Spiritual Hierarchy & Authority, Part 18

I’ve shared with you on previous occasions the fact that the Sound of the Lord comes – and is represented throughout the Word – as measurable frequencies with specific objectives. The two most dominant frequencies in the Word are 444 (which is the frequency of the key of A) and 528 (which is middle C on the piano). We see 444 in Scripture especially in the Creation narrative where the phrase occurs, “And God said…” The mathematical value of that phrase with its accompanying statement is generally referred to as 888 – which denotes the fact that Jesus was the One speaking the words of creation.
888, of course, is divisible by two and becomes 444. This is the frequency of creation. There is creative authority released with sound, with worship, with music built on that frequency.
The frequency of 528 is exhibited in Zephaniah 3:17, where we read the following:
The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.
The mathematical value of that statement is a multiple of 52. 528, therefore, is the frequency of love and healing, and we see it demonstrated repeatedly throughout the Word.
One of the keys that seems to be missing in the body of Christ is the real understanding that there is authority in our voice, authority in the sound that comes forth from us — creative authority or destructive authority. Everything that comes forth from our mouths has authority, for good or for bad. Consider the following statements that Jesus makes:
Matthew 12:36-37: But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
On another occasion, Jesus is talking about dealing with offenses and the multiplication of authority that takes place when two or more agree.
Matthew 18:15-16: Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
Matthew 18:19-20: Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
We continue on today where we left off last week. Few people associate sound with authority, but as we have seen thus far, there is a direct link between sound and authority.
The sound of Jesus' authority, and the sudden silencing of the storm and its sound, piqued the curiosity of a man at Gadara -- one who lived in the tombs, and hid in the rocks near the seashore. Here is a man in whom a legion (normally counted as 6,600 foot soldiers, and 172 horse-drawn chariots) of evil spirits has lived, creating such chaos and insanity as to turn him into an uncontrollable monster with more than sufficient strength to break iron and steel chains and shackles. Seeing Jesus arriving at the seashore with his disciples, he begins to move toward them.
Whether these demons had anything to do with the storm at sea, or not, Jesus instantly recognizes them; and before even a word is uttered by the man, Jesus speaks with the same authority which calmed the sea. "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit."
As we have seen before, the immediate response on the part of the demons is pure terror. Running towards Jesus, they begin to cry out, "What have I to do with you, Jesus, Son of The Most High God? I implore you by God, do not torment me!"
Here is the only recorded instance in which Jesus pauses to have the most brief of conversations when he says, "What is your name?"
The head spokesdemon answers, "My name is Legion, for we are many."
Pleading with Jesus not to send them "into the abyss" before their time, the spokesdemon asked that they be given permission to enter a herd of swine feeding nearby. Jesus gave them leave, and they departed into the swine. That they were subject to Jesus' word and authority was clearly evident. That his sound arrested them was also clearly evident.
One of the things that Della and I have learned throughout the years is that the Lord will initiate His authority and speak through us even when we are caught off guard and unprepared for things that happen. It is still our voice that is speaking, but Holy Spirit is the initiator of that which comes forth, and nothing that comes out of our mouths has its origin in our thoughts or natural thinking.
We have shared, on numerous occasions, the event which took place in the summer of 1991 when Marcia was killed in Atlin, B.C. in a strange accident.
Walking on an elevated sidewalk made of 2x10 wooden planks, she stepped on a plank which was not fastened down. It flew up and struck her across her face and left temple. As she began to fall, Della saw Marcia’s leg about to be broken as the board fell back into the open slot catching the leg in a pincer-like action. It was something which the Lord had shown to Della previously in a flash vision. In that instant, Della felt the authority of the Lord, and quickly shouted, “NO!” Instead of snapping Marcia’s leg, the board rotated under her foot.
With the weight of her falling body once again on the plank, it flew up a second time and struck her like a baseball bat directly across the temple. Della grabbed Marcia and cushioned her fall, holding her as she settled into a semi-sitting position.
Marcia was breathing hard as she said to Della, “Don’t leave me.” Della responded quietly, “I won’t leave you. I’m right here.” Then Marcia’s eyes rolled back in her head, and she expired with the death rattle coming from her throat.
In that instant, Della felt as though the Lord simply poured Himself into her. She saw, visibly, the death angel coming for Marcia. With an authority she knew could only come from the Lord, she simply uttered the words, “NO, YOU WILL NOT!”
No religious phraseology. No repetitious, “in Jesus’ Name!” Just the sound of authority – true authority.
The death angel continued to approach, and Della again spoke, “NO, YOU WILL NOT!” Then, with scarcely a pause, she shouted, “MARCIA!”
Instantly, Marcia’s eyes snapped back, she took a deep breath and sat up, saying, “What happened? Where am I?” Della helped her to her feet, and ushered her back into the home where we were all visiting.
During the next forty-five minutes or so, I played my guitar, and we all worshipped together. (One of the worship songs that we sing periodically — Blessing and Honor [from Revelation 5:13]— came out of that experience.) In that length of time, Marcia completely regained her strength. Following our time of worship, we put on our hiking boots, and Earle, Marcia, Della and I went hiking in the mountains.
The marks left by the blows to her face and temple were pretty severe, but there was no swelling, and the marks vanished within three days, so much so that Marcia was able to fulfill a commitment to help out an Anchorage business for a week or so as a receptionist.
I have referred to this event previously, but consider that which is described in Exodus 19.
Moses has led the children of Israel out of Egypt. They are instructed to come to the foot of Mount Sinai before they proceed any further in their journeys. As they assemble, they are instructed to prepare and cleanse themselves in the expectation of receiving the word of the Lord and a clear demonstration of His holiness. Boundaries are set beyond which they are warned not to pass on pain of death.
Before this demonstration begins, however, the Lord speaks to Moses to convey the following to Israel as it assembles,
Exodus 19:5-6, NAS: "Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation...."
That which the Lord is now about to do is to send forth the sound of Holiness in the earth. With it will be the sound of absolute power and authority. It will be the sound of promise and the notification that He has chosen for Himself a people to become a part of His Bride. Such a sound has never been heard in the earth prior to this time.
On the third day, as the people are assembled and wait, early in the morning the sound of thunder and lightning flashes resound from the mountain. A thick cloud covers the mountain so that the presence of the Lord will not be visible to the people. Suddenly, there is the sound of a loud trumpet, the sounds of many trumpets blowing together simultaneously. No human ears have ever heard such a sound as those people began to hear at that moment.
We are told (Exodus 19:18) that the Lord descended upon the mountain in fire, "and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently.”
But the sound of the Lord was only just beginning. The trumpet blasts became louder and louder and louder until Moses knew that he was to speak. Added to the trumpet blasts were now added the sound of thunder. Even in the midst of this thunder, the Lord articulated His desire for Moses to ascend to the top of the mountain to meet with Him.
On this occasion, Moses was given the ten commandments engraved in stone; and the engraving took place even as the words were spoken in Moses hearing. When summed up, the first three commandments were a picture of the love relationship that God desired with His holy and separated people. The last seven dealt with their relationships one with another.
The sound of the Lord -- except for that which was specifically articulated to Moses -- was not in the form of intelligible speech, yet it conveyed the onoma of the Lord. Never before in history had any human beings heard such a sound, and never before in history had the Lord so illustrated His calling for a people who would be separated unto Him. He communicated with His people and immersed them in His onoma in such a manner that they would know that He was God -- He was the great I AM.
Bear in mind that Israel had just been released from nearly four hundred years in servitude and bondage to the pharaohs of Egypt. They had a slave mentality, and were accustomed to serving taskmasters. The Lord had already delivered them from Egypt with such a display of the miraculous as to wow the entire world. The Red Sea had been parted for them as they crossed on dry land. The Red Sea had closed upon the pursuing armies of the Egyptians and swallowed them, and Israel was a free nation at last.
The trouble was, they had been indoctrinated with the sounds of their taskmasters. They had been permeated with the sounds of bondage. They had been filled with the sounds of Egypt and captivity, and the worship of idols and false gods. Those sounds paled into insignificance with the sound of the Lord, and the Lord uttered his voice, his onoma, in such a fashion that generation after generation of people would remember.
Whether they ever learned to love Him and serve Him and have an intimate relationship, or not, they would know the authority of His sound. There would never be any mistaking the onoma of the Lord for the onomas of the past.
So, where does this take us?
We’ve been talking about the sound of the Lord in its many variations, the uttering of His sound through our voices and the accompanying authority, but let’s look at the nature and character of the sound of the Enemy. As much as we may understand the sound of the Lord, a whole lot of God’s people do not understand the character and makeup of the sound of Satan.
John, in the revelation which the Lord gives him, sees a picture of "the Beast." His description of this beast is filled with metaphors. He describes the beast as having "two horns as a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon." (Revelation 13:11)
The word, "spoke," in the Greek text here is not a word which is used to describe articulate speech. Rather it is the word, laleo; and it is distinguished apart from lego, the word normally translated for articulate speech. The word, laleo, is used instead "to make a sound."
This changes John's description to read this way, "and he had two horns like a lamb, and he made the sound of a dragon." Phrasing it in this manner describes unequivocally that which is occurring in this generation.
Having "two horns like a lamb" is a metaphor for: meekness, having the appearance of a lamb, being innocent and harmless. Making "the sound of a dragon," however, is the tell-tale emanating of his true onoma. This "sound" is cloaked in innocence. It appears as harmless. In truth, it is "the sound of the serpent;" and this is the sound which deceived Adam and Eve in the Garden.
