Dealing With The Spirit of Poverty, Part 6<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\u2019ve been talking about the Law of Sowing and Reaping, and how\r\nit is so integral to the Law of Prosperity.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>As noted last week, it is the absolute antithesis of the Spirit of\r\nPoverty.\u00a0 <\/span>Let\u2019s see how far we can get in\r\ntoday\u2019s discussion in understanding the poverty mindset and the spirit that\r\ndrives it.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Matthew\r\n6:24<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\r\n<\/span>\"No man can serve or be in bondage to two different\r\ncontrollers and opposing systems of [mind] control: for he will rather detest\r\nand persecute the one and be consumed with desire for the other; or else he\r\nwill adhere to and care for the one and detest and think in opposition to the\r\nother.\u00a0 You cannot serve and yield to God [and His mode of thinking and\r\noperating], and at the same time be in bondage to [and have confidence in] the\r\nSpirit of Poverty and Avarice.\" <\/span>(RAC Translation and Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Poverty\r\nand avarice do go together.\u00a0 The spirit of poverty is part of the curse\r\nthat came upon mankind and the world as a result of Adam and Eve's partaking of\r\nthe Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil -- God's holy portion in the Garden,\r\nreserved to Himself.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nSpirit of Poverty & Avarice was born when Adam & Eve ate of the Tree of\r\nthe Knowledge of Good and Evil.\u00a0 <\/span>They\r\nrobbed God of His portion.\u00a0 <\/span>They went\r\nfrom a divinely-supplied economy to a work-based economy where they had to\r\nengage in hard, painful toil and sweat just to eat.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

See Genesis 4:5-8:<\/span><\/u>\u00a0 <\/span>Abel brings <\/span>\"the\r\nfirstlings of his flock, and the fat thereof.\"\u00a0 <\/span>This is the first,\r\nthe best of what he has.\u00a0 The term <\/span>\"and the fat\r\nthereof\"<\/span>\r\nin the Hebrew is a metaphor for the absolute finest.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Cain,\r\non the other hand, <\/span>\"brought of the fruit of the ground<\/u> an\r\noffering.\"\u00a0 <\/span>The\r\nHebrew word used here for \"offering\" is <\/span>minchah:<\/span><\/i><\/b> a bloodless,\r\ncostless donation or tribute.\u00a0 He didn't bring the firstfruits of his\r\nharvest: he brought that which was left over, that which wouldn't cost him\r\nanything or take away from his own supply.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Consider\r\nthe following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

1.<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The\r\nSpirit of Poverty is totally self-centered.\u00a0 It only thinks of its own\r\nneeds or desires.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

2. <\/span><\/b>The Spirit of Poverty\r\nis Avarice.\u00a0 It is the personification of greed.\u00a0 It is never\r\nsatisfied with \"enough.\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

3. <\/span><\/b>Corollary to greed is\r\nhoarding.\u00a0 People driven by this spirit have the need to store up\r\n\"for emergencies\" -- but not just normal \"storing\r\nup.\"\u00a0 They hoard, they gather to excess, they put away extra food,\r\nextra groceries, extra money, extra tools and supplies, extra anything<\/i>,\r\nto the point that things spoil, they rot, and they decay in storage.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Luke\r\n12:15-21:<\/span><\/u>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>A<\/span><\/b>nd\r\nhe said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man\u2019s life consisteth<\/span> not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>And he\r\nspake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought\r\nforth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do,\r\nbecause I have no room where to bestow my fruits?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and\r\nbuild greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>And I will say to my\r\nsoul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat,\r\ndrink, and be merry.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\r\n\r\n

But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be\r\nrequired of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<\/span>So is he that layeth<\/span>\r\nup treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

4.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>The Spirit of Poverty is totally driven by the Fear of\r\nDeath.\u00a0 The Fear of Man works hand in hand with the Spirit of the Fear of\r\nDeath to keep one from appearing to be in need or dire straits to those around.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

5.\u00a0<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The Spirit of Poverty robs people financially.\u00a0 It is a\r\nthief who comes to steal, kill and destroy.\u00a0 It deprives them of trust in\r\nGod and in His Word.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

6.\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>The Spirit of Poverty causes Christians to short-change God at\r\nevery hand.\u00a0 When they <\/span>tithe, they tithe on the \"net\"\r\nrather than the \"gross\" paycheck, and then wonder why their money\r\nnever increases or multiplies to more than supply every possible need.\u00a0\r\nThey only see the actual amount of what they get to deposit in the bank or\r\nreceive in cash instead of recognizing that the money deducted for payroll\r\ntaxes, insurance and social security is still part of their income.\u00a0 Thus,\r\nwhen they pay their tithe, they make God wait in line until the taxes are paid,\r\ntheir life insurance or health insurance is paid, and their social security\r\nretirement has been paid.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Because this isn't money they get to spend -- at least right now\r\n-- they treat it as though it isn't income.\u00a0 It is a relatively small\r\nportion of their total income, but it is still part of it.\u00a0 Hence, they\r\ncheat God of a portion of His money.\u00a0 It isn't any different than Adam taking\r\none bite of one piece of fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and\r\nEvil.\u00a0 He didn't take the whole tree: just one bite of one piece of\r\nfruit.\u00a0 The curse came nonetheless.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

7.\u00a0<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The Spirit of Poverty brings and promotes doubt and\r\nunbelief.\u00a0 It tricks you into doubting God's Word; and specifically,\r\nMatthew 6:30-34.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

8.\u00a0<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The Spirit of Poverty stands in direct opposition to the\r\npromises of God.\u00a0 It opposes the Blessing of Abraham.\u00a0 It opposes and\r\nexalts itself above the name, the authority, the power, the character, the\r\npersonality and the very essence of the Lord Jesus Christ. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

II Corinthians 10:4-5:<\/span><\/u>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>For the weapons and\r\ninstruments of our war and executed actions [against Satan] do not have their\r\norigins and [weak, impotent] operation in natural flesh and human abilities,\r\nbut they are skillful, potent and powerful \u2013 like dynamite \u2013 through God to the\r\ndemolition and extinction of all fortified and guarded places of opinions in\r\nopposition,<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Bringing down violently and demolishing (to total extinction)\r\nall mental reasonings and thought processes, and every mental barrier or arrogant\r\nand self-elevated attitude that justifies itself in opposition to the knowledge\r\nof God; bringing into captivity and making a prisoner every perception of the\r\nintellect and every mental purpose or determination to the compliance and\r\nsubmission of Christ and His anointing [in the same way that He complied with\r\nthe will and desire of the Father];<\/span> (RAC Translation and Amplification<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\r\nme pause momentarily to talk about something that is still very real in the\r\nbody of Christ and how it cooperates with the spirit and mindset of poverty.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

There\r\nis a doctrine that has permeated the body of Christ during the past roughly 150\r\nyears that is rooted in the Fear of Death.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>It is the \u201cTribulation\/Rapture\u201d theology.\u00a0 <\/span>Because of the Fear of Death, many Christians\r\nfear a period commonly referred to as \u201cthe Great Tribulation,\u201d despite the fact\r\nthat there is no such phraseology anywhere in the Word.\u00a0 <\/span>Based on a misunderstanding and\r\nmisinterpretation of some things that both Daniel and John witnessed, this\r\nso-called \u201ctribulation\u201d period could last anywhere from 3 \u00bd to 7 years.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Because\r\nof the pictures that John draws in the book of Revelation folks draw the\r\nconclusion that there is no way they could survive a period like that.\u00a0 <\/span>They fear death because they\u2019ve been\r\ncontaminated by that spirit and fail to take into account the first chapters of\r\nRevelation which draw a crystal clear picture of an overcoming Bride who is\r\nable to overcome, and as a result they look for a \u201cRapture\u201d event that will\r\nsnatch them out of the ongoing doom and gloom.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

They\r\nneglect all the pictures that John uses in wrapping up the book of Revelation\r\nas he talks about a very victorious Bride of Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>They ignore John\u2019s statement, which reads as\r\nfollows:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Revelation 19:6-9<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And I heard as it\r\nwere the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as\r\nthe voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent\r\nreigneth. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Let us be glad and\r\nrejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and\r\nhis wife hath made herself ready<\/u>. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>And to her was granted that she should\r\nbe arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the\r\nrighteousness of saints. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>And\r\nhe saith unto me, Write, Blessed are<\/i> they which are called unto the\r\nmarriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings\r\nof God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Are\r\nyou seeing it?\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cLet us be glad and rejoice and\r\ngive honour to Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come and His wife hath made\r\nherself ready!\u201d<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>What did she\r\nhave to do to make herself \u201cready?\u201d\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Overcome Satan.\u00a0 <\/span>Overcome all the\r\npressures (Greek: thlipsis<\/span><\/i><\/b>\r\n- tribulation) that come upon the world.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Overcome the three families of Fear.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Overcome their flesh.\u00a0 <\/span>Walk in\r\nlove and purity.\u00a0 <\/span>Be the true representation\r\nof Jesus Christ\u2019s counterpart and other self.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

OK.\u00a0 <\/span>Enough of my digression.\u00a0 <\/span>Back to our list of characteristics.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

9.\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>The Spirit of Poverty rejects the fact that Jesus' death on the\r\nCross cancelled out its very existence.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

10.<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>The Spirit of Poverty revels in want, in need, in doing without,\r\nin living an austere, sub-normal life on the bleeding edge of death.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\r\n<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Before\r\nwe continue this list, let\u2019s reprise Jesus\u2019 statement in Matthew 6:24.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Matthew 6:24<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\"No man can\r\nserve or be in bondage to two different controllers and opposing systems of\r\n[mind] control: for he will rather detest and persecute the one and be consumed\r\nwith desire for the other; or else he will adhere to and care for the one and\r\ndetest and think in opposition to the other.\u00a0 You cannot serve and yield\r\nto God [and His mode of thinking and operating], and at the same time be in\r\nbondage to [and have confidence in] the Spirit of Poverty and Avarice.\" <\/span>(RAC Translation\r\nand Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Before\r\nwe try to finish the list of characteristics that describe the Spirit of\r\nPoverty, let\u2019s touch on perhaps what we can describe as the root of this spirit,\r\nand that is a Spirit of Deception.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Jesse\r\nDuplantis has a phrase the Holy Spirit has given him which accurately describes\r\nthe results that come from the Spirit of Deception \u2013 \u201cGenetically Altered\r\nBible\u201d or \u201cGenetically Altered Scripture.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\nhave a term for this.\u00a0 <\/span>We call it\r\n\u201cphilosophy.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

One\r\nof the ways in which the Spirit of Deception works is to get folks to focus on\r\nthe traditions of man.\u00a0 <\/span>Perhaps the best\r\ndescription of the \u201cTraditions of Man\u201d is this:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\ntraditions of man are nothing more and nothing less than the accumulation of\r\nideas formulated from one generation to another (and passed on down throughout\r\nthe generations) derived from experiences which resulted from the contamination\r\nof doubt and unbelief, and resulting in personal failure to see and experience\r\nthe promises of God established by His Word.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\r\nme put it another way.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\u2019s\r\nsay that someone a hundred years ago prayed for healing from some particular\r\ndisease or affliction.\u00a0 <\/span>Their prayer was\r\ncontaminated with doubt or unbelief, and the confession of their mouth\r\nfollowing their prayer for healing was an expression of hope that God would\r\nhear their prayer and perhaps feel kindly enough towards them to grant them\r\ntheir request.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

They\r\ndidn\u2019t receive their healing.\u00a0 <\/span>They told\r\ntheir friends or family members that \u201cit must not have been God\u2019s will.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>The friends or family members took that\r\nstatement as Truth and began to repeat it; and when they themselves needed\r\nhealing and failed to receive it because of negative confessions or expressions\r\nof doubt, \u201cit must not have been God\u2019s will\u201d became etched in stone.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Subsequent\r\ngenerations picked up on it and repeated it.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>It became a tradition and a doctrine which subsequently became embedded\r\nin the teaching and preaching of ministers.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And\r\nit was a flat-out lie which completely ignored all of the Scriptures containing\r\nGod\u2019s promises of healing, deliverance, restoration and wholeness.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\r\nsame kind of tradition got picked up in the lie that \u201cGod doesn\u2019t want you to\r\nprosper and be in health.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>In III John\r\n2, the word translated \u201cprosper\u201d is the word <\/span>eudoo<\/span><\/i><\/b>, which means: to\r\nsucceed in reaching, to succeed in business affairs<\/i><\/b>.\u00a0 <\/span>The lie is part and parcel of the mindset and\r\nSpirit of Poverty.\u00a0 <\/span>That lie is what has\r\nled many to vow a vow of poverty because they believe that God wants them\r\n\u201chumble,\u201d as though poverty has something to do with true humility.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Take\r\na look at some of the things Jesus said, as well as both Paul and Peter.\u00a0 <\/span>Let\u2019s begin with an event in which Jesus was\r\nconfronted by the Pharisees:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
