Dealing With The Spirit of Poverty, Part 2<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

You\u2019ll hear me say this again\r\nand again \u2013 not only in this series, but in many Coffee Breaks throughout the\r\nyears.\u00a0 <\/span>It is important to see and\r\nunderstand some of the principal causes behind poverty.\u00a0 <\/span>Poverty is not the will of God.\u00a0 <\/span>Poverty is a curse that we either bring upon ourselves\r\nor suffer because past generations in our family have opened the spiritual\r\ndoors for the curse.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Before we finish the opposite side of the\r\nprophetic word that Moses delivered to Israel concerning either the blessings,\r\nor their failure to keep the Word of the Lord, and the curses that would\r\nfollow, let me point out something that may or may not be obvious.\u00a0 <\/span>We all know that Israel came out of Egypt\r\nwith a slave mentality.\u00a0 <\/span>For generations,\r\nthe name and presence of the Lord had become a tradition \u2013 not a reality.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Moses delivered the Law to Israel.\u00a0 <\/span>The apostle Paul refers to this as \u201cThe Law\r\nof Sin and Death.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>In writing to the\r\nEkklesia in Rome, Paul made the following statement.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Romans 8:2-9<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>For\r\nthe law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of\r\nsin and death. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>For\r\nwhat the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending\r\nhis own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the\r\nflesh: <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>That\r\nthe righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the\r\nflesh, but after the Spirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

For they that are\r\nafter the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the\r\nSpirit the things of the Spirit. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>For to be carnally\r\nminded is<\/i> death; but to be spiritually minded is<\/i> life and\r\npeace.\u00a0 <\/span>Because the carnal mind is<\/i>\r\nenmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can\r\nbe. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>So\r\nthen they that are in the flesh cannot please God. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>But ye are not in the\r\nflesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if\r\nany man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

While the Law of the Spirit of Life in\r\nChrist Jesus makes us free from the Law of Sin and Death, it does not negate\r\nthe consequences if we choose the flesh over obedience in the Spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>Do you understand what I\u2019m getting at?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\u2019ve\r\nbeen delivered from the sword hanging over our heads for our failures when we\r\nlive in and under the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus.\u00a0 <\/span>We know that everything we have belongs to\r\nthe Lord in the first place.\u00a0 <\/span>He has the\r\nright to ask anything of us.\u00a0 <\/span>He has the\r\nright to require that we give, that we tithe, that we sow seed, etc.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\ndifference is that when we live under the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ\r\nJesus, it becomes a joy, an act of love, an adventure in watching God move in\r\nour lives because of our loving responsiveness to Him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Last\r\nweek we dealt with the expansiveness of the curse of poverty.\u00a0 <\/span>Before we get too far along today, let\u2019s take\r\na look at the opposite picture \u2014 the picture of the Blessing of the Lord, the\r\nLaw of Prosperity, if you will.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Deuteronomy 28: 1-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And\r\nit shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the\r\nLORD thy God, to observe and<\/i> to do all his commandments which I command\r\nthee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of\r\nthe earth:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee,\r\nif thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. <\/span>3<\/span><\/sup>Blessed\r\nshalt<\/i> thou be<\/i> in the city, and blessed shalt<\/i> thou be<\/i>\r\nin the field. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>Blessed\r\nshall be<\/i> the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit\r\nof thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>Blessed shall be<\/i>\r\nthy basket and thy store.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Blessed shalt<\/i> thou be<\/i> when thou comest in, and\r\nblessed shalt<\/i> thou be<\/i> when thou goest out. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>The LORD shall cause\r\nthine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they\r\nshall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. The LORD\r\nshall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou\r\nsettest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy\r\nGod giveth thee.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he\r\nhath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God,\r\nand walk in his ways. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>And all people of the\r\nearth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be\r\nafraid of thee. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of\r\nthy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in\r\nthe land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to\r\ngive the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine\r\nhand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and\r\nthou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken\r\nunto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to\r\nobserve and to do them<\/i>: <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I\r\ncommand thee this day, to<\/i> the right hand, or to<\/i> the left, to go\r\nafter other gods to serve them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\nknow that as soon as I start teaching on this topic, folks who are tormented by\r\nthe Spirit of Poverty start telling me that I\u2019m becoming a \u201cprosperity\r\npreacher.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Wrong!\u00a0 <\/span>The message of prosperity has been out of\r\nbalance in the body of Christ simply because it leaves out the other side of\r\nthe picture.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nfolks begin to understand the depth of the control and manipulation of the\r\nSpirit of Poverty in their lives, they will realize that prosperity IS THE WILL\r\nOF GOD for them.\u00a0 <\/span>They just need to\r\nunderstand the full significance of the Spirit of Prosperity vs. the Spirit of\r\nPoverty.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\u2019s\r\nback up for a minute and cover some territory we covered last week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\nare first and foremost, spirit beings.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>We were created in the image and likeness of God.\u00a0 <\/span>The fact that Adam and Eve brought the human\r\nrace under subjection to the serpent, Satan, because of their disobedience\r\nchanged nothing as far as our creation is concerned.\u00a0 <\/span>We are spirit beings created for union and\r\nfellowship with God.\u00a0 <\/span>That union and that\r\nfellowship means that we are no longer our own.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Our will and our behavior is \u2013 and must be \u2013 subject to His Will and\r\ndesires.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nwe violate that union and violate the specific principles that God has set\r\nforth in order for our lives to prosper in His presence and in fellowship with\r\nthe Lord Jesus Christ, we open doors in the realm of the spirit to evil spirits\r\nwhose entire purpose is to subvert our relationship.\u00a0 <\/span>Their objective is to alter our lives so that\r\nwe no longer reflect the glory and the magnificence of our status as Lords and\r\nKings under the Lordship and Kingship of the Lord Jesus Christ!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nprimary evil spirit that plagues believers who open the door because of their\r\nfailure to walk in total union and obedience to the Lord is the Spirit of\r\nPoverty.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

This\r\nspirit has so many characteristics and aspects as to boggle the mind.\u00a0 <\/span>It has nothing to do with money, and yet the\r\npresence of a lot of money, or the absence of money can be symptomatic.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\u2019ll\r\ntalk more in greater detail about it, but I like to refer to the mentality of\r\nthis spirit as the \u201cAlmost-Enough Mentality.\u201d\u00a0\r\n<\/span>We can also call it the \u201cNot-Quite-Enough Mentality.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019m\r\ngoing to quote this again next week, but let me take you to something that\r\nJesus said.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Mark 1124<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\u201cFor verily I say\r\nunto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be\r\nthou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe\r\nthat those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have\r\nwhatsoever he saith<\/u>.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

How\r\nis it that the lack of provision for something, or the lack of health, or the\r\npresence of some ailment or affliction becomes the standard by which folks live\r\ninstead of God\u2019s Word?\u00a0 <\/span>Why does it\r\nbecome the rule in a person\u2019s life?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019ll\r\ntell you why.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Doubt.\u00a0 <\/span>Unbelief.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Unbelief becomes the yardstick by which things are measured.\u00a0 <\/span>People read Jesus\u2019 statement, and then say,\r\n\u201cYeah, But\u2026..\u201d \u00a0<\/span>And as soon as they add\r\nthe \u201cBut\u201d into their conversation and confession, they\u2019ve lost any chance of\r\nhaving \u201cwhatsoever he saith.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

No,\r\nI take that back.\u00a0 <\/span>They DO have <\/span>\u201cwhatsoever\r\nhe saith.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The <\/span>\u201cwhatsoever he saith\u201d<\/span> is \u201cBut<\/b>.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>It falls short of what they need.\u00a0 <\/span>It doesn\u2019t quite meet the need.\u00a0 <\/span>People almost get well.\u00a0 <\/span>They have almost enough to pay their bills,\r\nbut not quite enough.\u00a0 <\/span>So they continue\r\nin need.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There\u2019s\r\none more principle I will share with you today.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As\r\nthe age of the prophets closed out and the so-called 400 silent years\r\ncommenced, Malachi addressed a problem occurring amongst a poverty-stricken\r\npeople in captivity.\u00a0 <\/span>He addressed the\r\nreasons for their poverty.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Malachi 3:8-11:<\/span><\/u><\/b> \u201cWill a man\r\nrob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In\r\ntithes and offerings. Ye are<\/span>\r\ncursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even<\/span> this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the\r\nstorehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith,\r\nsaith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour\r\nyou out a blessing, that there shall<\/span>\r\nnot be room<\/span> enough to receive it<\/span>. And I will rebuke the\r\ndevourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground;\r\nneither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the\r\nLORD of hosts.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\nknow all the arguments against tithing.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>I\u2019ve preached in opposition to the concept for many years.\u00a0 <\/span>And I\u2019ve been wrong in so doing.\u00a0 <\/span>The most common argument raised among\r\nChristians today is that tithing is not a New Testament command.\u00a0 <\/span>Sorry.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>It is.\u00a0 <\/span>Like so many people, I\r\nmissed it.\u00a0 <\/span>There isn\u2019t time today to go\r\nthere, but let me address it like this: <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Leviticus\r\n27:30 makes the following statement, <\/span>\u201cAll the tithe\u2026\u2026is\r\nholy unto the Lord.\u201d<\/span>\r\n<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Since\r\nthere were three different tithes amounting to as much as 30% of one\u2019s\r\n\u201cincrease,\u201d it took in everything we have usually counted as \u201cofferings.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

My\r\nobjective today is not to share on tithing, but to deal with the principle.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Everything we have belongs to the Lord!<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>Under the Law of Moses, not less than 10% of\r\nit had to be returned to the Lord, \u201cthat there may be meat in mine house.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>The remaining tithes \u2013 offerings \u2013 went to\r\ntake care of the widows, the fatherless, \u201cthe stranger in the land,\u201d etc.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\na person takes that which is holy unto the Lord and uses it for himself, he\r\nbrings a curse upon himself and his household.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>That curse is poverty.\u00a0 <\/span>The curse\r\nis perpetual need.\u00a0 <\/span>The curse is that\r\nyour work, your personal efforts, your job will never be enough to catch up\r\nwith the needs that exist.\u00a0 <\/span>Everything\r\nyou have will wear out, break down, deteriorate before its time, or get stolen\r\nfrom you.\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019ll lose your job, or get\r\npassed over for a promotion, be one of those who get caught in massive\r\ncorporate \u201crestructurings\u201d \u2013 you get the picture.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\ndon\u2019t want to belabor the issue, but it is important to see and understand some\r\nof the principal causes behind poverty.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Poverty is not<\/b> the will of God.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Poverty is a curse that we either bring upon ourselves or suffer because\r\npast generations in our family have opened the spiritual doors for the curse.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\nknow that this is all pretty heavy stuff, but it is essential that we all\r\nunderstand just how the serpent has tried to afflict us.\u00a0 <\/span>When we see his modus operandi, we can make a\r\nwillful decision to ignore him and the fears he wants to bring our way.\u00a0 <\/span>We can deal with the unbelief that opens the\r\ndoors for his invasion in our lives.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Uhhh\r\nHuhh.\u00a0 <\/span>The almost-enough mentality.\u00a0 <\/span>Make that the not-quite-enough\r\nmentality.\u00a0 <\/span>The kind of thinkin\u2019 that\r\nkeeps you always on the edge, never having quite enough to pay your bills,\r\nnever being able to get ahead, always living with a car in need of repair,\r\nalways living with a house where the plumbing leaks, one or more of the light\r\nswitches don\u2019t work, broken light fixtures, a sofa so ratty it ought to have\r\nbeen hauled out to the dump and burned\u2026.you know what I\u2019m talking about.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Remember\r\nhow we talked last week?\u00a0 <\/span>Ever notice how\r\nfear, doubt and unbelief are so much easier to accept than faith?\u00a0 <\/span>Ever notice how easy it is to believe the\r\nworst instead of the best?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Right.\u00a0 <\/span>Some folks think this is \u201cnormal.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Jesse Duplantis got it right: \u201cthe Spirit of\r\nStoopid!\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Not taking God at His Word.\u00a0 <\/span>Always settling for whatever.\u00a0 <\/span>Thinking \u201csecond best\u201d or \u201cthird best\u201d is\r\njust fine.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\r\nisn\u2019t even second-rate living.\u00a0 <\/span>It isn\u2019t\r\nliving at all.\u00a0 <\/span>You call yourself a\r\nChristian, and then take \u201cwhatever.\u201d\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Last time I checked, that was about as unscriptural and un-Christian as\r\nanything can possibly be.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019ve\r\ntalked in the past about the screwy doctrines concerning \u201cPaul\u2019s Thorn\u201d and I\r\nwant to touch on that today.\u00a0 <\/span>There\u2019s a\r\ndimension of that kind of sick thinking we didn\u2019t even touch on last week, and\r\nI\u2019d like to finish it off \u2013 or at least make some headway with it today.\u00a0 <\/span>Paul\u2019s thorn was not the will of God, and God\r\ndidn\u2019t bring it on him to teach him some kind of lesson.\u00a0 <\/span>What God\u2019s response to Paul was, \u201cMy grace is\r\nsufficient for thee.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Hello?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Grace\r\nis the empowerment by Holy Spirit to deal with and overcome any issue.\u00a0 <\/span>When Paul asked the Lord to deal with the\r\nproblem of this evil spirit that was buffeting him, the Lord simply said, \u201cYou\r\ndeal with it!\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve given you both the\r\nauthority and the power.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nother day, I said that I\u2019ve heard Christians give one excuse after another as\r\nto why they live with certain sicknesses, diseases or afflictions.\u00a0 <\/span>After a while it gets nauseating.\u00a0 <\/span>Sometimes I wonder if Christians spout more\r\ndoubt and unbelief than the so-called unbelievers.\u00a0 <\/span>If it isn\u2019t one thing, it\u2019s another.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Guess\r\nthis is where we will pause for today.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Still have lots of territory to cover, so we will pick it up again next\r\nweek.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
