Dealing With The Spirit of Poverty, Part 7<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Integral to the Spirit of Poverty is the Spirit of\r\nDeception.\u00a0 <\/span>It all began in the Garden of\r\nEden.\u00a0 <\/span>We were discussing the lie of\r\ntradition last week and how much tradition has contaminated religious thinking\r\nthroughout the centuries.\u00a0 <\/span>Empty and\r\nprofitless traditions are not the only in way which the Spirit of Deception\r\noperates.\u00a0 <\/span>Let\u2019s see if we can wrap up\r\ntoday and take this back to the beginning in the Garden. <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Genesis 3:1-6<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b>\r\n<\/span><\/b>Now the serpent was more subtle than any\r\nbeast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman,\r\nYea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>And the woman said\r\nunto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of\r\nthe fruit of the tree which is<\/i> in the midst of the garden, God hath\r\nsaid, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>And the serpent said\r\nunto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>For God doth know\r\nthat in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be\r\nas gods, knowing good and evil.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And when the woman saw that the tree was<\/i> good for food,\r\nand that it was<\/i> pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one<\/i>\r\nwise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her\r\nhusband with her; and he did eat.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Error\r\nbegan with Eve when she began to listen to, and carry on a conversation with, a\r\nvoice that did nothing but question the Word of God.\u00a0 <\/span>The Serpent simply said, \u201cDid God really say\r\nyou weren\u2019t to eat of every tree of the Garden?\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Do\r\nyou see how things got twisted?\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cEvery\r\ntree\u201d wasn\u2019t the question.\u00a0 <\/span>It was one\r\nsingle tree \u2013 the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nvery first tactic of the Enemy, therefore, was to get Eve to entertain a\r\nquestion concerning God\u2019s Word.\u00a0 <\/span>Is that\r\nreally what God said?\u00a0 <\/span>What did He mean?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

And\r\nEve took the bait.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWhy, of course we\r\ncan eat of the trees of the Garden,\u201d she answers.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cBut we are forbidden to eat of the Tree of\r\nthe Knowledge of Good and Evil.\u00a0 <\/span>What\u2019s\r\nmore, we can\u2019t even touch it.\u00a0 <\/span>If we even\r\ntouch that tree, we will die.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

God\r\nhadn\u2019t said that!\u00a0 <\/span>In fact, it was their\r\nresponsibility to tend that tree.\u00a0 <\/span>They\r\njust couldn\u2019t eat of its fruit.\u00a0 <\/span>That was\r\nreserved for the Lord!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Thus\r\nEve added to what God had said \u2013 and what she added was both fear-motivated and\r\nfear-motivating.\u00a0 <\/span>Her response was not\r\n\u201cextra-Biblical,\u201d it was \u201cnon-Biblical.\u201d\u00a0\r\n<\/span>It wasn\u2019t something God had conveyed or even suggested in His command to\r\nAdam.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\r\nis interesting to read both Genesis 2:17 and Genesis 3:3 in the Hebrew\r\ntext.\u00a0 <\/span>When God warned Adam not to eat of\r\nthe Tree of Knowledge, He said, \u201cDeath will begin, and in dying, you will die.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What\r\nEve said was something quite different.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>\u201cIn the day we eat of that Tree, God will kill us.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>That is not at all what the Lord was\r\nconveying.\u00a0 <\/span>He wasn\u2019t saying that He was\r\nstanding over them with some kind of curse, waiting for them to breach His\r\nWord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

He\r\nwas warning them in love that to eat of the knowledge of good and evil by their\r\nown choice and decision.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

When\r\nHe had not revealed it by the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding or by the\r\nSpirit of Counsel and Might, it would cause a change in their existence such\r\nthat they would cease to be immortal.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Human\r\nflesh simply was not designed to receive the knowledge of good, or the\r\nknowledge of evil separate and apart from it coming by way of the Spirit of\r\nWisdom and Understanding \u2013 or the Spirit of Counsel and Might.\u00a0 <\/span>The impartation that comes by the Spirit of\r\nGod brings life.\u00a0 <\/span>It brings wisdom and revelation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Knowledge\r\nwhich comes by any other means comes by the hand of man.\u00a0 <\/span>And that supplants God, making man become his\r\nown god.\u00a0 <\/span>That kind of knowledge can only\r\nresult in death \u2013 whether by a process or immediate consequence.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Eve\u2019s\r\nimagination had run amuck.\u00a0 <\/span>She\r\ninterpreted what God had said through fear.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>Her very words questioned the love of God, and they questioned God\u2019s\r\nintegrity.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

This\r\nis where so many folks get messed up.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>They try to think for God or to imagine that He is saying something He\r\nisn\u2019t!\u00a0 <\/span>And, by Eve\u2019s addition to what\r\nGod said, she opened the door to fear.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>She was ready for both error and deception.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nSerpent actually answered Eve according to what God had originally said to\r\nAdam, \u201cDeath won\u2019t begin and in dying you won\u2019t die.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

He\r\ndeliberately contradicted what God had said, and then took off on the same mode\r\nof questioning God\u2019s integrity.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u201cGod\r\nis trying to withhold you from receiving the knowledge of good and evil because\r\nit would make you to be just like Him.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Just\r\nlike Him?\u00a0 <\/span>Wait a minute.\u00a0 <\/span>Adam and Eve were already like Him.\u00a0 <\/span>They were spirit-beings designed to live and\r\nfunction interdimensionally in both the natural world and the spirit realm.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nSerpent, Satan, was maligning God\u2019s heart and intent; and what\u2019s more, he was\r\ntelling Eve that she and Adam were really just natural, earthly beings who\r\ndidn\u2019t have access to the Heavenlies.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now\r\nhe says, \u201cGod knows that in the day you eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of\r\nGood and Evil that your eyes will be opened.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>You will possess the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding.\u00a0 <\/span>You will be just like God!\u00a0 <\/span>You will possess supernatural knowledge of\r\ngood and evil.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

That\r\nwas a flat-out lie!\u00a0 <\/span>It was a case of\r\nfirst-class deception \u2013 and Eve had opened herself up to it because she allowed\r\nher own imagination to consider and question God\u2019s motives.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nfact that she followed through and ate of the fruit of the tree was a given\r\nwhen she allowed the words of her own mouth to agree with a false conception of\r\nwhat God had said; and she followed that by listening to \u2013 and believing \u2013 a\r\nlie that demeaned her and Adam.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nSpirit of Deception always puts you down.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>It always questions God\u2019s motives.\u00a0\r\n<\/span>It always adds to God\u2019s Word in such a way as to alter your behavior and\r\ncause you to become disobedient to the Word.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nSpirit of Deception has a simple goal: to steal, to kill and to destroy every\r\nopportunity for the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding \u2013 the Spirit of Wisdom\r\nand Revelation \u2013 to reveal the love of the Lord Jesus Christ to you.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nSpirit of Deception has an objective of preventing you from receiving the kind\r\nof advice, admonition, and correction coming from the Spirit of Counsel and\r\nMight that will steer you towards knowing and understanding the heart\u2019s desire\r\nof the Lord Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>It always\r\nseeks to shortcut the Word in such a way that allows for instant gratification.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

David\r\nclearly understood the heart\u2019s desire of the Lord and the integrity of God\u2019s\r\nWord when he wrote the following concerning Joseph:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Psalm 105:17-19<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b>He sent a man before\r\nthem, even<\/i> Joseph, who<\/i> was sold for a servant: <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>Whose feet they hurt\r\nwith fetters: he was laid in iron:\u00a0 <\/span>Until\r\nthe time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Writing\r\nto the Ekklesia in Laodicea, John prophesies the Word of the Lord like this \u2013\r\nand it is a Word that reverses the curse that came with the deception in the\r\nGarden:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Revelation 3:18-19<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0\r\n<\/span><\/span><\/b>I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou\r\nmayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that<\/i>\r\nthe shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine<\/span>\r\neyes with eyesalve<\/span>, that thou mayest<\/span>\r\nsee. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Are\r\nwe good, thus far?\u00a0 <\/span>Have I been clear\r\nenough in helping you understand the roots of the Spirit of Poverty and its\r\nmindset?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Good!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Then,\r\nlet\u2019s see if we can finish the list of characteristics we began last week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

15.\u00a0<\/span><\/b> The Spirit of Poverty is a jealous spirit.\u00a0 This jealousy\r\nis less targeted towards the relationship between individuals, between husband\r\nand wife, or between friends and more targeted towards those who live their\r\nlives in abundance and prosperity.\u00a0 Poverty hates abundance (with a purple\r\npassion).\u00a0 Poverty hates prosperity and does everything in its power to\r\navoid it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

16.\u00a0<\/span><\/b> The Spirit of Poverty is an accusing spirit.\u00a0 In\r\nconjunction with #15, when this demonic spirit sees committed believers in\r\nJesus Christ who are prospering, who are living the life of abundance, who are\r\nwealthy in fact, it causes the people in whom it dwells to accuse those who are\r\nprospering of evil motives, of crooked business affairs and even outright theft\r\nin order to be wealthy.\u00a0 Worse, when those who are prospering and living\r\nlives of abundance happen to be ministers of the Gospel, \u201cthey obviously got\r\nthat way by taking those $15 and $20 checks off little old widows who live on a\r\npension<\/i>.\u201d\u00a0 There are a host of accusations I don't need to recount\r\nhere, but you get the picture.\u00a0 You've no doubt heard a fistful of these\r\naccusations.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

17.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 The Spirit of Poverty attracts lack.\u00a0 You've all\r\nheard the clich\u00e9 that \"like attracts like.\"\u00a0 I've watched this\r\nhappen repeatedly throughout the years.\u00a0 Someone in bondage to this spirit\r\ntries to better themselves and move into better surroundings, get a better\r\nhome, a better car -- you name it.\u00a0 Before long, their new surroundings,\r\ntheir new home and their new car look exactly like what they left behind:\r\ntrash!\u00a0 Their friends and close associates live like they do, think like\r\nthey do, and talk like they do.\u00a0 And the cycle of poverty repeats.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

18.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 The Spirit of Poverty promotes the wrong kind of\r\nmentality when it comes to possessions.\u00a0 Let me illustrate.\u00a0 There\r\nare two very different and opposite aspects to this mentality.\u00a0\u00a0(<\/span>See\r\nEcclesiastes 5:10-12<\/span>)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nmentality of the Spirit of Poverty is to get you to focus on material things,\r\nmoney, possessions.\u00a0 You either (1) see them as something you must have\r\nmore and more and more of; or (2) you see them as things you need to get rid of\r\nin order to \"be a true Christian\" (assuming, of course, that the\r\nperson is a Christian to begin with).\u00a0 Either way, the focus of this\r\nspirit and the thinking and mentality of this spirit is materially oriented.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

19.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 The Spirit of Poverty is the driving force behind\r\nthievery of every sort: embezzlement, fraud, stealing in any form.\u00a0 This\r\nspirit deprives people of a real work ethic and promotes a \"you owe\r\nme\" attitude.\u00a0 It is the same spirit that drives a welfare mentality.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

20.\u00a0<\/span><\/b> Along with #19 comes the lie of this spirit that says\r\n\"Money will fix everything.\u00a0 Just give me money, and everything will\r\nbe taken care of.\"\u00a0 This lie drives the \"good works\"\r\norganizations that want to relieve poverty.\u00a0 Folks, we don't fix poverty\r\nby throwing money at it.\u00a0 Poverty is not a state of having or being\r\nwithout.\u00a0 Poverty is a spirit, and it has to be dealt with\r\nspiritually.\u00a0 You don't give money to an evil spirit: you kick it out in\r\nthe name of Jesus!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

No\r\ngovernment institution has the power or the authority to reduce poverty or\r\nmitigate in any way the sorry state of the poor.\u00a0 All it does with its\r\nsocial service programs is to enlarge the realm of poverty and to create more\r\npoverty thinking, along with poverty-minded dependents who are incapable or\r\nunwilling to get out of their dependencies.\u00a0 Fixing poverty isn't the\r\nresponsibility of civil governing authorities, nor is it in their power to\r\nresolve no matter how hard they try, and no matter how noble and committed they\r\nmay be to helping.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

21.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\r\n<\/span>The Spirit of Poverty promotes false humility.\u00a0 It creates\r\nand paints a fake picture of being humble before the Lord by doing without\r\nthings.\u00a0 It creates timidity towards God that makes namby-pamby, Caesar\r\nMilquetoast, cheap, \"I'm just an old sinner saved by grace\" flavor of\r\nChristians.\"\u00a0 It's sick!\u00a0 Maybe you've never thought of it like\r\nthis, but to make a statement like that is a religious clich\u00e9 and an insult to\r\nthe Lord Jesus Christ.\u00a0 It defames Him and ridicules the ultimate cost He\r\npaid to redeem us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

A\r\nChristian is either a person who is saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus\r\nChrist, or he\/she is a sinner in need of salvation.\u00a0 You can't be both an\r\nold sinner and saved by grace at the same time.\u00a0 Once you've been redeemed\r\nby the Lord Jesus Christ, saved and baptized in water, the act of baptism\r\nburies the old sinner.\u00a0 The old sinner is literally dead!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\napostle Paul wrote the following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Hebrews 10:12-13<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/i><\/b><\/span>But\r\nthis man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the\r\nright hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his\r\nfootstool.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What\r\nthe Spirit of Poverty does to a person is to make them believe that they have\r\nno responsibility for anything; that the entire burden for their provision,\r\ntheir healing, their deliverance is on Jesus.\u00a0 What they've been blinded\r\nto is the fact that Jesus has done everything He's going to do.\u00a0 He's done\r\neverything He needs to do.\u00a0 The apostle Paul <\/span>tells us that He\r\nsat down on the right hand of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

22.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 The other side of this same coin (false humility,\r\ntimidity) is cowardice.\u00a0 The Spirit of Poverty turns Christians into utter\r\ncowards who won't stand up for themselves; folks who would rather switch than\r\nfight (sorry about the pun); people who refuse to find out what God has\r\nprovided in the Word for every single situation we can possibly face.\u00a0\r\nThese cowards would rather accept their poverty -- their \"broke, busted,\r\nand disgusted\" state -- because it is easier to accept poverty than to\r\nstand up against the lies of Satan.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\r\nbecomes easier to believe that God wants you broke and living on the bleeding\r\nedge of nothingness than it does to believe that God wants you to prosper and\r\nto be in health physically, emotionally, mentally and financially.\u00a0 When\r\nyou believe that utter demonic balderdash, you become a spiritual coward,\r\nunwilling to stand up against your situation and decree that \"I'll never\r\nbe broke another day in my life!\"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Are\r\nyou plagued in some area of your life by this wicked spirit?\u00a0 <\/span>Then let me give you some confessions and\r\ndecrees to speak out loud, whether you do it by yourself or in the presence of\r\nothers.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
