, Thus saith<\/span> the Lord GOD;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Thou\u00a0<\/span>sealest<\/span><\/span>\u00a0up the sum, full of\r\nwisdom, and perfect in beauty.\u00a0\u00a0Thou hast been in Eden the garden of\r\nGod; every precious stone\u00a0was<\/i>\u00a0thy covering, the sardius<\/span>, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and\r\nthe jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the\r\nworkmanship of thy tabrets<\/span> and of thy pipes was\r\nprepared in thee in the day that thou wast<\/span> created.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Thou\u00a0art<\/i>\u00a0the anointed cherub that covereth<\/span>; and I have set thee\u00a0so<\/i>: thou wast<\/span> upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and\r\ndown in the midst of the stones of fire.\u00a0\u00a0Thou\u00a0wast<\/i><\/span>\u00a0perfect in thy ways from the day that thou\r\nwast<\/span> created, till iniquity was found in thee.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst\r\nof thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as\r\nprofane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub,\r\nfrom the midst of the stones of fire.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Thine<\/span><\/span> heart was lifted up\r\nbecause of thy beauty,<\/span> thou hast corrupted thy wisdom\r\nby reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee\r\nbefore kings, that they may behold thee.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n


\r\n
\r\n<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine<\/span> iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffic; therefore\r\nwill I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I\r\nwill bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold\r\nthee.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at\r\nthee: thou shalt<\/span> be a terror, and never\u00a0shalt<\/i><\/span>\u00a0thou\u00a0be<\/i>\u00a0any more.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0All of the pieces of these combined prophecies come\r\ntogether to give us a picture of Satan\u2019s arrogance, the unbelievable\r\nhard-headedness he has in believing that he could unseat the Lord from His\r\nThrone, and the fact that everything he touched (and touches today) becomes\r\ndiscordant and contaminated.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I could really wax political at this moment, but won\u2019t for the\r\nsake of these notes other than to say that we see the influence of Satan in all\r\nof the opposition against the president and the desire of goats on the left to\r\nsmear the sheep on the right.\u00a0\u00a0There!\u00a0\u00a0How\u2019s that for a\r\ncommentary!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let me wrap up todays<\/span> discussion with\r\na look at the families of Asaph<\/span>, Heman<\/span>\r\nand Jeduthun<\/span> and the opposition they ran\r\ninto.\u00a0\u00a0Remember how they were chosen by David, appointed and anointed\r\nby the Lord to minister to Him on a 24-hour daily basis?\u00a0\u00a0Remember how\r\nDavid, at the end of his reign as King of Israel, strengthened their hand,\r\nincreased their numbers and appointed them to prophesy over Israel with their\r\ninstruments, as well as the Psalms of praise and worship that they sang?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Good!\u00a0\u00a0Then you will also remember how, three years\r\ninto the reign of Rehoboam<\/span>, Solomon\u2019s son, the Enemy\r\ncomes in the person of Rehoboam\u2019s<\/span> advisors \u2014\r\nself-seeking politicians.\u00a0\u00a0They wanted Rehoboam<\/span>\r\nto save money from the Royal Treasury that he was paying to support the 288 praisers<\/span> and worshipers.\u00a0\u00a0Sounded\r\nlogical to Rehoboam<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

He fired all 288 of them and sent them packing to their homes\r\nand fields.\u00a0\u00a0Now they would have to support themselves at various\r\ntrades at which none of them had needed to work for better than 40 years, and in\r\nsome cases over 80 years.\u00a0\u00a0Satan was purposed to rob Israel of the\r\npresence of the Lord, and the authority that had ruled in Israel for eight\r\ndecades.\u00a0\u00a0How better than to attack the families of those who brought\r\nthat authority and presence of the Lord to the nation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Eighty years would pass before that praise and worship resumed,\r\nbut it came during the reign of Jehoshaphat.\u00a0\u00a0It would happen\r\neighteen years into his reign that the Moabites and Ammonites gathered together\r\nwith a combined army that outnumbered the armies of Judah by a factor of\r\nperhaps 10:1.\u00a0\u00a0Jahaziel<\/span>, a descendant of Asaph<\/span>, stands and prophesies to Jehoshaphat and Judah\r\nfollowing a day of fasting.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

II Chronicles 20:15-17<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span>Hearken\r\nye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus\r\nsaith<\/span> the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed\r\nby reason of this great multitude; for the battle\u00a0is<\/i>\u00a0not\r\nyours, but God\u2019s.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

To morrow<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0go\r\nye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz<\/span>;\r\nand ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ye shall not\u00a0need<\/i>\u00a0to fight in this\u00a0battle<\/i>:\r\nset yourselves, stand ye\u00a0still<\/i>, and see the salvation of the LORD\r\nwith you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed;\u00a0<\/span>to morrow<\/span><\/span>\u00a0go\r\nout against them: for the LORD\u00a0will be<\/i>\u00a0with you.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0Ever notice how specific the Lord is in His\r\nprophecies?\u00a0\u00a0Brother!\u00a0\u00a0Not only is He telling them that\r\nthey need not be afraid, He tells them exactly where the Enemy will\r\nbe.\u00a0\u00a0He instructs them that they will not need to fight at all, but\r\nrather to stand still when they get there because the Lord is going to put a\r\nshow for them!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jehoshaphat remembers all of a sudden what his great, great,\r\ngreat grandfather had done in appointing the families of Asaph<\/span>,\r\nHeman<\/span> and Jeduthun<\/span> to the\r\nministry of praise and worship.\u00a0\u00a0The reminder had come in the form of\r\nJahaziel<\/span>, a great descendant of Asaph<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0So\r\nhe stands up after Jahaziel\u2019s<\/span> prophecy and issues the\r\nfollowing command.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

II Chronicles 20:20-21<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span>And\r\nthey rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa<\/span>: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said,\r\nHear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your\r\nGod, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers\r\nunto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out\r\nbefore the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy\u00a0<\/span>endureth<\/span><\/i><\/span>\u00a0for\r\never.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0The rest of the story you know.\u00a0\u00a0With the\r\nfamilies of Asaph<\/span>, Heman<\/span>\r\nand Jeduthun<\/span> going out before the army and praising\r\nGod and worshiping Him, all of a sudden the enemies turned on each other and\r\nkilled each other off.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

During the next seven years of Jehoshaphat\u2019s reign, the three\r\npraising and worshiping families were restored to their places and Jehoshaphat\r\nprospered like you can\u2019t even imagine.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When Jehoshaphat dies, however, and his son takes the throne, he\r\nrepeats the scandals of the previous kings and abandons the ministry of praise\r\nand worship.\u00a0\u00a0The families once again have to fend for themselves as\r\ntheir place in the temple is removed.\u00a0\u00a0This cycle repeats itself over\r\nand over again for the next two centuries as kings come to power who reinstate\r\nthem, and then kings who succeed those kings kick them out again.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Finally, Judah is carried away into captivity.\u00a0\u00a0Israel\r\n(the remaining tribes) had been taken into captivity many years\r\nprior.\u00a0\u00a0Not until Esther is raised up to become Queen with Xerxes I (Ahasuerus<\/span>, in Scripture) do we see the re-emergence of the\r\nfamilies of Asaph<\/span>, Heman<\/span>\r\nand Jeduthun<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Esther and Xerxes have a son who is called Artaxerxes<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0He\r\ncomes to the throne at the age of 14 years after his father is\r\nassassinated.\u00a0\u00a0Esther becomes Queen Mother and guides Artaxerxes<\/span> behind the scenes.\u00a0\u00a0Nehemiah is\r\nappointed to become his cup-bearer and is ultimately appointed governor over\r\nthe (now)-province of Judah.\u00a0\u00a0Not long thereafter, Ezra is given\r\npermission to return and rebuild the temple in Jerusalem.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
